    Notes about this video:
    1. Watch the full chat I had with Dr Abs about the best skincare practices in the Members Section: bit.ly/TH-cam-Member-LauraTryUK
    2. I could have included things like vitamin C, niacinamide and red light masks in this video, but a). I wanted to keep this video simple b). show the products that will make a significant difference to skin and c). show the products I use. I don’t use anything else.
    3. Not only is this skincare routine effective and affordable, it’s great for travelling because it’s so simple!
    4. I tried castor oil as a moisturiser. It caused milia and spots within days. Also, it doesn't have a similar structure to our skin's natural oil and it's not ideal for most skin types like the oils I recommended in the video, so it didn't make the list.
    5. Since I started eating a high protein, nutrient-dense meal plan, my skin improved dramatically. You can watch a video about the meal plan here: th-cam.com/video/eRds3IKwIXc/w-d-xo.html
You can download a copy of the high-protein meal plan here: lauratry.gumroad.com/l/high-protein-meal-plan

      Hi Laura,
Great, informative video as always. I don't do a skin care routine but I have a tip for you and everyone else.
If you have a pimple coming, or other similar skin issues, take a clove of fresh garlic and cut off a thin slice. It should be 'juicy' - squeezing it a bit helps to get more juice out of the garlic. Then rub the the juicy garlic onto the pimple/problematic areas.
It is a magic cure and will either prevent a pimple completely (if you catch it early) or heal it/get rid of it super fast. Do this twice a day until the problem is gone. It works better than anything else and is sitting in most people's cupboards already.
The only side effect is that the garlic dries out the area slightly.
Anyways.. keep up the good work, love the videos!

Speaking of the Omega 3 in a form of Fish Oil, please watch the following on TH-cam: ‘Jonas Kuehne ‘Stop Taking Fish Oil’ - comes from the real MD and I can’t agree more with it. If you would like to continue taking Omega 3 as a supplement, please have a look at the alternative sources e.g. Omega 3 coming from seaweed, which was raised in a lab environment😊 or flaxseed, etc.❤

Oh my God, I must be the exception to the rule. I am a 60 yr old woman and my skin has never been better than now.
I use like eight different products that I rotate in the different days of the week.
I double cleanse my skin at night when I wear makeup
    Then a gente tóner
3 or 4 nights a week I swear by using the pomade A131, then a moisturizer
2 nights a week I use a chemical aha exfoliator
When not exfoliating I either use retinol or the A131 and Versed dark spot corrector
In the morning a gentle cleanser, murad vitamin c serum, Tula vitamin C moisturizer and a very good spf
I used to follow a simpler routine and my skin was far from beautiful as it is now
A facial once a month or every 6 weeks
    Blessings to you all❤

I love your content Laura but let me disagree with you on replacing moisturizers with oil/fat(emollients, which don't stop transepidermal water loss that much unlike occlusives). Moisturizers also contain humectants(glycerin, Hyaluronic acid, etc.) & occlusives( petrolatum, baby oil, etc). I think most people would benefit from having a moisturizer on hand.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it already; I’ve been using vitamin A derivatives (tret, retinaldehyde, retinol) to and from for about 20 years now. What’s rarely mentioned (not sure why) is that there’s a link between retinoid use and meibomian gland dysfunction (one aspect of dry eyes). I ended up with it and I’m not sure whether my tret use was to blame, but I think it’s worth mentioning.

The sun good for us, the excessive blue light from all the indoor lighting, now mostly LED and the screens is what is damaging. Ironically, people are now paying money for red light devices for their skin , then putting on sunscreen blocking out the much more intense sun, which is 40% infared.

Morning routine - double splash with plain water (done this nearly my whole life), a few times a week I apply a layer of glycolic acid. Then CeraVe day cream (spf 30). Let that set a bit. Then I mix a tinted sunscreen (spf 60) with a BB cream (spf 30), and this is my ‘foundation’. Then I apply my makeup.
Evening routine is an oil cleanser first, then CeraVe foaming cleanser (double cleanse). While my face is still wet I apply my tretinoin and let it absorb for 20 minutes. (You’re not supposed to apply to wet skin, but my skin is very accustomed to this way). Then I apply a layer of shea butter.
Every so often I use a lactic acid scrub at night to exfoliate, sometimes microblade, and sometimes microneedle.

I'm in my 70s, the only thing I add to your routine is a serum for lightening my age spots (it contains tranexamic acid, kojic acid, niacinamide, and alpha arbutin) and it really seems to help. I also use glycolic acid - especially on my hands and decolette, which take a lot of abuse and seem much smoother and a tad thicker when I exfoliate regularly. Finally, I live in the mountains of Arizona where the relative humidity regularly hovers near the single digits. The humidity here is even lower than the Sahara Desert. Even when I drink 8 to 10 litres of water per day, I can't keep up with TEWL. I use rich moisturiser (CeraVe Rich Moisturiser) all over all the time. "Natural skin oils" work fine in the rainy humid marine climate of England or our Pacific Northwest, but are completely inadequate in the desert.

Hi LT 👋🏼 I use oils for cleansing and moisturising. I do the oil cleansing method to clean my face. I use jojoba oil with a few drops of may chang essential oil in for a fresh lemony fragrance (I keep a 150ml pump bottle with the jojoba and add 5-10 drops of may chang. Jojoba has similar properties to the skin’s sebum and it can be used as an overall face / body moisturiser, and on hair too.
Rosehip oil is another good one for moisturising and it doesn’t have a greasy after feel. I add some rose geranium essential oil to that one.
Castor oil is good for underarms as an antiperspirant. Makes a great hand and nail treatment too as it’s a rich oil.

Thanks for the video, I would recommend you include your neck with the tretinoin. There does not need to be any peeling or dryness when first using tretinoin. You put moisturizer on before and after and start off using it every third day. As you skin gets used to it you can increase to every other day. and then every day. Then decrease the moisturizer. A longer process but no dryness or peeling and When this approach is followed, I have found everyone can use it without a problem.

I'm 61. I only use cleanser at night as well, morning is just cool water. I do use moisturizer bc I'm old and everything is drying out - lol - but my routine is a simple cleanser, moisturizer, retinol cream and sunscreen. I grew up on the beach chasing a tan until I was about 25, and then got serious about preserving my skin. I cant undo whatever damage I did those early years, but Ive never had any fillers or "treatments" and I think this very simple (but consistent) skin care has been very good for my skin to help itself over the years.

Hi Laura! I absolutely agree with the advice about being gentle and protecting acne-prone skin. Back in my youth, I had severe acne, and was prescribed strong antibiotics for several years (this was in the late '70s and early '80s) and my son even had to do Accutane, which was HARSH on his whole body. It's counter-intuitive when you have acne to use mild cleanser and to moisturize with an oil-free moisturizer, but that's what I finally did to break the acne cycle. These days, rosacea (genetic) has made my nose and cheeks look rosy, but the skin's moisture barrier is compromised. I NEVER use clay or charcoal masks, or anything w/ harsh chemicals to strip that moisture barrier. VaniCream cleanser is the only one that works for me. And a very light moisture cream. Oh, and definitely a good soft SPF lotion. I'm 61, and my skin is very smooth thanks to good genetics. But I'm not going to mistreat my face by neglect.

I’ve drastically cut down booze and upped water intake. Also my veggies, lean proteins, odd bit of fruit and whole grains. My skin looks like its had a skin peel - I kid you not! Fuel your face! I use upcircle oat cleaner in the evening with a rough flannel and some nicely hot (not too hot water). Then simple face oil. Natural brand, will swap around. No nasties, just natural ingredients. Face in morning, just a cotton flannel again with hot water, nothing else. Honestly, the less you tamper with your skin the better for it! All my products are often essential oil or natural based products, often organic. Skin has never looked better!

Am: Gently DRY rub face and neck with a Muslim or bamboo face cloth (removes skin flakes). Then rinse eyes with warm water (helps with my eye health for sport requiring good aim). Follow with a splash of cold water, filtered if possible depending on the quality of the local water. Or spray Eau Thermale Avène spring water. Apply face oil (a home blend of organic rose hip oil (the Australian brand Kosmea is the best I’ve tried over many years) and jojoba oil. I've tried so many things over the years, but I've started simplifying my routine in the past month. I have dry skin. I wash my face with water on a wash cloth at night and put on castor oil mixed with argan oil or jojoba oil (so it's not so thick and sticky). I apply it about an hour before bedtime so that it has time to absorb. I've noticed my skin is softer, skin tags that I had on my neck have lessened and my sun spots are lightening.

Ive been in the skincare biz for almost 3 decades. Went to beauty school to get my esthetician license back in 2012. I can attest to what you are saying. I do cleanse in the morning due to my face getting a little oily overnight and I've found it helps with the absorbtion of my Vit. C serum. If it's available over there you shpuld try Vanicream line. I've used their cleanser and other products for years. I do prefer them over Cera Ve. I just started seeing a derm and after I get this skin cancer cut out I am going to try tretinoin. I've used many otc retinoids and none of them did anything for me. Your skin is GORGEOUS and I always recommend a simple skincare routine to people. No need to spend your whole bank acct on a skincare routine. Less is more.

Love this video. I had no skincare routine for years and just dabbled from time to time, each time basically concluding it wasn’t worth it, until this year. I’m 46, but look early to mid 30’s.
I now use the Geek & Gorgeous A-Game20 every night, which is a 0.20% Retinal product. I use the Mary&May Eye Cream first and the. allow a little of the A-Game retinoid to creep onto the eye bag area for faster skin renewing results. I keep switching moisturizers, but at night I basically rotate between the Ordinary Squalane cleanser, their Glycolipid cream cleanser, and the Laroche-Posay Toleriane cleanser. I also have a bottle of the CeraVe cream to foam cleanser, but I’m not as fond of it for whatever reason. I wish the others came in that size though.
I’m also basically just rinsing my face with water in the mornings(although some days I cheat with an actual cleanser, usually the Laroche-Posay, or a cleansing wipe, just cuz), then I just apply The Ordinary mult-peptide+copper serum on my face and the Ordinary Multi-peptide eye serum on the eyes. I have eye bags so when I go to the gym or grocery shopping (I work from home) I use the Peter Thomas Roth temporary eye tightener, but I put on The Ordinary aloe+nag serum first to minimize the white residue that forms.
No moisturizer at any point over here and aside from my bags, I love what my skin has been up to these last few months. I tried the Allies of Skin stuff which was great, but much more expensive and more of a treat if you have the money. I did not rebuy after I ran out of their moisturizer, eye cream and cleanser, which those 3 alone set me back over $200. Not doing that again when between The Ordinary, Geek& Gorgeous and Laroche-Posay, you get the same results, just arguably only a touch slower. IMO, it’s worth diving into what works for your individual skin.

I’d never heard of these things before so thanks for the video. I’ve got 3 things I do and that’s a steam sauna which will push anything out of your skin that shouldn’t be there. Then there’s coconut oil. That stuff is incredible for moisturising and nourishing the skin particularly the face. Cheap as well. I did get a bit fed up with smelling of coconut all the time so tried the smell and taste free one which works just as well. It absorbs eventually but can take a while so what I do is put on a decent amount of it then wipe off the excess with a towel. Makes you look younger and your skin’s always soft and smooth.
I sometimes use castor oil for bags under the eyes. It’s like nature’s botox, and I can really see the difference after about a week.

I can highly recommend Skin + Me in the UK. 3 simple products - a night cream that includes tretinoine, a moisturiser, and a face wash. All included in aluminium packaging (eco friendly!!) and a subscription service. My skin is continually getting better and I no longer have skin that fluctuates with hormonal changes. The face wash and moisturiser are the best I've ever used. It's also an easy way to get the prescription for tretinoine, and the simple routine means I actually keep up with it. It's not the cheapest out there, however you don't need any other products, so I think it balances out :)

Using many skin care products depends on many variables. For example if a person works outside or inside, type of skin (in my case is oily) age, sun exposure, wear or not makeup and many more. I have super oily skin and cannot skip washing my face 2 times a day. If I do it I will have breakouts. However, I don’t need to invest in moisturizer 🧴 because I produce my own. 😅😅😅 I just need some products to cleanse and then SPF and done. Other people may need more products because other concerns. It is better to go to a dermatologist. And also learn about the topic. 😊😊😊

I started cleansing (cream cleanser), toning and moisturising when I was 12. Never had any major skin issues. Switched to natural stuff in my 30s and messed up my skin. So went back to my old skincare and it got better. After kids my skincare went out the window. No make up, no cleansing/toning/moisturising for over 5 years. My skin isn’t terrible but I now have some seasonal break outs, is now dry and I have blackheads, I have redness and I’m seeing uneven skin tone. 2 days ago I invested in new skincare and am already starting to see an improvement. However I’m easing in and only doing a nightly routine- which is fine as I’m at home most of the day. I know you say I only need a few items but so long as you get products that work together there’s no reason not to use 8 products in your routine. Many people don’t understand the ingredients in their products or whether ingredients from one product works with another. It’s possible this is what causes a lot of skin issues.

I don't know whether it's the antioxidants or what, but it's been a lot brighter since I've started doing this. I've always been an oily skin person and really struggled with moisturizers, so it's nice that there are increasing numbers of voices confirming that we don't really need them. I clicked on the tallow cream you had linked, couldn't find ingredients anywhere. From some comments, people were talked about being unhappy with ingredients on the label, one being glycerin. Without percentages, you have no idea how much is actually tallow. And it's 19.99 for a tiny jar. I buy a 16 oz tub of tallow from the local butcher for 5.99 it has basically no scent and beautiful consistency. To make it a nicer consistency, I whip it up with the mixer. I keep a small amount in the bathroom, otherwise refrigerate. I'm going to experiment with putting the contents of a vit E capsule in it, b/c that acts as an anti-oxidant so it keeps longer. I've also mixed it 1/2 and 1/2 with vanicreme to make a body lotion. You could do this with any lotion you like. This way you know exactly what you are getting, and for a fraction of the cost.

Omg you are so pretty!!!!! I just stumbled onto your channel. You are literally the real life embodiment of a fictional character in the story I've been trying to finish for years. If i was making a movie adaptation you would be the perfect person to play her!
1: I use a precleanse oil from Dermatologica
2: First Aid Beauty foaming face cleanser
3: (Once a day) Dermatologica daily superfolient when needing my most intense cleansing
4: QRX labs glycolic acid toner
5: CeraVe daily moisturizer with hyaluronic acid
For spf Supergoop unseen has been a life saver because my skin just can't tolerate sunscreen usually. This is so simple and clean it doesn't irritate my skin at all.

Loved the video ! I'm slowly reducing my routine and here's what I do
    AM : water cleanse - Vit C serum ( for dark spots ) - Moisturising SPF 50++++
PM : oil cleanser - sulfur soap - tretinoin - moisturiser
It works very well for me ! And is less time ( and money !!! ) consuming

I don't even remember when I stopped cleaning/cleansing my face in the morning :-) I simply splash it with warmluke or cool water and that's enough for me. I've reduced my skincare routine to the bare minimum in the last 8 years. Jus like you, I use tretinoin, I use Retirides which friends buy for me in Spain. I'm post menopausal so my skin is no longer as supple and tight as yours, sadly. Tretinoin doesn't seem to have been of help in "the elasticity department", sadly.

I love Dr. Abs. I've been following this routine for many years. Everything in the cosmetic industry can never produce the results of Trenontin/Retin A. This past year, after listening to Dr. Abs, I now use Squalene oil and in some cases Vaseline if very flaky. Makeup artists use this as a primer applied very thinly. Through the years I discovered that less is more. Marketing tells you otherwise. One side note, CeraVe cleansers irritate my skin. I use only at night the Skinceticals Simply Gel cleanser, the past 4 years. This bottle lasts me 5 months. Water only in the morning for the past 10 years. If I get a clogged pore, I dot with salicylic acid to let allow to surface. Thank you for sharing your experience.😊

@@LauraTryUK I’ve been using it for about a year!! That explains why my skin feels like the Atacama Desert 😂. I was using a matching face cleanser as well! 🤦🏻‍♀️. I’ve thrown it in the bin! Goodness me, I never would have known if you hadn’t of flagged it up. I’ve just bought the Tallow balm (and bought their tallow soap for my hands), the Sunscreen from Amazon, I’m opting for The Ordinary retinol 0.2 serum because of my limited budget, which i found from a UK online shop called “Cult Beauty” for £7.40. I’m excited to get started!! Thank you so much! ❤️

I use Skin + Me for my tretinoin now. It’s very reasonable. I used to see a dermatologist but just can’t afford it now. You still get an online consultation so it’s still supervised by a professional. Like you, I found simplifying my routine has worked wonders for my skin and my budget. I do use ordinary peptides for eyes as well. Enjoyed the video 😀

This video was an eyeopener. At 9:14 and 9:37, I'm assuming you are putting on cream on the sensitive areas, sandwich style, and then follow it with tretinoin? So these are the sensitive areas, around the mouth, nose and eyes?

    • @LauraTryUK
      @LauraTryUK  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

that's correct, under the mouth and around the nose is where the skin can go flaky from the tretinoin. I'm told my skin will adapt and that won't happen in the future.
As for the eyes, no dryness, I just put it there as I apply the tret in those areas as would like to reduce the crows feet.

    • @am1156
      @am1156 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@LauraTryUK Ok. Thank you. Be careful with going to close to the eyes with any retinoid, though. I did that only once; put retinol on the crease of the eyes since I figured I had got used to it, there was no more irritation and I could start ''pushing'' it a bit. Yeah, no. I felt like I had sand in my eyes for a whole week. Never again. I only put retinoids on the bony part around my eyes now. I know people say it's fine, but I'm not risking my eyes for anything.

    • @LauraTryUK
      @LauraTryUK  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

oh yes, only going to the bony bit. Figured because it's thin there the barrier cream will soften the strength a bit.

I wash sunscreen, makeup and pollution off my face at night and follow with skincare to nourish and repair my 67 year old dry skin. In the morning, at the suggestion of dermatologist Dr. Dray, I don't use water. Dr Dray says the evening skincare has long been absorbed by then. I simply apply my morning skincare routine and sunscreen. Doing this for the past 5 years has transformed my skin for the better.

I used The Ordinary retinol, and it's not the most effective one, because retinol molecula is unstable and it needs to be incapsulated to work properly, but it's expensive. For me, niacinamide is really a miracle. I'm from Belarus, and I use our local product, it costs about 2 euros and works really great (I'm 39 and my skin looks much better than in 35).

The dryness isn’t a sign that the tretinoin is working,it’s an unwanted side effect ! More hydration is what is needed !
Also your skin is only more sun sensitive during the retinization period!

Your skin doesn’t retaliate with more oil if you strip it. Your oil production is determined by genetics and hormones. Although over washing isn’t good for your skin. Your skin has absolutely no idea weather you have moisturizer on or not.

Im 63 and use Neutrogena Fragrance Free Cleanser at night. Apply pure Argan Oil, once a day either in the morning or evening. Also use Organic pure witch hazel a few times a week as a toner with an exfoliating facial pad. VERY simple, safe, and effective.Note: I very seldom wear make up. Only blush and lipstick 5-6 times a year...
