Keep up the great vid series. I love them. I only disagree with you on 2 items. 3rd row, now clarified should be an option on OT+ definitely not standard, so now we are down to 1. Lifts. I know that you hate em on our platform ( although I’m a 470) I need a lift sliders and skids because I’m new to overlanding and rock crawl type off roading. My vehicle would not have survived my first year without ( I also did everything to correct geometry uppers track at etc). I also off-road slower than you because of terrain in the north east.
Great review. I was already planning on waiting until at least 2025. I hope Lexus at least keeps the option of a deleted 3rd row, increase HP in the capable engine (or find a hack that I can do), and increased ground clearance. I unfortunately and the minority who is 50 and single with two working line GSD's that this model fits nearly perfectly.
Agreed. I'd pay the extra. I have 3 kids and although this isn't the kid hauler and my personal vehicle (kid hauler unfortunately is Yukon XL as the new Toy Seq. has zero cargo space), I still need the option to chuck them all in with wife at times. Couldn't purchase a 4 seater with 5 in the fam.
Truth to tell I don't see a reason to have 3rd seat for OT/OT+. If you are going with kids, even if you have 3 of them, you don't need 3rd raw seat because you need a room for the camping stuff. If you are planning to take your kids and your parents or couple of friends, then you will not have a space for stuff, only on the roof rack but I doubt that is the option for many. I am talking about real wilderness where you'd need all the lockers and kdss, not just camping sites where you will be fine in any Gx trim. As an option, lexus could make a side seats as in older LC as an option. I also will wait for another year or two even though I'm tempted to get it this year ))

Well I’m a single guy that has an old 4Runner with no third row and I like it that way however if I drive it into the woods it won’t be to watch squirrels lol. I’m waiting until 2025 cause of possible bugs and I want it right before I retire. I also want the right color and model. I’m not fighting someone to get one. They will either have what I want or I won’t be buying one. I’m probably not their typical customer. I have been saving for a new truck for ten years. I’m not wealthy I just want to upgrade from my 4Runner which I absolutely love.
Luxury trim has third row. I'm also waiting for the 2025 model year so they work out the minor things. They're not gonna add anything new next year. Lexus doesn't add things often Many of their models stay the same even after 3 years. Look at their infotainment system with the mouse pad, for example.
I agree they will not be anything worth waiting for if this is the vehicle for you. All the new safety systems are already present finally, which I have had on my older Ford Edge for 10 years.@@Xrpxlm7

Current 460 owner here. The third row delete is my favorite part. It’s just been a huge waste of space and even kids don’t like being back there. It be better to use that space to put in a larger hybrid battery. My biggest complaint is that they didn’t adopt the split tailgate from the old LC/LX My dream gx is a two row, hybrid TT v6 from tundra/lx, overtrail (non+) trim, with the ML audio, cold weather, and higher output onboard AC power package
3rd Option In OT Trim is coming. And yes, I want that Option...it was teased to test the water. It wasn't confirmed if 3rd was opt or not, then it was confirmed no Option then spokesperson gave probable answer to a journalist of being a opt down the road. And pre production had some que of 3rd row being there . I'm with you I think it will be offer next yr or so
If anyone is on the market for a GX, run to buy the current GX460. The V8 will last a lifetime. The new GX550 with its Turbo engine will be more complex to maintain and less forgiving with its additional heat produced by the Turbo. Also, which idiot at Lexus thought it was a good idea to place the rear wiper at the bottom of the glass instead of tucking it under a rear spoiler like the current 5th generation 4Runner. Absolute stupidity.
I would like actual physical buttons and controls instead of screen controls. Also high quality full leather seats on Overtrail trims. Everything else is great!
Changing the position of the rear win dow wiper to the top position will be a change for the future, as will the EKDSS to be standard on all GX models. More leather and wood trim for the interior may be coming too! OBTW- far better gas mileage too!
Lexus obviously favored tuning the v-6 with more hp/tq but similar gas milage to the v-8 and I think that was smart. And that twin-turbo v-6 as in the non-US LC and new LX tuned for 409hp. I'm waiting to see how they set up the hybrid (engine, hp, tq, etc.) given the huge flexibility on how they can tune these engine. Current rumors are it will have more, not less hp than the std v-6 with potentially better gas mileage.
Seeing the updated towing specs has me leaning towards GX over new LC - wondering where the towing capacity will fall for Overtrail+ with the hybrid in 2025
The feature that I really want is the more powerful hybrid powertrain added to the 550 on the overtrail. As for the 3rd row, I'm sorry but not every buyer of this has 5 screaming kids~ as for me, I do just have a dog & I absolutely do NOT want to kill my cargo capacity for a basically unusably 3rd row for screaming kids that I do not have. Buyers that have a tribe of screaming children are more than welcome to buy a Suburban. Maybe Lexus will keep everyone happy and offer the tiny 3rd row as an option for buyers with multiple screaming children. Just my perspective & thank you for the great vid!
I'm not going to say that there aren't a few "lone wolfs" out there looking at these vehicles, but I agree that the overwhelming majority of the folks seeking these out are people with families. Back when I was a lone wolf this kind of vehicle wasn't in my budget, but now that it is I also have a wife, two kids, and a number of needs that I didn't previously have. I still want an off-road and road trip capable vehicle, but I also need to take kids to school, swim lessons, make Costco runs, and all of the other stuff that boring folks in the suburbs next to the Rocky Mountains need to do.
Great points!! I bet they will add the third row to the Overtrail. I think they are already hearing the comments about the lack thereof. They should also put the digital rear view mirror on ALL of them!!. Also they should bring back KDSS on ALL the trims!! When i saw the Overtrail at the Washington Auto Show I totally thought it would feel out of place in an urban environment, but no , I did not get that feeling at all. The tires, though large they didn't dissuade me at all, in fact I would get it except for the lack of the third row. The other thing is since there's so much demand I wonder how much the dealers will jack the price up. They felt real smug this last year jacking up car prices for vehicles not even in high demand so just imagine this one.

Kdss for most people is absolutely worthless if anything it causes a lot of issues and customer complaints due to the way kdss affects the steering. I’ve gone through many many test drives with people and so many hate it. That’s why I’m happy they removed kdss from most of the models. If people want it they can get the overtrail. Which doesn’t include the 3rd row seat plus no dynamic sky moonroof that’s in the luxury trim. I do like the luxury + trim deployable steps that’s something I wish the overtrail + would come with but I’m sure if you added everything together you would have a gx550 that is near or exceeds 100k
100% agree with the third row on Overtrail... I'm super stuck now between luxury+ and overtrail+ to the point where I might go with neither lol I'm down with lone-wolfing... until my/wife's parents or kids' friends come over and I need more than 4 additional seats...

Great Vid. Surprising this logic escaped Toyota. When I was a lone wulf overlander I couldn't afford a GX... now that I can, I'm old and have a family. I need something that will serve me in cottage country and the mall. I'm not going to buy this just to go North a few times a year.

Another excellent video I would like to say I am waiting until they come out with the 2029 which will be the sixth year that’s when I buy all my vehicles like I said before when my LX 570 newest model came out in 2016 I waited all the way to 2021 to get the last year of it being manufactured and well what agreed decision that was for me and also with the GX I think buying the 2023 would be another great decision so I have six years to drive that around until the last year of the GX 550 I would say in 2029 it’ll probably be well over 400 hp It’s going to have a lot more amenities and things you could buy for it and I find that’s the way to go. It’s like when I go shopping for CDs in music. I always buy the greatest hits that are particular ARTIST has I will not buy each one of their albums. Just get the greatest hits And you have all their best work common sense to me anyway it’s just my opinion just throw my two cents in there you got a great channel and I love your videos I love Lexus like I’ve said before my favorite Lexuses are the LX 570 the GX 460 in the LC 500 those are my favorites🇯🇵❤️🤍⭐️🙏😇👍☮️💜 I am hoping that someday that Lexus will make the GX 550 with a naturally aspirated V6 or V8 engine in 27,28 or 29 just wish and I hope that that might happen…
Everything that you’ve stated is the exact reason why I was waiting for 2025 in the first place. Anything that is the first version are open to all of these reasons.
To be honest I do not think it will be an issue but I did wonder why they did not include the third row. True outdoor types need the room for camping, hiking, dogs and picnic gear etc so the space would be used mostly for that anyway. Options are always nice of course. I would want the third row even though I would only use it once to twice a year when grandkids visit but it would not stop me from buying it.
Actually I wish they offered the other trims with an "option" without the 3rd row. Currently I have a Range Rover Velar. Tired of banging my head getting in and out of thing plus it's getting expensive to maintain as it ages. This vehicle looks attractive to me especially without the 3rd row.

Edit: Married and I have a dog, not married to a dog... Just clarifying) and the GX550 without a third row is still better. More room for 1 kid, dogs, and hobby stuff imo. If someone else wants me to cart around their kids + friends, they can do it in their 15 seater family van. :). Lots of families survived the station wagon era with 5 seats and enough room for 4 laid out dead bodies.
I think having the option to not have it is huge. I too will not need more than second row for kids and want the space for stuff. It's why I didn't buy used lx570 huge seats in the way.
I would buy the overtrail if it had a 3rd road. Make it optional…..probably because of that I need to get a premium +…or none as in Atlanta they believe I would pay 10k markup 😂😂

I was semi-aneline leather, panoramic roof, 3 zone climate control and option color matches fender flares in the overtrail+, along with more fun colors.
The one thing in all this I can completely agree with is I want a damn 3rd row option in the Overtrail. Period. I will not buy until that is an option.
for me if they are going to add futures, i wish we can get an (option) to get the big glass roof on the overtrail more seat color options on overtrail 2 wireless chargers would be cool as some cars start to add it front def looker would be great and maybe bigger wheels like 35(although we can do it after the fact so not as big of a deal) i know must don't care about the roof but if it's an option i will get it

they have the GX550h right? but 2.4T + a bigger motor(s) I am okay with it, they can even make a PHEV version and make the 3.5 hybrid. but I dont think they will do it , not 2025
No GX550h at least not here in the USA. You can go get a Landcruiser or 4Runner with that power train. Honestly the way the v6 pulls compared the hybrid turbo 4 in the rx500 doesn’t even compare the v6 is so much nicer and pulls better. I wouldn’t want a hybrid 4 banger in the gx. They currently do not make a hybrid v6 turbo maybe if they would come out with a GX F variant but really doubt it. The closest to hybrid v6 you would get is something like the TX550+ which is a non turbo v6 plug in hybrid
I want my next vehicle to have tough capabilities and be comfortable,, for the rare times there's a big snow storm up in New Hampshire, or even after a hurricane in Florida with debris all over the roads and flooding.. 😢,, I'm way past my prime so toughing it out isn't an option, ,, when I need to go,, I want the capability
I had a Cobra Pro 2500 power inverter installed on my 2022 GX 460. Have outlets in the front passenger side and in the rear cargo area. The inverter tucked unseen in the left rear of the truck above the wheel well. Love the set up!!!!
3rd row in an offroader is stupid A.F. *every single* Family offroad build out there do remove the 3rd row. family's got tons of gear to load up. look at all the middle easterners and Australian LC300s: first thing is to delete the stupid 3rd row and add sliders for fridges and molle panels. and yeah the delete from factory is great because that means less weight, for more payload. overtrail got no rear ac not just no rear seats. the 3rd row ac unit in the rear quarter panel is quite heavy, plus the seats ofcourse. this is why the overtrail+ got 200lbs *more* payload than a LC300 (1545 vs 1350).
If you have kids young enough to fit in the third row, you're either buy a Sienna, a Sequoia, or if you must have the GX550, you're buying the Luxury. You aren't buying a $70K off roader.
For what it's worth I'm looking at the Overland+ in part specifically because it doesn't have the 3rd row which I don't need or want. What I do want is more space in the rear. So most of those 3rd row competitors are just not something I'm looking at.
Yea I also have no desire for that third row. Currently have an lx570 & 4runner limited both with 3rd rows…. Absolutely a waste of space imho. They offer the third row on the other trims of the GX550; hope they keep it that way lol 😝

Their Toyota side of the house stopped taking deposits for the Land Cruiser so its whichever I can get my hands on first.

Same here I don't need a third row since it's too crammed and no value for money. The lighter the vehicle the better the fuel economy without unnecessary third row
I am also that lone Wolf. In my 40s, Rich, no kids, Love nature, single, and have no desire for a third row (or even a second row for that matter) I just wish I could create a flat area in the back so I can go off and look at nature for days on end. And for the record, every one of my friends is in the same boat. So I think the Lexus is on to something.
Long term you don’t want air suspension. If you’re leasing good but if you’re planning to keep it stay away from the air suspension. Horribly expensive when you need to replace it because you will need to replace it. They all go bad either the shocks leak or the air bags leak or compressor goes bad.
@@LexusGX460-OFF-ROAD I spoke with a salesman at a So Cal dealership today. He as they just got a memo that no dealer is getting any allotment yet. Timing was pushed back 2 months. And because production is not in full swing, no customer can put down a deposit or an order. Just wait to be called by the sales person when the allotment arrives.
3rd row won't be going in the Overtrail, because there are other trims with a 3rd row. Lexus wants buyers like me to have storage room for camping adventures. I would not have been interested if it had a 3rd row. Lexus has more than enough GX models that someone can go get any other and have their third row.

The 470 most of them didn’t have kdss. I’m happy with lexus giving options and like a lot have said when you go off roading you really don’t need the 3rd row you rather have the space for gear. Or me I want the extra space for my dogs. They can ride back there and I don’t have to worry about seats getting messed up

Tried to put a deposit on one yesterday. Lexus would not take a deposit. Seems this will be a blessing. 2025 here we come.

I understand some features won't even be available in the new LC; I'm not talking just less interior/comfort options but things like E-KDSS.
V6 twin turbo won’t have hybrid. If you want the 4 cyl hybrid you go and buy the Land Cruiser or the 4Runner

I would wait for mid cycle refresh if buying. Too many issues with new models in first few years. Even with a lexus.

Kdss for most people is absolutely worthless if anything it causes a lot of issues and customer complaints due to the way kdss affects the steering. I’ve gone through many many test drives with people and so many hate it. That’s why I’m happy they removed kdss from most of the models. If people want it they can get the overtrail. Which doesn’t include the 3rd row seat plus no dynamic sky moonroof that’s in the luxury trim. I do like the luxury + trim deployable steps that’s something I wish the overtrail + would come with but I’m sure if you added everything together you would have a gx550 that is near or exceeds 100k
100% agree with the third row on Overtrail... I'm super stuck now between luxury+ and overtrail+ to the point where I might go with neither lol

Great Vid. Surprising this logic escaped Toyota. When I was a lone wulf overlander I couldn't afford a GX... now that I can, I'm old and have a family. I need something that will serve me in cottage country and the mall. I'm not going to buy this just to go North a few times a year.

You are missing the point. It should be an option for the customer to have a 3rd row on all trims.
The Overtrail is simply a reliable alternative to the Land/Range Rover. The GX 550 will be getting higher horsepower in the 25/26 years
Another excellent video I would like to say I am waiting until they come out with the 2029 which will be the sixth year that’s when I buy all my vehicles like I said before when my LX 570 newest model came out in 2016 I waited all the way to 2021 to get the last year of it being manufactured and well what agreed decision that was for me and also with the GX I think buying the 2023 would be another great decision so I have six years to drive that around until the last year of the GX 550 I would say in 2029 it’ll probably be well over 400 hp It’s going to have a lot more amenities and things you could buy for it and I find that’s the way to go. It’s like when I go shopping for CDs in music. I always buy the greatest hits that are particular ARTIST has I will not buy each one of their albums. Everything that you’ve stated is the exact reason why I was waiting for 2025 in the first place. Anything that is the first version are open to all of these reasons.
To be honest I do not think it will be an issue but I did wonder why they did not include the third row. True outdoor types need the room for camping, hiking, dogs and picnic gear etc so the space would be used mostly for that anyway. Options are always nice of course. I would want the third row even though I would only use it once to twice a year when grandkids visit but it would not stop me from buying it.
Im a 40 something childless single but im not going off road. I want the luxury plus. But us lone wolves do exist 😁. Lots of us.

Actually I wish they offered the other trims with an "option" without the 3rd row. Currently I have a Range Rover Velar. Tired of banging my head getting in and out of thing plus it's getting expensive to maintain as it ages. This vehicle looks attractive to me especially without the 3rd row.

Edit: Married and I have a dog, not married to a dog... Just clarifying) and the GX550 without a third row is still better. More room for 1 kid, dogs, and hobby stuff imo. If someone else wants me to cart around their kids + friends, they can do it in their 15 seater family van. :). Lots of families survived the station wagon era with 5 seats and enough room for 4 laid out dead bodies.

I think having the option to not have it is huge. I too will not need more than second row for kids and want the space for stuff. It's why I didn't buy used lx570 huge seats in the way.
I would buy the overtrail if it had a 3rd road. Make it optional…..probably because of that I need to get a premium +…or none as in Atlanta they believe I would pay 10k markup 😂😂

I was semi-aneline leather, panoramic roof, 3 zone climate control and option color matches fender flares in the overtrail+, along with more fun colors.
The one thing in all this I can completely agree with is I want a damn 3rd row option in the Overtrail. Period. I will not buy until that is an option.

they have the GX550h right? but 2.4T + a bigger motor(s) I am okay with it, they can even make a PHEV version and make the 3.5 hybrid. but I dont think they will do it , not 2025
No GX550h at least not here in the USA. You can go get a Landcruiser or 4Runner with that power train. Honestly the way the v6 pulls compared the hybrid turbo 4 in the rx500 doesn’t even compare the v6 is so much nicer and pulls better. I wouldn’t want a hybrid 4 banger in the gx. They currently do not make a hybrid v6 turbo maybe if they would come out with a GX F variant but really doubt it. The closest to hybrid v6 you would get is something like the TX550+ which is a non turbo v6 plug in hybrid
I want my next vehicle to have tough capabilities and be comfortable,, for the rare times there's a big snow storm up in New Hampshire, or even after a hurricane in Florida with debris all over the roads and flooding.. 😢,, I'm way past my prime so toughing it out isn't an option, ,, when I need to go,, I want the capability

I had a Cobra Pro 2500 power inverter installed on my 2022 GX 460. Have outlets in the front passenger side and in the rear cargo area. The inverter tucked unseen in the left rear of the truck above the wheel well. Love the set up!!!!

*every single* Family offroad build out there do remove the 3rd row. family's got tons of gear to load up.
look at all the middle easterners and Australian LC300s: first thing is to delete the stupid 3rd row and add sliders for fridges and molle panels.
and yeah the delete from factory is great because that means less weight, for more payload. overtrail got no rear ac not just no rear seats. the 3rd row ac unit in the rear quarter panel is quite heavy, plus the seats ofcourse.
this is why the overtrail+ got 200lbs *more* payload than a LC300 (1545 vs 1350).

If you have kids young enough to fit in the third row, you're either buy a Sienna, a Sequoia, or if you must have the GX550, you're buying the Luxury. You aren't buying a $70K off roader.
We already have a Sienna and YES we'd by an 80k gx550 OT offroader if it was available with a 3rd row 😃 thankfully the GX460 had the 3rd row 😀

For what it's worth I'm looking at the Overland+ in part specifically because it doesn't have the 3rd row which I don't need or want. What I do want is more space in the rear. So most of those 3rd row competitors are just not something I'm looking at.
Yea I also have no desire for that third row. Currently have an lx570 & 4runner limited both with 3rd rows…. Absolutely a waste of space imho. They offer the third row on the other trims of the GX550; hope they keep it that way lol 😝

Their Toyota side of the house stopped taking deposits for the Land Cruiser so its whichever I can get my hands on first.

I am also that lone Wolf. In my 40s, Rich, no kids, Love nature, single, and have no desire for a third row (or even a second row for that matter) I just wish I could create a flat area in the back so I can go off and look at nature for days on end. And for the record, every one of my friends is in the same boat. So I think the Lexus is on to something.

Long term you don’t want air suspension. If you’re leasing good but if you’re planning to keep it stay away from the air suspension. Horribly expensive when you need to replace it because you will need to replace it. They all go bad either the shocks leak or the air bags leak or compressor goes bad.

And because production is not in full swing, no customer can put down a deposit or an order. Just wait to be called by the sales person when the allotment arrives.

I do not want a third row unless it is easy to remove. I am one of those overlanders who does not want it and would revove it if it is there.
3rd row won't be going in the Overtrail, because there are other trims with a 3rd row. Lexus wants buyers like me to have storage room for camping adventures. I would not have been interested if it had a 3rd row. Lexus has more than enough GX models that someone can go get any other and have their third row.

The 470 most of them didn’t have kdss. I’m happy with lexus giving options and like a lot have said when you go off roading you really don’t need the 3rd row you rather have the space for gear. Or me I want the extra space for my dogs. They can ride back there and I don’t have to worry about seats getting messed up
