The woman has turned crippling social anxiety into a goldmine. I was listening to her on the Mike Birbiglia podcast, and she said she goes out there and her mind turns into loud static, and this is what comes out of her mouth.

Aubrey only sounds weird, because that is what being honest sounds like. Most people are so used to lying, deceit, bullshit, and insincerity all the time that someone being real is off-putting.
actually she said "no, I'm a total people pleaser and it's something I'm dealing with in therapy" which means that she has a high degree of agreeableness and is likely undergoing assertiveness training. She has a problem with buying into the whole "im a star" persona, which she views as fake and makes her anxious, so to combat that she stays present in the moment and uses humor so as to not take herself so seriously. Which is a recipe for being a more authentic human being
Her timing is immaculate. I don’t think she actually makes anyone uncomfortable. She is just anti-swarmy. She is so honest that she’s open to being funny by being slightly difficult. Of course she would hate a bunch of fake people pretending to act like they know everything.
Aubrey Plaza is the weirdest celebrity chick out there, but for some reason she’s sexy as hell being her weird, uncomfortable self. She’s gorgeous, quirky, sweet and totally hilarious.
Stephen Colbert talks frequently about how much he loves being put in awkward situations and trying to work with them or work his way out of them, so Aubrey Plaza as a guest on his show is a match made in heaven

I don’t know about you guys but she seems to have gotten a lot more comfortable in interviews over the years with more experience. She seems a lot more capable of plugging whatever movie or project she’s promoting without feeling weird or “fake”. Who do you think interviews her the best? When she started out in her early 20s she was entertaining but visibly nervous on Letterman (which is understandable since he’s intimidating to a lot of guests).
