hey, I just wanna say that your review and the comments that it solicited really helped me in buying decision. I was literally in the store comparing these monitors. I went with the Alienware based on my experience, your video, and really the comments of people expressing how happy they were. I love my new monitor so far I'm 30 minutes of gameplay in, but it's amazing.
I've done lots of internet research for a top end OLED gaming monitor. I purchased the Alienware for it's price and performance which is comparable if not better than the more expensive displays.
I tried the AW3225QF and it's amazing for a gaming monitor paired with a 3080ti and Ryzen 5900x. I can't quite reach the 240fps in 4k in games and while it's very bright in dolby hdr for 25% window size and below, it struggles to stay bright when closer to a 50 to 100% bright window size. I bought a 55 inch Samsung s90c tv and was lucky to get a gen 2 panel, which I modded through the service menu to reach peak 2000 nits and in a full window it looks insanely bright, I disabled ABL and stays above 400 nits in a full window, brighter than my old IPS LCD monitor and much more vibrant. The PQ on this TV is now truly insane and I could never go back after experiencing such high level of PQ and the performance my PC can output is just right for the 144hz as I can reach above 144 fps stable in most games with my GPU and CPU setup.
In a previous comment about ''G80SD'' I've mentioned that green was extremely oversaturated with ''Native'' color space setting but I've deleted that comment because I've recently figured out that it could be fixed by changing ''Game Genre'' in the ''game mode'' menu which is accesed by long pressing play/pause button on the remote. As far as I've inspected, every game genre option has problematic greens when ''Native'' color space is chosen except ''Eco'' and ''Original'', including the two ''Custom'' ones. I also observed that eco and original modes has less oversaturation, which is probably still not so accurate but a lot better than other game genre choices when using ''Native'' color space. Apologies if I've confused or mislead anyone with my previous comment but I guess Samsung gets half the blame for making it this complicated. TL;DR: If you are using the monitor in 240 hz with Native color space, you should stick to original or eco game genre for somewhat decent color accuracy.
I have the AW3225QF and it is my first QD-OLED and my first Curved display as well. I went from an LG 48" C1, as that was too big for any reasonable desk... I did stick it out for 4 years though, lol. I've had the Dell for almost 4 months now, and I LOVE IT!!!! I use it with my XSX and PS5, but mostly with my PC (4090 and 7800X3D) and lately I have been playing MC(Bedrock) with the Vanilla RTX resource pack, and it just pops with the light rays, and shiny/translucent objects. The only real negative about it is the curved screen plus the shiny coating make it a glare magnifier, lol. However, with that being said, I'll take this over the 48" C1 any day!!!! :D Edit: I play on Bedrock because it is easier to play with my kids(4y, 6y, 14y) and my wife. ;)
I have the exact same set up now, 48" C1 for 4 years and itching to get a normal sized monitor for my desk. I think you have made up my mind :) thanks bud!
some games don't support 4k @ 120hz on console, it's up to the developer. In situations like this, some people like playing at 1440p @ 120 for higher frame rate.
@@jeffcolvin I don’t think any game actually supports 4K 120hz on console (outside maybe Rocket League). Consoles don’t have powerful enough graphics even run native 4K 30fps. I’ve run a game that supports 1440p 120hz supposedly on my XSX and I’ve run that same game at 1440p 120hz (capped) on my PC. They look and feel completely different. For consoles to get higher refresh rates in game graphics have to be turned down so low 90% of developers don’t think it’s worth it. Although why would someone gaming only on console buy this monitor? You can’t take full advantage of its resolution (without upscaling) or refresh rate and it cost over double what a console does.
I was just asking that same question so thanks for making a video comparison for both 👍 I was very surprised by the differences in color calibration and that the samsung display doesn't do that well even after calibration so your video was well appreciated I don't understand why color fringing is introduced on a glossy panel but not on a matte one 🤔It looks like a subjective point so good thing the test comes with pictures You guys still don't seem to take HDR10+ seriously since the Alienware monitor was mentioned with Dolby Vision but not HDR10+ for the Samsung OLED G8 which is a bummer HDR10+ is used in Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2 (So maybe GTA6 one day), Call of Duty Modern 3 and The First Descendant so it has to be taken seriously now in 2024 ! I prefer glossy coating and I prefer the screen to be curved, so the Dell is for me. But I'm still keeping my LG 42" C2. I don't know if I really want to sacrifice brightness in favor of small size, but 32" would be a good fit for me, even when it comes to using a screen magnifer.
i'm torn between both of these monitors and the neo g8 that's 4k and the asus 4k oled that you mentioned in the end. i want it for my racing sim for gran turismo and f1 24. will any of these look better than the other? in terms of lighting i have a ceiling fan and 2 windows and one of the windows is next to the monitor i use. i currently use a samsunbg 28 inch g7. which woiuld be better for light rooms and dark rooms?
I've had the AW3225QF for the last couple of months, and I really love it. I use it for casual gaming on the PS5 and working on my Mac, and it's great.
What a waste of a high end monitor. Could’ve built a PC so you could play games at refresh rates significantly higher than a PS5 and native 4K or at least 4K using a good upscaler like DLSS. Refresh rates and resolution aside the actual graphics of a game on PC vs console are a night and day difference. Idk what work you do but 9.9/10 a PC will do a significantly better job if it requires anything intensive. I have a LG CX (4K 120hz) and a Samsung Odyssey G7 (1440p 240hz) that I use a XSX and a somewhat higher end PC with. A console can’t take full advantage of either of my displays let alone 4K 240hz and a Mac that can’t play any games may be able to run native 4K but only at 30hz or 60hz. You could’ve got a 4K 60hz OLED and saved $600-$800 while using the full capability of both devices. What was the point of paying all that extra money for something you can’t utilize? I’m triggered.
Can someone tell me what the burn in is like on the Samsung monitor? Dell covers burn in for 3 years while Samsung doesn't so im very unsure of buying the G8 because of it. Edit: just bought the alienware monitor because im impatient 😂
I had to return my G8 because i was unhappy with the brightness level, it was wayyy too low for me and im surprised other people have not noted, the picture quality was very good but the anti glare and low brightness was not good enough for me, i prefer glossy fully bright OLED
Did you have any problems with color calibration? I tried samsungs g60sd and i found it impossible to find a good color balance, everything was simply way too extremely dark.
Question: Samsung offers an ICC profile that you can install that should take care of any color issues on the "native" colour space. Did you install that before running your tests?
I’ve never owned a curved monitor. Does the curvature make it worse watching content at a different angle other than sitting directly in front of it? If I watch a movie 2-3 meters away. Is the picture quality and experience any worse?
@@IrrationalCharmI own it and if you look straight you literally dont even notice its curved, the curve is the least one i ever saw very minimal. Nice review. I ended up getting the Dell bcoz I love glossy screen! Could you possibly post the 'Custom Color' settins for maximum color accuracy for the Dell? I don't have prrofession calibration tool to perform it. Also, I use Crettor DCI-P3 mode, is that not better? I think colors looks more vibrant with it overall.
Nice! We hope you're happy with the purchase😄 Our website review has our color settings and an ICC Profile in the "Color Accuracy (Post-Calibration)" box: www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/dell/alienware-aw3225qf Just remember that our settings are meant to provide a starting point; they're not meant to be copied 1:1. They provide the most accurate image in a moderately lit room, but you should adjust them to match your preferences and viewing conditions!
Sitting here watching this waiting for my Samsung to be delivered. It's coming today. I think I made the right choice going with it over the Dell. I'm not a big curved guy. And also that portrait mode is really nice when you work from home. Only thing I need to find now is the calibration for the monitor you reference. Where the f*** is that?
It’s overkill for a console. Even with all the upscaling they use you won’t be able to play 4k games at refresh rates higher than 30fps or maybe 60fps absolute max. Nothing actually runs 4K 120hz (let alone 4K 240hz). Build yourself a PC first before you look at a monitor of this price and caliber.
Ended up getting the samsung odyssey g7 its ips 4k 144hz got it for 550 on best buy, it has speakers and rgb lights its a smart monitor good for the money ngl for gaming its nice upgraded from a asus 1080 120hz
@@tito0349 that’s a great monitor especially upgrading from 1080p. I have the original Odyssey G7 (1440p 240hz VA panel) I got on sale for $600 back in 2020 and it was a huge upgrade coming from a 1080p 60hz monitor. Was playing on it using my XSX up until a few months ago when I finally built a PC. I was able to use its full 240hz for the first time which blew my mind but made me realize it was definitely overkill for my console. Ended up getting the Samsung G80SD from this video on sale for $899 so I could use my G7 as a full time monitor on my sim racing rig. The G80SD is awesome but no games that I play even get close to 4k 240hz. For competitive shooters like CoD I end up turning the resolution down to 1440p so I can get that 240hz refresh rate. You definitely made the right decision saving over $400 and getting that G7 for playing on console. You’ll definitely enjoy it 👍
Im worried about long run. I also have aw3225qf and i donthear any fan noise. Only some coil whining when i put my ears really close. But people have issue with old models like aw3423dwf. I asked dell sales department and dell warranty extension and upgrade department about what will happen if my fan builds up dust and start to make noise from fan motor? Its simple job to replace the fan but they could not provide any answer for the fan. So im worried im sure nothing makea noise within a year
@@mark8200 only if you mostly play single player games or mostly use your console to consume media (which is weird because the TV would have those apps built in). 32" is really the highest anyone should go for competitive gaming
Alienware AW3225QF is the clear winner. What he forgot to mention that Samsung has slightly lower end build quality with back panel on the back of the monitor that has power, HDMI, Display Port, and USB ports which is for some weird reason not fixed and when pressed too hard can easily misalign panel with plastic openings for those ports. In general Samsung always had issues with build quality for as long as I remember.
Can anyone who has the Alienware and an Xbox series x comment on their experience? I am a bit concerned with it not having 1440p @ 120 hz. What’s been everyone’s experience? Overall I prefer the curve and the glossy finish a bit more than the Samsung, but if that aspect results in game performance being significantly deteriorated I may have to go with the Samsung afterall
At the end of the video you mentioned that the other models such as ASUS and MSI have a KVM Switch, does this mean that the Aleinware and Samsung monitors don't support switching between 2 devices connected at the same time? A PS5 and a PC.
I could be wrong but kvm switches only allow you to use the same inputs for two different sources, but the screen can of course change sources. For example if you had two PCs the KVM switch would allow you to connect the mouse and keyboard directly to the screen so you don’t have to have two keyboards or two mice. All that being said, basically all monitors since HDMI became a thing would be able to support swapping signals between PC and PS5
The dell monitor has a psu installed in the monitor, what if it breaks??? The dell hat a fan in the monitor to cool the components, what if the fan breaks, means more noise or hotter components reducing the life span. The BIG disadvantages in my opinion!!!
This review missing one critical issue with the Samsung, the tizen OS is horrible for desktop usage. I have one and I would highly recommend you get an alternative display . The startup time is horrible at 10+ seconds (and for OLED its recommnded to have windos turn off the display very aggersivley making this issue larger) and even once its on there are 2 very largle popups for another 10+ seconds that are impossible to disable . The long start up time freaks windows out if you have multiple dispalys that startup faster ( My other Samsung displays start in 1-2 seconds) so everything flashes and blinks for several seconds and if you start using the other monitor/s before everything has settled windows can crash. Can't recommed, this is both the best and worst monitor I have every owned and if Samsung would take it back for a refund I would get rid of it in a heart beat.
A possible work around could be disabling the power settings to leave the monitor on. Of course, this would be being careful not to leave the same imagine on screen for hours. I agree with you it was a poor choice to integrate Tizen. It's completely unnecessary and frankly quite bizarre. Why would I need netflix built into my computer monitor when I'm on a computer....?
Hi, great details! Coming from a g7 i know samsumg screens have these weird issues noone talks about... greyed out menus and stuff that only works qhen you turn off the other..and black screens..i am fearing tizen and its complicatedness... but still torn betweem these two monitors as i cam get thw g8 for 600€ with some vouchers... and the dell for 760€... yet im used to non glossy g7, it looks great so i reckon the g8 would look great too....and i sit in mostly dark room...i dont know

i was just considering an oled monitor when i discovered i can get 200usd discount using my company email, so I buy right away. although it's still about the same price with alienware after reduction. I play some games like wukong but I mostly want an oled to watch hdr contents on netflix. i wonder if dolby vision on alienware make huge difference
Just bought the Alienware for around 700€ I think when talking about value that's a great price since the Samsung is still around 1000€ Let's hope it's worth it money :)
@CardRder the offer currently is an early black Friday deal from Dell usual price there: 1119€ Black Fridayoffer: 950€ Than I have a 15% corporate benefits coupon that gets it to 807€ and from the site/ extension called "shoop" I got another 15% cashback on that order of 807€. So the total cost for me is about 685€ And I get 1% from my credit card as well on that 807 so another 8€ that's 676€. If you want to include The Dell 4000 rewards points worth 40€ then it's about 636€ but I probably won't find a use for them since you need to order for at least 100€ at the Dell shop to redeem them.
@@CardRder yo why do my comments keep dissapearing. short answer: on sale from dell = 950. 15% coupon from corporate benefits -> 807. 15% cashback -> 685.
i have G80SD and if you just using that monitor for work, its good. if for gaming, just skip to the next gen with DP 2.1. HDMI 2.1 with DSC is not enough bandwith to run 4K 240 hz. always cause black screen everytime gaming -_- disable it and go back to 4K 120hz is the only way to fix that anw, i got the G80SD around 860$, so for me its worth to experience one of the best monitor right now
Weird i own aw3225qf,played many games on it never experienced that black screens just vrr flicker sometimes in loading screen, the 4k 240hz is working totally fine and hitted close 240hz on older games. As far i know they have the same panel.

You can do things like disable ASBL with the Samsung tho. Although I'd still choose the Alienware, because it's extremely accurate in both SDR and HDR from the factory, also the Samsung only supports 2.2 and BT.1886 gamma in sdr, it doesn't support SRGB gamma.
@@verttisyrjala2897 i had the alienware and returned it because of the scratches on the screen. Other than that if you can get it for a cheap price i would do it
I wouldn't Buy one of these Monitors, Why did monitor makers jump on the quarter inch Black border all on the Inside viewing surface of their monitors???2 of those would look real dumb side by side. Nice Thin edged monitors side by side with a half inch Black line running down the middle
What do you mean What Am I saying, Most Monitors and TV's now When you Turn them on, there is a CM/quarter inch black bank all on the inside of the screen, But yet they have a Nice Thin Frame around them, so why can't they use the screen fully?

Just remember that our settings are meant to provide a starting point; they're not meant to be copied 1:1. They provide the most accurate image in a moderately lit room, but you should adjust them to match your preferences and viewing conditions!
@@RTINGSComputer Thank you!👍
Why these monitors are not suggested for photography editing when they have delta
Isn't it 48 gigabits per second and not gigabytes?
Why did you move monitors to a new channel?
Sitting here watching this waiting for my Samsung to be delivered. It's coming today. I think I made the right choice going with it over the Dell. I'm not a big curved guy. And also that portrait mode is really nice when you work from home. Only thing I need to find now is the calibration for the monitor you reference. Where the f*** is that?
The alien ware is on sale 974 with taxes is it good? I have a ps5 and a xbox series x
im hoping so bro. i just pulled the triggger on that deal from best buy and picking it up tomorrow.
You’ll definitely enjoy it 👍
Why you didn't talk about sound ? I think one have speakers and the other not.
The aw3225qf has fan to cool system, the g80sd has external adapter and heatsink only in monitor. I wonder if aw3225qf will make fan noise in long run
I own it for a month didnt hear any noise at all.
Nope
Im worried about long run. I also have aw3225qf and i donthear any fan noise. Only some coil whining when i put my ears really close. But people have issue with old models like aw3423dwf. I asked dell sales department and dell warranty extension and upgrade department about what will happen if my fan builds up dust and start to make noise from fan motor? Its simple job to replace the fan but they could not provide any answer for the fan. So im worried im sure nothing makea noise within a year
@@inhwankim9418 Coil whine in your monitor? LMAO
@@El_Deen My 4k 27" DELL monitor has coil whine on its side. Seems to be from the HUB "charger" unit... it's not loud, but it's there :)
What would you say ja bettwr for consoles?! I have ps5 and XSX?! Plz help
A TV
@@mark8200 only if you mostly play single player games or mostly use your console to consume media (which is weird because the TV would have those apps built in). 32" is really the highest anyone should go for competitive gaming
Alienware AW3225QF is the clear winner. What he forgot to mention that Samsung has slightly lower end build quality with back panel on the back of the monitor that has power, HDMI, Display Port, and USB ports which is for some weird reason not fixed and when pressed too hard can easily misalign panel with plastic openings for those ports. In general Samsung always had issues with build quality for as long as I remember.
Alienware's purple screen isn't that distracting. Who stares at a monitor when it's off lol. The monitor looks really good with games and movies
Sold my Alienware for the G80 and love it
Why?
I want the G8 but i see lots of bad review about the "sleep" mode.
Notice anything about that?
@@mrluni I have this G8 and I don't even know what is the issue you are talking about :) Can you please add more details?
@mrluni what do you mean sleep mode?

Hi wanted to know for watching videos which is better? I watch a lot of series and movies so does curved screen is it good or bad?
Can anyone who has the Alienware and an Xbox series x comment on their experience? I am a bit concerned with it not having 1440p @ 120 hz. What’s been everyone’s experience? Overall I prefer the curve and the glossy finish a bit more than the Samsung, but if that aspect results in game performance being significantly deteriorated I may have to go with the Samsung afterall
4:17 ah yes. 144p. My favourite resolution!
Ah good catch, sorry for the mistake there! Of course that should be 1440p!
@@RTINGSComputer All good. You guys do solid testing and I appreciate the vid. Just reminded me of early TH-cam uploads. 😁
How did MSI make VRR work that much better...... I don't get it...
you forgot samsung has superior cooling and much better %10 hdr window brightness !
Dude my eyes hurt already with my aw3225qf. Brightness is fine. My eyes burn but the hdr looks so good
@@veilmontTVexactly..
@@solkvist8668 This makes sense, thanks!
Coming from a g7 i know samsumg screens have these weird issues noone talks about... greyed out menus and stuff that only works qhen you turn off the other..and black screens..i am fearing tizen and its complicatedness... but still torn betweem these two monitors as i cam get thw g8 for 600€ with some vouchers... and the dell for 760€... yet im used to non glossy g7, it looks great so i reckon the g8 would look great too....and i sit in mostly dark room...i dont know
@@hab9514 I'd take the G8 if you can get it for 600€ !
@@elievulcain7295 yesss , got it, and yepppp my fear of tizen was correct haha! Typical Samsung, i can turn off my robotvacuum and turn on the kitchen light with my monitor, however i had no clue how to get a brighter picture the first day! Hah, looks great now tho

why on earth would you put a white frame on an OLED holy shit
I have the G80, it's not noticeable in use.
I literally never notice it in use, doubt most would
I'm in the minority of people who have white walls in my house so it's not even noticeable.
Because asians have white walls apartments

Whats coming in 2025 (next gen)
i bought the samsung on sale 40% off plus they threw in another tv 1080p for free so i went with them instead of dell i like free lol
Right. Lol
i was just considering an oled monitor when i discovered i can get 200usd discount using my company email, so I buy right away. although it's still about the same price with alienware after reduction. I play some games like wukong but I mostly want an oled to watch hdr contents on netflix. i wonder if dolby vision on alienware make huge difference
Samsung warranty is awful
Just bought the Alienware for around 700€
I think when talking about value that's a great price since the Samsung is still around 1000€
Let's hope it's worth it money :)
Were u find one for 700
@CardRder the offer currently is an early black Friday deal from Dell usual price there: 1119€
Black Fridayoffer: 950€
Than I have a 15% corporate benefits coupon that gets it to 807€ and from the site/ extension called "shoop" I got another 15% cashback on that order of 807€.
So the total cost for me is about 685€
And I get 1% from my credit card as well on that 807 so another 8€ that's 676€.
If you want to include The Dell 4000 rewards points worth 40€ then it's about 636€ but I probably won't find a use for them since you need to order for at least 100€ at the Dell shop to redeem them.
Yeah, give us the details!
@@CardRder somehow you did not get marked im my response, see the other comment i made
@@CardRder yo why do my comments keep dissapearing.
short answer: on sale from dell = 950. 15% coupon from corporate benefits -> 807. 15% cashback -> 685.
Id say alienware is better 100% if your in a darker room with limited natural light
My moms basement
i have G80SD and if you just using that monitor for work, its good. if for gaming, just skip to the next gen with DP 2.1. HDMI 2.1 with DSC is not enough bandwith to run 4K 240 hz. always cause black screen everytime gaming -_- disable it and go back to 4K 120hz is the only way to fix that
anw, i got the G80SD around 860$, so for me its worth to experience one of the best monitor right now
I got mine yesterday and so far 4k 240hz is working fine for me
Weird i own aw3225qf,played many games on it never experienced that black screens just vrr flicker sometimes in loading screen, the 4k 240hz is working totally fine and hitted close 240hz on older games.
As far i know they have the same panel.
@@Whreck11 i dont know but a lot of people have the same problem as i have. so maybe you just lucky
@@KhanhNguyen-wm1bu yea cant really tell, the only annoying thing for me is the vrr flickering sometimes on some loading screens.
@@Whreck11 haha, I have flicker as well. Only way to solve this is turn off game mode and get back to 4K 120hz

Glossy only.
There are enough glossy models out there. Asus, msi, aorus, alienware. Having a choice for matte like the g8 is also good.
Other than that if you can get it for a cheap price i would do it
Matte only.

alienware 100x, its not even close
yeah 100x worse ugly bottom bezel and dumb curved display. If you wanna glossy get Gigabyte Aorus not this garbage.
This tchau looks more like a Brazilian than a Italian.
I wouldn't Buy one of these Monitors, Why did monitor makers jump on the quarter inch Black border all on the Inside viewing surface of their monitors???2 of those would look real dumb side by side. Nice Thin edged monitors side by side with a half inch Black line running down the middle
Wtf are you saying
What do you mean What Am I saying, Most Monitors and TV's now When you Turn them on, there is a CM/quarter inch black bank all on the inside of the screen, But yet they have a Nice Thin Frame around them, so why can't they use the screen fully?
@@robertmacdonald345 you said "running down the middle". I was confused by that. I don't know why they can't go to the edge of the screen with the image.
I mean if you Buy 2 Monitors and Have them Side By Side, then there will be a crappy Black Border right down the center, But if it went right to the Edge, then the Thin Frames they have around them now would be Fine.
@robertmacdonald345 ahh ok. makes Sense..there must be a technical reason why they can't have the image go to the edge .
And the winner is the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG32UCDM! :))
And nearly twice as much expensive than alienware in EU😂
