Did you make a video of the rebuild? Im trying to do mine now and I'm running into a snag with the timing.

I am about to replace the cylinder head gasket on a 750 Shadow Ace. Do you have to remove the spark plug housing to pull the cylinder head off, or can you simply remove the spark plug? Can I leave them both in place to pull the head?

    • @MidNebraskaMotorsports
      @MidNebraskaMotorsports  ปีที่แล้ว

I think you'll end up removing both. I plan to tear into a 750 in the near future. Hit that subscribe button so you are notified when we get one posted. Thanks again for watching.

@@MidNebraskaMotorsports it turns out that I did pull the plugs, but not the housing, but that it was not necessary to remove the cylinder head. Thanks.

Would shaving a few thousandths off these heads cause timing issues?

Certainly could. Let me know what you find. Thanks for the comment! Let us know if there is anything we can help with. Check out: th-cam.com/video/X0AdFxkJiOg/w-d-xo.html for more tips. And: www.ebay.com/str/midnebraskamotorsports for all your parts.

Excellent video of the disassembly. Hello, I'm from Chile. I have a Honda Shadow 398cm3 engine in size with the Shadow 750, they are identical. The question is, can I leave the 398cm3 at 750? greetings

Awesome tutorial I've been wondering why my 1985 VT 1100 is developing a ticking sound in the last 3 years. I wonder without taking the engine out what can I do I think it's the valves and needs shims you think I'm wrong or what is your comment on this situation thank you Dave

Any idea what the piston to head clearance is on one of these motors is? Looking around for higher compression piston options.

Just got a 98 1100, water got in the carb on the front cylinder. The valve was closed. So thats as far as the water went... is it as easy as it seems to get to them?

Is it possible to do the valve clearance on this while the engine is in the bike?

Thank you sincerely. I dont want to loose my moto and no one wants to buy it but your video made it seem so simple ..how much money goes in for that head gasket job?

  • @markkaplan2133

This is very different from the 750, which, once you pull off the cylinder head cover, there is an entire mechanism atop the cam shaft. Also, pulling out the cam chain tensioner isn't so simple, because it requires using a small nail to keep the tension prior to removing it. If you don't, and it slips...what a pain.

You nailed it Mark. Pun intended. 750 is a different beast. Keep an eye out as we have several videos coming out on the 750s. Thanks for watching! Hit that subscribe button.

I have a Shadow Sabre VT1100C2 and one of the cylinders stopped firing while I was riding. A dude was about to pull out in front of me so I revved it up. I heard a loud pop and then immediately felt (and heard) a lack of power and the only one is firing. My buddy and I tested the spark plugs (which were good), and we couldn't find a leak in the fuel lines so we don't believe it was the injectors. Going by the loud pop, it could have been a blown head gasket, but based on the complete lack of power from one cylinder we believe one of the intake or exhaust valves is stuck or broken.
I have not yet checked compression (going to soon). What could have happened that caused a pop and immediate failure of one of the cylinders?

I have the same experience going on right now. I checked compression and its at 30psi. Not good.did you ever get it fixed

Rev bomb gone wrong, next time instead of doing something so idiotic just ride the bike to avoid a collision instead of acting like a little brat

Hey man, thanks for the video but a straight on view of the engine would have been great especially in certain parts, so perhaps keep that in mind for next time. Good job over all though!
