Akwafina had to drop out of the production of filming, where she was to play Evelyn’s daughter, because of scheduling conflicts with this film & her role in SHANG CHI….I’m actually happy that happened, because Stephanie Hsu playing Joy was a breath of fresh air. I feel Akwafina would have been too much of a visual comic relief disaster as, Stephanie’s sweetness & innocence made the role much more likable in this instant.
Funnily enough, Stephanie Hsu was also in Shang Chi (as was Michelle Yeoh and Andy Le) but presumably they didn't have their filming clash with Everything Everywhere All at Once.
I absolutely adore that despite not knowing what Jobu wants, he actually answers it in his line. "In every universe she's looking for you." She wants her mom.
Pls tell me I’m not the only person who cried at the end when Eric was talking about his mom, that’s such a loving story and it really shows why Eric has poured so much passion into these kinds of videos for all the years we’ve loved them.
As a kid of immigrant parents, with the same language barrier. I fell into that void for a while where the gap seemed impossible to fill. Been trying to put effort into the familial relationships more lately. Then this movie hit and I never felt more seen in my life. Cried the whole time walking home from the theater. Cried basically every time I see a clip. Didn't get a third of the way through this before I started crying again.
One small detail that I loved was the fact that the googly eyes were a reverse coloration of the bagel. They are representing finding the good in "nothing matters" vs finding the bad. When Evelyn puts one on her forehead, its not only a nod to opening ones third eye and seeing the truth, it is also a reversal of the black circle Jobu's followers wore on their foreheads.
In the first shot, there's a pair of eyes above the mirror reflecting the family in karaoke (the mimic of someone else's performance), but they are static, metal, cold - much like the bagel that is cold and gray. The googly eyes are light, clear, and kinetic, and even at the third-eye position, are dynamic and fun, in direct contrast to the bagel.
This actually ties into the Yin and Yang, where Yin (shown in the bagel) represents femininity (Jobu Tupaki/Joy), darkness, and absorption (how the bagel is a constant force of absorbing), while Yang (shown in the Googly eyes) represents masculinity (Waymond), light, and life (how the googly eyes give life to everything in Evelyn’s life)
It wasn’t addressed in the breakdown, but as someone with a severe mental illness who has contemplated suicide, I feel like that was a big component of the mother-daughter relationship. The daughter seemed to be dark, spiraling, drowning. Looking to her mother for help, for love, for acceptance, for anything that could bring her back from the brink. When I watched this movie, as a parent I sobbed because that’s what my interpretation was. A child desperately reaching out to her parent for help.
I feel like joy was reaching out for help but in the more realistic sense of wanting a positive relationship and real breakthrough with her mother. She never listened to her, and even as shes growing up (assumed ~18) moving out and fmforming new relationships shes trying to make this make sense and this movie uses scifi and a mega bagel to convey that importance.
Yes! I mean Alpha!Waymond outright says she's looking for Evelyn (though he misunderstands her intentions). And Evelyn herself mentions it at the end: "Something that explains why you still went looking for me through all of this noise." She's just looking for her Mama. That's all. For her Mama to help her, and understand her. 🥲
As someone who does feel depression, I feel like we think a lot about another life where we live without depression, but the fact that she went through every multiverse and feel like there is nothing to live for, but then found what matters, this is every empowering.
@@nelsondnazariotorres8732 I just watched it again and although I do agree she wants a better, happier relationship with her mother, she’s way past that point. I think the idea of the bagel destroying everything was an allegory for her own death destroying her mother’s universe. The rock scene illustrates this really well.
This movie is amazing. My wife and her family are immigrants from Macedonia and my inlaws run a nice little grocery store in Rochester, NY - and this movie really helped me to understand them as well as my wife's ability to remain perpetually positive throughout any situation we've ever faced. I was the Evelyn and she is my Waymond. And this movie just flipped so many things for me, it hit so close to home - like eerily close. I love it so much. The Daniels, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, everybody involved with this film deserves all the awards.
When I come home to visit CANANDAIGUA I am so going to come and visit your in-laws amazing grocery store!! I cannot wait to watch this movie with my girlfriend in due time!
Other movies have made me laugh harder, others have made me cried more, but never have I done so much of both in the span of a single film. This analysis made me appreciate it even more.
Am I the only one who cried when Waymond was giving his whole speech at the end of the film. I don’t what it was but it was so emotional for me, I absolutely loved his character and when he was giving his speech and Evelyn was being all powerful and evil, I just felt bad for Waymond.
Ugh, this is probably my favorite movie of the last few years. Voss breaking it down how it moved him as well was just magic. Thank you for this. Just like the movie it made me laugh & cry. Just brilliant.
"There are no bad movies, just interesting ones. Somewhere out there in the multiverse, someone appreciated it, and I don't wanna take that away from them" Thank you, honestly this is my sentiment with films and shows and stuff like that these days. I come out of movie theatres and already hear people talking shit about the film and I'm just like.. "Dude! Do you have to jump right into nitpicking every single aspect of this film? Do you gotta be so miserable?" It feels like im the only person in the world who can watch a film that has flaws and still enjoy it. like Quantumania, its flawed, its not perfect, i wish they did stuff differently but i STILL LOVE IT yet there has been so much negativity around it, and even though its faceless or sometimes even facefull people on the internet who wont ever meet me, it's still another human almost taking away and putting down something I enjoy. I know a lot of other people also like Quantumania so im not gonna say im the only one, but still, I see so much negativity about stuff about media these days and I'm just like.. Can't we appreciate art for art? Why do we have to judge it through a lens of predetermined structures? Why limit creativity? That's why I appreciate your content so much, I feel like you understand and see media and art the same way I do. Even if you didn't enjoy a movie or book or show.. real people were behind it, people put their heart and soul into the art. Art is Art, whether you like said Art or not, I think there should be some level of.. not respect but more so appreciation. Even a bad film can be enjoyed
I hear ya. I don't let nostalgia mess with my ability to enjoy more stories and see everything as its own thing. In truth, I think I've only watched two movies that my brain just said, "no, it's not watchable. Stop before you hate everything." One after 20 minutes of struggling, and the other I got through it and thought, "well that was a thing people did. At least they did a thing." It's hard for me to not like a movie. It's more like "once is enough" because it doesn't hit my rewatch-ability button. Hell, I'm definitely the nerd type that will sit and listen to the commentary of entire series. I've been listening to the Red Dwarf commentaries on my phone just doing stuff around the house. xD
I also agree art is art as long as it reaches for some kind of truth - that's why people appreciate art differently because one person might see a different truth in a piece of art from the next person. That's why some of it can hit home so strongly for you and leave the next person cold. Thank you Erik I have the same attitude towards movies like youw
Holy crap you actually broke down all 69 of the Evelyn's in that rapidfire section. Now that's a deep dive! Awesome breakdown! I loved this movie so much and you helped me appreciate aspects I didn't even see before!
That part about your mom hit hard. I lost my mom a couple of months ago and I can’t stop crying but that part made me feel better in a way. You may not read this directly but I wanted to say thank you. Deep dive Deja Vu. It’s one of my favorite movies.
Your analysis at the end about the "everything" and the real life examples you used with your mom was touching man. Reminded me of how my grandma was there for me as a kid. Really appreciated that and appreciate your positive out look on all movies. I'm a huge fan, keep doing you bro!
I've seen this movie a few times and each time it makes me sob uncontrollably. But you've put it in an even deeper perspective for me, especially when you showed the bagel next to that opening shot. How powerful! And thank you for sharing about your mom, it truly is the power of movies ❤️
Discovering this channel 6 years ago was legitimately the best thing that happened to me on TH-cam. I can't tell you how hard it is to find deep diving breakdowns and non clickbait-surface level stuff. At the end of the day, cinema is an art deemed to be cherished and a subject matter to be respected, and my favourite thing is to watch people preaching their love to movies the same way I want them to be admired. You guys have nailed it from the beginning, and I'm really excited for what's next! I'll never be thankful enough for your mom driving you to the theatre Erik
I struggled a little explaining why this movie is just one of the best things I've ever watched, I just couldn't find the words on why it was so deep, so beautiful, and so meaningful to me, I never find the words, but Erik did it masterly, and it shows how much he authentically loved it. He doesn't only pointed out the little details that make a movie not great, but almost perfect, but he also talks on the deeper meanings and relations to real life, HIS real life. Amazing, real 11/10.
I can’t tell you how much I’m loving this! I could watch you analyze literally anything and be enthralled. And I truly love your approach of finding the interesting things in every movie and not shaming people who enjoy things. After all, art is subjective. Choosing not to be negative is not the same as pretending a movie is perfect. I think you’re finding a fantastic balance. Keep up the outstanding work! This truly seems like a labor of love for you and I love getting to be a part of it on this end.
I loved your analysis Eric! What really hit home was your conclusion that the message of this film is that happiness is a choice. That is a philosophy that I came to realize in my own life within the last few years. During my teen years I was very similar to Joy and for a time in my late 20's I was similar to Evelyn. Once I realized that I could choose to be happy and learned to cherish it, I became more like Waymond. It's nice to see this portrayed on screen and I'm glad to see you acknowledging that message in this Deep Dive. Looking forward to future videos on this channel!
It truly feels like the most personal and important video for Eric through all "first pack" release. I'm very glad we see this movie in the same way. It's so great on so many levels. Livechanging, truly
Erik Voss is the hero I need but don’t deserve. This breakdown was a thoughtful and elegant work of art. I am so excited every time I hear “Hi I’m Erik Voss”. Beautiful video essay. I’m a grown man and this moved me to tears…and by “grown man” I actually mean “a kid who aged into an adult body” Can’t wait for more Deep Dives. Thanks for putting this into the world!
Watching this and get watery eyes can only mean one thing to me: that this movie as well as your analysis are truly great. I'm grateful for having found and enjoy both of you!
Michelle Yeoh’s unique and bravura performance in this utterly amazing film “Everything Everywhere All At Once” makes you have a kind of glimpse behind the fabric of life as we know it. And there it was on the big screen. Stunningly depicted every moment of it. It was mesmerizing! 😊
finally a real deep dive! Me trying to find someone who showed all the different Evelyns was impossible until today, thank you! This is a fantastic movie i hope they win an Oscar as they predicted.
Eric (if I may call you Eric!), I have always loved your positivity about all the geek stuff you talk about. I am a life long Doctor Who fan and finding the "interesting" side of any episode is something I have always tried to do! And it is extremely hard to find your equal when it comes to the multitude of 'analysts' of that show! This was another excellent video and the personal message about your Mum at the end was lovely! Please keep finding the joy and interesting in everything you do. It (along with the vast amount of time you put into these!) is HUGELY appreciated!
This definitely highlighted a lot of things I had not put much thought into, even after watching about 20 reactions and breakdowns already. Thanks for taking the time. Good luck with this new channel. Great job.
I’ve been waiting for a video like this since I saw the movie & this makes me want to go run and rewatch this great movie again. And then you ended on such a beautiful story, which I think shows why we all connect to you & your videos over the years. I’m so excited for this channel to get more content like this ❤
Thank you Erik - for always knocking it out of the park!! I love your videos for their analytical details, presented in an easily understandable way, with enthusiasm and fervor (regardless of what's going on behind the scenes). A true professional!! 💯😃👍
I am a 40 year old man and I cried, at work mind you, at Eric's story of his mother and the sentiment that everything is at least, interesting. I thought I was the only one that felt that way. I guess tha tis why I am drawn to Eric and his breakdowns. Keep Positivity Alive!
Erik you are a true gem when it comes to breaking down movies. Loved you on New Rock Stars loving your content on Deep Dive... Keep blessing us with your presence :)
Congrats on the new channel Eric! Your good vibes and enthusiasm for movies brings joy to so many on a daily basis. Couldn't make it through a shift at work without you (luckily I work from home so I can listen to videos all day). The time, attention to detail, care and passion you put into your work are appreciated. Blessings to you brother, be well
32:57 Dude, your breakdowns are not only fun, entertaining, and eye opening…. They are great introspective guides to learn about ourselves. Thanks for doing them. Another cool example of finding “specs of joy” is Pam’s last interview from the American office series. There is truly beautiful things that can be found in the ordinary.
ERIC VOSS! Thank you for doing these…at first, with our ever depleting attention spans, I seemed to shy away from the longer videos, but DEFINITELY can say, this was my favorite of ALL (yes, I’ve seen them ALL so far). Enough to not only bring a reminder’s tear to my eye and encouraged me to rewatch EEAAO again tonight…this is random, but when you said for us to recommend other movies to breakdown I gave it some thought…and the only movie that came to mind for all of its cinematic, subtle notions and overall BRILLIANCE, is Confessions of a Dangerous Mind with Sam Rockwell and George Clooney (along with a lot of other HUGE A list names in random underscored cameos), who made his directorial debut directing this film. If you haven’t seen it, you will thank me after watching, especially if you Google the story behind it’s “true story”. Sorry for the lengthy message but I hope this gets to you. Either way, thank you for all that you do and how you find the good, and “interesting” parts of ALL movies you see and breakdown. Your story at the end of this video made me smile….and then immediately share it with my girlfriend, who originally told me to watch the movie. -Dustin Dallas Racca
Love the breakdown. One thing I was hoping to find out was why there is some dead grass in the universe where life never formed near Joy (rock), it even blows in the wind slightly.
This movie is an absolute masterpiece, and your breakdown was incredible. I love your marvel breakdowns, but I've been looking forward to this for awhile. The part at the end, talking about your trips with your mom hit me way harder than I was expecting so thanks for that. I love.movies for similar reasons. Thank you for everything you do.
Several years ago (Oct 2019) I went on a cruise with my wife and a bunch of folks we knew. I took 400 googly eyes with me and shared them all over the ship. It irritated the hell out of my wife, but brought so much joy to so many folks. I followed that up with doing the same thing everywhere we went (bars, music festivals, friends houses, etc.). When the trailer for this first came out, I had so many folks pointing it out to me. I absolutely loved this movie (and not just for the googlies ;) ). Thanks for the great review.
I would draw a deep parallel between narrative structure of EEAAO and the novels of Kurt Vonnegut. Vonnegut really developed the power of "absurdism" as a narrative device to amplify the impact of an emotional juncture - by filling his stories with an almost incomprehensible array of absurd ideas (eg. a man living his life out of time sequence, getting abducted by aliens and being forced to live in a zoo with a porn star) then the awful reality of a WWII prisoner-of-war experience seems even more harrowing. It's almost a narrative equivalent of "extreme volume" - the sheer noise of all these ideas makes us completely unprepared for the sudden arrival of the "silence". EEAAO draws on the same technique - the seemingly relentless array of insane ideas (butt plugs, hot dog hands, Elvis with a pig, etc) is the "maddening noise", which leaves us so disoriented we have no pre-prepared emotional defence for the brutal emotional honesty that is the conclusion of the film.
Wow! I think I am REALLY going to like this channel! This was one of my favorite breakdowns you have done! (I have watch tons of your stuff) Thanks for the work you put in to this one. And the personal aspects you showed us! 😍
This is the type of analysis I love delving into. And over the years, I have found very few who share such perspectives. I appreciate this type of video! I would love to see "cult classics" on here, but I'm not picky.
Didn't know what to expect from this channel after jumping over from New Rockstars, but after this deep dive into my all time favorite movie, I'm loving it! Great video Erik, can't wait to see more
Eric your breakdown videos are the reason I'm so passionate with the MCU and now your new passion is bringing to the surface how much I love film and story telling in general. I wish there was a way for me to be involved in all of this. Great stuff. Edited : Also I discovered your videos shortly after moving to France from the US, where my daughter was born shortly thereafter. It hasn't been easy for me so this video and movie hit home in different ways. Thank You again.
Awesome job Voss and squad! Recently watched this movie in preparation for this Deep Dive and all the deserved hype it was getting. This breakdown made me appreciate it's uniqueness even more.
Amazing breakdown, thank you!! This movie was easily my favorite movie of 2022, and one of the best movies I have seen in general. Absolute triumph. Entertaining, thought-provoking, emotional, humorous, action-packed. It had it all, and this breakdown did it justice!
I think we can’t always choose to be happy, but we can choose to cherish and rely on those around us at times when we feel life has no meaning. That’s the message I got from this movie ❤️
I really think the multiverse idea was pulled off super well because many believe by introducing the multiverse into a story you make your world look larger however every action is now insignificant. EEAAO realizes this so the central conflict is that absolutely nothing matters which makes it feel way better and natural.
Thank you for being so positive and wholesome. I really enjoy your content because it's heartfelt, personal and passionate, when others might seem like they're just parts and cogs in the Media Machine. I can never turn away from your content when you upload because I simply love your work, keep at it, please!
I don't usually comment, but just wanted to acknowledge the tremendous work you put in this video (and all the others). I'm a big fan of your breakdowns.
So good, really enjoying the video essay format. The passion for understanding how the movie is made and the themes the movie is trying to convey is shown so well here. Thank you helping me appreciate this movie on a deeper level.
By far this has been the best analysis of this movie that I’ve watched, thank you Eric Voss you helped me to understand why this movie touched me in ways I had trouble expressing. Brilliant masterclass in movie analysis.
Thank you for doing this. This movie needs more exposure and as time goes on it seems to be doing just that. I was lucky enough to watch in theater and left with the movie having this effect on me. Sort of like adjusting a camera lens letting me appreciate the smaller things in life. The movie was just fantastic overall bringing insight into a troubled family and how they resolve each others emotional bagel hole by just showing that they care for one another.
I'm kinda glad you touched on the point of not believing in bad movies, I just had a talk with my son about that exact topic 2 days ago. No matter how weird, low budget or whatever someone or so many still viewed such movie.
Hey Eric ! Thanks for creating this new channel and deep diving for us. As if you had enough sleep already ^^ (but seriously, take care of you, man ! We love you, so don't forget to take care of yourself). And thanks a lot for covering what was arguably the best movie of last year (which is saying a lot, in a year that gave us an insane list of insane movies like The Batman, The Northman, Turning Red, Top Gun Maverick, Nope, The Menu, Avatar 2, and Puss in Boots 2 the Last Wish !). It's extremely rare for me to rewatch a movie even twice in a row... and I went to watch EEAAO in theaters 6 times ! The first one solo (and got blown away !), the second one solo as well (just to confirm my first viewing wasn't a dream), then each following time, showing it to different friends and family each time. And even long after its theatrical run was over, I still watched it twice again after moving back to Taiwan, one to show it to my best friend on the island, and finally to my mom, who didn't quite got it but still liked it. This movie is my everything bagel (it sucked me in !) So when you announced that the first Deep Dive video would be of this movie, I very much looked forward to it, and it didn't disappoint ! That was a fantastic breakdown ! Also, as a chinese descendant myself, I just wanted to point out a little tidbit that mostly only chinese people might have seen : the everything bagel is black, with a white hole in it. The googly eyes are white circles with a black dot in it. These are actually directly symbolizing the duality between the yin and the yang ! The bagel being Yin (darkness, water, cold, death, feminine essence...) And it is the symbol of Jobu Tupaki. The Yang energy is the polar opposite, light, warmth, fire, life, male essence...) and it is the symbol of Waymond. They are basically Evelyn's little devil and angel on her shoulders, in a constant tug of war to get her towards their viewpoint of life, and in the end, Evelyn chooses a third path : her own, right in the middle (you can see her at the begining of chapter 2 Everywhere hesitate and trying to decide where to put her circled receipt, and end up fracturing the screen by choosing both left and right, and at the begining of Chapter 3 All At Once, she just calmly put it in the middle of the frame) ! By choosing the center, she's basically embracing the nihilism of Jobu, but also combining it with the kindness of Waymond, thus combining both Yin AND yang, becoming a full circle of Taiji herself, therefore reaching cosmic balance, becoming the most powerful being in the multiverse (and possibly in the history of filmmaking !) This movie is just insane ! The Daniels apparently just won the best director award at the Directors ceremony, besting even Steven Spielberg for the Fabelmans, and I can't wait to see if they're gonna snatch the Best director and/or Best picture Oscar as well. Nobody has ever done a movie quite like this one before in the history of cinema, and I'm really rooting for them to get the recognition they deserve !
This is an amazing and moving analysis. Thank you! I would love to see you take a deep dive into 1985's Clue. I love discussing which ending is most plausible and analyzing each murder. It's also just an amazing comedy.
5 minutes in, hearing about the intersection between the multiverse and the immigrant experience and tearing up over here 🥲 thank you Erik & team for making the EEAAO deep dive i didn't know i needed 🤗 looking forward to all the great content in the rest of this analysis -- and channel! 🎉🍾
Everything Everywhere All At Once also did a better job allowing viewers to feel emotional moments, even sad ones, without interrupting it with a joke. Then, when they actually did interrupt, like Jobu Tupaki bringing Evelyn back to the bagel, it was funnier.
I’m gonna need a Deep Dive from this Deep Dive Episode! 😅 I need to rewatch this, so much detail 😍 The art and passion behind finding meaning on all these tittles and the perfect cadence that always ends your videos is what I’m here for. Keep geeking out and taking extra space, we are here for it, you are seen and appreciated and we live for this little bits of JOY. Thank you! …now about other movie titles to deep dive…S7VEN, Swiss Army Man, What Dreams May Come, Source Code, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Babel, The Hitchickers Guide to the Galaxy, The Truman Show, Constantine….. I can keep going😅
@EAVoss @TheDeepDive I know you focus on the root myth of each movie, do you think down the road you will also look at movies through a critical lens such as captialism or racism?
EEAAO was one of the only films I saw in theaters last year, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was different, it was heady, it was a great film with a stellar cast. I knew there was more under the surface of it that I probably missed, and I probably was the only person I know that didn't get choked up at Evelyn and Joy's reconciliation, but this deep dive was really fantastic. I need to see this film again.
The song “Story of a Girl” accurately encapsulates what’s happening here: “This is a story of a girl who cried a river and drowned the whole world”… or… multiverse?
Love you and your Deep Dives, Erik! Watching this made me realize I completely missed the meaning of this movie. A second viewing by me is definitely needed. And thanks for sharing such beautiful memories of you and your mom with us. Looks like she's the reason you're such a wonderful person!
Thank you, Erik, for splintering off with this channel. The hub and I really love your analyses and always hear something we hadn't caught or considered. Especially touched with you sharing your experience growing up and how you came upon your positive point of view from your mom. Best if luck with the channel. Wonder if you'd like to take a crack at the new All Quiet on the Western Front.
Amazing videos Eric. I'm so glad you're giving us deeper, more in depth film analysis. Thank you!! This is truly important for these amazing films/tv content
Thank You for reviewing this movie it definitely became one of my favorites ever. Funny , Well Structured, Incredible Acting all around, Perfect Action, and So much more Emotional than expected.
What I loved about EEAAO: it wasn’t about the science or saving the universe or the bagel. It was about loving your family unconditionally despite not fully understanding them.
Akwafina had to drop out of the production of filming, where she was to play Evelyn’s daughter, because of scheduling conflicts with this film & her role in SHANG CHI….I’m actually happy that happened, because Stephanie Hsu playing Joy was a breath of fresh air. Funnily enough, Stephanie Hsu was also in Shang Chi (as was Michelle Yeoh and Andy Le) but presumably they didn't have their filming clash with Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Stephanie Hsu killed it & should have won Oscar ahead of JLC

I absolutely adore that despite not knowing what Jobu wants, he actually answers it in his line. "In every universe she's looking for you." She wants her mom.
This analysis was awesome. Loved the recurring examples of the "employee first, family second" mindset from Evelyn!

I cried during this movie many times lol

@@nelsondnazariotorres8732 I just watched it again and although I do agree she wants a better, happier relationship with her mother, she’s way past that point. Am I the only one who cried when Waymond was giving his whole speech at the end of the film. I don’t what it was but it was so emotional for me, I absolutely loved his character and when he was giving his speech and Evelyn was being all powerful and evil, I just felt bad for Waymond.
Many, many of us cried during that too. Ke Huy Quan left everything on the stage. Incredible
Waymond was the actual hero of the film
Ugh, this is probably my favorite movie of the last few years. Voss breaking it down how it moved him as well was just magic. Thank you for this. Just like the movie it made me laugh & cry. Just brilliant.
Same!
"There are no bad movies, just interesting ones. Somewhere out there in the multiverse, someone appreciated it, and I don't wanna take that away from them"
Thank you, honestly this is my sentiment with films and shows and stuff like that these days.
I come out of movie theatres and already hear people talking shit about the film and I'm just like.. "Dude! Do you have to jump right into nitpicking every single aspect of this film? Do you gotta be so miserable?"
It feels like im the only person in the world who can watch a film that has flaws and still enjoy it.
like Quantumania, its flawed, its not perfect, i wish they did stuff differently but i STILL LOVE IT
yet there has been so much negativity around it, and even though its faceless or sometimes even facefull people on the internet who wont ever meet me, it's still another human almost taking away and putting down something I enjoy.
It's like the message in The Menu, all these patrons readily critiquing and taking for granted the effort to make the final product.
I've been listening to the Red Dwarf commentaries on my phone just doing stuff around the house. xD
That's how I feel I can enjoy a bad movie cause I like to do a rewrite of that movie and do different things. It's always very fun to do so.
Just an excuse for overrated MCU. Yet if it was DC U that made any error or mistakes people be like it's trashy movie from the start when it's not.
A movie masterpiece analysed in a masterclass.
I’m as impressed with this breakdown as i was with the movie. Mad respect all around.
Me too... I found newrockstars and Eric voss three years ago.. and it's the best thing happened to me too 🔥❤️
I struggled a little explaining why this movie is just one of the best things I've ever watched, I just couldn't find the words on why it was so deep, so beautiful, and so meaningful to me, I never find the words, but Erik did it masterly, and it shows how much he authentically loved it. He doesn't only pointed out the little details that make a movie not great, but almost perfect, but he also talks on the deeper meanings and relations to real life, HIS real life. Amazing, real 11/10.
These videos have been awesome! Thank you for the quality and passion you've put into each.
It’d probably be a little different, but I’d love to see a deep dive of Bo Burnham’s ‘Inside’
Also, Eighth Grade
I’m a grown man and this moved me to tears…and by “grown man” I actually mean “a kid who aged into an adult body”
Can’t wait for more Deep Dives.
Great job.
Please don't stop making content on this channel. Erik Voss and his breakdowns are the only reason why I'm even using TH-cam
TH-cam didn't notify me! Still managed to find it! Great video
I’ve been waiting for a video like this since I saw the movie & this makes me want to go run and rewatch this great movie again. And then you ended on such a beautiful story, which I think shows why we all connect to you & your videos over the years. I’m so excited for this channel to get more content like this ❤
This was an amazing review Eric I’m very glad you began the channel with this
Thank you Erik - for always knocking it out of the park!! I love your videos for their analytical details, presented in an easily understandable way, with enthusiasm and fervor (regardless of what's going on behind the scenes). A true professional!! 💯😃👍
This film pretty much instantly became my favourite of all time; glad to see it getting so much love

Dude, your breakdowns are not only fun, entertaining, and eye opening….
This was SO worth the wait. Thank you New Rockstars, thank you Eric, and thank you Eric’s mom!
(I have watch tons of your stuff)
Thanks for the work you put in to this one.
This movie and Farha made me cry uncontrollably. I’ve rewatched this multiple times and I can’t help myself from bawling.
Dude whenever Evelyn hugged Joy at the end, I sobbed loudly in my theater. No other movie has made me cry like that.
Loving this channel so far, stoked for this one!
It makes sense that my new All-Time favorite movie is now my All-Time favorite New Rockstars video. Thank you Erik and the NR crew.
Damn that was THE BEST ANALYSIS I've seen . Can't wait for more videos. The end of this video really brought it home for me.
This movie is my everything bagel (it sucked me in !)
So when you announced that the first Deep Dive video would be of this movie, I very much looked forward to it, and it didn't disappoint !
By choosing the center, she's basically embracing the nihilism of Jobu, but also combining it with the kindness of Waymond, thus combining both Yin AND yang, becoming a full circle of Taiji herself, therefore reaching cosmic balance, becoming the most powerful being in the multiverse (and possibly in the history of filmmaking !)
This movie is just insane !
I knew i was going to watch every single video on this channel . Loved this video.
I'm in a dark place right now but I never thought that a review of a movie would help me a bit to go through things. Thanks, Eric! Great insight!
This is an amazing and moving analysis. Thank you!
I would love to see you take a deep dive into 1985's Clue. I love discussing which ending is most plausible and analyzing each murder. It's also just an amazing comedy.
This was so beautiful, Eric. Thank you. Loved the ending when you talked about your mom and reevaluating criticism.
5 minutes in, hearing about the intersection between the multiverse and the immigrant experience and tearing up over here 🥲
thank you Erik & team for making the EEAAO deep dive i didn't know i needed 🤗
looking forward to all the great content in the rest of this analysis -- and channel!
Beautiful analysis Erik and the team! I'm really excited for the future of this channel!
This is already my favorite channel on TH-cam. Thank you so much!
Why did I cry during this movie and this Deep Dive....Great job as always!!
It's an amazing movie, and your analyses are amazing too. I'll enjoy this one.
@@DeepDiveNR No need to thank me. Just keep doing what you do.
An all-timer of a movie. Excited to watch this.
Love you and your Deep Dives, Erik! Watching this made me realize I completely missed the meaning of this movie. A second viewing by me is definitely needed. And thanks for sharing such beautiful memories of you and your mom with us. Looks like she's the reason you're such a wonderful person!
You are a master of your craft sir. I love how you break down things and make them relatable.
This was great, the respect this movie deserves.
I absolutely adored this movie. So unexpectedly deep, I was so unprepared I cried
Beautiful analysis. Especially the understanding surrounding the positive message around the mother daughter relationship. Well don, Eric and team DD.
Finally long form analysis that isn’t 50% ads 😩 thank god the deep dive
This such a great breakdown! Thank you Erick you have brought many years of Joy and entertainment to us! I truly look forward to all your videos.
Amazing analysis of the movie. You had me teary eyed at the last portion of the video.
What I loved about EEAAO: it wasn’t about the science or saving the universe or the bagel. It was about loving your family unconditionally despite not fully understanding them.
Appreciate the analysis because I remember seeing this in the theater and walked away totally confused and surprised to see it nominated for an Oscar
That was a LOT of work to gather all those details and assemble them. Wow. Thank you for ALL of your insights.
The decision to use this movie as one of the focal points of the new deep dive pushed me to finally see it and I’m superbly impressed!!! Thank you
Found a new favorite channel! Excited to watch
This channel deserves many more views and I hope they will follow.
Awesome job, Eric. Would love to see a deep dive of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
Best of luck to you for this channel, going good so far!
I gotta say man, I don’t know you personally but I got nothing but love for you big Voss. Dont ever change big dawg 🙏🏾
It's amazing how detailed and analytical this is. Thank you for your effort!
