    2015 Silverado with the 5.3 motor.
    150k miles and transmission failure. $6300 for rebuild and billet torque converter.
    Installed AFM disabler when back from Trans repair. Now at just under 152k miles I suffered a complete engine failure. It is costing over 10 grand to replace the motor.
    I never missed or overextended an oil change. Went from running perfectly to DOA very quickly with no early symptoms.
    No more GM products for me.

    Currently own a 6.2 Denali 2022 with 126000 kms & engine sized up with no warnings or engine light problems or anything. I was quoted 14grand for a new rebuilt engine from GM stock. I was leaning & hoping to go with the full internal delete kit but with that cost of the engine. It’s insane. I’ve had the vehicle for 3years, Canadian from Alberta here.

    If there's any lawyers out there watching videos relating to the poor design of the GMC engines and transmission there needs to be a class action law suit against GMC for knowingly setting up consumers to fail. I had to replace both my engine and transmission after 112,000 miles which is just over the warranty mileage and a few months after my extended warranty expired. The DOD/DFM/AFM and the transmission temperature sensor have been known failure issues since their inception. I've been a loyal American made car owner for over 47 years and will never own another one. Toyota Tundra here I come. All these ridiculous environmental constraints and regulations are just added costs to the consumer with no documented benefit to the environment. Total crap!

    Is there any effect to the lifters using the disabler.

    • @normanpersing2475
      @normanpersing2475 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @367scotty Truck ran and shifted like a truck should. Only noticed a 2 tenths of a mpg drop in fuel economy. Still my engine failed. Shop working on it can't pinpoint the cause. Customers shouldn't have to be burdened with the cost of an AFM delete. GM needs to stand behind their product better. To gain customer loyalty, they need to be loyal to those that buy their products or like me, will lose them customers.

    • @8020Media
      @8020Media  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      S - Yes, using an AFM disabler can affect the lifters over time, but in a mostly positive way. Since AFM lifters are designed to collapse when cylinder deactivation is activated, keeping AFM disabled forces them to stay fully engaged in V8 mode, which reduces wear and the risk of lifter failure due to repeated activation and deactivation. However, if lifters are already worn, a disabler won't fix pre-existing issues and may still cause ticking noises if they are sticking or damaged. Long-term, running full-time V8 mode reduces stress on the valvetrain, minimizes oil consumption, and can help prevent AFM lifter collapse failures, making the engine more reliable.

    Just an FYI, software deleting the AFM/DFM does NOT solve the lifter issues. They still can and do fail with AFM/DFM disabled by software. I am one of many people that have experienced lifter failure with it software disabled. The ONLY way to get rid of it is a full delete kit with a new cam, lifters, and a vlom block off plate in addition to software. ,

    • @8020Media
      @8020Media  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

      They still can fail because you of course still have all of the AFM-equipped hardware in the car, like the special AFM lifters that are inherently problematic. But disabling it via software does still significantly reduce the likelihood of it happening, just doesn't completely prevent problems. But yes, only way to get complete protection is to do a full delete but I would recommend doing that only if you actually have a failed lifter first, otherwise the cost is tougher to justify.

    So I have been curious about these. I just got my 2022.5 Silverado 1500 with a 2.7 back from the dealer this past week after having it being gone for 2 weeks. I had a camshaft and lifter failure at 50,000 miles. My question, and concern, is if you are not having the active fuel management cycling while it's disabled, does that lead to other problems with the system down the road because it's not being activated or lubricated... specifically meaning the camshaft and the mechanism that causes it to cycle back and forth when activating and deactivating cylinders

    Does it disable the auto stop? My son runs a "Range" in his truck and the auto stop is non existent.I an trying to decide if the "Boost" product is an equal too the "Range" in these performance areas at a lower price? I have read the reviews on Amazon on both, Although, the "Range " has far more reviews than the "Boost" product there seems to be thousands of reviews on the "Range " product versus the "Boost "product. Can anyone share some light on this for me before I make a purchase please?

      K - We'd love to. Our device is newer, therefore, doesn't have the amount of reviews that Range's device does. Both of our devices work in a similar way - the big difference with our device is we have a very low power draw compared to Range. Our device only draws 0.71mA of power when the vehicle is turned off whereas Range’s device will draw about 6mA. Their device is also manufactured in China for what it’s worth. Also, yes, our device does disable start/stop. Let us know if you have any other questions! We're here to help.

      That was my next question concerning unplugging when I'm not driving it. Two years ago, I bought a 2017 Chevy silverado with a 6.2, and the lifters failed. I currently have it at the dealership getting fixed. The warranty is only paying for the damaged parts, and I was recommended to replace the rest of them from the same head since the head is taken apart to avoid future problems. So I have to pay for the rest of the cost. Does this problem cause the transmission fluid temperature sensor to fail sometimes? Because the check engine light will come on and noticed the transmission fluid temperature fluctuating or sometimes will show nothing.

      @8020Media yes there are. One is a free hack, one is a relatively inexpensive obd2 plug n play that you need to set EVERY time you turn the vehicle on and won'tprotect your engine (the only reason people are looking to do the DOD delete), and the other is a complete overhaul of the top end at a price so high that if gm isn't footing the bill then only a gullible individual would go with it. Seems like a pretty clear choice (unless you're selling option # 2) 😉

    I watch videos from car wizard. I think alot of people have heard of him. I am NOT a mechanic. I know zilch. We have a 2016 Camaro SS Convertible that is our fun car. Never drive it. 18000 miles. Car wizard talks about dod and I thought ok. Let's get rid of that. I thought maybe it's just resetting the cars computer to not do that. I had zero idea all that stuff had to be replaced!!! Wow

    What a POS system GM came up with. Had collapsed lifter on cylinder 4. $1500 to fix. Just over 1400 miles later, cylinder 7 collapsed. Decided to DIY this one. What a pain. Found this video and ordered.

    Everyone is being served a huge shit sandwich. Maybe it is best to wait and see if Trump deregulates the auto industry.
    Buy other brands. Looks like GM is a waste of time!

    If you just disable you still have "defective" lifters there waiting to fail. If you want to keep engine/truck for a number of years DELETE is only way to go. New lifters, new cam. This design by GM is pure, unadulterated Garbage !! Will never buy another new truck. $50 - 80k for this crap, I don't think so folks !!
