- My first ride on a Buell and it's the touring model. Possibly the best handling motorcycle I've ever rode. Thank you to its owner. Wahoo!

Welcome to the Buell smile club! :D I have an '06 Ulysses that I put in the purchase order sight unseen immediately after testing riding both an XB12S and XB9SX. Have ridden on several multi-day trips, 700 miles from NC to NY in one day and love it. Brings out the hooligan in me back and forth to work and makes me a better rider in the mountains than I have a right to be. Despite no factory support or mechanical aptitude on my end, I can't let it go. Maybe a new Tracer 9 GT could win me over but have yet to ride one.
The theory of the build on these bike is so different from any other motorcycle. Truly amazing machines!
Amazing motorbike. Nowadays it begins to be valued fairly. It's like nothing you've ever driven. I have one (2006) for a few years and it's one of the motorcycles i enjoy de most. Own personality, robust, agile, fast and very fun. I loved it.
It was an amazing bike to ride. Would love to take one on a long trip. Wahoo!
My wife and I toured France Spain and Portugal, my wig said it was the most comfortable touring bike we ever had and we have had a few, I also toured Switzerland and Italy on it inc the alps Davos etc had the full luggage system Bagster harness and large bag K&N and open pipe great to work on and had the extra air intake to stop the fan coming on in hot weather a truly great bike with a great motor, completely trashed by the uk moto media who had no idea, Pete 🇫🇷
You have lived a good life 🙂 envious
Love this Buell model that he drove in the video. It had that great Harley smoothness that kicked in with just a little speed. I nearly hit the dust on one years ago because of what I believed was the short wheel base. How did it ride 2 up for you? Did the short wheel base ever give you concerns at highway speeds? I love this bike but wondering if I should be looking to get a HD Pan America instead strictly due to the short wheelbase on the Buell.
@@r.williamcomm7693 absolutely loved the bike and yes you could tell it had a short wheel base. As far as a Pan American goes, that is one beautiful machine in my opinion. Have drove a couple of them. Great bikes
Yes it's amazing but the mainstream land tuna couldn't understand it
My GF it says the same thing never wants me to sell it
Still riding my Ulysses, thanks Fuzzy
Rock on!
Had a 2 day test ride on the Buell XB12R Firebolt back in '03. Awesome for blasting round the mountain roads in Scotland!
Very cool!
I own an 08, funnist all around bike I have ever rode on the street. The little extra suspension travel soaks up the rough rural back roads, and it still carves corners. Little boaty in a straight hard pull but it pulls hard and smears a smile across my face.
These motorcycles are pure art. Love the bike. Wahoo!
It's basically the Harley Pan AM without the tech. I would like to ride Buell's new SuperTouring.
You and me both. Wahoo!
Me too.Waiting for 2025 when it hopefully appears.
It uses a highly modified Sportster 1200 engine. They’re hard to come by as their owners rarely part with them which should tell you something.
Beautiful motorcycle, for sure. Wahoo!
I see Buell is back with water-cooled V-twin & looks like a great bike. The Buell V-twin is 72° V-twin on the older models that didn't use the Harley Davidson motors is the best one to get.
I don't really know a lot about them. I was very impressed with this one. Amazing handling!
You said it wasn’t a Harley engine. It’s actually a modified Sportster engine. I had a Buell XB9SX.
So, that's what I thought too. Owner said otherwise for the 1203 model. Did try and google it but info was thin. I know they did use the 90 hp sportster engine in some of them. Great fun to ride. Wahoo!
@@forgottenmotorcycles I think it would be still based on the Sportster engine, but maybe more removed?
@@bobwampler3387 Ive read they used different heads etc.
@@Sargnort I think that’s what modified means.
When Erik Buell changes pretty much EVERYTHING it’s no longer a “sportster” motor in my opinion. The Buell thunderstorm motor was never in a Harley.
Thought it had the Austrian made Rotax motor?
Not sure. Did try and google but info was thin. I know the early ones had the beefed up Sportster engine and the later ones the Rotax.
This is the Sportster engine.
By 2009 Buell had made such massive modifications to the engine that it isn't really a sportster motor any more. Definitely derived from a sportster though. The cases aren't the same nor the internals. You can put Buell heads on a sportster if you can afford it. EBR moved to the Rotax which I imagine is a far better motor. I ride a 2009 XB12XP which is the police version of the bike you have there.
@@jasonlassen7599 sounds like a very interesting motorcycle 🙂
Harley Davidson was so stupid in shutting down Buell. Just one of their many stupid desions that they made.
Truly unfortunate
I was very disappointed as well. Truly a brilliant high-tech American-made bike far superior to the Harleys, they even came with a 2-year unlimited miles warranty.
And the manager of a local Euro bike store told me he had one and put 160,000 Mi on it Coast to Coast east to west north to south with no problems.
At the time H-D shut down Buell, they were giving away bumper stickers, Screw it, let’s ride! I think that was H-D,s hypocrisy at its finest.
Wahoo
