- Krist Novoselic speaks at the "Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses" opening party at Experience Music Project on Friday April 15th, 2011. Jacob McMurray masterminded this exciting exhibit, which is scheduled to remain in place at EMP for the next two years.

I am a grown man of 26 years old. Watching this makes my eyes swell up and stand at the utmost awe of Krist, Dave and Kurt. I've been listening to Nirvana ever since my brother of 32, introduced me to the band at the age of 8-9 years old. Even then, my childish mind understood what Nirvana was about, the emphasis on the music, the freedom, the hard work of ALL the members of that band performed. They joked around with eachother and everybody casually and happy. I love you. Dave, Krist and Kurt.

Krist is a one of most kick ass musicians there is! To be this gracious and humble says a lot to me & I appreciate the fact that he never has exploited Kurt or said anything to defame him. He's always honored Kurt's memory & is mindful when he speaks about him. I wish more of Nirvana's recordings & Kurt's music was made public rather than selected sections of his personal journals which were not intended for us to read.
I agree. I have never purchased the journals even though I know they'd be useful to my channel. I had to ask myself if I would want someone to sell my personal journals and the answer is no. Courtney will sell anything of his, though.

I was 12 when Nevermind came out and it changed my life..I bought Wipers, Melvins, SOnic Youth, meat puppers, MELVINS! records..if it wasn't for them I wouldnt be the same person..Thank you Krist and nirvana for the gift of music and art.

Nirvanas music will always be timeless. I can put on any of their records and they still sound fresh today. The lyrics are powerful even though at times they make no sense. Kurt is speaking to the disenfranchised youth. The sound that Nirvana had was just brutal as hell. The band live just totally blew me away. Nirvana as a band were not fake or lazy.They gave their records and live shows everything they had.
I've learnt a lot during my isolation Nirvana video binge. One lesson is, Krist Noveselic knows shirts!!!!

That there, was the END of hair metal in Vancouver as i knew it. Everyone just stood there like "WHAT tHE F##K"????????
Krist is 6 feet 8 inches tall. He realized at a young age he wasn't much of an athlete and couldn't play basketball. He then got in to music.

Not to take anything away from Kurt, but what Dave has achieved since Nirvana shows that he is a great talent in his own right and even though Nirvana gave him exposure he had not had previously, he totally deserves his success. The way Krist carries himself in interviews and during this speech shows that he is an intelligent and well adjusted guy on top of being a great bass player. Although Kurt was a great talent, Nirvana was the sum of it's parts.
He looks so...Hurt.
You can tell he obviously misses Kurt.

I mention that all the time, He didn't just lose his singer , he lost his best friend.
Whenever I see Krist now it bums me out. He's like a broken shadow of the goofball he used to be before his best friend killed himself :(

Ouch, oweee, makes my little guts hurt. Was 11 when Nevermind came out, wore that poor cassette out. Literally. Yeah, Nirvana changed my life. The many avenues that it opened to a lonely little Kansas girl, I can never express my gratitude. Thank you.

Punk isn't one thing. Sex Pistols and Minor Threat both sound different, Nirvana sounds different as well. It ain't Country, Disco, or Jazz., that's for sure.
Older country and jazz bands all have their own distinct character. Punk bands started to all sound the same in the 90s with Blink 182 and Green Day. It happens to every genre eventually.

"Nirvana: Taking Punk to the Masses" I agree with 100%. Nirvana not Offspring or Green Day started next boom on punk rock in '90s. And hardcore punk bands like Agnostic Front, Sick Of It All and melodic punk bands like NOFX, Bad Religion helped also build strong position for punk in 1990's.

Nobody around here calls it Grunge. Mark Arm said it as a joke and people in their infinite wisdom ran with it. The music scene that rooted itself in the Northwest at the time took inspiration from SST signed punk/hardcore bands that toured there in the 80s. It's among other things like garage rock and early metal, deeply rooted in punk. Ask the fucking Melvins. Nirvana is melodic punk rock. Get over it. Watch the documentary Hype! on YT and get educated. Probably the greatest music doc ever.

Wow, 17 years on and you can tell he still doesn't really talk about Kurt much.
You can see why he quite the public domain after 1994, when you're that close to someone with the many problems, for so long, it must be hard not to wonder what you could do differently.
Clearly a lot of emotion still going on there!

Dave Grohl already had a solid musical history when he joined Nirvana. Kurt hailed Dave a the greatest rock drummer ever when he joined. There is no doubt that playing in a band with Kurt had a huge influence on Dave, but Dave did write and play ALL the songs on the first Foo Fighters album and then went on to have twenty years of success as one of the biggest rock bands in the world today. You don't go on to have that kind of success JUST because you were in a band with Kurt Cobain!
