Have you ever had any of these products? What are your thoughts?? 🙂🙂🙂🙂 What should we try next?!
Had some gingerbread popcorn recently, so different flavors of popcorn?
@@nukasnook1561 that sounds amazing 😁😁😁😁
Cadburys boost bar try it 😮😮awesome
Just a warning: try not to be left alone in a room with a box of Matchmakers mint chocs. If you like them, you'll end up eating the whole box. Then you have to pretend to your family that the box is 'lost'.
@@mehitabel6564 so go outside with them then? We will eat less? Might give it a go.
I made matchmakers for many years in York, before Nestle closed down the factory to make it in to apartments. The crunchy part is a boiled sweet with flavouring, ground into crystals. When we did mint flavouring days (We had orange and mint at the time) people would start crying when they met you in the corridor because the mint was so strong. The chocolate is also a mix of milk and dark chocolate.
Thank you for your service, Jimmy! 😋
God bless you Jimmy. God bless you.
Oh Guys, didn't the fact that the Matchmaker box said 'honeycomb' give you a clue as to what was inside ? Quality Street is a collection of toffees, chocolates and other sweets, first manufactured in 1936 by Mackintosh's in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. For some reason, it was named after a play 'Quality Street'. It's sold in either boxes or tins. Nestlé took over production in 1988
Honestly, we just assumed it was honeycomb flavored 😅😅😅😅 And oh cool!! Thanks for that tidbit of info! 😁😁😁😁
Two of my aunts used to work for them before the last war. When they started they were told for the first week they could eat as much chocolate and sweets as they wanted!!! Needless to say they only managed a few days before they were Sick of it 😂😂😂😂
@BLANKSnooneaskedfor try making honeycomb ... it's fun! We call it Hokey Pokey in NZ. We have a Crunchie bar ... in Australia too ... and we put it in our ice cream.
I don't think honey comb is really a food thing in the states, i doubt crunchies or anything equivalent are sold.
@@Jamie_D Americans do have honeycomb, but it's called cinder toffee over there !
You guys need to try After 8 Mints
Honeycomb AKA Cinder Toffee/Sea Foam/Puff Candy is made by making a caramel, and while still hot, adding Bicarbonate of Soda (Baking Soda), which causes it to bubble madly, then pouring into a lined tray to cool. It cools to a dry, crunchy texture and can be broken into chunks.
If you have tried a Cadbury Crunchie bar, it's also the filling of that. If you haven't tried it, I recommend it.
If I recall correctly, Mint Matchmakers are made by mixing peppermint oil directly into the chocolate, and then adding small sugar crystals into the mix for crunch (and Orange Matchmakers are made the same way just with orange oil instead).
Ahhhh yeah that makes total sense about the Mint Matchmakers...definitely a strong Mint flavour!! 😁😁😁😁
Ness Lay used to be called Ness els in the UK. In the 80s they changed the way it was pronounced in TV commercials.
That#
's because they are ba French company but the name was changed to Nestles for the UK.
Pontefract is a place in England. Its actually in Yorkshire.
Matchmakers are very popular at Christmas. Always had the mint ones.
They were SOOOOO good 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Funny point, when I was a kid in UK in the 1970s it was always pronounced Nes-alls. It was only in the 80's, or somewhere around there if I remember that it was changed to nest-lay. Just to add to this Matchmakers used to come in coffee flavour too. I miss them. Bring them back please Nestle.
So Zack isn't 100% wrong 😅😂🤣😆
No far from it.@@BLANKSnooneaskedfor
Try black jacks
After eight mint chocolate is lovely though.
Will have to see if we can find those 😁😁😁😁
8 your time or ours ? 😉😜
@@OohhMyDaysItsJosh Any time 😉
The confusion is that Pontefract cakes do actually taste like liquorice, but a lot of black liquorice candies have aniseed added so you've probably only tasted liquorice with aniseed added before, liquorice tea is delicious. Matchmakers were one of those things we'd always have at xmas as a kid, back then there was only two flavours mint and orange and I always loved them. My favourite mint candy if you ever come across them are called Bendicks Bittermints, they're like a thick round and very strong soft mint patty coated in a thin layer of very bitter dark chocolate, also there is another mint confectionary called Kendal Mint Cake which I'd love to see you try, it's eaten a lot by mountaineers as an old skool energy bar, as it's basically just a block of peppermint flavoured sugar, all hiking shops sell it in the UK, the first expedition to summit Everest famously took some with them.
Well...learn something new every day! 😁😁😁😁
I'm literally sat with a box of Bendicks mints now, there's four types of chocolates in the box and the Bittermint is the most potent. I was just sat here laughing thinking I wish I could pass some through the screen to these guys because as good as MatchMakers are, they're weak compared to Bittermints.
@@ProMooch A box of just Bittermints can last me days, it's another thing I like about them, you just nibble one occasionally, they're not the sort of thing where you scoff the whole box in an evening, I love the texture of them too.
@@markjones127 That's absolutely true, I'm a chocoholic but they can't be scoffed. The box I have has four types and I sort of work my way up to the Bittermints, even the dark chocolate is 95% cocoa solids which is mega.
I might start buying them more frequently actually because it'll make me cut down on my chocolate intake.
We always have After Eights at Xmas, but I do love mint Matchmakers 🙂
Guys you're eating a matchmaker honeycomb, your saying what's in this, is it honey, it has a crunch, I'm shouting at the screen at midnight with a fat spliff shouting at the TV it's Honeycomb! Haha only found you guys few days ago and binge watched so much of you, you are awesome
Hahahaha sometimes we're not the brightest crayons in the box 🤣😂🤣😂 We really appreciate the support, glad you found us!! 🤙🤘👏🎉
Honeycomb main ingredients are typically brown sugar (or corn syrup, molasses or golden syrup) and baking soda, sometimes with an acid such as vinegar. The baking soda and acid react to form carbon dioxide which is trapped in the highly viscous mixture
Pontefract do have a castle!
Hey that's cool!!
A castle I wanna visit ! ! !
@@OohhMyDaysItsJosh We have so many castles in the British Isles! I think there's more in Welsh Wales though..
The way you say Haribo 😂 it's Pronounced HarryBO Cmon guys 😊
Hahahahah we pronounce all sorts of words weird 🤣😂🤣😂
Other than the hockey pucks HarryBo is the greatest !
Collections to try: Heroes, Celebrations, Roses, Quality Street. You'll get just about every common chocolate in them...
Have you tried "After Eight Mints"?
We haven't tried any of those actually!! Sounds like we have a list next time we go to our "local dealer" 🤣😂🤣😂 Thanks a ton!!
I couldn't find Celebrations anywhere when I went to do my Xmas shopping so just got Quality Street, Roses and Heroes. Noticed that they have got smaller yet again this year with only Quality Street not falling below 600g. Btw, most people usually buy these to last over the Christmas period because they are good for sharing with the whole family and when friends come around to visit.
@@B-A-L Heroes are Cadbury, Celebrations are Mars, Quality Street is Nestlé and Roses are Cadbury again...
I bought a 2.4Kg (5.2lb) Celebrations box for Christmas at about £20 (in the UK).
Personally I find Heroes too much.
Quality Street is just not my taste.
Roses are OK but there very much the soft centre chocolate selection...
@@daveofyorkshire301You can tell Roses and Heroes are Cadbury's because they come in exactly the same style tub and they've made all the wrappers the same style too in order to save money for their American owners!
The honey cone in the matchmakers is what we call cinder toffee.
Like the crunchie bar. Just loads of little pieces
"What's in there?" Dude read the box! lol.
Almost, but not quite guys - it's not "Ness-lee", it's "Ness-lay".
We'll get it right one day 🤣😂🤣😂
I’ll be dipped in nesslee chocolate …
@@BLANKSnooneaskedfor
In my opinion:
❤Orange and chocolate❤... And
❤Mint and chocolate❤... And
❤ *Coffee* and chocolate❤ _are_ _the_ *BEST* flavours _EVER_. ❤😊🏴🇬🇧🖖
The Salted Caramel Matchmakers are amazing
Okay, we've got to find those now 😲😲😲😲
I hate those ones 😢😢😢😢😢
Pontefract is where I live. King Richard 2 was murdered in Pontefract castle. In ruins now, the castle was Henry the 8th's favorite northern stronghold. Anne Bolynn, his 2nd wife and mother of Elizabeth 1st, was also accused of commiting adultery at Pontefract, leading to her conviction and execution by beheading, at the Tower of London
I was brought up calling it Nestle and not Neslay.
So what’s it correct to you ?
The advertisements for Milky Bar used to pronounce it as Nestles back in the 70's and 80's. I don't know when the pronunciation changed.
Matchmaker are lush being i love a Matchmaker
🎉🎉🎉🎉
I’m down with the lushy goodness !
Try after eight mint chocolate if you like them!,
Nestle was the correct pronunciation from the early 60s til the late 80's. Which explains why we still pronounce it that way.
Pontefract cakes were actually made in pontefract west Yorkshire about 8 miles from where I live . Haribo is a big sweet factory in pontefract. You can smell the sweets as you pass it 😊
Pontefract has A famous Haunted house . 30 East Drive, Where The Black Monk of Pontefract resides reportedly
Okay but how cool is that?! 🤙😁😎👍
Quality Street is the name of a selection of individually wrapped chocolates and toffees sold in boxes or a large tin. A tin of Quality Street is traditionally bought at Christmas in the UK. The alternative being a tin of Cadburys Roses which doesn't include any toffees.
Matchmakers Mint I always have mainly at christmas, speaking of Christmas you should react to the London New years fireworks we go all out over here.
Yeah thanks!! We're currently looking for reaction recommendations so that's perfect! 😁😁😁😁
You guys need to try a tin of Quality Street Chocolates & Toffee, ask your Brit Fix guys to find themmmmm. I am amazed the Pontifrat cakes weren’t strong in flavour, I wonder if they’ve been tamed down over the years. Oh boy you’ve reminded me of what I’ve been missing all these years… I’ve been I Canada almost 50 years my mouth is watering…the Orange shape is definitely part of the experience 😊
Mint matchmakers are far more common...
They were delightful!!
Give me the honeycomb !
@@OohhMyDaysItsJosh I have to say I've never had it, so I can't compare.
Nestlé reed diffuser 😂😂😂
Take my money !
Orange flavour chocolate is like having marmite you either hate it or you love it
2:34 I think he means Crunchie and he's completely correct, that's chocolate and honeycomb
You guys have made my day 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
If you ever get round to trying Yorkie chocolate bars, there's an old joke that goes with them, especially when they were originally made by Terry's of York. (they're made by Nestlé now, I think)
They called them Yorkies because they're made in York!
Thank god they don't make them in Goole!! 🤣
(Goole is another town, not too far from York, in the north of England. The idea of having a chocolate bar called 'Goolie' wouldn't work in the UK, as 'goolies' is an old slang term for testicles, and NOBODY'S gonna want to chomp down on THOSE!!)🤣
Do you guys have a PO box so we can send you things like big tubs of quality street?
That's incredibly kind of you ❤️❤️❤️❤️ We're actually in the process of getting one!! We'll post to Community soon when it's active 😁😁😁😁
Hurry up I want some QS! 😉😋
I dunno if you guys are looking for reccomendations but I see you don't do a huge amount of savoury/salty snacks and I love Savoury snacks so thought I would drop a list of my favourites for inspiration.
Niknaks - Cheeto like chips (Crisps) that come in 3 flavours, Nice n Spicy (Most popular), Rib n Saucy, Scampi n Lemon (My favourite)
Mini cheddars - Little cheesy crackers, kinda like goldfish but IMO far superior, Also comes in a bunch of flavours.
Bombay mix - Mixture of peanuts, pulses and dried noodles coated in a mildly spicy curry spice mix.
Smiths fries - Hard deep fried chips (Crisps) popular in pubs, comes in two flavours, Bacon and Scampi.
Hula hoops - Crunchy Potato snacks, come a variety of flavours but honestly the best part about them is their texture.
Kettle Crisps - Hand cooked Crisps, crunchier and more "Home style" than walkers (Lays), comes in a Variety of flavours but my favourite is Sea Salt and Balsamic Vinegar.
Lancashire Crisps - A brand that I doubt you'll be able to get hold of but I had to add them coz they are amazing. From my home county, like Kettle Crisps but a little lighter, not as hard. Comes in a variety of flavours, Salt, Salt n vinegar, cheese and onion, the Usual but also have some wierder flavours, my favourite of which is Black Pudding flavour.
Pickled Onion Monster munch - I know you have tried them before but I love them so had to add them here.
Basically all British cheese is delicious and, no offence, 1000x better than their American counterparts.
Scotch eggs - Hard boiled egg (But runny yolk for best results) wrapped in sausage meat, breaded and deep fried, best eaten with HP Sauce.
Sausage rolls - Sausage meat wrapped in puffed pastery and baked until golden brown, Perfect midday lunch.
Added some non-shippable snack type things at the end, not sure you will be able to get them near you but worth a try if you can.
DEFINITELY are looking for recommendations and have added most these to our list as we haven't tried the majority of them!! 😁😁😁😁 Thanks so much for the in depth assortment!!!
I think this is the first time I've seen yanks enjoy orange in chocolate.
First time for everything! 🤣😂🤣😂
If you love mint, see if you can get some benedicts mints from your dealer.
The matchmakers tell you what is inside, its honeycomb!!!
We just thought it was honeycomb flavored 😅😅😅😅 Oops
It said honeycomb on the box,and they're asking what's in it....very strange.
Good video tho.
Haribo is a German Company. I recently got Terry's Orange Truffles, gorgeous ❤
Oh wow Terry's Chocolate Orange in truffle form?! 🤤🤤🤤🤤
Terry's was King at Christmas when I was a kid Terry's Gold, top of list, but can't find these days@@BLANKSnooneaskedfor
Haribo bought out Dunhills of pontefract, and Dunhills still produces the gummy bears they are known for. Although it's under the haribo brand.
I'm confused as to why your confused what's inside the honeycomb matchmaker. It's honeycomb? 😂
We pretty much stay confused, definitely "user error" 🤣😂🤣😂
I believe Americans sometimes know it as cinder toffee.
@@stevefrost64 oddly enough, we've not actually heard of that either!!
When we go to a fun fair here in England you can find big chunks of honeycomb covered in chocolate from the same stool you would buy your candy floss/sweets

Love Pontefract Cakes.
those Matchmakers are just essentially super skinny crunchie bars but a different company
We haven't had the Crunchie yet, but it has been purchased to try soon!!

Def agree with you there !
Maybe they shpuld some of the almost regional sweets and chocolate they sell in the UK. Tablet from Scotland, or Kendall Mint Cake (used as an energy snack by hikers)
If you guys like Chocolate and Mint you should try After Eights. Also Frys Chocolate Cream, Orange Cream and Peppermint Cream would be awesome.
MOOO! Where's the fourth member of the herd? Did you eat him for your New Year dinner? Btw, Pontefract is a town in England near the city of Leeds in the Northern part of England. Also, I've noticed a lot of people commenting on how you haven't review any of the big four tubs of chocolates, i.e. Celebrations, Heroes, Roses and Quality Street but it's kind of too late now because most people only buy them at Christmas to share with the family and guests and to review them now would make most people sick of seeing them! They are usually sold towards the build up to Christmas so you only have to wait till September to do a review of them!
Hahahahaha he'll be back in 2 weeks time!! 😁😁😁😁 Then we will be complete again!! And ahhhh okay got it, makes sense...thanks!! 🐮🐮🐮🐮
Sniggers at you guys not knowing that Matchmakers Honeycomb has Honeycomb 😂
They have done some limited edition flavours too. But the coffee one was lovely and I really liked the gingerbread flavour but you cant get either anymore which is a shame! 😒
Hahahaha leave it to us 🤣😂🤣😂 We can be a bit clueless from time to time 😆😆😆😆
What is inside?! It’s ON THE BOX! HONEY COMB
I’m with you…chocolate and orange should never be combined. Together they give me a migraine 😮
Haribo... Pronounced Harry bow 😊
if you like them try the crunchy bar its the same product but much bigger xxx
I dont get the hatred for liqourice, I love the stuff.
Different strokes for different folks! Certain brands of licorice I don't mind, but others are just not my fav 😅😅😅😅
Wish I loved it promise!
@@OohhMyDaysItsJosh Hey man, each to their own. It may be a cultural thing, I mean there are some brits the don't like Liqourice but it seems Americans disproportianately despise it. Could be that there arn't as much Liqourice products in the US as there are in the UK or the stuff you have is flavoured or made differently so it's not a flavour Americans are as used to. I dunno really, just find the differences in our cultures and tastes realy interesting, it's why I love this Channel. It's fun to see the things you think we do well and the things about our food you don't like.
Plus they work as a laxative!....@@BLANKSnooneaskedfor
If you liked the Matchmaker peppermint sticks, wait until you eat Elizabeth Shaw version. Much superior in my opinion
You need to try the orange matchmakers👍
I'm guessing honeycomb isn't a thing America. The best flavour matchmakers is zingy Orange followed by caramel coffee
I'm sure it is somewhat, but not a common chocolate / sweets flavor here 😅😅😅😅 We have Honeycombs cereal though! 🤣😂🤣😂
The honeycomb matchmakers, I like more then the mint one and the honeycomb in matchmakers and areo honeycomb taste to me like either golden syrup or treacle what to find in a Parkin Cake
We actually just purchased some Honeycomb Aero to try soon!! Can't wait!!
i dont understand how haribo has become so popular, as you said like chewing a tyre
Their own adverts used to pronounce it Nestles as you pronounced it until quite recently, when the added the "lay" on the end. Did you have the Milky Bar Kid Adverts"?

Black liquorice is for old people
We got a saying in Lancashire regarding those on t’other side of the Pennines, ‘Yorkshire born and Yorkshire bred, strong in’th arm but weak in’th head’. Imagining that Pontefract cakes are anything but horrible, kind of confirms what we thought.
