I don’t know how I keep finding these CRAZY deals on Honda Rebels, but I’m not mad at it!
So…what’re your thoughts on this wrecked Rebel 500? Should I buy it and do my first motorcycle rebuild series, fixing the bike from the ground up? Or is it better to walk away from this Rebel altogether? What would YOU pay for this bike to make it worth it?

It's really easy to check if the forks are bend, simply start riding and let go of the handlebar, if its keeps going straight its good, if you go left or right your fork needs to be replaced

Don't be scared. You're missing so much. Riding anything is better than nothing. Start with a Honda Monkey or Trail 125 or... The list goes on and on. It doesn't have to be highway capable if you live in the city especially if it's your first bike. I'd be willing to help you if you were local to me in AZ too. Heck is even talk with you on the phone. I started riding when I was 13 and just turned 60. I've raced bikes and sold bikes and have owned a lot of bikes. If I can help you I will. 👍

Guarantee the bars are bent and need replaced. The bushings for the bars also need replaced. If you can't tell the fork tubes are bent you take them off and put a framing square or level on them to check. I bought and fixed up a 2010 fat bob. I had alot of fun and learned alot. I rebuilt the forks myself w new seals gaskets o-rings etc. I also fixed everything else myself as well. New bars and bushings etc.

I had this exact bike (2021 Rebel 500 ABS SE) and I dropped it in a parking lot causing similar damage to this except the tank wasn’t quite this dented. You’re exactly right about the handlebars. Loosening those two nuts will allow you to straighten the handlebars. I traded my bike in this spring after straightening the handlebars myself but with the damage to the tank, muffler, etc still there. A dealership gave me $4700 for it.

I would pay 4.5 for it to be honest. Or even would go to 5k.
I have the same bike, and had a very similar thing happened to me.
here's the story Burch... I think the handle bars are not so croocked, but it's they got missaligned because of the hit it's a matter of realigning the raisers... the tank is repairable, so need to buy a new one, even that deep a good body shop can work the bends out a lot, and then just a matter of paste to get it to look brand new.
I know all this because I kinda had a similar accident at 0 mph... and the tank bent a bit hitting the controls, my brake got bent (I was able to get it in position by kicking it a bit).
Most of the damage is just a body job, so I would go about 5k on that as it is.

  • @Nurlouie

Buy it! The 500 SE with the stitched seat and headlight cowl is nice. It looks miles and above better than the stock 500. As for price? $4000 seems fair to you and the guy selling it, especially if it’s only cosmetic damages

I plan on getting my first bike this year and would be estatic if I found a potential deal like this and id probably not want to spend moe than 3.2 k on given the needed repairs. Outside of a couple of things like the handle bars and brakes, it seems like its mostly cosmetic issues that could be fixed over time if kept, or done quickly to resell.

Full bet, you get it for around under 4k I think it's a solid deal. From a mechanics point of view, if you are riding fine and don't notice any suspension issues and they are straight like you saw, 9 times out of 10, those forks should be fine. I'd say go for it if you're comfortable doing so.

Took about 35 minutes to do super easy and changed out the 10w oil for 15w and that was a huge improvement with riding and doing wheelies. but it looks like you just need the rubber bushings. ive gotten in 3 crashes and had to replace my forks 2 times and the riser bushings. easy and cheap. Wouldnt pay more then $3500 for it.

I say raffle that sucker off. Mostly because I'm a greedy little bastard and I want it! :P Or hang on to it for when Nina feels comfortable enough to move up from the 300. Seriously though, that's a slick looking bike, and as long as it's functional, minor cosmetic issues sort of make it more appealing to actually ride it.
My first (and thus far only) bike is a 2003 883 that sat for years in storage. It looks pretty nice in photos, but it has some rust spots from sitting so long. And scrapes from me dropping the poor thing. But the fact that it wasn't pristine when I got it made me less concerned about subsequent scrapes. It's well past the point of being a museum piece, so now it's just meant to be RIDDEN. Seems like this specific Rebel is in a similar state, despite being only one freakin' year old!
I'm so fortunate to have my Sporty. No question there. But damn do I want a second, more efficient, and less shaky ride! :D

Need to find out if he reported the wreck when he wrecked it. If he did then when you fix it, it will be a rebuilt title. The brake issue is more than likely the fact that the lever is bent and is in a bind. You may have to end up replacing the bolt that holds the handlebar mount as it was more than likely bent in the crash. Also check revzilla for the replacement tank as they are usually cheaper than the honda dealership on the tank. Just make sure that you have the correct part number for the tank as you may end up with a tank of a different color from the bike, a.k.a. like my bike being black with a maroon tank cause of a $200 price difference. Throttle cable will have to be taped or replaced as having it exposed as it is can cause issues with corrosion down the line. All in all I would say I wouldn't go over 3500 for the bike and if you sell it after repairs go for around 5000, or 20% over the cost of bike and parts.

So I was on my way to get a rebel 500, I'm sure you might remember me popping into livestreams and donating for coffees and whatnot. I ended up choosing to move into an apartment over the bike and completely regret my decision, so now I'm going to be saving up AGAIN for the 500. While on a job however, a woman I was doing a garage door bid for had the exact model rebel I wanted right before my eyes and she offered me advice saying I'm too big for it and that I'll get bored. For some reason somethings telling me to still go for it, I'm about 5'11", 175lbs, 31" inseam. I'd figured if the issue lies on not having leg room, to opt for a forward controls kit.

Edit: oh, about leg positioning, that Rebel 250 had mid-controls (also called Standard) and only change was the bike had floorboards instead of pegs. I wasn't uncomfortable. I could turn handlebars all the way without hitting knees, etc. 36" inseam.

Buy the Rebel 500 for $4,000 to $4500. Bike is not totaled. Has seller bought the bike out right or does he owe on it still? This is not a rebuild all you are doing is replacing parts. I totaled a bike years ago. Made one payment on it. The insurance payed off loan. I bought it back ($1100 mc) for $75. Put in $350 and had a new motorcycle to ride for the next 15 years. Good luck. Those little dings and knicks , can and will cost you a paint jobs for someone to re spay and blend it in correctly , may not matter to a lot of us but it does cost money to do it right unless your ready to set up a make shift paint shop and do something you may want to pay some one for , and all the other problems and issues, I wouldn’t do nothing more than 3 grand, thats fair for both , I believe , give or take a couple hundred, at the most after that , I don’t cause you got to take in account that your labor is not free , it’s going to cost you time money and energy putting this project into reality, and you need to eat , let someone else take it nothing over 3200 , if it’s going to cost 800 times 2 = 1,600 plus a possible re-spray and blend idk that’ll put you at 4,800 plus all your time effort , going too cost more money 💰 than you first thought , no one is going to pay 6,800 ever again for something used and crashed at 25 even if it had nicer parts on it than stock

If it retails at $6800 I wouldn't go more than $3800, just incase there's more problems once you tear into it. Never be optimistic buying a dropped bike!! It might be the rubber mounts, it might be the yoke/headstock/forks. The back brake might be the lever but it might be the hydraulic cylinder, or the linkage, or both! It could be the brake line is pinched or the caliper piston is cocked and stuck.
I see a lot of overpriced broken bikes/cars these days saying "might be an easy fix if you know what you're doing." Yeah, but it might not, and YOU'RE going to pay for your mistake, not I.
