    this video is a couple of years old, but the comments are more recent and dam helpful, so thanks to James and others. Man you helped out some dude in here real good,,Impressed
    Me I have just bought a 2001 VT1100 with no spark..havent seen it yet, but got all new parts in case as I am planning a road trip as soon as I fly in and fix it..I have a CB1300, or two, and had similar issues re spark, burning batteries, only running on two cylinders etc etc..as I live in remote Northern Thailand getting a good mech is not easy, so at first had to work thru it myself, and I am not a real mech, just an old biker...sensors were the problem..and wiring..last owner must have hacked into it himself and got it all wrong..The battery was only half size, and no wonder it went flat in no time..and four huge spotlights, headlight fan, radiator fan, etc..running to much gear..I dont play with carbs,,,coils change, ECU change, regulator change , plug change, new sensors, air filter as these can crumble over time..bottom line is work your way step by step thru, spark, fuel, air and battery...I had to do it three times over many days to get it to fire, and then again to fire on all four...dont give up..for what it does is teach you about your bike

    Hey man thanks I had to hardwire my shadow because Amazon lost the new stator and refunded working fine since then

    I had this happen to my '99 Aero 1100. I tried connecting the wires with cheap plugs, but the battery wasn't charging. The rectifier had burned out. Bought an aftermarket one off amazon, had to extend the wires, and then it ran fine. Just gotta make sure the stator hasn't burned a phase, by checking the OHM's, if it OHM's over 1 it's burned out. The charging system is the Achilles heel of these bikes.

      After over 20 years and the only failure being that, I would say that's OK.

    It can catch on fire actually, installed a new stator on my Honda Shadow and it worked great for months but I’ve day when it shorted out, it caught on fire and totally ruined my bike. Luckily, I was able to extinguish it but definitely be careful with those OEM plugs!!!

    You need around 14 volts to 14.5 at idle if you don't have that you're not charging enough good luck man

    yeahp. happen to mine vt 1100 94 mod. so i did the same as shown on the video here. only the wires were burnt of ,and hanging loose.so i had to guess were they were connected . but now some years later ,its killing the batterie.so a new stator is needed .

    Thanks for sharing!
    I had a similar problem with my Honda Phantom!
    The Stator was not changing the battery and the bike would die on me after a short time! With the help of a Voltage Meter, I traced the fault back to the wire connectors, I replaced the connectors and it solved the problem!
    However, my bike is 16 years old, I believe that it would be better to replace the entire electrical wiring loom now because of the age of the bike?
    👍

      For a while Honda had Stator problems because they were poorly made... I replaced mind with one that was made in California... It was cheaper than the OEM stator and better built...

    I picked up a 2002 VT1100 Shadow that wouldn't start. There was a very small amount of gas in the tank and the pump might have been dry. The pump wouldn't come on with the key but would when I jumped the relay wires. Will the brain of the bike prevent the pump from coming on it there is no gas in the pump?

    Just did that last night, changed nothing. Bike runs but dims out at high rpms. Gonna run a ohm and voltage output test on the stator and rectifier and see if either of those are my issue.

    That plug is a problem on all the Honda Shadows. The first thing I do is cut out the plug and solder the wires instead. Then get a Mosfet style regulator before your stator burns out. Honda has piss poor fegulators.

    Ebay stator will reach all the way to an aftermarket shindengen regulator, then run that straight to the battery, bypass all this garbage for $60.

    I love Hondas I'm a Honda mechanic but after a while the rectifiers go out man that's what's up your bike's not charging it's building up resistance making the wires hot and melting the connector buy a new rectifier he'll get a good stator right on bro

      Have I got a question for you I go and ride my 2004 Honda shadow 1100 and when it’s idling it will rev fine but when I go on a ride It won’t go past 25% throttle without sum sort of breaking up do you know the problem? If not that’s fine.

    • @jamesholland1497

      @@jackiebeasley9719 if the battery is good and the bike is charging you may have a corporation issue if it has sit for a period of time take out one of your spark plugs if it's black and wet that may lead you in the proper direction

    • @jamesholland1497
      @jamesholland1497 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On second thought it may be your stator which is the bikes alternator if you have jumped it off with a vehicle too many amps could have damaged your stator just a thought?

    • @jackiebeasley9719
      @jackiebeasley9719 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jamesholland1497 I don’t think it’s the stator it did have pretty dirty spark plugs I’ve put new ones in recently trying to figure the problem out! Also I don’t know if you are supposed to do this but I’m learning I had started my bike and pulled the oil dip stick and there was a lot of blow by it was spitting oil out of the dip stick hole I was think Piston rings? Idk I’m probably wrong idk that’s why I wanted your opinion on it.

    God this bike has so many problems
    There's a bloody vacuum cut off switch going to the fuel petcock. If your engine isn't rotating and creating a vacuum, your petcock will be blocked. Only sometimes on start the engine doesn't create a vacuum, so you'll end up turning the engine over forever until your battery is dead and it won't crank, and you're fuel line after the petcock will be bone dry.
    The solution is to disable that valve by opening it and locking it always open... or to pull off the tube where it goes into the engine and suck into it, which will open the valve and let the fuel flow and prime your carb if it's bone dry. Once the bike cranks it will create enough suction to keep the valve open and the fuel flowing.
    Worst... design.. ever. Disable that vacuum cut off valve in the petcock. If your petcock is ON or RES, you want fuel flowing, no questions asked.
