      Oh, I believe that Fil will be found guilty of conspiracy since he knew his wife kidnapped OP's son. As for the two brothers, they were removed and placed with the Aunt. So that means both are facing serious jail time for kidnapping and conspiracy. I also would venture that they are also facing child abuse and neglect charges for the brothers, serious enough to warrant their removal from Mil & Film's custody. Also, if they are involved in some kind of religious cult, then the abuse and neglect will most likely stick. Hopefully, OP and her hubby can possibly get custody of her minor brothers, and give them a much better life.

      Story 2
      I want to agree, but I can't. I don't know people's situations and how long they've been in need. Things like clothes, shoes, electronics could be from before they ended up in their current situation. Misfortune can be similar to getting injured or sick--everything's fine until it suddenly isn't. If you have an iphone and are asking me for food, I have no idea when you got that iphone, if you're responsible for the bill, or if you're a day away from it being disconnected. My POV is yeah you probably should have a way of contacting people/jobs. Good.
      With that said, if you're showing signs of taking advantage of my kindness, then nah, piss off. Otherwise if I'm gonna help you, I'm gonna help you. What you do with that help (in the case of giving money) is your decision. I'm not here to change your life, but I can do something helpful, and hopefully that help snowball into something more for you.

    Some people need to either get a reality check or go back to living in a cave with the rest of the forgotten neanderthals because if you believe you can still dictate your kid's life even when they're a grown adult, to the point where you try to teach them a lesson by kidnapping their children, you're not ready to join us normal people and you need to screw off from society altogether!

Eventually the bum leg caused him to fall and I INSISTED the medics take him in (I'd moved back home to try'n save him from himself) and whaddya know, his heart was about kaput and he was riddled with clots. Clots that were the root cause of that bum leg, since his muscles couldn't get enough oxygen to work right; clots that were also why he was so short of breath, because the largest concentration was in his lungs. Seriously, when he was in the ICU his heart was blatantly much, much weaker than many of the people who didn't make it out. The man died a while back and so it's just the elderly woman. Since father/grandfather isn't in the picture to put his foot down anymore my sister says their family is divided in half. Half does things for and wants the best for their mother/grandmother while she's still alive. The other half are a bunch of vultures greedily waiting on her to die. The sad thing is that the person that has power of attorney at the moment is on the vulture side. My sister said it's to the point that everyone that legitimately cares for the woman is being shunned out to the point they're not allowed at the woman's house unless asked an approved in advance and is supervised by one of the vultures. The thing is my sister got close to the family and to the man while he was alive. He knew and predicted that something like this would happen once he died. My sister knows what some of the things was on his Will and some won't take effect till after mom/grandmother dies. So due to my sister knows partly what's on the Will she knows the upcoming rude awakening that WILL happen that a lot of those vultures will not like at all.
    It's like I grew up in a family that didn't have lots of money. We wasn't broke but we didn't live out of our means. When my grandmother died and my aunts, uncles, dad asked us grandchildren if we wanted something lots of people was going after lots of different things. The only things I asked for was this wooden foot/back massager and the bird feeder that hung outside my grandmother's kitchen window because I loved watching the birds come to it every time we would visit.

    He frequently sees beggars ar various locations, but if their hair is clean and neatly trimmed, their clothes are clean and in good repair, they themselves are clean, and their shoes are clean (the beggars with sparkling white sneakers enrage him) and look nearly new, the odds are that they probably have more money than we do.
    The ones he feels are legit? He'll go to a fast food place, get coffee and a meal, then circle around to that person to offer the bag of food. If they happily accept it and thank him, he'll often add some cash. I have seen a few break into tears at this. Knowing that there is really nothing more we can do for them, I have often cried, myself. However, he's had a rare few who've refused it, demanding money instead. To those, he has a few choice words, and he'll drive off, food and all.

    I’ve been thinking about this and I’m sure you all can give me some good judgment:
    I used to work as a cashier at a dollar store and theft was a huge problem for us. As usual with any retail job, if something gets stolen *I* would be blamed for allowing it, which is as stupid as it sounds.
    This older lady comes to the checkout and as I was ringing her up, she said she wanted to show her friend a bottle of cleaner I guess to see if she wanted it. Her friend was in her car by the doorway so that means she could step out with the product she didn’t pay for.
    What I did was stand to the side behind her about ten feet away with my hands in my pockets just in case I needed to step in. The lady took great offense to this and told me that I was accusing her of being a thief. I apologized profusely and tried to explain myself but she wouldn’t have it. She then exclaims after finishing paying for her items (she decided she didn’t want the cleaner) that she will never shop at this store again.
    I turned to my manager who was there the whole time and asked if I handled the situation correctly. She didn’t care as she was doing counts on our cigarette stock.
    A few months later the older lady walked in and was in dismay that I was still working there. Apparently her friend talked her into returning since she assumed I was fired for the whole thing. The lady runs to my manager (same one as before) and complains to her in hopes that I would be fired, which didn’t happen. She claimed I tried to grab her and was right behind her that night…
    Anyway nothing happened to me but I still wonder how I should have dealt with that situation. So… in hindsight was I the a hole?

      First, to answer your question, no, you weren't the a-hole.
      But also, the being blamed if something gets stolen thing does sound stupid. I'm lucky that the place I work, being the family-owned Mom-&-Pop local gaming shop that it is, are very much there for their employees. Something that the owners drill into us is, "If you are being robbed, give them the money. We would rather lose a couple hundred dollars than have you lose a life."

      No, not the asshole, and this old lady is dumb. I would have let you my bag so you'd be sure I wasn't going to steal.
      People steal all the time it's nothing personnal

      @pshaw8406 ปีที่แล้ว

      You weren't an asshole but you were a pushover. You tell her she can pay for it first and then she can do whatever she likes with it. Never ever ever, knowingly, let someone leave the store without paying first. If she tried to leave with the item there's nothing you can do legally to step in, you would be liable for assault. And absolutely don't apologize for doing your job. She was an entitled b-ch

    #5: My ex's parents were convinced that any time a person was ill or hurt, it was God's punishment for some sin they'd committed. Innocent children were sick/hurt because of something their parents did. When we were divorced (I filed to get away from abuse) they repeatedly told me they prayed nothing happened to my children because of me. It gave me nightmares. But 40+ years later, I'm fine and my children are, too.

    Hey @DarkFluff, the last story, it was OP and HER wife. That was the whole point of it. MIL was upset because her daughter and DIL were married to one another because she thinks it is a sin to be gay.

    In the pub story, it is common place in Europe for strangers to share a table in a pub or even a restaurant. Found this out when I was stationed in Germany.

    Story 8: Growing up, my grandparents would babysit me whenever Mom and Dad were busy. This being Hurricane country, there was one time that my mom was a bit late for picking me up before the storm. One of my Great Aunts tried to convince Grammy to take me with them when they evacuated, but she wisely refused.
    She knew my Dad, her son, would have her arrested for kidnapping if she took me anywhere near the state line.
    Mom eventually came and picked me up, and my grandparents got in the car and evacuated right behind us.

      @lilyinthedark3159 ปีที่แล้ว

      @pshaw8406 clearly you don't know how evacuation works.
      In this day and age, we get at least a week's warning before the storm hits and have a decent idea of the path 3 days ahead of time.
      This is when you get out.
      If you don't get out before the 24-hour mark, then you better be ready to whether the storm cause you ain't gonna outrun it.

    I had a man answer the door when I was a papergirl I was about 9 and it was Sat. or payday for paper delivery. The came to the door stark naked. I ran to a nice lady customers house and called my Dad. He got my money and a big tip plus the guy could no longer have paper delivery. this was late '50 or early '60s.

      I'm often going commando in my own home, as I live alone. But I always pull on pants and t-shirt to answer the door, which happens rarely. I have no family or friends that visit. The two who do accasionally visit know to call first.
