  • While performing a heating start up on a Lennox RTU. I noticed the control board was not creating a spark. I ordered and picked up a new board, installed it and noticed an entirely different issue. Was the new control board faulty or was it something else I missed?

I hate the defective boards right out of the box. Good video. I like your approach to trouble shooting. Keep up the good work.👍

You are the type of tech that I would love to find in my area. You don't just fix it, you find the reason why it fails to prevent it from reoccurring. I have a Lennox G40UH-48B 090X Merrit series HVaC
    It calls for A field−pro-
vided high−velocity filter. They I stalled an Aprilaire system for the house filtration. They sold me on it as a MERV 13 HEPA. While house filter. I'm starting to wonder if the MERV value is too high for the unit and impeding the airflow and creating too much heat for the control board. I seem to go through control boards quite often and now I'm upset about having them install the heating unit in my attic. I can no longer even change my filters by myself because I can't climb up ladders now. I called in a tech to check the control board because I already knew what the problem was based on the history of this heater. He had the nerve to tell me it would cost me $1000 to replace the board. He wasn't even done selling yet, when I kicked him out if the house. He refused to give me the part number for the board so I can buy one myself and have a handyman install it. But if you can answer my question about the reason why it keeps burning up, I'd be indebted to you for life. I wish I can go up there with my multimeter and jumpers and do what I know how to do troubleshoot basic issues. It makes me so depressed that I cannot and these companies around town are all crooks.

Well at least it happened 5 min afterwards and not across the city during another call. Ive ran into faulty Control boards lately, during different sequences of operation. Seeing more diagnostics with the conclusion of a faulty Control board.. has made my own theory that there're made of the same material of toys you would find in Cereal Box's...anyways great video!

Awesome video Gary . Faulty board and shorted thermostat cable . No unused wire not being used on the old t stat cable? had to run a new T stat cable .

I am not an HVAC tech.. I am an electrician. I have an old furnace Lennox 80MGF2 about 20 years old. The blower won't be running. But Gas is still working. About 3 min - shut down because the blower won't be running. I checked at the control board. It looks burn and black at 120V Rely on high speed (Black), low-speed red, and Brown & yellow - medium speed. I think that the 120 V relay is damage Do you think a control board needs replacing? I used my meter and test on the Limit switch and rollout switch. It looks normal about 0.00 ohm.
