My vehicle is a 2022 Refreshed 16:09 Sierra 1500 AT4, 6.2 L V8 with S&B Cold Air kit, and Stillen Cold Air intake, now on my wish list is a Range DFM disabler
I hopped on to see your Range Tech review. She sounds good. Today I will be testing it in a 6.2L 2011 Yukon Denali XL. All ready changed all wires n plugs. Went from 12.8 mpg to 15.9 mpg. Now We'll see what this moster can really do. I will try to report back soon.
I'm glad I discovered Range Technology. I have a muffler delete on my 2013 Avalanche Black Diamond and even though I never hear a drone, I can hear and even feel when it goes from V8 to V4. I use cruise control a lot and going on a straight, flat road it constantly shifts modes. I can't wait to get my Range in.
Marvelous Kevin. Both your May 10, 2020 video on the Range disabler and this one. Have become a KAC subscriber and watch all of your videos. Also, the updated Range device for my 2020 Silverado 1500 LT arrived this evening. Have inserted it into OBD and cannot wait to take a long road trip tomorrow through the mountains where we live in northern New Mexico. Again, your channel is great. No need ever to apologize about rants and opinions from you. It is those rants and opinions for which we KAC followers subscribe to your channel. Really enjoy the comments folks make on your channel. I think a good way to judge the value of a You Tube channel is by the quality of the comments. Your commentors are thoughtful and have class. Very impressive. Thanks for your good work. Best to you. Thanks for the video, I had already ordered mine because I had the muffler being swapped out it will actually be here today. But as soon as I left the muffler shop I could notice the droning, at some points the exhaust would just cut out completely when coasting at a slow speed. Even my uncle who was at the front door of his house asked if they truck was misfiring, I explained to him about the different combinations of cylinders it could run in. Then explained about the range. Was still kinda skeptical about it with the newer trucks but your video sure is reassuring. Thanks again! V8 all the way. #Subscribed
Ok I just did 2 identical route tests. The equivalent of a trip to the grocery store. Combined city/hwy route. It worked. Never went into 4. Exact same mileage back in the Driveway!
I liked the transmission's snappy response in V8. I lost downhill mileage but gained uphill mileage. It worked out the same in the end, just more fun/safe and better sounding!! 😎
I had engine failure in my 2011 escalade, at 117k miles, lifter collapse caused lower-end damage, bearing came out of the block, had to replace it with a crate engine at the dealer, costing $8000.00. very disappointed, I just bought a 2018 escalade, i think I'm going to buy this disabler
Kevin thanks for the info my 2020 truck is at the dealer now with only 12K miles the situation with the lifter collapsing at the gm dealers is out of control thousands of customers with the same problem with very low miles.GM drop cylinders cutting the oil to the lifters causing big problems on the lifters . Did you hear about this situation happening now with the new DFM system ?? Thanks
15.9 mpg Average with and without Range Tech unit. As a mechanic, I prefer the entire engine to be the same temp, especially an aluminum block w steel plug threads in it and other bi-metal bolts, gaskets, and components. A big factor in engine reliability over time.
Great video . For the actual Range device i give it a 5/10. Reason for my opinion is that my engine bay started smelling kinda funky almost plastic like . Took the device off and the smell went away . I still felt it wanted to drop cylinders during cruising speeds under 50 . I could actually see my rpms going up and down a little. I sold it to a friend with a 2017 Silverado with afm . He’s had no issues with it . I just feel the Dfm is a lil more complex and range couldn’t get it a 100 percent right.
I am getting a flowmaster super 40 series muffler installed in the morning and removing the resonator as well. I am thinking about getting this. I know it says it will not be detected or mess with your warranty. Have you had to take your truck to get any work on it and removed this with them unable to tell that it was installed??
When the Range is connected ... and you press the gas ... does your Range light change? and when you brake it returns to normal? I bought one and turned on the last light and when I accelerated it turns on the full bar, I brake and the corner light remained, I accelerated and turned on all the light of the range again
Do u notice any issues with down shifting? Alot of people say it's bad on the transmission with really hard downshifts? I think most of us are getting to save our lifters due to the great 5.3 but if it ruins the tranny then no good
Thank you! Always get a V8 in a truck. Turbo 4s and 6s won't last straining to pull that heavy truck and the turbos frequently have to be replaced because they are too small and burn out.
I just got one for my 2011 Ram 1500 all it does is flash one light then all flash then repeats. I followed the Startup instructions when plugging it in. I drove around i can still feel the MDS kick in. My question when its actually working are the lights supposed to be Solid or Flash. As of now Im probably going to return it an just do it Manually like i was before by just putting it in Manual 5th gear..
Not sure if you've mentioned it in one of your two review videos, but in my experience after installing this week, the new Range DFM disabler also disables the auto Stop/Start on my '19 Silverado which is awesome. Only twice have I noticed something a bit annoying while using the disabler. It's something I can't replicate but has happened under similar circumstances. When coming to a stop at a red light from a higher rate of speed, I've felt as though the engine was very noticeably helping me to stop, like downshifting in a manual trans where the engine is doing a lot of the work to get you to slow down. I've never felt that sensation in the +10,000 miles prior to installing the disabler. Nothing dangerous or unsafe but just a weird event those two times this week.
I haven’t noticed the disabling of the auto start/stop because I have formed the habit of cutting it off as soon as I start the truck. I have noticed though in the past that if you are cruising at a faster rate of speed and all of a sudden start stopping hard that the trans will downshift aggressively allowing the engine to brake as well. It may be a built in “safety feature.”
Yes that also happens to me. In my own words I say it “ Boggles the fk” out while Slowing down from a high speed. Mostly happens when the knob is turned to sport mode tho.
So far so good. No major issues to report. Rarely it will not engage but will reset when you cut the truck off and start it again. This has only happened a few times in over a year.
Hey Kevin. Just subscribed. Your truck sounds marvelous. I have the older Range afm on my 07 Suburban. Have had no issues intwo years. Do you ever unhook it ? Should you let engine run w\o it every now and again. I live in NC a little over 100 miles crom you. Be good!
Hey JD! Thank you for the support! I have put 1000’s of miles on my new gen Range without any issues or unhooking it so far. I only had it not work for a few seconds one time in all that driving.
The AFM/DFM Disabler does not work with the GMC Sierra 1500 6.2L 10 speed transmission at this time. Per Range Technology they have a few kinks to work out before they can support this model truck.
I just got mine and was wondering if it has the latest firmware. Led #4 blinks 9 times. At times the On/Off shut off still occurs at a stop, have you experienced this? I too feel the surging as im am cruising with very light throttle.
I have had my auto start stop engage a couple of times recently and you will feel those surges sometimes. The range and the ECU are fighting with each other for control. The range seems to constantly override the engines computer.
@@KevinsAutoChannel I just got mine today. I plug it in and it cycled the lights, but I only have 1 red light on with the engine running 🤔 I'll give tech support a call in the morning. It shows it date of July 17th, 2020 on the box. Thanks for getting back to me so quick. 👍
