I know this is an older video now, I just wanted to say I am doing the same thing on my 2024 CX30. I am just about to hit 1500 miles and going to do the first oil change, then do them around every 5000 after that.
I have seen lots of videos talk about break in, and doing an early oil change. First I thought I was not going to bother, but during the first 500 miles I felt the engine get a smoother and smoother as I drove. Part of that was probably the computer learning how to shift for me, but certainly I feel the engine runs better.
So for me that means the engine did break in during the first few hundred. So it will not hurt to change out the oil and filter to make sure it's not circulating anything nasty. We will see if the car is still running like a champ at 100k miles I will be sure to pat myself on the back and give myself all the credit for changing early and often. :P

Owners manual for CX-30 Turbo says to use regular engine oil, non-synthetic. I noticed you filled it with synthetic oil. Do you think synthetic works better?

I think a good synthetic oil for this car is good because it has a turbo charger I wouldn't personally use conventional oil in this engine. I also only use 93 octane gas when filling it up. Thank you for the comment.

Thanks for the video! Do you definitely recommend going OEM with the filter? And how has that oil treated you?
And yeah I noticed the turbo is sneaky. Manual says it needs 5.1L. so gotta buy 2 bottles....

OEM with filter doesn't hurt only because its designed for vehicle by Mazda so I don't see any harm in that as opposed to an aftermarket filter. That liqui moly oil is great I buy it from FCPEURO so its free oil changes for life. The bottle itself does say approved for Mazda as well. Its the 5w-30 molygen. Yea the 5L bottle didn't cover it to full capacity but next oil change I'll get an extra bottle just to be sure I have enough. Thanks for the comment.

you mentioned that "they" said to change the oil in the first 1,000 miles. who is "they" ? ... mazda designed and built the car, they do not recommend this. are you saying that mazda is incorrect? thanks.

"They" would be mechanic friends of mine and also car enthusiasts. The oil is the blood of the engine. As I stated in the DIY episode that metal is in the mating period when it comes to a brand new vehicle. Since the engine is brand new you would want to change the first initial oil from the factory after about 500 to 1500 miles many of my car enthusiasts friends said any metal shavings that would come off is within the first 500 miles so I chose 1000 only because majority of them say 1000. Hope that answers the question. Mazda recommended intervals are fine but for me 5k even with synthetic is my limit only due to the oil filter not being up to par with the oil. The oil will last longer but the filter doesn't. Thank you for your comment. Please subscribe if you haven't done so already.

Yes for the first initial oil change not for every oil change.
