Thank you, Dr. Idriss. I have tried and like Ghost Democracy Lightbulb Vitamin C - a THD serum in dropper bottle, but I add a pump (I add a pump to all dropper bottles), Algenist - makes 2, a THD one, and an algae derived Ascorbic acid, Melano C Intensive Anti-Spot Premium Essence in an airless, opaque tube with both AA and EAA from Japan, NIOD's is very high percentage EAA, so thank you for explaining that is not necessary.
Just wanted to give you a heads up about Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate vs Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate which have a different structure (potentially significant difference in ability for the skin to utilise these chemicals). For whatever reason the names seem to be used interchangeably by many brands. They do have the same molecular weight and seem to have been registered under the same CAS number, which doesn’t help either. But, they are not the same chemical. In cosmetics you actually want Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate, based on safety and efficacy data, hence the cost. Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate on the other hand has very little efficacy and safety data. Hope this helps :)
Good to know - The Ordinary sells what it calls Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate on the front of the box; if you look at the ingredients' list though, it says tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate.
You're the best, I just love watching your informative videos. I have one request, when reviewing/recommending products can you mention what the product should NOT be mixed with. 😊

I’ve been using this one. I like it, and I have super dry and sensitive skin. But I haven’t noticed any results using it once a day. I just finished my first bottle.
Thank you for reviewing 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid. I’ve been using the Bliss World serum and loving it, but I wasn’t sure if this form of vitamin C was a reasonable ingredient or not. The video is very helpful.
I bought the glow recipe vitamin c and love it, no break outs so gentle and smells divine, thank you so much for your amazing tips and product recommendations ❤❤❤
I live in the UK and Boots has a vitamin c serum for 6 pounds which has 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid. I stopped using it for a bit and my skin got so shit and now ive started again and my skin improved like overnight! It's so much clearer and brighter but not shinier
I'm in UK... can you tell me the name of the boots serum you use? Dr iris also showed boots protect and repair serum as an alternative for ppl with ance skin, but that has some retinol ingredients ans I already use a retinol 2x per week at a low dose as I have mild rosacea and it's fine, so I'm confused about using that one...
Thanks Doc! 🙏🏻 I’m nearly 70 and crazy for Vit c serum since 10 yrs! I cannot count how many I’ve tried. Huge! I Sylvia on lAscorbic because my skin can tolerate very well! Now my holy grail is with one small brand from Hungary, Geek and Gorgeous! It’s ok at 15%, fresh production batch, easy for me to get it since I live in Italy! Any kind of serum I’ve used I’ve mixed with ferulic by the ordinary, snd since it is oily , it’s great to mix and ensure the absorption! Niacinamide follows and Spf! It’s takes so long to reach at this point, and my skin is really happy! Much love Doc ! Xoxo
Geek & Gorgeous C Glow is my go to as well. ( I order from the US and it comes super fast from Hungary and it is fairly easy to get to 60 euros for free delivery with a couple of other products and ordering CGlow for friends).
@@aly9829 thanks! On their website directly! Available in Italy as well on other online shop, but I prefer purchase at the origin for being sure I’ve a fresh batch! XX

Bliss also has 3-0 ethyl ascorbic acid in it for about $28.00 a bottle as well as olay vitamin c with peptides , niacinimide and lactic acid for about $35.00 a bottle.

Could you please do a video on what ingredients to avoid? I'm becoming more aware of skincare (thanks to you), and will start using products you recommend, but I've still got some other products left that I'm a little hesitant to use now. Thank you for providing us with such great scientifically-based information!!
I've used many bottles of the Glow Recipe Guava serum which I love, but it's soooo expensive. I also used Dr Vanita's Antioxidant power serum which also has Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate but is much cheaper with a nice gel texture. I much prefer derivatives as pure vitamin C always oxidises and irritates my skin. I find that Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate is really rare among vitamin C serums, but I heard it's it's an expensive ingredient.
Thanks so much for this video I have been using Allies of Skin for years now and have noticed a huge difference. I do mix in other brands when I feel like I need a change, I just always seem to go back to them so I thank you for the recommendations.
THDA and ATIP are probably my two favorite derivatives. I'm currently testing and liking the 35 % Vitamin C Serum from SobelSkinRx: that one contains 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, and ascorbyl glucoside. The texture on it is nice, too: I find a lot of products with high levels of 3-O ethyl ascorbic acid are often in organic solvent bases, which tend to sting on my skin after shaving, but the SobelSkinRx one is like a lightweight lotion and non-irritating. The Glow Recipe one sounds neat, so I may give that one a try in the future 😁
@@alm621 unfortunately, no: I haven't come across any dupes for it. Are there any online US retailers that will export it to Italy? A few places other than their official website also sell it, such as Sephora.
I'm wondering what us the ph of those serums? Bc tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate works around pH 5 and sodium ascorbyl phosfate works around 7. So 1 of those forms is inactive, isnt working.
@@EspadasYCopas it's slightly below 5. I can only find one source that recommends a pH of 7 to avoid hydrolysis of SAP, but even then, it's probably the derivative I care least about, so I don't really care if it degrades. Also, it's only one serum I have that employs SAP, and that one also uses EAA, THDA, and AA2G, so it's not reliant on SAP to function.
You are right about the solvent. Ordinary, Niod , Facetheory all use propanediol (sticky mess). Would love to try SobelSkin Rx but can't use THD is comedogenic for me. Minimalist has 15% EAA that is water-based. I love the formula, but I need a 20% water-based formula
Hi dr. Idriss, thank you for sharing your knowledge, you definitely taught me a lot. Something I would like you to talk about EGF and especially in connection to cancer. Thank you and many wishes from Germany :)
Thanks for this recommendation. Didn't know they did one so will check out in our local pharmacy during the week. Very reasonable price here in Europe. Hugs from Ireland everyone. Take care.
Edit: Vanicream has a Vitamin C serum that has ceramides and THD Ascorbate, and no HA :) I am going to try it out. I don't really have dark spots or hyperpigmentation, but I do have rosacea and really need my sunscreen to do it's job! I've used cocokind, mad hippie, and Seoulceuticals. I liked cocokind a lot until they reformulated it to add a mystery % of AA (I already use azelaic acid 10%). I never had good luck with any of the others I've tried. I will look into THD Ascorbate!
Love this video!! So much great info! I've found I can tolerate most Vit C but serums with Tetrahexydecyl Ascorbate makes my skin burn, turn really red and itch in ways I have NEVER before experienced. I did a lot of research to figure that out (thank you spread sheets!) but once I did - it's saved me so much pain, time and money! And I can attest - the Summer Fridays version is heavenly!
I personally love love Mad Hippie’s vita C with SAP. I’ve tried so many others for months at a time and nothing showed me results like Mad Hippie. Ulta sometimes has deals in the US and CA, but worth it at full price.
I can't wait for your line! But I have to have time to finish all of my skincare I've accumulated before, and save my pennies so I can get yours XD. I'm going to assume it'll cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm hoping it will be good
Thank you for your informative videos! Can you tell us what the primary research says about layering vitamin C (especially the active form) with BHAs and AHAs? The internet is divided on this matter - some say mixing direct acids with ascorbic acid messes up the pH that it needs to be effective, others says they are actually synergistic.
@@teresasaxena6452 yes, she mentions three in the video from a year ago, I would search that on youtube, I can’t remember their names. And then there’s also one that she didn’t mention in that video, Mad Hippie’s vitamin C serum:)
Dr. Idriss, I have extremely sensitive skin. And as I age and my skin becomes thinner.... it just gets worse. However, I have successfully used an ascorbyl glucoside derivative for four years now. I know my skin is more glowy and my skin has been protected. My question is should I make the switch to tetrahexyldeyl ascorbate? This is the best vitamin C video on TH-cam!!❤
Good morning 😀. Fantastic video as usual. Would like more clarification on when or how to incorporate acids. Bha,aha, glycolic with vitamin c in morning or evening but also with retinols. How to fit it in 2-3 days a week of acids along the other serums. Thanks 🇨🇦
Thank you for this information and review. My skin cannot tolerate L ascorbic acid and I am always looking for other forms for sensitive skin. The products in this video are unfortunately very expensive. I will look at your other videos to see whether you have recommendations for more affordable 3-O Ethyl Ascorbic Acid products for sensitive skin.

I am in Canada and love the Sunday Riley serum. The bottle is opaque, the color is white and has no scent. Surprised to see yours not fully opaque with some color
Thank you for the informative video Dr. Idriss! Now that I'm 56, my menopausal skin doesn't tolerate L Ascorbic acid well, I'm glad to know THD-A is an effective alternative. Three questions: 1) to get the SPF associated benefit, does the vitamin C (L Ascorbic acid or a C ester) need to be used with SPF directly on top, or can it be layered with other skin brighteners like Faded by Topicals? 2) Can THD-A be used with copper peptides? 3) Is that a Tom Ford perfume (over your right shoulder)?
3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is the one in BOOST UP by Trinny London, so far I'm so impressed with her products but I'd love to see what you think of her vitamin C serum and her approach to exfoliants etc
Versed has a serum called "Auto Save" that has 3% THDA in it for $25 USD if anyone's insterested. I love it so far (about a month in). It also has other powerful antioxidants and even iron oxide in it (not sure if this gives the visible light protection or not but it's in there).
Dr. Idriss please make a video on neck filler for tech neck or how to treat it, I'm 18 and I have 2 lines that are already pretty bad.
Xoxo
You look amazing! I live in Italy too, where do you buy Geek and Gorgeous here?
Geek & Gorgeous C Glow is my go to as well. ( I order from the US and it comes super fast from Hungary and it is fairly easy to get to 60 euros for free delivery with a couple of other products and ordering CGlow for friends).
@@aly9829 thanks! On their website directly! Available in Italy as well on other online shop, but I prefer purchase at the origin for being sure I’ve a fresh batch! XX
@@momdocindc that’s great ❤️
omg what the hell you're nearly 70? I swear to go you look like you're in your mid 40s, I would guess early 50s at MAXIMUM. I just turned 18 and I literally want to do whatever you're doing lol, you look so beautiful! I can't understand Italian but I'm gonna subscribe to your channel anyways haha, good luck ma'am!
Bliss also has 3-0 ethyl ascorbic acid in it for about $28.00 a bottle as well as olay vitamin c with peptides , niacinimide and lactic acid for about $35.00 a bottle.

I love these deep dives you make! You're my most trusted yt derm.
🎁🎁🎁🎁👆🌹 message that number🔝🔝🔝🔝
You videos have completely helped transform my skin and skin care routine. Thank you so much for all you do! I have less breakouts, less pimples and my skin is even brighter 😭💕💕💕💕🙏🏻
My first saturday video!! Thanks for all the information you give us💖
Could you please do a video on what ingredients to avoid?
I used The Glow Recipe one too(I received it free from my work thank gosh) So no difference and yes its quite expensive and not with the cost imo.
Have you tried the ordinary one
what did you think of vanita's serum? worth buying? thanks!
@@scrawnyrani it was ok, it was too expensive though
Can you use this under eyes?
Can you recommend one that is more cost affordable. I love watching your videos. I have learned so much from you.
So informative! Look forward to these videos every. single. week. xo
Can you Please give a review of korean skin care products based on vitamin c that can help us to choose right vitamin c products

Oh nooo I want to try this but isn’t avaible in italy… do you know a dupe?
This video came right on time. I’m in need of Vitamin C and have been unable to choose one
MAP made my sunspots worse so three days ago I switched to 3OEAA, hope everything works out 🤞🏻
Helpful yessss always!!! I am married to my vitamin c from la roche posay my skin really likes that one! Thx Dr you are adorable ❤️
Thanks for this recommendation. Didn't know they did one so will check out in our local pharmacy during the week. Very reasonable price here in Europe. Hugs from Ireland everyone. Take care.
did you notice any britening? I used THD and didn't notice anything in my skin...
Yes I love vitamin c recommendations and options to have. Thank you for coming back to further expand. 💕
I love the Kate Ryan Vitamin C Daytime Repair Serum (THD) and priced well. Loaded with additional great ingredients.
I thought it was expensive since it is only 1/2 oz.
And I can attest - the Summer Fridays version is heavenly!
nah it make ur skin burn mainly because u r a girl! it works wonder for me.
Thankyou for introducing the product of TDH 💕💕💕
For oily skin nerds: do you still feel SAP is the best choice for vitamin C? Any updated SAP products you like?
An oily skin means lack of zinc in the diet...
What is SAP line? Thanks!
@@Sufferingsassafrass Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate
@@johnguzmandiaz thank you! 😅
I personally love love Mad Hippie’s vita C with SAP. I’ve tried so many others for months at a time and nothing showed me results like Mad Hippie. Ulta sometimes has deals in the US and CA, but worth it at full price.
Thought I understood and knew Vit C 🥴. I love your explanations and similes. Thank you
I can't wait for your line! But I have to have time to finish all of my skincare I've accumulated before, and save my pennies so I can get yours XD. I'm going to assume it'll cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm hoping it will be good
Love love love 🤩the way you explain everything🤩
Thanks for this! And how about 2-O Ethyl Ascorbate?
I would LOVE if you could do a review of Glowbiotics. Especially their Vitamin C serum 💖
Your all videos are so aesthetic i am just love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your informative videos! Can you tell us what the primary research says about layering vitamin C (especially the active form) with BHAs and AHAs? The internet is divided on this matter - some say mixing direct acids with ascorbic acid messes up the pH that it needs to be effective, others says they are actually synergistic.
I think I'm more confused, but I still find it helpful
Agree
Which of these Vitamin C’s would you recommend for acne prone, wrinkled, combination skin?
Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate is good for acne prone skin, she mentions that in her previous vitamin c video:)
@@Lucy-pd3xy does she mention what product to find that in?
@@teresasaxena6452 yes, she mentions three in the video from a year ago, I would search that on youtube, I can’t remember their names. And then there’s also one that she didn’t mention in that video, Mad Hippie’s vitamin C serum:)
@@teresasaxena6452 you’re welcome, good luck!:)
Hi, Dr. Could you please make a video with dupes of these products. The ones you showed are really expensive. Thanks
Your channel is so informative. Thank you Sheerene 🙏🏻
Informative and perfect video!
But I can’t stop thinking about the colourful hot pink, orange and green products behind you all the time😳 What are theyyyy, I wanna knooowww
I am in Canada and love the Sunday Riley serum. The bottle is opaque, the color is white and has no scent. Surprised to see yours not fully opaque with some color
Thanks Dr I use the antioxydant serum from paula's choice. It has thd amongst a sea of other antioxydants. Love it!
I've been waiting for this!! Yay! Thank you!
I was wondering though what do you think about Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate? is it the same as THD?
No THA is not same as THD, but they are similar. Google both names.
Dr. Idriss please make a video on neck filler for tech neck or how to treat it, I'm 18 and I have 2 lines that are already pretty bad. Everyone says your neck shows age first and I already have pigmentation just from my genes. I'd love to see a term in person when I can afford it but there's barely any non sponsored information.
Thank you for taking the time to post such informative videos for us.
What about Ole Henriksen`s Truth products?
Truth Banana Bright Glow Serum
Truth Serum
Truth C-Rush Brightening Gel.
Do you have any experience with them?
I don`t know if they have the right amount/right kind of C-vitamin in them
I have also reported it
If you have IBS, you probably have gluten sensitivity. I didn't believe I ever did, until 23andme told me. I went gluten free. I'm feeling better.
I love your tutorials!💕💕
Please tell us more about those beautiful bracelets!!
hello, excited to try your products! my question for you is can I use vitamin c products along with retinol? love your videos, my skin looks so much better since I have been following you!
The Sunday Riley also does NOT have hyaluronic acid which is what I was looking for. It's hard to find a Vitamin C serum without it.
"Certain brands that may or may not have been called Drunk Something..."
Gurllll, i love you 😍 ❤ 🤣
This was really good but please some lower costs options. Does Inky list or ordinary have anything similar?
im using Laneige Radian C moisturizer. So far it is pretty good but because of my combi skin, i don't use it daily and only use it in the morning
Hi Doc, I’d love to know your thoughts on finger lime extract and Kakadu plum extract as “vitamin C ingredients” in skincare produces. They seem to be popping up a bit in Australian skincare e.g. Go-to much brighter skin and Biologi products. Love watching your videos and have been enjoying trying out lots of your recommendations.
I'm acne prone so I use THD in my AM moisturizer! Excited to watch and learn.
How did you get on with it? THD broke me out badly
@@lollybabe08 Totally fine! Which product were you using?
@@Roll587 That’s interesting I have tried TO, Sunday Riley and there was a third one can’t remember. I also bought pure THD as active from lotioncradter and added to squalane at 7%. All broke me out. I don’t break out with squalane. Glad it worked for you.
What product are you using cintaining THD?
Can you recommend an all-in-1 serum for those who want to pack lightly this summer ?
I love THDA, I'm using Kri Skincare Vitamin C + Bakuchiol. I love it
