After using riceberry face serum by litttleextrra for three weeks, here's what I experienced: Benefits: It successfully softens and evens out the skin, giving it a gentle glow. I've also seen a decrease in my genetic dark circles (avoiding the eye area is recommended). It has also helped fade dark spots on my sister's skin. Downsides: Personally, mine is dry and dull skin, and using the serum every day exacerbated my dryness. I recommend using it thrice a week along with a effective moisturizer to prevent dryness. I haven't seen any noticeable improvement in bronzing or skin tone issues in first 3 weeks. Update 2 months later: After nearly two months of consistent use, I regard it my go-to serum. It has started showing promising outcomes. My skin glows, dark circles lessened, and dark spots reduced a lot. So patience is key when using this face serum.
My feedback after 15 days, this rice berry serum has proven to be highly effective for brightening skin and reducing dark spots. Its light, non-greasy formula is absorbed quickly, leaving skin radiant and smooth.

Yes! What you said about the 'problems' with vitamin C formulas is 100% true for me. I tried to use the Ordinary's 8% vitamin C, 2% alpha arbutin and I absolutely hated the formula. It made me flush, it heated up my skin for minutes and the oil just sat on the skin. I used up the whole bottle and I think I saw some improvements in my skin, but I won't buy it again. My other problem with finding skincare in general is that I don't make any money yet, so my budget is very limited. So I just use Ordinary's products and some drugstore products that are availible for me (in Europe). And I managed to fing a vitamin C formula that I actually like among those drugstore products, which I'm very happy with
Wow, you have no idea how good the timing is for this video! I had a reaction so bad to a new vitamin Cserum (well Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, you know, supposed to be gentler…) on Wednesday that I had to go to the emergency room yesterday. And now it will take a while for my skin to get better. So any form of Vit C is out for me. But I’m still hoping to find gentler alternatives? And boom, you just post this video! Thank you!
Very interesting do you know which products? Nivea isn’t cruelty free and I’ve had some problems with their advertising especially overseas, but if there is a really hero standup product, I would love to learn more about it and see if I could find a cruelty free dupe!!
Omg yes I had this same question! I just purchased the ordinary's copper peptides because it is an antioxidant and was wondering if it could replace vitamin C
@@SparklingShadows97that’s my favorite copper peptide serum.. it works really well and does just as amazing things for the skin as vitamin c.. it does it in a different way in the skin. I had to replace vitamin c with this and I really noticed a difference 2 months in
I have quite dry and sensitive skin and I’ve been using a really gentle formula by a Korean brand called cos de baha. I would definitely recommend it to others so far!
Been following this channel for a couple years now, and i love how you help women to feel good about their real skin! Could you please do a video about skin lightening? As a South Asian, this is HUGE where am from...with so many toxic beauty standards and practices including skin bleaching, glutathione injections and whatnot. Despite majority of people being darker toned, dark shades of foundation are so hard to find because everyone's goal with makeup is to look as white as possible. Kind of funny and sad at the same time.
I appreciate you being here, and caring about your health, hygiene, and the science behind your beauty! And thank you so much for requesting this topic. It’s definitely a difficult one, but I do think it’s worth discussing, especially the dangers of it. Sometimes I feel like it’s not my place to speak about, even though I have expertise and skincare, I would want to invite someone to speak about the social and societal implications. If you know of anybody, I’d be happy to learn from them about their social experience, and then dive into the ingredients and the dangers!
@@CassandraBankson thank you so much for this lovely response! Monica Ravichandran is another youtuber i follow, and i was super excited to see your collab on sunscreen. Haven’t even watched this yet but I’m so excited. I’ve tried a few different vitamin c serums and the only results I get are super painful breakouts. Really looking forward to trying some alternatives!
Thank you for this video❤ I love using Alpha Arbutin in my routine instead of Vit C. I have been using it since 4 months instead of Vit C when I was breaking out.
@@CassandraBankson Oh my god! Thanks for the reply :) I have been using Minimalist Alpha Arbutin serum, so far it’s working really well. No breakouts, even and brighter skin tone after a month or so but it takes time to work on dark spots. I am planning to try BOJ next.
Thank you Cassandra! I love your videos-they are educational, fun and help me feel more empowered/less intimidated when buying skincare. Keep up the great work! 😊❤
My go to vitamin c is educated mess golden hour. It was specifically studied on sensitive skin with no issues. The gold and glutathione complex also fully stabilizes the vitamin c, and increases penetration and efficacy while making the vitamin c way more gentle. It’s kind of a paradoxical complex in a sense but when you read into how it works it makes sense and obviously isn’t a real paradox.
I’ve been using pycnogenol under my sunscreen for two years because you mentioned it before and worked on my skin like wonders, but I started using tretinoin before 7 months and I noticed that my skin gets red and irritated if I use pycnogenol so I stopped using it until I finished using tretinoin
I’m so happy that it worked wonders for you! But yes, using it along with Tow, it might be a little bit much, especially since the tretinoin is oil, soluble and the pycnogenol is an anhydrous solution meaning that it is more of an oily base. This could potentially mean that the tretinoin really gets comfortable in that oily solution, and perhaps penetrates deeper or differently. Great job, isolating your variables, and doing one thing at a time to help any irritation! So proud of you.
Hey Cassandra i just needed to share this with you!!! Have you heard of this K-Beauty product called " Numbuzin No.5 Glutathione Vitamin Concentrated Serum" it has Ubiquinone, Alpha Arbutin, Niacinamide, 3-4 forms of Vit C, Tranexemic Acid, Vitamin E, other humectants and loads of other really nice ingredients!!! All in one. I think this product formulation would just absolutely blow your mind you should definitely check it out
I couldn’t use vitamin c as it gave me eczema around my eyes. However I found I could use it in the form of Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate for some reason so I stick with those.
Appreciate you and the love so much! I hope you enjoyed the video. I’ve still had my struggles, but I am working on getting through things. One step at a time! And of course, tons of growth along the way. Sending you so much love
I really enjoyed your video and I'm a big fan of you, Cassandra, but I didn't really enjoy the high pumped up music playing during the entire video. I can understand in the beginning maybe for several minutes but then maybe change to no music or something a little more relaxing. Love you!
I’ve been using Alpha Arbutin for a few years now and I love it!! The ordinary one to be exact! I cannot use vitamin c products. My skin gets very reactive. Red, itchy, then flaky and dry. It’s horrible. Aloha Arbutin saved my skin
Vitamin c doesn’t burn me at all. But I get these weird bumps all over my forehead in particular. Like not acne… but maybe closed comedones? They never come to a head or hurt … but just weird bumps!
@@gnic1717 could be malassezia or closed comedones. Vitamin C shouldn’t make either one of them worse, but it could be the other ingredients in that serum, especially if there's oils in it.

I know, right? I wonder how come their products were mentioned as a non-Korean alternative, especially taking into account they offer body care which contains Q10.
@@kikiTHEalienIf you mean why they weren't* mentioned, probably because they are nor cruelty-free and have been pretty openly homophobic in the recent past.
Yeah the fact that Q10 has been used and researched for decades yet still doesn't have a tiny fraction of the evidence that vitamin C does leads me to believe that it might not be that great of a skincare ingredient.
Ive tried multiple vitamin c skin care products and i feel like it just doesnt absorbe and films on my skin and they all smell to me 😅 i havr alot of pigmentation so have been recommended to use it so this is great info fo try something else that might help Thank you
Oh no! This is really great for me to hear. Do you have generally acne, prone, or breakout from skin? Oily or dry? It’s really good to hear about the pycnogenol. I know it is an anhydrous solution (no water solution) so it can be a bit oily and I could see the rest of the formula, causing some breakouts in those that are super . There are other picnignol products, such as the pine one from urban&and that may be better if you want the benefits without the breakout. Still I’m so happy you shared this with me! Really helps me understand different skin perspectives, and make the right recommendations for those in need.

The last three that you're holding in your hand in your awesome video (not the Ordinary dark colored one but rather the alpha arbutin, the glo recipe and gel moisturizer) which would you layer 1, 2, 3 please? Also only in am or am and pm? Great video as I have hyperpigmentation! Thank you!
What order should I apply these following products. Glow recipe cloudberry bright essence toner, The ordinary Alpha arbutin 2%+HA, The ordinary pycnogenol. ?¿
I have a swamp here in southern Finland that has cloudberries, and when I tell you they are hard to get, I mean it! You have to walk for hours to get a few litres of the orange gold. The farther north you go, the more common they get. So my spot in the south of Finland is suuuuupppeeer seceret😶🌫️
Oh my goodness, this sounds so difficult, but so rewarding! How cool to hear. And when you say in a swamp, are they growing in the water or close to it? Or do you need to go through a swamp to get to them? I would also love to know how they taste! I don’t think I’ve ever had one. This sounds absolutely magical! I wish I could go to Finland just to see them growing in the wild and experience that lol. I’m sending you so much love and thank you for sharing this amazing anecdote with me! Truly put a smile on my face.
Yes and also pilings and kojic soap but if you do any of this try to stay far from the sun as much as possible in that period because you can make it worse in that case.
Hi, Cassandra! I started with vitamin C (SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic cuz sis we don't play about skin here) and then added alpha arbutin about a year later (The Ordinary cuz sis we don't play about skin here), and I wouldn't give up either one. I have a question for you, though: I've seen you say in previous videos (we stan you in this house cuz sis we don't... ya, you get it) that the powder makeup brush sunscreens don't really do much in terms of blocking the sun, but I notice a couple for sale on your shop. Has this changed? Because that would be everything- I hate reapplying sunscreen on makeup days. Thanks for all that you do!
I have a weird reaction, mentioned it to my doctor even but they haven't heard of it. Whenever I use vitamin c serums (tried 3) my hands start smelling very weird. It is not because of the contact to the serum as I was using just the tips of my fingers, and the full inside of my hands smells awful
Hey Cassandra ! Hope you're doing wel. I was wondering if you could use the Alpha Arbutine serum only under your eyes ? I struggle with dark under eyes and It comes from the fact that my skin there is really thin and you can see through it (the veins and stuff). Does it help that area or am I just f*cked ? ahah I have tried so many eye serums that you recommended that are great for puffiness and stuff but never helped reduce that dark blueisj pupleish color. It would be great if you could make a video about that specific problem and what I can use or do to reduce it. Thank you !!
My face is not just dry but extremely sahara desert dry. It gets flaky at times and as soon as I am done washing my face, it feels tight in just seconds!!!! I am extremely worried that it might result in melasma as it already runs in the family. What do I do!?!?
Do any of these contain hyaluronic acid? I’m asking because I want to avoid any products that contain hyaluronic acid in them. Hyaluronic acid is not a good ingredient for people like myself who have sensitive skin. Instead of hydrating, it dries out my skin to an extreme level.
I've been very fascinated with the uses of rice water, but I'm a bit skeptical of buying it (both for the prices of something that seems relatively easy, and because of the marketing of these products - there's always something added, sometimes it's just a diluted idea of a product than the product itself). Is there any safe way to prepare your own rice water, do you recommend it or do you know any selling ones that really are worth it? Been a fan for years, started my skin journey almost 6 years ago because of you!
It’s so wonderful to have you here beautiful! Six years of amazing skin care, knowledge, and dedication to your health and beauty is amazing and I’m so proud of you! And when it comes to rice water, I love a few things about it. Of course, the history, but there are other medical studies that have shown benefits. As you said, there are so many different products out there that claim to have rice water, but I don’t believe all are created equally. if you want to, of course make it yourself, and it’s a DIY that I don’t absolutely hate. But even with purchasing products, there are a few that I think are worth it. The glow recipes is great because it has some rice water as well as other fermented ingredients. There are also products from Goodal that are rice focused. I know that rice water is also in quite a few Beauty of Joseon products and are good. I wonder if I could put together a list for you!
@@CassandraBankson Thank you so much for taking the time to read my comment and even answering it! I would love that! Also, can't wait for your next hauls, very curious to see what our girl has been up to and maybe get inspired!
Hey! I bought the cloudberry tonerb3cause of your last video. I use it in the morning with my vitamin c serum, after that a vitaamin c cream and then a spf 50. Is that to much?
Isn’t it such a great texture and formula?! It’s one of my favorite products from Glow Recipe, even more so than the avocado and watermelon drops. I love my fat waters lol. And it’s totally fine to use a vitamin C serum and moisturizer along with the glow recipe. And always using SPF 50! if you wanted to skip a step, it seems like your vitamin C, serum and cream may have the same active ingredients, so you could try using one instead of both, just to see if you like the feeling of taking a step out of your routine. I really hope this helps! And would love to hear updates on what you decide to do and how it works for you.
@@CassandraBankson ok great. I don't want to skip a step, since I love both my vitamin c products ☺️ I found a liquid hydrator and I'd say it has a very similar texture (it's from the drugstore here in Germany) I'm using this in the nighttime and this texture is even a bit better 🤣. I'm excited to see how my skin will be enhanced by keep using the glow recipe one 😍

And now it will take a while for my skin to get better. So any form of Vit C is out for me. But I’m still hoping to find gentler alternatives? And boom, you just post this video! Thank you!
What a horrible experience! I hope you are ok and that you can find an alternative 💛💛 wishing you all the best
@@chick-a-roo4860 thank you, it is getting better. And I will look into the alternatives Cassandra mentioned, but not just yet…
Nivea has been adding Q10 as active ingredient in both face and body skincare for what feels like more than a decade now.
True but I honestly doubt it's at concentrations that make a difference.
I feel if it actually worked that well it would be way more common and there would be research backing it up... but there just isn't.
Very interesting do you know which products? Nivea isn’t cruelty free and I’ve had some problems with their advertising especially overseas, but if there is a really hero standup product, I would love to learn more about it and see if I could find a cruelty free dupe!!
Copper peptides are antioxidants and also produce collagen..
This is what I use. Can copper peptides replace Vit c?
Omg yes I had this same question! I just purchased the ordinary's copper peptides because it is an antioxidant and was wondering if it could replace vitamin C
@@SparklingShadows97that’s my favorite copper peptide serum.. it works really well and does just as amazing things for the skin as vitamin c.. it does it in a different way in the skin. I had to replace vitamin c with this and I really noticed a difference 2 months in
@@sadieluvyyes you can
I have quite dry and sensitive skin and I’ve been using a really gentle formula by a Korean brand called cos de baha.
I have no clue whether she knows about skincare science, but i do know she is very passionate about colourism and openly speaks of how it has impacted her personally. Maybe you could touch base with her! 🥰

I am definitely ordering the BOJ and Glow recipe. Can't wait to try these out as I have really sensitive skin due to medication. Thank youuuu
Great video!! Excellent information... thanks Cassandra! ❤
Your hair is looking beautiful btw! Love your videos, I’m a long time subscriber and will be forever 💜🦋
Thanks for the upload, have been dealing with sensitized skin lately and vit c has been a no go.
What about vitamin C derivatives? Paula's Choice has a great one 😍
I am in love with the vitamin C serum from Vanicream. Super safe for my sensitive skin.
I’m so happy to hear this! And so happy to hear it has been working for you. Would love to know which one you are using!
Perhaps you could find a product we could all afford. Cloudberry is very exspensive. Thank you for sharing
I'm trying mary and may blackberry serum
Thank you Cassandra! I love your videos-they are educational, fun and help me feel more empowered/less intimidated when buying skincare. Keep up the great work! 😊❤
Timeless has a q10 serum and Eucerin has 2 q10 wrinkle creams, with with pro retinols and one without.
All in one.
I think this product formulation would just absolutely blow your mind you should definitely check it out
I wonder when idebenone is going to catch on, given how amazing the ingredient is that is bound to happen sooner or later.
I need to look more into this! Thank you so much for the note
Hi Cassy, can COQ10 be used with copper peptide serum? Love ❤ ur videos.
Have never been able to use vitamin c. Will definitely try out that glow recipe serum!
I couldn’t use vitamin c as it gave me eczema around my eyes. However I found I could use it in the form of Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate for some reason so I stick with those.
Thank you for the sensitive skin alternatives! I hope you are feeling better these days. Peace & Love
Love you!
I’ve been waiting for this video!!!😭🫶🏻 my skin can’t handle vitamin c at all.
Just here to say your hair is gorg in this video!
Same here! Can I ask what vitamin c products you use? I tried the Timeless 20% vitamin C and it gave me the bumps
Malassezia
@@gnic1717 could be malassezia or closed comedones. Vitamin C shouldn’t make either one of them worse, but it could be the other ingredients in that serum, especially if there's oils in it.
I want to buy the glow recipe soley because it looks pretty 😍
I love how i understood all your terminology! I’m studying the concepts but not within the beauty landscape. I finally understand why vitamin C works lol. ❤
Eucerin Q10 anti wrinkle cream I heard is a good one
I have heard that from most of the derm influencers as well.
I know an Aya! She and her younger sister came to our elementary school from Japan. They learned English and even graduated from high school with us. Her sister might still be in the states but Aya went back to Japan, got married and had a baby. She now works for Amazon as a translator. Lucky!! I don't even know another language other than English but that will change soon. Anyway, I love my Aya too! lol She's such a great person.
How amazing is that that I happen to have just found the beauty of Josen serum at tj maxx!!! (For $10.99!) so far I love it! I need to try more from this brand!
Wait, this is amazing! Which serum was it? The alpha Arbuton? I need to know more and I’m so happy for you!
CoQ10 only makes think of Nivea's antiaging skincare. They've advertised this ingredient for as long as I remember seeing ads on tv
Ive tried multiple vitamin c skin care products and i feel like it just doesnt absorbe and films on my skin and they all smell to me 😅 i havr alot of pigmentation so have been recommended to use it so this is great info fo try something else that might help
Thank you
Can you do a review on the glow drops from glow recipe? How to use them and when to use them in your routine?
Good morning! 😊
How’s Stratia C+C Serum (Vitamin C + CoQ10)? What are your thoughts on this product?
What about the citrus oils or other in the toner that could cause irritation? There are a lot of them.
This video came to me right on time.
Hi Cassandra
I have dark circles from allergies called allergy shiners. What products would you recommend to use to change this?
Is Reservatrol and Ferulic acid a good sub for vitamin C?
Thank you! I have tried so many vitamin c serums and I can’t do it, it burns my skin so badly.
Can i combinate pycnogenol and vit c? Or pycnogenol and alpha arbutin?
And wtb alpha arbutine and vit c?
Hi Cassandra, would you recommend the inkey list’s q10 serum?
I love q10 and alpha arbutin but my skin HATED the ordinary’s Pycnogenal 😩 broke me out so bad!
Same. It is one of the worst ingredients i've ever used in terms of breaking me out.
Thank youuuu needed this!
I’m so happy to hear!
I've tried alpha arbutin but it's too strong for my skin and I've noticed I get painful pimples post usage 😢
I’ve used the Paula’s Choice Antioxidant Pore Purifer for years and it is my holy grail. It has THD, Salicylic Acid, Azelaic Acid, and COQ10. I’ll try other products, but I always have it on hand.
Oh my goodness yes! The polish choice one is so good. Love love love! And I love what you said about trying new things, but always having a go to on hand. That’s exactly what I do when trying out new products just in case they don’t work! Lol you are brilliant and I hope you’re having an amazing day
@@CassandraBankson You replying to my comment made my day!! I’m over 30, but I’m obsessed with makeup and skincare to the point where I’ve thought about going to aesthetics school. I always love learning from your videos!
Timeless Beauty has a nice CoQ10.
Thank you!
Are these suitable for fungal acne?
What about Resveretrol & Niacinamide they also act as antioxidants i hope 😅
Can Pycnogenol or Alpha Arbutin be used alongside copper peptide?
It’s not vegan, the use honey in a lot of ther stuff, but derma_e uses coq10 and psygenol, I like ‘em!
Do we need to look for certain percentage of CoQ10 in a product for it to have antioxidant effects on skin like we do for L-Ascorbic acid?
I also use cosrx snail mucin power essence. If I was to add the glow recipe product would I put that under or over the snail mucin?
Glow recipe under
What order should I apply these following products.
Glow recipe cloudberry bright essence toner, The ordinary Alpha arbutin 2%+HA, The ordinary pycnogenol.

Indie Lee CoQ10 the one that I use for a couple years now.
Ooo I haven’t tried that one but now I want to! Indie is so good
Would Lasers also work to remove hyperpigmentation issues? Either from Postinflammatory acne or Melasma?
Yes and also pilings and kojic soap but if you do any of this try to stay far from the sun as much as possible in that period because you can make it worse in that case.
May I ask this: What are "pilings"?@@ada6044
Inkey list got only CoQ10
the thing that Glow recipe does not disclose the percentage of Q10 make it a no go..
I have a weird reaction, mentioned it to my doctor even but they haven't heard of it. Whenever I use vitamin c serums (tried 3) my hands start smelling very weird. It is not because of the contact to the serum as I was using just the tips of my fingers, and the full inside of my hands smells awful
Vitamin C burns and make me red too…for the longest time I thought I was doing something wrong
Also niacinamide!
I’ve used Truth Treatment’s Vit C balm. Best stuff in the world. Never heard anyone talk about it. Made by a cosmetic pharmacist.
I'm sad that The Ordinary discontinued Ascorbic Acid 8% + Alpha Arbutin 2%.

I know!! I’m deviatated!!
I can’t catch if this happens after my vitamin c or retinol 😢
Ahh I feels - we have done a video on retinitis too! I hope that helps 😉
Hey! I bought the cloudberry tonerb3cause of your last video. I use it in the morning with my vitamin c serum, after that a vitaamin c cream and then a spf 50. Is that to much?
Oh and I have no issues with vitamin c 😅
Great video, but what’s up with the awful background music? It’s ruining it cause it seems to ‘rush’ the video.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate this feedback. We’ve been playing around with different editing techniques on the team and you’re right, the background noise is a little bit loud here! I will look into some different audio tracks and adjusting. Thank you so much for pointing this out to me!
Never vitamin C suits me I tried every brand my skin burns and it gives me acne , after watching this video I tried Cloudberry Toner from Glow recipe and it works will a magic starting now bottle today . Basically if you have irritative sensitive skin and you do not like oil products which sit on top of skin and does not absorb in the skin, you can use cloudberry essence toner by glow recipe.
I find Glow Recipe too escented
I have a bunny named Cloudberry
Definitely wouldn’t call the glow recipe safe for sensitive skin. I’d call it worse that vitamin C bc of all the citrus oils.
Or maybe bc, as my dermatologist said, by the time Vit C gets to us… the benefits are already deluded.
I don’t use Vit C so I am anxiously on the edge of my seat to continue listening to this video.
