I have had the 2023 honda rebel 1100 manual for 2 months, brand new. No wobble until i hit 1000 miles and went over 93 mph. Took it to the dealership, they replaced the front dunlop tire. They said it had a hump in it. Ok.The warranty provided a new dunlop front tire. Took it for a test drive, when i hit 90 mph, the wobble was worse. I found your video. Took a risk on the Metzler cruistecs, they just installed it today. Took it up to 100 mph 5 times. NO WOBBLE. I said all that to say...thankyou bro. Metzler needs to cut you a check. Tires are always a good place to start. Hey Burch! Hope the issue is forever fixed. Same thing happened to my buddy who has a DCT 2023 version. We first thought it could be the fairing and what not since thats the only difference between his bike and mine ('21 DCT). But no it kept happening even without the fairing. Hello, friend. You then recommend putting on both the front and rear Metzeler Cruisetecs. Sorry for asking, but not being a native speaker I have some difficulty ... Do any Metzeler Cruisetecs fit, or are there particular models?
My brand new 2024 rebel 1100 dct has the wobble. It seems to be a little bit better after putting on a windscreen but will still look into it more and see about checking the tire balance and getting new tires.
I have been preaching for years that the stock Dunlop D404 found on a lot of bikes as stock absolutely suck. They are the most numb feeling tire I've ever rode on in terms of feedback. They aren't good in the rain. And they feel squirrelly if you try to chuck it in the corners. Should call them dunFLOPs. Most of the good reviews are from people that have never put a different tire on and never tried actual good performing tires. Michelin, pirelli, metzler are all upgrades. I recommend Michelin commander 2 for cruisers. And the road 6 for sport bikes. They feel glued to the road, even in the rain
Makes sense. I was thinking it was going to be suspension. But I mean... tires are still somewhat part of the whole suspension system. So I guess if the stock ones were a bit softer it makes sense. I'm guessing at speed when the tire gets bumped and then unloaded any instability (like bumps on the road, or those snacking cracks) would be maximised and leading to the wobble, just like in regular soft front suspension issues. Legit of you to acknowledge that it wasn't fully gone. I had seen some forums quoting you about the wobble, and am glad you went a bit more into details here.
You’re exactly right! And yea I figured I had to expand on this more since I KEPT seeing people referencing that old video as the “end all be all” solution. How good is the suspension? Does it bottom out and hammer your spine when you hit a pot hole? If it does is there an aftermarket shock available that will fix the problem?
Hey Burch, listen dude, no judgement here, it's just my opinion being a much older guy and going all the way back to my first motorcycle rides in 1978, it was actually a Moped but I was only 11 and boy I was totally addicted and all through these years I've had quite a few bikes but almost always Naked Roadsters/Street Bikes or Cruisers and I cannot fathom the idea of putting a cell anywhere on my bike ... In fact I miss the days when Cruisers didn't even have the time or a gas gauge, I don't wear a watch (Wild Hogs) ... it's true but I admit that if you get in a jam it's really handy to have a cell in your pocket. I just bought the Rebel 1100 and am picking it up from the dealer in 3 days but I've seen so many vids of all kinds of complaints on the 1100 as opposed to the Rebel 500 which I had for a very short time but it didn't disappoint me it was just too slow in acceleration. What's your take, did I choose poorly? Now I'm worried.
Maybe its a quality and balance issue and I am lucky... mines never wobbled. I have done the 100mph max a lot, but I haven't removed to go over it. Replacing my tires soon, and I'll make sure to NOT get these same tires... I won't get lucky twice.
I have a speed wobble in my 2007 Goldwing, my friend has a speed wobble in his new 21 Goldwing. To supposedly fix my warble I have to change the castle bearing on the tree. To change the bearing is a pain and to pay someone else to do is an arm and a leg. Might as well rebuild the forks while at it at that point. I think it’s a Honda thing. But I don’t know. But I’m here thinking about switching my Goldwing to a Rebel 1100
Could it be Honda tested this bike at high speed and they found out the tires were the problem? They probably had a tire contract with the OEM and it would have cost a fortune to replace all the tires they committed to. Much cheaper to put in a Rev Limiter and call it a day and a buck saved. Plus the benefit of saying we don't want our buyers to go faster than 99MPH which should let them get around a 18 wheeler safely. Safety for our customers is our MAIN CONCERN. YEAH RIGHT
Where did you get that headlight fairing on that 1100? I want one. EDIT: I actually found that fairing, its the GAUNTLET FAIRING FOR 2021 - 2023 HONDA REBEL 1100 from Memphis Shades. But now i need to know if a fairing for the 1100 will fit on the Rebel 500. If anyone knows, please let me know.
OMG...as I mentioned, I purchased mine less than a month ago. Well, I took it on a lil distance ride about an hour or so and on this 2-lane highway, I've had to pass a few trucks and cars in the oncoming lane. In sport mode when I get on it that thing started doing the Humpty Dance on me which forced me to immediately get OFF the throttle causing significant danger ☠️💀 to life, with oncoming traffic approaching and me not passing fast enough since I'm forced to slow down. At first I thought it was something I did, so I moved my phone mount as well. Told the dealership about it and they told me to add stabilizers to the bike, (which I didn't). Tried passing on these two-lane highway roads other times and boom, same Humpty Dance wobble. This scared me so bad that one time I audibly said in my helmet "ooh LaWD, please not like this..., I'll remove my OMWTFYB license frame!! 😳😫🤥!! I'm so happy to know that this manufacture defect is the problem. Honestly, due to the safety risks this poses to riders and other motorists, Honda, Dunlop or someone should make this a manufacture recall and THEY should fund these tires that resolve the issue. You have no idea how thankful I am, that I'm learning it's not just me having this issue that really gave me HUGE concerns about riding and keeping this new bike. I also thought it was because of the stock hard saddle bags or the batwing fairing with the low windshield, but again, it's the tires!!?? WOW-Shamwow-, Great Scott! So with your platform and following, I believe you have the juice to bring this safety issue to Honda because obviously this is not an isolated problem. 🤷🏼👍🏼. Thank you 🙏🏼🤝
I've always had good luck with both Metzelers and Pirellis of course Pirellis have the hardest side wall and is a pain to break the bead so I run Metzelers on my HD's
Nice video as always. Is this windscreen color "black" or "smoked"? Just curious cause I'm looking at your link on Amazon and it appears solid black (non see through). Thanks....
Hey Burch, Was wondering what fairing you have on, I checked the link in the description but that is definitely not the one in the video, and I checked Honda's website and it isn't theirs either?
All tires have a speed rating. Probably honda went with a all around tire that would just qualify for what the bikes speed was capped for. Every time the bike is being enhanced something else left stock will surely be overwhelmed.
Hey Burch, is that the same front cowling as the bagger/touring version of this bike? I’m getting my bagger next month, I love that windscreen. If it is, what’s the link to your windscreen?
my first bike was a honda shadow spirit 750. i got rid of it real quick due to that issue. that and that i couldn't get over 85 mph with it and truck were passing me on the highway, causing more wobble from the wind drag. i'm thinking about the rebel 1100 as my next bike.
@@LifeOfBurch Originally I wasn't sold on the styling of them but its growing on me. And it's kinda ironic that you sold your VFR to get it because my last bike, which I sold in August was an 06 VFR800. I'm definitely going to be keeping up with your channel!

@@fourtenlife1731 Tell us what you got! I love my Rebel 500 too, and it came second hand with Metzelers, and I have had no problems so far on the rare occasions of 160km+.
No, it's not the tires either. It's because the rebel is a tubular frame cruiser style bike. End of story. Tubular frames simply have a lot of flex, and that's the underlying cause of the wobblieness at higher speeds. _All_ tubular frame bikes have this "characteristic" - just give any of them a quick jab on one of the handlebars at speed, and you'll see the PIO (Pilot Induced Oscillation). That's why sport bikes have the much stiffer monocoque frames - to reduce (but not entirely eliminate) this flexing at high speeds. There's nothing wrong with the bike, since bikes have been made with tubes since the beginning of time. But they are not designed to go that fast. So the only "right" way to "fix" this shimmy is to simply not go so fast on it that it becomes unstable. There's really no other safe option. You can find the speed where this oscillation enters "negative stability" (stays the same or increases in magnitude) experimentally by testing the amount of it at various speeds. When you find the speed where it just begins to lose "positive stability" (shimmy shows no tendency to remain at the same amplitude or increase), that's your new "Vne" (Velocity Never Exceed) for your bike for the remainder of your two lives. Keep it at or below that speed for your own safety. Sorry to be a bubble-burster on this. Just don't go 100+ on the bike is really the only safe answer....
I've extensively studied this post and after much consideration I believe it is 100% true. This is based on the undeniable fact that this is by far the post with the most words. Some of these words even required googling. In case you doubt me, rest assured that I am a bachelor of science.

love the windscreen you have - tried to follow the link in the description to buy it and it takes me to a different one though :( got a link to the real one?
The stock tires don’t have a super high speed rating, but the wobble started well before approaching the speed rating. The speed rating is higher than the 100mph limit put on the bike from the factory.
Wow ok. Well they may just be bad tires but I don't know what else it could've been. Like i said at least you didn't eat pavement. Keep the videos coming brother.
Back to the point in my comment. If it were that simple why didn't Honda, with some of the best engineering talent in the automotive/motorcycle world, would figure it out at the factory before they shipped it.

When I replace my front tire with another Dunlop American elite I'll let you know if those tires have the same issue.
Yea definitely keep me posted on that! Definitely be interesting to see 🤔
I just pick up my Rebel 1100T last week from Salisbury, MD, I live in DC area see you around.
That’s crazy … I had speed wobble on my VTX 1300, I changed the tires from dunlop to michelin and NO more wobble.
I do want a Rebel 1100 dct, and I am learning about all the necessary upgrades needed like the seat
Can’t wait to get my rebel 1100. Just waiting for the dealership to get it in. Only Manual I found and it’s in the Bordeaux red 😎
🤷🏼👍🏼. Thank you 🙏🏼🤝
I watched Gus’ video before seeing yours so I knew it was the tires :) great vid man!
Ha! I knew it wasn't the phone mount! Yes, the new tires make a world of difference.
It's possible the stock tires were trying to climb a bit, but I'd still think it's the aerodynamics of the bike that's the main factor 🤔
my first bike was a honda shadow spirit 750. i got rid of it real quick due to that issue. that and that i couldn't get over 85 mph with it and truck were passing me on the highway, causing more wobble from the wind drag. i'm thinking about the rebel 1100 as my next bike.
I wonder if they used balance beads in the Dunlops
I have been binging your rebel 1100 vids for like the past 2 days! Keep them coming!
Ayyy glad you’ve been digging the content man!! I have TONS more Rebel 1100 videos to come this season! 😎🤘🏻
@@LifeOfBurch Originally I wasn't sold on the styling of them but its growing on me. And it's kinda ironic that you sold your VFR to get it because my last bike, which I sold in August was an 06 VFR800. I'm definitely going to be keeping up with your channel!
@@hauntingzero damn, great minds think alike! If you liked the VFR I think you’ll love the Rebel 1100. I feel like personally one of the things I loved the most about my VFR was the fact it was a “do anything and have fun in the process” bike. It could do twisties, touring, hopping cafe to cafe, ANYTHING you threw at it. And the Rebel 1100 is the same way. They’re both jack of all trade bikes, just with different styling 🤘🏻
My son has the Metzler cruise tec on his idian scout rogue. I've rode his bike several times and I think there the best tire out there. They handle turns really well and feel grippy which I like. I'll be getting then put on my rebel 1100 shortly.
G'day mate I've done 40000 Ks on my Rebel now and I totally agree with you it was the tires
Thank you so much for keeping me informed! I have a 2021 Rebel 1100 DCT that is going to need new tires in a few months. I’m going to follow your advice.
Happy to help! Gus has 12k miles on his Cruisetecs already and they still have TONS of life left! You won’t be disappointed.
I was going to say new tires because I lost the speed wobble on my 500 with new tires too!
Maannn where were you with this info months ago?! 😂😂😂
@@LifeOfBurch I changed my tires before the start of this season and then realized and subsequently forgot that my bike doesn't feel like it's gonna kill me when I go fast 🤣 because the wobble stopped
@@fourtenlife1731 Tell us what you got! I love my Rebel 500 too, and it came second hand with Metzelers, and I have had no problems so far on the rare occasions of 160km+.
Can you tell me where you got your fairing? It does not seem to be the one you listed here under "windscreen".
Awesome video. Unfortunately, for me, Honda has not yet brought the Rebel to Brazil. 😂😂
Dobrý den, prosím od jakého výrobce máte opěrku záda na zadní straně sedačky?! Předem děkuji 😊
Hows it man!
Question? Where’d you get that windscreen?
did you use the bias belted or radial metezler cruise tech
I had the exact same issue on a 2018 Goldwing. It was the Dunlop tires. I’ll never purchase that brand again.
Hey. I have a rebel 500 and get a speed wobble above 90mph on freeway bends? Any suggestions?
So which tires are the best for the Rebel 1100? Metzler (which ones exactly?) or Michelin Road 6?
Interesting bro. Very interesting
Front tires get "cupped" usually by being improperly inflated. Cupped front tires will wobble like hell..
thx for the video, i got those tires wrote down from my buddy at "On the Rebel 11", I'm planning to buy those whenever mines are due for a change :) thx and seeya
These tires are DEFINITELY the way to go whenever you’re due for new ones! They seriously transform the bike! 🙌🏻
Fantastic! I'm up to 12k on mine and i still love them! 👌
Sheeesh still racking those miles up! And I’m sure they still look damn near brand new at 12k miles too! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I wonder if this is still a thing with the 23 1100? My scl500 reads over 95. Ive hit 97 a few times.
I’m in Montana. I feel like with the wind here you will get a bit of a wobble going that fast
love the windscreen you have - tried to follow the link in the description to buy it and it takes me to a different one though :( got a link to the real one?
This
The stock tires may not be rated for that speed. Either way at least you didn't eat pavement before you figured it out.
My CB500X would shake its head on deceleration. Changing the tyres cured it. It had Dunlops and now has Avons.
yes, new tires did the trick for me as well
Glad to hear it! Sounds like they’ve been the culprit for a bunch of people!
Is there a way to remove the top speed and reverse limiter yet? Or fix the speed wobbles?
This bike with this fairing looks insane cool!
The tire tread is backwards on the stock tires. They should be recalled.
Back to the point in my comment. If it were that simple why didn't Honda, with some of the best engineering talent in the automotive/motorcycle world, would figure it out at the factory before they shipped it.
My wife has a Honda Rebel and the original mounted tire is Dunlop Radial and the wobble is terrible. What “Brand and Type” of tire will I put to remove the terrible wobble? Thank you!
Metzeler Cruisetec is the way to go!
I balanced my new tires on my 500 with beads instead of clip on weights and the ride became noticeably better.
Dunlop's looking sus right meow.
thinking about getting my first bike not sure which way to go?
Honda should take note and get better stock tires for this bike.
I think we all want the Cruise Techs. On the Rebel 11 is awesome.
What a nice stranger to help you out like that 👀
did you get the radial or bias belted tire for the front?
The new Rebels olso have the same problem with rabble? What year is yours?
Do bias vs radial ply matter? Honda doesn't seem to specify. More importantly what works better with the cruisetecs
How is it that Honda has not addressed this issue? This sounds like a 1973 Harley issue, not a 2024 Honda issue.
Hello there. New Rebel owner here. I have a 2023 1100 DCT. Looking for advice on shocks. Any resources anyone knows to dial them in? I weigh 245 lbs.
Burch I hate high speed wobbles especially the death wobbles I've experience 😤😑
Yea speed wobbles are nooo bueno!! 🤬
Has Honda changed the tires in the newer models?
Same Dunlop tires, I've checked yesterday at least in the dealership here in Manila PH
Hey I was wondering if you could help me. I am wanting to learn to ride. I watch your video from about a yr ago on your friends automstic rebel 1100 bike. I do like the look and such, I was just wondering if you could point me to a cheaper on that would be good for a beginner. I just don't have the knowledge you do so I wanted a second opinion so I don't get something to big because I heard it's better to start small. If you could help that would be amazing! I enjoyed your video!
Im just a big fan of how this bike has no issues breaking160km and is still a cruiser...glad i didnt get a harley
Mine doesn''t do it, but I'm also like 250. Then again I avoid the highway like the plague if I can.
Yo! Please tell me where you got your windscreen. Amazon aint it lol
HAPPY SUNDAY ITS FINALLY REBEL 1100 CONTENT DAY
LET’S GOOO!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I think you need a tool role on the front forks, or maybe a hang a bag of spuds over the mud guard.
Where did you get the fairing and sissy bar?
Guess some have High Speed Wobble and Others don't.. I have never experienced one on mine and 70% of my Riding is Highway or Interstate sometimes at a steady 80- 85 MPH and passing sometimes have hit the Speed Limiter doing so ..
Vmax had that issue ,it definitely sucks but if the forms for the rebel are as good as the vmax forms it'll be fixed.
Thanks for the info. And thanks to the stranger. We'll all try to help you keep his name a secret.
