    I got to meet Chad back in December, 2017. It was right after Christmas. His family was with him, and I was with friends whom had crossed over on the ferry with him and had no idea who he was, but I did. It was a fanboy moment for me, and I didn't want to disrupt his family time. My friends convinced me that it was ok to approach Chad and so I did. He couldn't have been cooler. My only regret was I knew of his band, but I couldn't think of the name as I was star struck. I know Dave is known as the nicest guy in Rock and Roll, but really Chad deserves that nod. A very stand-up guy!

      Dave’s had a lot of drama behind the scenes especially with former Foo members and his relationship with skirt near the end but Chads always seemed to just love life!

    i feel like chad gets so little credit. dave grohl mentioned that chad made up most of the drum parts during nirvana's induction to the rock n roll hall of fame and no one seemed to give a shit. those drum parts are so iconic it'd be like a guitarist getting credit for another guitarist song.

    • @donnix6931

      The fascinating thing is Chad said, in a radio podcast, that it was flattering that Dave stuck with his drum parts -- it's interesting that Dave added that extra kick drum beat on the verses on In Bloom (which sounds better than the Chad version, imo), and here, Chad is playing those extra kick note beats. A nice nod from Dave to Chad, and from Chad to Dave.

    • @esspeez

    • @esspeez
      @esspeez 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Are you mad? I already stated in my first comment that Chad wrote the beat. Then Grohl copied it but tweaked it slightly by adding an extra kick drum in the verses. Chad just played KICK SNARE, KICK SNARE. Whereas Grohl changed it to KICK KICK SNARE, KICK KICK SNARE. And Now Chad is playing it Dave Grohls way. If you can't hear that, then at the risk of sounding patronising, you shouldn't be commenting on things you don't know about with such conviction.

      Ayie Coburn
      That movie is heartbreaking especially the opening with little Kurt Cobain singing as a child! Knowing what his fate was later makes that scene painful to watch! No wonder Chad doesn’t want to see it. Also, I heard Dave doesn’t want to see it either for the same reason! It’s just too painful! And then, in addition, the teenage Kurt trying to commit suicide by the Railroad tracks! Imagine if he had guessed right and died then. All the music we would not have gotten later. I’m grateful he lived as long as he did and we got what we got. The music will live on forever! I just wish he wasn’t in such a rush to die so quickly. 27 is way too young an age to die! But then Amy Winehouse was in a hurry to go too! So I guess it happens that way sometimes!

    Ok but chad was only featured in the intro of The In Bloom video and then when Chad left, Dave Grohl jumped in and re-recorded the drum demo of in bloom that chad played on and then released it on Nevermind and Dave Grohl famously played it live. So yes although Chad wrote and played on the intro to the video, Dave Grohl actually played in bloom live at Reading ‘92 and in the alternative video.

    • @evanfairlie8830
      @evanfairlie8830 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No actually I was wrong Dave Grohl played on the 1992 version of the In Bloom video and Chad played on the alternative version of In Bloom.

      Also, Jack Endino, the producer of Bleach and Intensicide has said in various interviews that Chad has a more slow-moving, fun, shaky and simple drum sound and Dave #2 (meaning Dave Grohl) has a more intense, powerful, and hard-hitting and fast drum sound that’s why in the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” music Dave Grohl goes crazy hitting the drums.

    I feel like chad is only a hired drummer of nirvana that time .. its seems liked his not really been attach to the band.. but his drumming skills have really been a big impact to the band and made a mark of nirvana's style..

      To say Pat Smear was a member of Nirvana is like saying that I am a member of Queen. He toured with them for extra guitar parts and then did a couple of interviews for them. And even in those, he was just some wanker clinging on trying to act weird.

    20 something years after nirvana, chad is probably burnt out on the nirvana thing. I feel like hes been trying to do his own thing or different things since he parted ways with the dudes. And almost every interview hes been in since then they bring up nirvana and only talk about nirvana. Chad is his own artist man, if i interviewed him id make a point to NOT mention nirvana at all. hes worked hard to create music after nirvana, nd it bums me out to always see some random journalist pound him with questions about something he was part of 20 30 years ago. Like ask the dude about HIM not kurdt fucking kobane.....ALTHOUGH he seems aye oh fucking kay talkin about all of that.

  • @steveshomo5202

    Underrated drummer.. his parts were really intricate and less straight-forward. No question Kurt and Chris made the right decision when all was said and done... but Chad Channing was a fantastic drummer... just didn't fit what Nirvana wanted to evolve into.
