If you notice his eyes turn red as well, it may be whatever element he uses his eyes change to that color.

Omori (the author) confirmed this on Twitter. He said Will's eyes change color depending on the element.
you are right But the anime missed a key point, the shining eyes. In recent manga cap, thats a important moment
Not just the colour changes. You can actually guess with this hint that its not just the sword but he actually use the elements attribute himself
In the anime he hints it “my eyesight became red”.
Will really sliced and diced that Evil Duke into half of who he was. The spell Sion cast was a low-level fire spell. Imagine how busted Will could get if he absorbed stronger spells from the likes of the Magia Vender.

Episode 1 of Wistoria literally have movie level animation so it's unfair to compare it with other TV-shows, that episode alone looked better that most of AoT, JJK and Winland Saga altogether, lol.

It's insane how durable Will is; the blood on his face when Sion punched him wasn't a tiny bit his, nor did he take any damage from those hits. Sion ripped his own knuckles open punching Will. 😆 At one part of the fight the Duke even punched him while he was midiar and he just kept fighting like it didn't even faze him.
Superhuman power is a helluva thing.

so, I'm thinking that it's a combination of whatever that crystal was as well as Will's strength. like you have to be physically strong enough to not only damage a monster with a sword but also strong enough to wield a magically imbued sword. Maybe the magic adds a physical weight or creates strain on the body. maybe that crazy physical strength was given to Will magically when he was born or conceived?

Loved this episode but anyone else feel that the animation quality dropped noticeably?
Not too bad of a drop but definetly a change from ep 1 and 2 however it’s still looked fucking great this whole time, with how popular it’s been they may get a bigger budget for season 2.
From episode 1 you mean? Of course it's dropped but not because animation became bad -- the first episode just been so incredibly animated that it looks like a movie. Even studio like MAPPA and Wit can't provide that quality level for the entire season of 12 episodes, it's some Ufotable level at least. And studio behind Wistoria is definetily not even near that level. But even so they managed to deliver solid animation in every episode -- this show and Elusive Samurai is best animated series of the season after all. So yeah, answering you question -- animation quality clearly dropped but still remains far above average.
If only Tower of God adaptation could look at least half as good as this show...
