Little does she know she's a future boat dog. Soon we're going to start introducing her to sailing.
She's home taught and never been to an official trainer and we use positive reinforcement training with small treats.

Arya is a beauty!!! Absolute gem! I am trying to learn as much as possible as I want to buy both a samoyed and Malamute one day. But for sure the samoyed first! I loved your video on training as I need to learn alot myself. But I love dogs and I used to be so afraid of large dogs and I am now getting over it and I need to because I seem to love the large dogs like these. I really like the Kennel Up trick the most. She does seem to listen to you quite well.
Just saw your comment. Malamutes are cool dogs too, but they can definitely get very big. Arya is about 45 pounds now and won't get much bigger. We think Its a good size without being too big.

My Xiomara is also just over a year old and hte most i can get her to do is sit, although she does mostly respond to "No". Very stubborn, but loves ot be wth me. I guess I haven´t really had a lot of time to trian her .... she loves life and is somewhat crazy like her dad... she is from my son´s dogs´first litter..... she has been very destrucive as well but I still love her.

Stumbled across your video...Impressed with how clean Arya is ;-) We have 2 Samoyeds (one is a year & a half and one is 7mos) and wondered how you were doing with the loose leash/pulling/attention outside? We have not had much luck getting our girls to stop but are going to try starting from scratch and see if Ian Dunbar strategies work for them! I can tell you that 2 are harder to keep clean than 1 LOL! Great job with Arya!
We'll have to check out the Ian Dunbar stuff, hadn't heard of it yet. Pulling and barking (yipping really) are the number 1 things we have problems with. We've taken her to quiet parks to work on it some but we don't do it enough. Its so much easier to teach tricks inside a house than to teach some of the practical things out in the real world. But yeah, we are working on it, and making slow progress.
Hey guys.. just wanted to say how cute she is. Planning on getting one with my fiancée when we can manage it with the space and money. + I very much appreciate the positive reinforcement techniques and you guys are on the right path.
Although i have a sort of tip concerning distractions. If she's not focusing when outside with many distractions around, that means you went too far too soon and should build them up slower. For example, inside the house, then garden or enclosure outdoors, then empty street, building all the way up to a dog park or regular park.

Thanks for the comment! Yeah, we've done a little work with here in some "boring" out door spaces. We don't do it enough as a matter of convenience because the boring outside places take effort to get to. But yeah, it definitely something we're working on.

From where do I get a samoyed ?
My husband and I just got a female Samoyed puppy (10 weeks old as of today). We are trying to train her and were wondering if we could connect personally for some tips and advice. As of now we are seeing the stubborn streak in her and would love to have her start understanding and following the basic commands (sit, stay, speak, quiet, etc.) ASAP! :)

Hi! We got Arya from White Magic Samoyeds in Connecticut and we were really please with how it went. There was about a 3 month waitlist when we got her but it was worth the wait. They're very professional and answer any question you have and even ones you didn't know to ask. As far as grooming goes, yeah we should do a video. We don't groom her as much as we should probably. But we do enough to avoid her getting knots in her fur and to keep the loose fur in the house from making too much of a mess.

We have a 4 month old Samoyed and he's great in training too but shares the outdoor & leash issues so far. I'm guessing you don't have that problem anymore. What did the trick?
