Everyone is rightfully praising Ke, Michelle, and Jamie, but Stephanie Hsu was also excellent. Being able to go from a sadistic and sociopathic supervillain to a scared and vulnerable teenage daughter was no small feat and should absolutely be lauded
Hsu’s theatrical performance was amazing. Can’t imagine anyone else pulling this off
she was absolutely amazing in all her scenes. her range is crazy good.

I know it's early in the year but it should be nominated for everything. I honestly can't think of a single category it doesn't knock out of the park. Acting, Writing, Directing, Effects, Editing. Such a bombastic piece of cinema that is able to still have tons of emotion and heart. That's a credit to everyone that was involved.

I looked Ke up after I watched this movie because he seemed somewhat familiar. I was genuinely shocked to learn he was Short Round from Temple of Doom.
I agree but honestly all of them turned out Oscar worthy performances. Curtis was amazing too. I think this is the best she's ever been.
I couldn't care less about the ceremonial nonsense of the Oscars these days but if every single person involved in this movie isn't nominated in one way or another then it is a crime
I cried when Waymond and Evelyn were discussing their divorce; I cried when Jobu Tupaki started talking about nothing mattering; I cried when Waymond defended Evelyn even though she had stabbed him; I cried when the rocks were discussing human life. This movie is truly something else.
Man, the rock scene solidified this movie as the pinnacle of 2022 films for me. Just..breathtaking, absolutely spectacular writing and production.

I cried when Waymond told Evelyn that he’d be happy with just doing taxes and laundry. The last 40 minutes was an onslaught for the emotions
the divorce scene/Waymond's kindness scene made me CRY. It was so well done and portrayed I just couldn't. I am a child who immegrated with my parents and I know of SO many immigrant families where the parents got divorced (my own almost divorced). There's just so much pressure, stress, and culture shock that puts relationships to the test. I just can't describe the profound way that the actors' and the directors did an amazing job illustrating that tumultuous feeling.
Everyone was amazing, but Ke really knocked it out of the park. His scene asking everyone to stop fighting and be kind was unbelievable. He played 3 characters basically and was totally convincing in each role. Hope to see him in more. He's back!
Yes! And to jump back in the game to an intense diversified role(s) and bring it home; he's definitely got the gift. So long as he stays in touch with his humble side.

I love how supportive Jamie is about Ke. Ke spoke about why he ended up having to work behind the scenes and how nervous he was to be in this movie. And Jamie was so encouraging to make him feel less nervous. Ke is such a kind person and as well as, Jamie and Michelle.
Especially because Jamie is not just a well established actor herself but the child of two of the biggest actors of their time -she is Hollywood nobility, but doesn't let it go to her head, but remains supportive and picks small indies to appear in. I like that.
Jamie Lee Curtis always exuded realness. I legit find it shocking she never has been nominated for an Oscar before this.

I am always amazed how Michelle Yeoh most of the time acts like she's not a FREAKING LEGEND and a badass woman who can kick your ass while showing whatever emotion she wants 'cause she's also a great actress.
And she always seems so humble, so nice to be near to and so grateful to her career. She has never been anything less than amazing on everything I've ever watched her in (and I was REALLY into chinese action movies in the 90s), and I really hope she gets at least a nomination. There's going to need some top-tier Meryl Streep shit later in the year for her to not get the Oscar this year.
And also Ke Huy Quan, shit, his work here is insanely good. I really didn't expect an actor who had never worked for so long delivering a job *this* good and he really deserves at least a nomination.

I went in the cinema last night thinking it’d be just a dumb funny movie but I came out with tears in my eyes. The movie actually helped me make a decision about whether I’d leave my Asian mom and move to the city or not. I hope the other me in the vast multiverse lives a happy and fantastic city life, but for me, I choose to stay with this broken, imperfect universe but at least I stay with my mom. Thank you for such a great movie
We have the exact same story. My mom is a single-mother and she's getting old, I've decided to stay with her, as painful as it can be at times.

Same, I was thinking of not contacting any of my friends anymore and living this secluded aesthetic life that I see online but I saw the movie and I had a movie marathon with my friends, I was so stupid to just think of just dropping people for this "dream life".

Jamie Lee Curtis is so underrated in this movie but the point that I couldn't recognise her in this movie proves that she's a great actress. Throughout the whole movie I was "who's this woman, she looked like she's been in many movies before."
During the first viewing I had the exact same thing happen. It was only until the second when I had someone with me to point out who she was. I was floored by her performance.
Just watched this and same!! My girlfriend mentioned how she thought Jamie did great and soon as she said her name it clicked, was like holy fucking shit!
It took me half the movie to spot her, all these time thinking "Who is this woman? Her voice sound so familiar!"

Jamie making sure people know what happened to Ke and how he wasn't given opportunities after his first 2 big movie roles felt sad because he missed out on so much, but also heart-warming because she obviously cares and wants to highlight that he is a really talented actor but also that Hollywood really needs to give more opportunities to asian actors
Yeah that was really sweet to make sure he told the story. And props to him for never letting his passion really die
We have a small indy theater here in Alaska, and at the first night showing for this, you could hardly pick a single demographic, every kinda person was there, and I don't think anyone truly knew exactly what to expect. Yet as the movie played, we all laughed at the same moments, were silent at the same moments. Everything resonated with everyone there. As everyone stood up to leave, I took a second to wipe away a few tears, got my coat on, and as I turned around, I saw others doing the same thing. This movie just resonated with everyone there, and it was a great shared experience. There was a feeling in the air that was contagious, like you just wanted to tell someone "Go see this, it's worth it". I just remember feeling like "This is why I go to movies" as I was leaving. It was a memorable night.
I very rarely recommend movies to people, especially ones currently in theaters since I don’t go often. But man, this is one of the few movies where I couldn’t not sing it’s praises and recommend it to everyone, any chance I get.

Nah. JLC was never underrated. She almost won the oscar for True Lies. Thats how great she still is. Also Knives Out with James Bond dude.
@@szewei85 growing up, JLC was known as scream queen. Many actors/actresses that start in horror genre are often looked down on. Very few manage to break out of the type-casting box. If I remember correctly Arnold didn't want JLC initially, but James Cameron wrote the role for her. JLC was great in a fish called wanda.

@@szewei85 I love movies and some of my favorite artists aren't what hollywood calls "bankable leading players." Luckily that's been changing and more artists are getting a chance. Interesting fact, in 2021 there was an article about Dwayne the rock johnson accounted for 1/3 of all asian roles. I like the rock, but I'm sure there are a lot of great asian actors that could have been in some of those roles.
@@woolfel That's crazy bc when I see the Rock I don't think "Asian" I think "Pacific Islander," which should be, and honestly are, two very different things. Hollywood needs to stop lumping everything together to check as many boxes as possible while trying to get away with doing the very least they can.
Ke needs to have a second renaissance where he is casted in a bunch of movies. Jamie Lee was right when we were robbed of his acting excellence for decades.

As an Asian kid growing up in the 80’s.. Every Asian kid wanted to be like Ke growing up and I am so glad to see him onscreen again!!! We all will feel like Jamie experiencing his performance after decades!

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" was so fucking bad. The line were so incredibly cliché, the 'humor' was for 12-year old permanently online "random = funny XDDDD" kids, the 'philosophy' was the most drab and overused optimistic nihilism, the ending was one big eye-roll fest ("family and love saves the dayyyy"), the characters were incredibly ugly and uncharismatic, the sci-fi gimmick makes no sense and is inconsistent in its own universe, it is intentionally filled with cringe, the plot is just all filler and the end is very drawn out, the action makes no impact because everything is possible so the audience cannot care (if they think for just a few seconds), etc...

the best filmography out there
I live in Mexico, and we’re usually known for weird, or noisy crowds in these ‘’small’’ movies, small meaning not Star Wars, marvel, fast and furious, etc…
And usually there’s people joking around, they’re not even paying attention to the movie, they’re on their phone, laughing in the quiet moments or stuff…
… it was dead silent throughout the whole rock scene…
And that told me exactly just how attentive everyone was…
How captivating the scene was, even if it was absurd in essence, everything around it, and the theme it touched upon, really resonated with the audience.
And I had never seen that here…
Such a good movie.
Definitely an instant classic.
I hope the rocks get nominated for best supporting actors. I've never been emotional over a pair or rocks going over a cliff. This is a testament of how profound and special this movie was. The rocks made me cry! Rocks!
For me part of the effect of the rocks was the silent captioning. No music, no surplus energy, just stillness. You could feel the shift in the theater, it was a vulnerable moment for the audience. Exrtemely raw and heartbreaking.
I think Dwayne Johnson played the main actor in Black Adam, and I don't think his acting is that effective to get nominated, but kudos that he made you cried man.
I like how all of them are oscar nominees now. Best actress, best supporting actor, best supporting actress (×2), best picture, best director, best original screenplay. It just makes me happy.

Really heartbreaking to hear 14:00. Ke Huy Quan was arguably one of the best parts about the movie, his character imbued the story so much love and heart. An obvious standout performance.
Step Hsu is such a brilliant actress and comedian. Everything she’s on she literally slays. Nora from Queens, Marvelous Ms. Maisel, and now this.
She should have gotten an emmy for Shu Shu
I saw her on Maisel and was instantly mesmerized by her, leading lady chops and charisma for sure, so when I saw her in this movie i knew she would be be at the level of the hype and fellow actresses.
@13:40. Yep Crazy Rich Asians has really opened the door wide open for non-kung fu Asian actors. Even the kung-fu parts of the film are more of a metaphor for the absurd rather than to be taken seriously. So happy to see Ke back in films and should be getting more work thanks to this.
Ke's performance touched me, these past 2 years I feel have hardened me and his performance was a reminder to chose to be vulnerable, sweet and happy. It speaks to the msg of this film as well.

You said exactly how I felt when I watched Ke's performance this weekend. I'm very close to losing my sweet and happy side lately. There's something about Ke that makes me what to hold on.
Core memory: during the rock scene my almost full cinema was dead quiet for that full minute or so…. I mean in a quiet scene in a packed cinema there’s always like the ruffles of popcorn or something, but in that moment I think everyone in that room was fully immersed lost in the moment, you could not even hear a pin drop. Such a good movie, Michelle performance of the year!!
This movie is a modern absurdist masterpiece. It invokes such primal reaction, you feel it in your soul. The writing was visionary, the acting extraordinary, the effects were so complimentary. It’s a classic already

One of the best films I've seen in theaters, and I am so inspired to continue to open all aspects of the creative industries to asian voices! Grateful to find hope in times like these. I’ve never seen a cast that has such obviously great chemistry while being humble and generous about each others’ performances. So good.
Watched this on 420, high as hell and it was the cheapest therapy session I've ever been to. So lovely and conducted with such patients, touches on nihilism, existential philosophy, I am in complete love with this movie. My absolute favorite movie, ever.

Hsu saying her method dealing with stress is to just not register anything in the moment, and then to process it later, is incredible. Unlike all the other "Just Do It" comments out there, she outright says that the stress does NOT go away. Ultimately you need to process what has happened. What a breath of fresh air.

After listening to this interview, it's clear that this was the movie of a lifetime for all four of the actors, AND the directors, and apparently the test of the crew as well. I hope to have that kind of life-defining experience someday.

So is it weird that this movie has literally changed my life? From the performances, to design, to the comedy, to the direction, to the cgi, to the talent. Everything. Literally everything about this movie is insane, beautiful, creative, funny, and wonderful. I haven't stopped thinking about it since I watched this movie for the first time and it truly is just a trip and a half.
I don't say this about a lot of movies. But this one was a masterpiece. It was the same way I felt watching Hamilton on Broadway the first time. Just the realization that you're watching so different so interesting so incredibly well thought out, well executed, and masterful. To me whether you liked it or not, you can never deny its a masterpiece

Quan reminds me of a younger Jackie Chan. I didn' even realized he was that kid from Goonies and Temple of Doom. I keep thinking he must be Jackie Chan's cousin. I saw this movie last nite at the Regal in Stonestown San Francisco. It only has two showtimes, 6:45pm and 10:30pm. In contrast, Disney's Dr Strange had two screens and all the show times in the world. Because it was a Wed nite showing, I assumed I was walking into an empty theater of maybe 10 ppl. To my amazement, at least 50 ppl if not more showed up. Mostly kids in their early 20's and they loved it! I was overjoyed that they get this movie. Everybody was sniffing from all the crying.
Never in my life would I expect to see Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis doing a movie together. I love it!!
It’s refreshing and amazing to see a collective tribe of down to earth, kind, grateful and genuine talents come together. Greatness are bound to happen and it’s not random.
This film was a seismic shift in what I thought I knew about human storytelling. Incredible film and I'm so happy to have been able to see it!
When I went to see this movie I had no idea what I was getting into. Afterwards, I couldn't wait to go see it again. Like I told my son, I want this movie to succeed on two fronts. One, to be successful, the other, have the success lead to more experimental and visually stunning films such as this one.

I just watched this yesterday and oh my gosh I've never seen a movie something like this, I laughed and I cried, it's crazy but it is down to earth storyline that each and every one of us can relate to! Everyone, please go and watch!!
We all know how amazing Jamie, Michelle and Ke are, but mannnnn I was so blown away with Stephanie's acting.
Gosh! Jaime lee Curtis was unrecognizable in this movie. It took me a while to realize it was her. Im a big fan ever since her True Lies film. This is the best and literally the best movie I have seen in decades!
1 year later and everyone in this video is a well deserved academy award nominee.
All the actors were great in this movie but I was especially impressed with Stephanie Hsu 😭

I really hope Michelle wins the Oscar honestly ! That was the best movie in 2022! Just absolutely amazing! I watched it like 3 times. She truly was the best actress for that role !
I really hear Stephanie Hsu to win an Oscar. Her line delivery of “sucked..into….a bagel” is Oscar worthy on its own.
Only Michelle Yeoh can deliver an amazing performance in one of the most demanding roles in recent times and sit quietly allowing everyone else to take the center stage. What an artist, what a wonderful human being.
I wish I could watch this for the first time again. Absolutely phenomenal.

After I got done watching the movie, I walked outside and took 20 minutes to contemplate everything and then walked right back in to watch the movie again. I've never done that before ever.
This movie... Is life-changing! My mom and I were crying, laughing, cringing, and were getting as many numerous feelings as the universes shown in this film. Incredible performances and moving story. My top film of the year!

Jamie is a veteran in Hollywood. But she shows no airs, very thoughtful & was nice to talk about Ke & so encouraging to everyone.
I watched it for Michelle and was blown away by her and the entire cat. Ke's acting was phenomenal. I remember thinking while watching him that he's a seasoned veteran actor with years of experience. Only to be surprised that its his first time again after 20 years.
I did not expect to love this movie THIS much. The 3hr long version needs to be made available YESTERDAY.
Little did they know that each one of them would be nominated for an Oscar. :)
Obviously the entire cast was amazing but I haven't seen enough praise for Stephanie Hsu because holy shit her performance blew me away. Just subtle expression changes she used to show the feeling of apathy really just sinking into a person, felt very raw and real and she was just incredible I can't wait to see what she does next.

The best movie of this century. It’s so beautiful how Stephanie touches Ke’s knee when he is talking about his first day on set. These people clearly formed a lifelong bond.
This film was truly made with love from top to bottom. This group, they make the world a better place. Cried for 10 minutes after the movie ended then called my mother.
I really hope Ke's return to acting is permanent.
