Chad deserves more credit that he does he was a big part he came up with a lot of the drum beats we know and love like, In Bloom.
Yes he did. Dave took them and made them even better. No worries. Chad doesn't have to worry about eating or housing, money for the rest of his life. He is OK.

I know Dave claims that Chad wrote the fills for in bloom, but I have read that kurt actually had to show Chad his idea for the fills in In Bloom, implying kurt wrote them. Chad's still a great drummer.

He should be listed as at least past member or "original drummer" of Nirvana in Rock Hall of Fame!
Aaron Burchard was the original drummer. he was only in the band in 1987 I believe. Was fired for being too unreliable.
Yeah Chad should have been listed as a part of the band in Rock Hall of Fame, cause he was the drummer on “Bleach” and tours for about 2 years of their beginning career. He was a huge part of Nirvana that he should get credit for!!!!!
Don't forget Melvin's Dale Crover briefly pulled kit-duty for pre-Grohl era Nirvana too.

Little known fact....Chad Channing actually played on Nevermind.. the cymbal hits on "Polly" are Chad Channing. They used the original recording from the earlier Butch Vig sessions from 1990

Yes. In Bloom was originally recorded for Sub Pop. The drum part is pretty much what Dave played ..like you said. Though Dave played it better lol

Chad Channing: Dude, you helped shape me. Bleach was and STILL is a huge part of my growing as a human being. I absolutely love it and your drumming is badass! Also, I grew up in Santa Rosa, CA. I read you were born there, not sure it that's correct. I'm officially addicted to live Nirvana shows on TH-cam...especially during quarantine. The BLEACH years were really the time when the artists were hungry and at their happiest before the darkness of fame set in. Okay, I'm rambling... thanks for getting me through the dark times and giving me a positive BEAT that will last forever!!!

@@Ratelzwatel I cannot disagree with you more. Pete Best played with the Beatles for 2 years after they had been through several drummers. Plus, he and his mom provided the practice space for the band. Pete Best was a HUGE part of their history, and they fired him over a misunderstanding. George Martin wanted a studio drummer for their first recordings. He told Brian Epstein this. Epstein misunderstood, and thought Martin wanted Best permanently removed, which he didn’t. George Martin talked about this in several interviews, and he felt HORRIBLE about it. He felt like he robbed someone. It’s really an awful story. Ringo Starr was the beneficiary of the biggest misunderstanding in Rock History. Decades later, Best sued for False Termination, and he won. I think he got a couple million dollars (pounds). In my opinion, he deserves $20 million or so. That guy was loyal, and gave his heart and soul when The Beatles were playing for practically no money. It’s a huge injustice.

I'm happy I found out Chad's cymbal hits on polly made it onto nevermind from a previous demo. I'm guessing hes getting some very healthy checks. Happy for him. Great drummer.

I really enjoy watching videos of Chad reminiscing about his time with Nirvana. It's nice to be clued-into a perspective of what it was like to be a member of that band in its early days just before they blew-up but bittersweet, in a way, at the same time given that Chad wasn't there to experience the full scope of their fame that came so shortly after his departure .

whats great is that i have the box set and you can see chad playing with nirvana back in 88 or89 and it just makes me smile, cause 20 years later he looks exactly the same haha.
There is no doubt this guy should be included in the hof. No doubt. This is similar to the drummer on VS and Vitalogy being left out of Pearl Jam hof. Pearl Jam is in the hof because of their first 3 albums, and they left out the drummer from 2 of those 3 albums. Dumb.
Anyone else feel sorry for Chad? Not being a part of Nirvana-mania but still having to relive the Bleach years interview after interview.

the ONLY DIFFERENCE between dave and chad's drumming is dave hit the heads harder. they could've simply asked chad to hit harder instead of kicking him out for dave. during the rock n roll hall of fame dave even tells everyone that chad is the one who made up the drum parts.
Chad made up some of the drums parts. A lot of Nevermind and all of In Utero is still Dave Grohl. They had different styles and different set ups and different influences. Dave just fit Nirvana better

Kurt, Krist and Chad were Grunge that Bleach days, and with Dave and later with Pat it began to morph into a Alternative Rockband. How humble Krist and Chad are, and what a hard contrast Kurt was to both. Yes, other comments are right, if they write that Chad had to leave, not because he is a bad drummer, but Dave put more of these controlled wilderness (i Know, he was the silent Bob first too) and professional workflow to the band character.

Jack Endino said he never really liked Channing's drumming set up and that it didn't record very well
yeah, he was a good drummer (particularly by 1990; some of his live performances, particularly on scoff and sifting, were fucking incredible and as powerful and technically good as dave's live performances) but apparently his kit was dirt cheap and held together by duct tape. he definitely got plenty of mileage out of it, but there's always an upper limit for how good a crappy instrument can sound

I wonder what would've happened if they released Sheep and Chad stayed in the band, would definitely have been interesting.
I find Chad Channing a very creative drummer. He's important for 'Nevermind', for which he helped create the drums for some of Nirvana's best known songs ('In Bloom', 'Breed', 'Lithium', 'Stay Away').
I find Dave Grohl's drumming on 'In Utero' mostly rather boring. Imagine how 'In Utero' would have sounded if Channing helped creating the drums. The album would be much more like the compilation 'Incesticide', which also has other creative drummers.
Grohl is mostly about loudness, banging the drums hard. I think Grohl sounds great when performing Channing's parts (and those by the other drummers), but I miss creativity in composing drums by himself.
Chad seems like such a good guy, his songs for his band 'before cars' are pretty good & he made up the drum parts for about half the nevermind songs. Unlucky to leave the band, hopefully he gets a bit of royalty money from bleach & insesticide
