After about 20 years working, I'll tell young people you should not have any loyalty to any organization, they will turn on you in a second when its convenient and fire/replace you. Also to ensure no slavery, young people dont get married and dont get a girl pregnant, make sure she takes the birth control pill daily in front of you and both wear protection. You will just condemn your new child to increasing poverty and freedomless slavery totalitarians and these control/money/job trends worsen. Promote this idea in videos and social media to help prevent more young people into this new slavery.

Hi Josh, there hasn't been a lockdown here in NZ for a long time like probably a year. It was normal here pre covid. The lockdown was totally unexpected, the PM said within 7-8 hours there's going to have a lockdown, it was already 5pm when she announced it, every office jobs here in NZ finish their work at 4-5pm, it's very relaxing to work here. And we have many benefits. The government is pro workers. The company probably was working on some very important project and they were caught off guard and the bed decision was out of necessity. It was totally unexpected as even before there was a lockdown, it wasn't in their area which is the south of NZ where they never had any lockdown before. I totally feel the frustration of the company as I myself and everyone else probably went to the office to get my laptop after the PM announcement.

I stayed overnight in the office once, to deliver a big chunk of code to a client before some arbitrary deadline. Took me until 3am, there was some cot somewhere so I fell asleep there instead of risking a drive home after a stupid long day (18h). I really was proud of what I achieved, because it actually worked, had a bunch of optimizations and it was something I was happy to have my name attached to.
Come the next day, no word from client. 2 days, nothing, 3 days.. nothing. Took 'em 5 days to acknowledge it. Their fucking deadline. So that was a great achievement and even greater letdown. So I learned to not give a fuck about client deadlines. Because 9 out of 10 times they're just some arbitrary date that gets moved anyway.

Agree. I may be young, and thus did not need this channel to tell me the reality of modern work culture, I never saw anything different when I started working. This channel DID make me realize that some people do still run their business the old school way, and what to look for to identify one. So I went and found an entirely remote position working for an old-school trust-based employer. Ten grand raise, got to salary, less hours, no commute, no on call for a week straight BS, same benefits, way better holidays (mandatory day off for the Super Bowl even), and double the PTO w rollover. In my previous job, going above and beyond was a waste of effort. Now, my employer actually notices and rewards it. Do not give when you won't get back. I love my new job. My work life balance is better than ever. I feel like I'm on permanent vacation, and being that it's remote I got a doggo to keep my cat company. If you are thinking about finding a new job, DO IT.

He plans their routes so they can be home once maybe twice during the week for a quick stop or stay the night and leave early morning. Home every weekend. He's does his best to make sure his drivers don't have to sleeping their trucks all the time & he keeps his customers happy. Now that's a f#¢king good boss.

I remember a decade ago studying Japanese culture, I watched videos of animators and game developers who were documented sleeping in their offices almost like they were examples to strive to. While Japan have amazing work ethic, corporate businesses abuse those principles even to this day. A TH-camr named Tomo Japan explains the gist of it in his last video. This greatly extends to China and South Korea and while it explains why they're at the top of the economy, at what cost? The well being of the employees that also factors in passing out on streets due to over-exhaustion and high suicide rates?

The Japanese businesses I've been fortunate enough to see in person have been hugely inefficient. In one case, employing 3 times as many staff as my current company in the accounts department to process the same volume of work. Car parks seem to hire people to wave you in, as if you need direction to enter. I'm not sure they are the model to follow.

Hard work does not equates to results. Working smart does, working in a sustainable way does. What really grind my gears with those companies is that they aren't only imoral n greedy, they are dumb, no problem being greedy but can u really not think long term n how much more success/profits u would get overtime if all your workers actually like the company/work their best cause they are well rested, etc? It is like seeling seeds for 50$ when u could plant a tree n seel fruits non stop for triple the price each in a few years.
Most japanese n Chinese companies i heard about are getting through by pure numbers game n bashing their head through problems while burning people like disposable resources. If those countries actually strived for productivity n results, sheesh, coupled with their numbers we would be dominated by them pretty quickly.
But not gonna happen i guess.

The employees who do this RARELY receive anything substantial as a "Thank-you". I have been suckered into this several times and I have never received anything in return that made a blip on my radar. I had a coworker say at the beginning of the pandemic that single people should be the ones to come in to work, and not the ones with children, because "we are all in different stages of our life". This was a very bigoted statement and assumes 1. everyone follows a template in their life of having kids and 2. a single person's home life is less important that a married person's home life. My pets and my fishing are more important to me and are equivalent to their kids.

  • @MrBenTheBear

That founder is more concerned about the company is paying his bills rather than that of the employees. I remember around 25 years ago when the director asking who will "volunteer" to stay the weekend to make sure the reports are generated and also printed for distribution. The reporting services had this innate ability to crash due to the number of pages it need to cache before printing (yup, this was a time when people wanted paper on desks for meetings). Needless to say, no one volunteered. We then got an email to nominate someone, and the person with the most votes wins a weekend in the office. So we all voted for ourselves so there isn't a loser. The next step was us being taken in the room and threatened with losing our jobs if someone doesn't stay in. This went on for a week before HR got involved letting them know what they do is classified as bullying. They finally offered a bonus to "do our job" after hours. This dipshit of a director then still got annoyed when we don't invite him to Friday night pub crawls.
