I can't believe that it was Taker's idea for the newcomer Maven to eliminate The Undertaker from the Rumble in order to turn Taker into Big Evil (Heel Biker) which had a VERY SUCCESSFUL RUN
Maven comes across as a genuinely good dude that is thankful for his time in the career he wanted, and thankful that he got out with his faculties intact. Good on him.
I loved their expressions in that bit. Taker had this perfect look of “I’m gonna ****ing kill this little punk.” And Maven’s look was pure “oh god, I’m about to die.”
I love that maven is having a second chance at this as he wasn't thrilled with how his career ended. And he is killing it. And giving to charity to boot. Doing some great things

They sold that perfectly in the moment. Maven was just the only one who wasn't acting. Can you blame him? Most of the roster was genuinely afraid of Mark. He didn't have pull in the company just because he's smart and sells his character perfectly, he seriously is a scary guy if you set him off and is badass enough to back it up. Of all wrestling legend hall of famers, I think Undertaker would be the first to earn a double legend status if it ever existed. There isn't a single wrestling fan who does not know who Undertaker is. Even while retired, he's still the face of WWE (or WWF if you're old like me) as far as I'm concerned. If you agree, give me a "hell yeah".
That was the beauty of it too, no doubt about it. Maven had JUST won Tough Enough not too far before it. That was the aura for him in the match with Booker too.
He said he did have some announcer/commentator tryouts with WWE but this was when the pandemic was just about to hit everyone hard, and they had to drop any plans.
Yea turning Taker heel didn't go like they thought. There were more cheers then boos when he was heel. Taker would even insult the crowd and they loved it.
I absolutely remember watching that when Maven eliminated Taker from the Rumble, my first thought was "Oh shit, that kid is D.E.A.D!" Then Maven celebrated in the ring for a few seconds, and then he realised what he did and just how screwed he was! Then the legendary beatdown followed! Good Times!
As of writing this, these are 2 of my favorite wrestlers. I'd love to see you guys come back for a "pay per view" ( I know the network probably calls them something else now). I know it wouldn't be a full match, but when Taker came back for Wrestlemania 40, I was floored. I LOVED that moment. And while I know Maven isn't really in the ring anymore, I would love to get one more chance to see each of you. What I love is this spot happening again in the 2003 Royal Rumble, but this time with Undertaker as a face, and Kane just shaking his head and laughing. Great call back, and I love when that happens in the Rumble. 2003 is one of the most underrated Rumbles there's been.

I think it's because Maven is from the south. I have a friend also from Tennessee and he has similar mannerisms, accent and similar "lingo". Some parts in the south have a "gentil" & polite way of speaking.

It just shows who's confident in themselves and who isn't. Hulkamania 1.0 ran from 1985 till 1990 (yes, I know he still had matches from 1991 till 1993 but people were sick of him by then) and he had to go to a different company in order to get SOME kind of pop from a crowd and even then it was a nostalgia run for three years until he formed the n.W.o in 1996, which got tiresome after 2 years. So from 1998 till 2001, everyone was sick of him again. And even when Hulkamania 2.0 happened between 2002 and 2004, it was just another nostalgia run that died after 6 months but was milked to death again Undertaker never had to go to a different company in order to get a great reaction, he never did the same thing for very long, he went from a western mortician to a phantom of the opera type to a satanic cult leader to a biker to a Brandon Lee crow type without the face paint to a Goth to a hybrid of all of the above. He didn't need to win, he didn't need to always be a hero, he tried out new moves and is still beloved and respected to this very day
2002 royal rumble was one of the best, even if it had a predictable winner. That elimination was crazy, no one saw that coming. Sometimes the phrase “anything can happen in the WWE” is absolutely true 😂 Honestly can’t believe it’s been 22 years since that happened and we still talk about it. All the credit in the world for Maven, stepping up to deliver that moment. Imagine the pressure, he stepped up to the mark and absolutely smashed it 👍🏻👍🏻
It's one of my favourite sequences. Everything anyone needs to know about professional wrestling is there. From eliminating the Hardys to the dropkick and its consequences, everything and everybody was perfect.

My friend and i absolutely popped off while watching it live at the restaurant where we caught the PPV. We were convinced for weeks that it was a mistake, wasnt supposed to happen that way, and that Taker was furious.

Nah you need to rewatch it, the first part is indeed stale, but the rest of it is great. One of the best rumbles in my opinion.
The hallmark of a great story, is that it continues to be told long after the events are over and continues to generate interest.
