      After about 20 years working, I'll tell young people you should not have any loyalty to any organization, they will turn on you in a second when its convenient and fire/replace you. Also to ensure no slavery, young people dont get married and dont get a girl pregnant, make sure she takes the birth control pill daily in front of you and both wear protection. You will just condemn your new child to increasing poverty and freedomless slavery and these control/money/job trends worsen. Promote this idea in videos and social media to help prevent more young people into this new slavery.

      So has covid. In a big way. Americans were discarded by companies and had to adopt individualized entrepreneurial remedies to stay afloat. It's a very American solution that illustrates how more and more people don't "need" their job to make it. They can make their own way or find a job they actually like. It's an amazing time that has come probably a decade or more early.

      I have my appraisal next week.
      My colleague/buddy told me his didn't go well in terms of getting a raise.
      If I'm asked about wanting I raise I'm going to tell the director
      "rather than me give you a figure, why don't you pay me what you think I'm worth and I'll decide if that's acceptable by staying or looking for another job - if you think I'm worth my current salary, continue paying my current salary, if you think I'm worth more, pay more"
      I'm not begging for a payrise.

      No I do it to be a team player! I sleep In the forest and go to 24 hour fitness take a shower pick up my balls and go to my entry level position. I’m basically working for free to afford daycare. I just like to see everyone smile. Oh and sometimes I get free pizza!

      yea ive seen it first hand dating someone in HR, 1 week notice the most you should give. If there's a issue, itll usually come to a head in those 2 weeks and then just end up messy majority of the time. This also depends on how your money is set up lol sometimes you need to squeeze out that last paycheck

      @LTNetjak Had an internship recently, not in accounting but safety and engineering, and they went from like 10 accountants to literally the only one left was a new hire entry. Hope they treated her well after I left. Hope she asked for 10 times the pay since they likely asked her to pick up the slack.

      In my career history I gave one place my 2 weeks, then set my 2 weeks vacation after that. Only for the benefit of my direct supervisor, not the owner.
      Another place I placed my keys on my desk one evening and never came back.
      Last job I worked for someone, 8 years, I gave my employer 2 months. He was a good dude.
      Took that 8 years of experience and started my own business. Never looked back. Best decision ever.

    So my daughter got her first job at a huge engineering firm here in KC MO. It wasn't a good fit for her so she started looking for a new job. When she found one she did exactly what I and Ken Coleman would advise her to do. She gave her two weeks notice to HR. Do you know what this fortune 500 company did as a response to her two week notice??? Within 30 min of her turning in her notice a security guard show up to her office, gave her just a few moments to gather any person items and escorted her ass right out the door in front of all her coworkers. Screw these corporations. You owe them nothing.

    As a master ghoster: I immediately stopped watching Ken Coleman after seeing this, and so glad I found your channel recently!
    I was fired Oct 13, and when my boss texted me to see how I was doing days later: I do NOT feel bad for not replying. He was the type of middle manager who’d say that we’re family and that this is our home, and just more red flags than a Chinese communist parade I wish I had seen sooner.
    I’m still grieving the loss, but so relieved to not be there anymore. 3 years wasted, stagnating and gaining weight from the stress… Grateful it was only 3 years, and no more!
    EDIT:
    Worked for JPMorgan, and can confirm. One time HR called me about how a client called to complain that my Twitter was too conservative and offensive… Meanwhile I don’t have Twitter NOR LinkedIn because of a stalker client.

    I'm 55 years old, and I've been working since I was 15 years old. I agree with everything you say. You're just a number to a company, an asset, and that's it.

      What's happening now is the reaction employers never expected because they have been lording over us for decades. We are presently heading into an employee's market which usually occurs during technology surges. What happened this time was the opposite. Employers facing covid issues simply jettisoned their staff with barely a care since their employees have always been "a dime a dozen" in their eyes.
      What covid restrictions did for employees is expose the futility of working for employers who clearly don't value them. For years employees have been caught in a trap that makes them believe their entire life will collapse if they lose their job. And most of us lived with this belief for decades. Even with a degree on the wall it was a profound driver that played into the hands of employers.
      This Coleman character is still subscribed to the late 1940s employer methodologies. It was a time when an employer could say whatever they wanted about an employee who dared to quit. Using one for a reference was a crapshoot based on the mood of the employer you left. If they decided to be a dick about it, you might have to change your whole field just to find a job. Your reputation could be trashed with amazing rapidity. Only the information age has brought us back to that point after decades of lawsuits and employee rights legislation.
      Coleman is frustrated because he doesn't see the truth of the matter. When he realizes that employees spent the last year learning how to survive on their own, it's going to shock him. Everything he knows about running a business is being rewritten on the fly. I bet he has a copy of Guerilla Marketing on his bookshelf. Next to the One Minute Manager and First Break All the Rules.
      He's a dinosaur who doesn't know it yet.

    The 2 week notice is meant to protect the employer so they have time to replace you. They don't extend the same courtesy to the employee. Also, if you suddenly find yourself training someone to do your job and you're not being promoted, you're about to be fired.

    I quit a job without two weeks notice with the intent of costing my company months of time and money to replace me. I wanted them to squirm. I considered this my moral obligation because it was my only means of demonstrating to them that they couldn’t prey on and belittle and lie to their employees constantly without negative consequences.

    The "two week notice" tradition, as you call it, only exists to protect the company and give them all the power. Same thing with exit interviews.

      We have 30 days notice over here in our country. If you skip it, some of your pay is docked and in some instances you may get put on a blacklist on hiring sites.

    Hey, here's an idea:
    If you don't want employees just leaving, sign a contract with them which requires a 1 month notice period from both sides.
    Of course, if you did that, then the employee could hold you to account as well, and we can't have that!

      No no no, we can't do that. That's what "socialist" countries do, requiring a reasonable contract between employee and employer. If I can't trash an employee on a moment's notice, I can't adjust my labor cost for a month of sagging sales then rehire next month when things stabilize.

    Since most companies require references from previous employers, companies should be required to provide a list of employees they have recently let go too. That way employers are held just as accountable.

      @@robbnoble1509 Except there are a ton of false reviews on Glassdoor - working for 25 years, the worst company I ever worked for somehow had halfway decent reviews on Glassdoor. This was a company where people were fired on a weekly basis and other people quit in spectacular fashion. Normally - someone dropping off a laptop and keys on their boss's desk over the weekend would stand out - but not when other people are throwing computers across the room, screaming obscenities and leaving. Before somebody ask - it wasn't a junk job these were people with good paying jobs. Glassdoor is a really untrustworthy.

    What Ken doesn't understand is that there is no longer any (if there ever was) employee loyalty. One day, after ten years of never taking a sick day, or saying no to overtime, you can get laid off. Just like that. No meeting, no bonus, you are just gone

    I did it over 20 years ago to an employer. It has NEVER “caught up to me”. In fact the place is out of business now. I could tell people I was the VP in charge of manufacturing and there would be ZERO way to Verify or Disprove.

    A previous employer of mine called me at home to tell me I had been terminated. Would not give me a reason. Told me to call HR to get an explanation. HR had no idea what was going on. Tried to call workplace back and they wouldn't answer. Yeah I don't think I'll ever be upset because someone ghosted their recruiter or employer...

    Even if you give a two week notice. They likely won't give you a good reference regardless. Employers hate it that you left their company for a better paying job.

      Most companies will now simply say you worked at the company from Date A to Date B. That's why it's important to keep in contact with a couple of people to serve as references.

    I remember once in college, I was applying to work at Target during the summer to earn some extra cash. I submitted by resume, and not long after landed an interview. I absolutely nailed it. I had all the relevant job experience and availability, got along really well with the person doing the interview, gave all the right answers to their questions, etc. Walked out of that interviewed pretty confident. Then they ghosted me and I never heard from them again. So yeah, I don't feel too bad about ghosting companies, especially when they lead me on like that

      After about 20 years working, I'll tell young people you should not have any loyalty to any organization, they will turn on you in a second when its convenient and fire/replace you. Also to ensure no slavery, young people dont get married and dont get a girl pregnant, make sure she takes the birth control pill daily in front of you and both wear protection. You will just condemn your new child to increasing poverty and freedomless slavery and these control/money/job trends worsen. Promote this idea in videos and social media to help prevent more young people into this new slavery.

    I actually gave the notice period at my previous place, it was 4 weeks notice period, I was in a sales role at a top finance firm, In this last month they put up every other hurdle out there to ensure I don't get my monthly commission, the manager stopped helping me in dealing with clients, they removed my access to existing clients, the manager turned rude and brash, they acted as if I'm not in the office at all, overall a shitty experience, I would highly suggest ghosting rather than going though that awkward misery at the firm, Instead of outright ghosting I'd suggest you attend other interviews to find your new job, and once you get the job, just quit after you get your month end salary and bonus if its there, that's it.

    I was told once at a job fair that I should never quit my job, even if I find another one, because until you fill out the employee paperwork, the w2 and the i9 and health insurance, the company might still change their minds and drop you. That happened to someone I know who moved to my state to take a job offer, only to be dropped by the company after he got here. That was 1999, so boomers definitely know about this behavior. Another coworker I knew back in the 00s got a job at another company and just started working his new job without giving notice. He was a no call no show for days before anyone figured out he wasn't coming back.

    I'm a confrontational person by nature yet I've learned to not initiate confrontation with anyone I know to be dishonest or emotionally unstable because it'll only be a waste of my time and energy. Not to mention opening myself up to false accusations.

    I was ghosted by a fortune 500 company for 3 weeks. I assume they were trying to get someone else who then bailed. They came back to me after 3 weeks of leaving me in an information vacuum and tried to act like nothing happened. I told them to screw themselves.

    I went above and beyond for my former employer.
    Gave them my weekends, overtime, frequently volunteered to take on extra work.
    After I found out a few of my coworkers made (significantly) more than me, and after being BLOCKED from a promotion, I put in my 2 weeks.
    All my effort was rewarded by being walked out the following morning. Never again will I sacrifice myself for a company.

    I recall a job where i was on interview #2 before the final. Oh she liked me so much, called me to check in and asked how i was doing. Told me about the first weeks of work and what team of the department i would be on and everything. Week and a half later no response. Not only did they NOT give me an email stating they went with other candidates, she became unreachable herself. After finally getting in touch with someone from the company this time over 2 weeks out they simply said that the positions were now full and i was being processed for another.
    I. Never. Got. A. Phone call. Back.
    This was 6 years ago.

      Oh my goodness the same thing happened to me for am internship when I was 16 years old. This professor referred me because she thought I had talent (I did not apply) and this guy I was supposed to work for made me set up a work email for him and fill out all this info then he became unreachable. This was back before texting and ghosting was not common. I really wondered what the hell that guy’s problem was- a 40 year old man too scared to
      tell a 16 year old girl what happened. No loss for me though I didn’t have to work for free.

      Yeah I actually despise the not getting back to you thing, especially considering the amount of jobs I've applied for now that demand a custom cover letter on top of a cv, portfolio and QA section. Like if I am being made to spend 30mins to an hour or two applying for your position the least you can do is send an automated email back. Out of the around 30+ jobs that I've applied for recently many of which I got to a part 2 of, only 3 of them got back to me and 1 of them was an acceptance.

    I'm so sick of being lectured on "character" by employers that treat you like trash. I've never gotten anything for working extra hard, or sacrificing for my job, Ken. And spare me your anecdotes and hypotheticals about hard work paying off. Maybe it did for someone, somewhere, but it's never happened for me.
    I'm the same as Josh. So many times, with so many jobs, I've thought about just not showing up. Or, when at work, just grabbing my stuff and walking out without saying a word. And it has nothing to do with my maturity or character, and everything to do with my employer's. It's because I'm fed up. Fed up with being taken advantage of, manipulated, deceived, etc. I used to sleep in the back of a vehicle for one job for Pete's sake. Because they needed me to do that, not because I needed to do that. I don't even get a raise the whole time I worked there.
    Just because it worked out for you, Ken, does not a law maketh.

    I get tired of guys like Ken that are always rambling on from one perspective. My wife is an attorney and she had a firm literally bug her to come work for them (she was already working at a firm) which in itself is unprofessional. Her keeping her options open and curious to what they would offer agreed to an interview, once there she immediately knew something was off. They had already found another attorney with more experience and were going to hire them. They bugged her to apply, then wasted her time with a two hour commute and blew her off in the interview process. These clowns don't care unless something is directly affecting them, they talk a good game when they're desperate but then drop you like a hat when they found something better for them. I appreciate videos like this because it shows the truth from the other perspective, there's really something off with the whole interview process, it's definitely one sided on all fronts.

    In my oppinion Joshua is right. The corporate world has gotten so used to being at the stronger end when it comes to employment. Some companies and recruiters DO ghost employees and prospective employees all the time. However, tides are turning right now and now they sit at the receiving end and wonder what is going on.

    I've literally had an employer send me a letter FedEx while I'm on day 3 of missing work due to severe flu to the point where I actively thought my body was dieing. They were aware why I was gone and I called in each day. The letter arrived at my door saying if I did not return by x date (the very next day) they would consider it my "involuntary resignation". F%*$ loyalty.

    With recruiters in particular, I've learned to automatically ghost a number of recruiters that seem to be harvesting resumes or asking for way too much personal information upfront. My results with the job hunt have become dramatically better since I started doing that.
    If recruiters operate like scammers, treat them like scammers. Nothing wrong about that.

      3rd party recruiters are bottom-feeders. They will do anything to place a person even if that person isn't qualified. They will ghost you when their client no longer wants to hire you. They cold message people or message you months after your first interview with them, and have the audacity to ask if you know someone who will be a perfect fit. Like I will do their job for them.

    I put in 2 weeks one time after almost a year at a company I really liked. They called me later that night after work and said "don't come back Monday." I was counting on that last 2 weeks pay also.
    I now highly consider whether the company has the respect earned to get 2 weeks notice before giving it.

    Both times I ghosted employers they called the cops on me, which was terrifying. I woke up to either banging on my door or seeing bright flashlights shining through my bedroom window in the early morning. Be prepared for that level of pettiness!

    People like him don’t want you to “ghost” them because they want the opportunity to gaslight and argue with you. If an employer has already been treating you like crap to the point that you WANT to ghost them, it’s likely they’d continue to treat you like crap.
    I’ve been in the business world for nearly 35 years & most people you ask would say I am a consummate professional…and I still don’t agree with the idea that you owe a bad employer an explanation face-to-face.

      I think most people are professionals. I was professional even while I was being bullied. Many people who ghost were probably burned so I sympathize. One could argue that you shouldn't allow that to affect how you handle things, but the ones who yell the loudest about it are probably the very people who behave unprofessionally.
      If the employer was professional and decent, they would be treated in kind. A lot of these guys - bad bosses - lack the self awareness to contemplate that though. Too invested in being defensive instead of being part of the solution.

    I just quit my warehouse job for an office job. I gave them a 2 weeks notice and worked the last 2 weeks, and they were very good about me leaving them for a better job.

    Recruiters treated me like crap. Employers I interviewed with were people who I felt three levels above, parroting things about "core values" and pretending everything was good all of the time. I have zero respect or sympathy for these people. I am still doing my own thing instead.

      When a company flashes "their core values" in your face, there is something really suspicious about them. Why does a company need to even have "core values" and "mission statements" after all? A company's ultimate goal is profit, they develop a product, sell it and hopefully they pay their employees well and treat them with respect. That's it. Everything else is pure BS.

    We have had 5 employees quit in the past 3 months and they can't get replacements. Upper Management threw a temper tantrum and told the remaining staff that if they don't like working there, then get out.
    I plan to do that shortly, so I will be employee #6. Am I going to give 2 weeks notice, no.

    I've never ghosted an employer, but I've also had fairly good professional relationships with my employers and only quit due to my own changing life circumstances. I've always given at least 2 weeks notice, but that's because there was no ill will between us. If i was disrespected or treated poorly by my employers i would not see any moral issue with ghosting them.

    No the company wasn't ghosted during the interview process, they just failed the personality test and had to be ignored.
    No, the company wasn't ghosted it was kept on hold until we needed jt (similar to all the job candidates kept on hold for months until they are needed).
    If companies don't like the heat they shouldn't have started the fire.

    At-will employment, you can be terminated at any time with ot without cause. You can also quit at any time with or without cause or notice.

    The older you get, the more you realize that you don't need references. There will always be another job. Even if you spent years at a job, you don't need to put them on your resume. If you ghosted them, it's for a good reason.

      Yep. The only thing the prospective employers care about nowadays is whether or not you got fired or quit to avoid getting fired. But that doesn't really apply either unless you're going for a more sensitive position like law enforcement or banking.

    Yeah, 100% most ghosting happens more from companies than employees. The 2 weeks needs to die, too. If companies don't need to give you 2 weeks to fire you, you don't need to give 2 weeks to quit.

      A company I worked for- as in had been working there- ghosted me when they saw my insulin pump poking out of my pants pocket (diabetic.) The boss was staring at it like it was cocaine or heroin. All I said was “it’s not a phone” and the woman pointed out that her husband is diabetic. Next thing I know, they call me up with lies about my shift being cut cuz “it’s slow” and then they never contact me again. I had to show up there with my father to intimidate those tramps into paying me my check.

Roads are not one way in a wage labor role. Companies should take heed and understand the ignorance and how abusive they have been in the last 40 years through destroying families, relationships, lives, health and overall just human”hood”. Perhaps be okay with the same or maybe not bowing to shareholders but disregard the rest of the world

    well, real life ghosting is a thing, happened to my partner. Went through interviews, tests, everything was aok and then they flew her over 3 countries (Europe), to meet the team and all (flight and hotel paid btw), made her wait for an hour and then promptly said that she's not what they're looking for and ... that was that.

    My first coding job was very toxic after about two months. I had just brought my pregnant wife 850 miles away and had a year contract for $2k for the moving expenses. Even some of the old timers on the client side said it was the worst they have ever seen. I was completely honest with the client as to me leaving two weeks early but informed my boss only five days before I left. He was pissed. I got my reference from the client. I did the exit interview form and raked them over the coals. No regrets.

    I interviewed with a job not too long ago. The process was crazy first a phone briefing, then a virtual video interview, then another phone interview, then another virtual interview, finally i was supposed to do one last virtual interview one last time with the last person and her boss. I said f it another job had called me the same day thank God.
    That recruiter hired me on the spot given it was for a temp position lol buuuut both were for customer service (call center) positions.
    regarding customer service jobs: YOU EITHER WANT TO HIRE ME AS YOUR COMPANY"S PUNCHING BAG OR YOU DON"T. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE SO TEDIOUS.
    at least i sent them an email to let them know not to contact me anymore it felt good.

No idea how the job situation is in the US though - If you need a job desparately you might have to accept that you can be met by a process such as this and then giving feedback to the company is a kind thing to do for future candidates but it won't help you (the one who met this tiring process).
      Everybody wins but the candidates that already had to go through this.

    You are exactly right Josh. Conflict is very difficult for some of us to directly engage in because we cannot articulate what we want to articulate in the heat of the moment, especially when all your boss or manager are going to do is just belittle your complaints as usual. We just need time to think to lay out the entire situation instead of getting thrown off balance in the moment and not even getting the time you need to explain what the problem is. Bringing everything face to face with an employer only works if you employer even bothers to let you speak and bothers to actually comprehend what you say instead of writing your concerns off. We're all human. To be unable to see that the way you are running a company is making your workers miserable, or to see it and ignore it, is just ridiculous and not worth the extra effort on our end to do things the way you want when we've literally been doing things the way you want the entire time we've been employed.

    I remember getting ghosted in the middle of the hiring process. I applied, did the interview, was told I got it and just needed to wait for a call for the background check. Never heard from them. When I called, I got the run around. It's gross. I was a teenager and excited to get a job and they completely ghosted me instead of just telling me straight up I didn't get it. Truly disgusting.

    I've lost count of how many code challenges I've submitted to recruiters and never heard any feedback. Often I'd spend half of a Sunday working hard on those line codes. A recruiter once told me they have KPIs, aka, they're forced by companies to go over X number of candidates for each position, and "there was no way to read all the code submissions".. WHY DID YOU ASK THEN?? My policy now is: wanna test my code skills? Lets do a 1x1 interview then. Great video Josh!

    If ghosting somebody shows a lack of character, then what does that say about the hundreds of companies that effectively ghost every single applicant they interview but do not hire. It's routine practice for a company to take the attitude without explicitly saying so of "If we don't contact you we've likely selected a different applicant." It is uncommon for them to send an email let alone a phone call.

And we constantly remind him as to how he used to make our lives a living hell. And he used to be just like us too, so this was a betrayal like no other. But now that he is back to our level, he will never live it down.

    The traditional advice to avoid burning bridges is nowadays only important to those in either very niche career fields or career fields that tend to require alot of lateral moves to advance, i.e. those where broad experience is more valued than specialized experience. In fact it's probably the most applicable to middle management hoping to advance into upper management, whether that's even a possibility though is very situational. It could also affect people in career fields where managers tend to move around alot to different companies, a mix between my first two suggestions, since you very well could run into those managers again. For the majority of the workforce bridges don't matter though for sure.

    Okay. I’m a boomer, but I previously worked as management for a government agency. The agency I went to encouraged us to take training. Thus, I know that for the past 20+ years, statistics show that the majority of people leave their jobs due to their direct supervisor, then working environment, etc. Bottom of the list was pay, but no where on that list was it I just want to leave for no reason or because I’m a baby. Personally, I saw a huge change in working attitude when Gen X or young people watched their loved ones: parents, aunts, uncles, etc lose their pensions and jobs for companies they had worked over 20+ years for.
    I told everyone at the time capitalist have just shown employees that loyalty only goes one way. All those people from Southwest and other places who worked for their pensions and gave up greater pay for benefits, can not get their years back and now have to start all over with nothing. There were all these venture capitalists or etc who were buying companies, raiding pensions, and dissolving companies. I also told them that sending all these jobs overseas, for a cheaper workforce, also insured that it would come back to bite the companies. Because it would get rid of their customers, 100,000s of people without jobs can only live off credit for awhile, lower wages here and set up a system where their own employees couldn’t afford their product.
    I never realized that we would get to the point that we even shipped out jobs for necessities so that we couldn’t even ingredients for medicine, or simple supplies like masks. It’s unreal how these corporations and the top 10% are not taking any responsibility for our current situation and looking for ways to blame employees.

    If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a worker it’s that being honest never works. I actually got denied a job all because I told the employer that I had Social anxiety and panic disorder. I told em I wouldn’t be an issue especially sense I was gonna be working in a bunny suit all day inside a clean room so I felt safer somehow. Anyways I’ve been honest 3 times how 2 times I was denied a job and the third time I was fired simply because I asked for a quick break to straighten myself out cuz I was having a panic attack.

    Ken has a forceful personality. He enjoys having status and control. Thats why he identifies with the power side - the company, not the worker. And thats why he's so upset by all of this. His world is completely shook by the idea that some average little peon could quietly leave. By taking the initiative to quietly leave, that peon has disregarded the company's (higher) status and taken back just a little bit of control. Plus, the peon circumvented any chance the company had at confronting them (i.e. putting them in their place). Its enough to drive anyone with Ken's personality type bonkers. Remember how much he talks about confrontation and devalues anyone who isn't going to sit still for a confrontation?

    Was working at railways station as an automation worker. After few years of work, no progress no opportunities to make a career or at least earn more money, I've told my boss that at first opportunity I'll leave. And for 3 years I reminded that to him. No actions was made. Other automation positions were bad too, so I've learned to code and left. There are increasing lack of electrical engineers in my country but factories and other companies still offer very bad positions. So I just tell young people not to bother with studying EE.

      I had to dump a guy I wasn’t even dating in high school because I chatted with him on the phone and met him for a movie date once I figured he wouldn’t kill me and then found out the guy was obsessed with me. I totally broke his heart and he tried to “get me back” but I tried to get other girls to take him off my hands- that was actually really scary. Had no clue he was obsessed like that. And my dad and brother told me I was “mean” like I HAD to date this guy even though I was not interested at all and his interest totally creeped me out and he made like I didn’t mean the words I said in plain English- unless I was super nasty about it.
