    DCT is the future of motorcycles. There are always holdovers just like cars and trucks, but once you realize how much better it is, you will never look back at manuals. DCTs let you just focus on having fun and the ride and offer a true cruise control.

      I have a CTX700 DCT and love the auto shifting. Problem is it only has about 50HP..... which really is lacking after getting off my K1600GTL. This Rebel looks like the perfect replacement.
      What they really need in a fairing is a frame mounted one (what my CTX700 came with).

  • @captainjim605
    @captainjim605 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    My current bike is a CTX with the dual clutch transmission - that DCT rocks! I've owned a lot of bikes over the years (9 Harleys, 4 Goldwings, a couple BMWs, a Triumph Bonneville, and others... I used to think the riding experience wouldn't be the same without pulling in a clutch lever and clicking up or down a gear... yeah, it is better with the DCT. I haven't ridden the Rebel 1100T, but doing a "test sit" on the standard 1100, it felt a bit cramped to me. This 1100T certainly has the look going for it!

      I have the DCT version but personally I would probably go back to manual next time. DCT is fantastic for 99% of the riding, but after a year I still find it strange when slow manouvering like parking etc. Also, it is difficult to get used to the fact that it often changes down from second to first when in the middle of a slow 90 degree turn. Something you would never do with a manual bike !

    I've had the forward foot peg kit from T-Rex Racing on my 1100 DCT for a couple of months now and it is AWESOME. It attaches to the standard foot-peg slots and extends the position forward from 1 to 5 inches. I've got mine set for 5 inches forward and it gives you so much more room to move your feet up and now and no longer have knee cramps on long trips at all ! Best mod you can do in my book ! Burch, as they fit onto the standard peg slots, there MAY be a chance that you could also use them to move the passenger pegs forward too. If so then this could be done with no drama whatsover. Check them out mate. Even though I paid a fortune to have them shipped to the UK they are well worth every penny !

    You can setup your standard Rebel like the touring model on your own. I love all bikes and I recently equipped a Harley Dyna with bags and windshield that are nearly identical to the Touring Rebel. For the bags I used Viking Lamellar Vale bags (universal fit) and Memphis Shades Batwing (yes they make one For The Rebel too).
    I had to move my rear foot pegs forward to clear the bags and there are several aftermarket relocation kits that are probably cheaper than the factory brackets. Of course my relocation kit won't fit a Honda but the price was under $100.

    Wow,
    I just realized my 2014 Honda Accord Sport with the CVT and Paddle Shifters and Sport Mode. I can manually downshift at any time in Drive. Sport mode it will delay shifting and will shift almost like an standard transmission. Or you can paddle shift manually while in Sport mode.
    The 1100 DCT reminded me of how my car handles.

    • @AyaWetts
      @AyaWetts ปีที่แล้ว

      except the DCT has actual gears.. The CVT is still a belt and pulley system with a lot of cars (like yours) having pre-programmed points to mimic having gears. It makes it less efficient mimicing gears like that, but they had problems with customers complaining about not having gears or the RPM staying in one place they had to trick them by making it run like a normal automatic because a normal CVT runs so different everyone thought something was wrong with the car, or it didn't feel like a car should... 🙄

    I'm not against this, but if you're making a touring mode you gotta do a little more than what people can do on their own. The same colors makes it feel like an afterthought and I think the frame being flat black is because they had to match the supports for the bags. I kinda prefer SW Motech's bags. T-rex racing has hard bags for the rebel 1100 with a better bar. Honestly still love it though. That batwing looks good for a touring model. The DCT is plenty of fun, and sooooooo much more comfortable and convenient in traffic. If you're munching miles on a straight freeway, you're not shifting much anyways, and it really helps to have a hand free. You can still get a manual Rebel for twisties and burnouts, but DCT just makes sense for a touring bike.

      several options to have much better lower straight pipes that can work with saddle bags. I have a Coffman's Thunder on mine, with some large Viking saddle bags (custom made mounting, they don't support the Rebel 1100 normally). I have larger better bags, and a larger fairing on mine making it a lot better for touring than the T model... if I could just somehow replace the stupid chain with a belt.

    Honda is really onto something here with this 1100. I would prefer clamshell bags because when you go on a trip, you may have more bags and if you stack them on top of the rear seat or on a rack, you won't be able to get to anything in the saddle bags if they open from the top. The suspension needs more travel and if it had different springs for different weight riders and adjustments for both compression and rebound dampening, everyone should be able to be happy without buying aftermarket. I'm sure it needs a better, wider, seat with more padding. The suspension fix and seat would raise the seat height a few inches though and there are some tradeoffs in all of that. Some might like it while others might not, but I really think Honda should have a long run of this motorcycle. It's light, fast, and low and even has a touring package. This reminds me of the light tourers of the past, something we lost with all the things people either wanted or thought they wanted. Suddenly they got heavy with bigger motors and all the stuff, and we lost the lightweight tourer of the past.
    Actually though, you can plan your trip to not put anything you are going to need right away in the side bags. They do look waterproof. I think the bags are fine.

    It they offered the 1100T in manual with belt or shaft drive, I'd own one by the end of the month to replace my '03 Road King which has just become too much to manhandle around town at my age with my medical conditions. I'm looking for a bike for that purpose, but it must be shaft or belt driven (preferably belt), fuel injected, liquid cooled and preferably between 550-600 lbs wet weight (we have frequent high wind in my AO).

It still has the mid pegs and bars that make you lean a bit forward. Just like the normal rebel you will be wanting off of it after 2 hours. Do you call that touring?
    Throw on some forward pegs, a set of 8 inch apes, and give me option of a manual transmission and this thing would be on the list of bikes I would want, but as it sits it's still just an uncomfortable Rebel 1100 with some extra plastic.

The fact that it’s DCT only is a hard pass for me. I ride a ‘21 Harley LRS and I’m adding a second bike sometime this year, and this bike is OUT. Not because I don’t like it or even because it’s DCT. I took the Rebel 500 on a long distance ride but having to clean the chain every 600 miles was a pretty big pain.

      @@howiethehowitzer7398 Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I do like having a chain on the 500 in general. And the maintenance isn't bad when I'm just going for rides around where I live but for longer distance, like the 1100T is going for, it's a pain to have to clean the chain every two days.
      But maybe that's on me, because I'm wanting the 1100T to be something it's not. I feel like the 1100T is a "sporty touring cruiser" and for my needs I just want a touring cruiser. Don't need a ton of power or performance, just something I can get on and go for a while.

    • @mikeb8342

      If you keep your chain lubed, you don't have to clean it every 600 miles while on a road trip (especially staying off dirt roads). It might wear a bit more, but not that big a deal. I have 9200 on my CTX700 DCT and I've had very little wear..... and I maybe have cleaned it 5-6 times since new. I do typically keep it well lubed.
      To be fair, I haven't toured with it.... that's what my K1600GTL is for.
