- Welcome to Part 1 of the Wrecked Rebel Rebuild Series! I'm SO excited to rebuild this crashed 2021 Honda Rebel 500 SE back to (better than) its former glory!!
In Part 1, I go over the Rebel 500 to assess all of its damage, start working on it a bit (only to find more issues), get a list of replacement parts together, and tell you guys how YOU can help decide the fate of this bike!

Man how long did you have to wait to get one? I cannot get a hold of one for 150 miles around me.
@@derrickellerbrock3592 I put a deposit down last December and I just picked it up last Tuesday. The dealer said they had people offering $2k over sticker to buy it out from under me, so I took a day off work to go get it. You may need to expand your search area by a lot and perhaps pay to have the bike shipped to you. I’m glad I waited instead of buying something else because this engine paired with the DCT is a ton of fun.
Second this... bought the same bike and just hit 160miles.. 7 hour ride yesterday and had such a blast..

Good luck with the repairs! Good price to get a project bike. I'm still slowly working on my 74 Honda CB550. I have all the tools for it, but need to organize my Garage before getting to far into it.
My experience with handle bars that look bent it was top triple tree twerked left or right of lower fork supports. Loosen large nut center of triple tree and top fork clamps . Secure front wheel so won't move. Turn handle bars in direction to straighten, quick hard turn works best. When straight tighten top fork clamps and center nut. Good luck on repair. Good find

When mine was wrecked I replaced my mirrors with the Doubletake mirrors so if it gets dropped again I won't have to replace them since they move out of the way. My tank is also dented but I have a bag that covers where it is. I replaced the foot brake, foot peg, and rear brake lever with OEM parts from Partzilla.
Damn sounds like our bikes got pretty much the same damage! I’ll have to check out those mirrors, I’ve never heard of them before.
@@LifeOfBurch they are kinda ugly tbh lol but they allow for more visibility. People usually put them on off-road bikes since they are easy to remove since they are mounted on a RAM ball.

Good price I think. I'd replace the front brake lever for the sake of safety, especially on a giveaway bike. Might be a good opportunity for aftermarket review on one.

In the last vid I commented I wouldn't go more than $3800, you did really well getting it for $3000! There's plenty of headroom there if you were going to flip it.
Since it's going to be prize and you've got that headroom, I wouldn't go OEM on anything. T-risers, Renthal straight bars, bar end mirrors, a nice footpeg set, replace headlight cowl with taller one to match the raised bars and deflect more wind at highway speeds. Maybe even a front set for the Hardly-Fakerson look 😁
Then raffle it to get the money back you've spent and invest that into another bike for another video series 😁 I think more people will enter a raffle for a one-off custom than a rebuilt factory bike, just my very humble opinion, of course 👍

lmao such a perfect video for the day after i dropped my 500 and did almost exactly the same kind of damage to my own Rebel. fuckin 21k miles without any incident and i drop it 2 times in 2 days, i think the embarrassment is worse than the actual damage lol

Taller bars would be more comfortable, texture paint will cover scratches. Air compressor can blow out most of the dent in the tank. A little Bondo and a cheap DA sander then get a wrap for the tank.

No need to replace the parts with just scratches. Just seal them to prevent rust. 👍🏽 Stock bars. $3k is a good deal.

Bought my 94 fatboy for 3,000 in 2020. 3,000 doesn't get you far with the price of new bikes and with the vehicle market since covid so probably a great price

$3k was a steal ngl, especially considering the super low milliage it has and that the repairs arent that expensive to fix.
Should swap the damaged foot peg and rear brake lever for a set of forward controls. Tarzon makes some nice ones. Also do drag bars. If you gotta replace it no sense going oem.

Drag bars could be rad, but I’m just not a fan of forward controls personally 🤷🏼♂️ maybe that could be one of the things Patreon votes on though… 🤔

Congrats on the bike man been loving the channel, really can't wait to get a rebel 500 or 1100! Looking for advice, I'm 5'8 my wife is 4'11 do you feel the height difference would make it hard for both of us to take turns riding the same bike?
I don't think height difference is a problem on any bike, I'm 6ft3, gf is 5ft4, we don't have problems

Guys, on my rebel 500, I added brake fluid on the rear reservoir but cannot bolt it back in place. It seems the metal grip to the bolt is broken. Any remedies ?
I would say go with a straight bar instead of a curved bar. can make a little bit of a cafe racer out of the 500
Do a scrambler. Tall shocks and high pipe

It’s so funny because my 2022 Rebel 300 actually just had its engine blow. $2,000 for the rebuild and labor at my dealership. It’s still at the dealer.
I mean base Rebel 500 is like 6k. You got the pimped out edition so 7K off the lot? So far some scuff and a new bar and a rear break lever would be a simple fix if its not as bad as trying to get OEM stuff for the 1100. I'm guessing all together you'll be at 3.5-4k depending how you swing it with exhausts and such so yeah its a great deal. Besides if it goes well this is good winter content if you wanna do rebuilds when you can't ride.

Probably the switch unit is busted as it is rotated and that means the pin that prevents it from rotating is broken.
I think it would be funny if you put a "life of burch" sticker on the gas tank dent before you replace it. very clear and obvoues promo and you can lean into the dent for a minute 😅🤣😂
I have a stock exhaust from my 2020 rebel that was written off. You could have it for free. Only problem is I am in Toronto Canada. May cost more to ship than for you to buy one.

$3,000 for a just about brand new bike with original worth almost $7,000 isn't bad at all. With repairs you might be pushing $4,000.

Love the bikes but working on these bikes is horrendous. The hardware is so cheap and easy to strip and tank scratches even looking at it.
