Actually, he really should have filed a police report and contacted CPS. They literally witnessed a crime involving the abuse of a small child. A bit of yelling and them not coming back really is not a good enough response to that, and none of the people involved should have been satisfied with that resolution.
OP and the pastor really failed that child as much as the parents did, IMHO.

The church I was associated with pretty much accepted that their "Sunday School" was basically a free child-minding service. In return, any parent leaving their children there understood that the children would be taught religious beliefs and principles, and if they didn't want their children taught those things, then they needed to make other arrangements. The arrangement seemed to work well and so far as I know, is still working well.
Edit: But the story in the video sounds far too "pat" and I'm strongly suspicious that it was entirely made up, if not generated through an AI writer.

Several years ago (2015-ish), my family had come home late at night to see our dog sniffing at these 2 small, dark blobs in our yard. Turned out to be a pair of Pit Bull puppies that had a terrible case of mange. They had no fur and covered head to toe in scabs and sores. For the next couple days we took care of these puppies as well as took them to the vet to start treatment. After a couple days, a foster home was found that took the two of them as well as a third puppy in the same condition found in a different part of town. They were clearly all from the same litter which means someone went around town ditching sick puppies. Got to see them about a year later and they looked healthy and happy. They ended up being named after the Charmed sisters, Phoebe, Page, and Piper.

Yup, even if you don't hold pets in higher moral regard than other domesticated mammals with similar intelligence and sociability like cows and pigs, we should worry that someone gratuitously cruel to animals is a danger to humans too. This reminds me how a couple years back a cop in my area got busted running a dog fighting ring. Turns out, his policing record was littered with red flags, citizen complaints that never resulted in serious reprimand or firing. Instead, because police always take care of their own at the expense of the public, the "good cops" at his past departments had allowed this "bad apple cop" to quit with credentials intact instead of firing him for his egregious behavior against citizens. It wasn't until he was caught being cruel to animals that he was finally fired and prevented from policing humans anymore. SMH.

My dog isn't from trauma herself, she's actually a stray from a hurricane as far as we can tell. So original owners were never found and she was taken to a foster shelter here that specializes in finding dogs temporary families while also making sure that forever families are good enough to take care of the dog.
Many people are involved and it keeps dogs out of kennels who (like Darla, not the stories Darla, our dogs Darla.) have kennel anxiety. When we were fostering we saw a few dogs worse off and some were shy, all were loveable though and found good forever homes. Darla we fostered and immediately knew we wanted to keep her, sadly it did lead to us being unable to foster more dogs as she's dog aggressive. But she was all matted and pretty much needed to be shaved bald when we got her, she had heartworm and had to be kept on crate rest (bed rest, but for dogs) for 3 months, yes that sucked. She now went from underweight malnourished and sick. To well, a bit overweight from all our treats 😅. She's a white chow chow and is a great guard dog. She is loved by the kids who go for walks passed though because she always looks happy and is ALWAYS watching.

Baby at church story: OP, you or the youth pastor should have called the police for child abandonment. Truthfully, that should have been done within an hour or so of the early service ending. I wouldn't even think the service would have stayed available with the time between the early service ending and main service beginning being two hours. K should have spoken up much sooner.
Laptop story: Given how much even a CHEAP laptop costs, why would you let a complete stranger use it?
Monitor story: I'm willing to bet Karen and Damien have lost more than a few "friends" over similar incidents.
Fluff, it depends on just how much the monitor costs. Some can be rather expensive.
Dog story: OP, all I can say is thank you for doing such a great job! Unfortunately, "puppy mills" are a big business. It's much better to get a pet from a reputable breeder or reputable pet store or one the many shelters and rescue organizations than to use a puppy mill because of the "deal" you can get. I feel absolutely no sympathy for ED.
Texas story: Hmmm, I would have strongly considered looking into making a formal complaint about the judge misusing his authority. There are procedures for that. Nothing against OP, but I DO blame the judge. He protected his daughter from the consequences of her own actions, which I'm certain emboldened her and led to his own daughter's death. The ONLY good thing was that she didn't injure or kill anyone else in the process.

I ended up with a Pomeranian that was a rescue from a puppy mill. My stepbrother and his wife had agreed to foster her. But she kept trying to bite my teenage nephew. They gave her to my mother, who discovered that she was only snapping at people who tried to pick her up from above. I rather suspect that if police had gotten involved early on while trying to get it back the cops just might have told OP in the end that what they did was straight up stupid. Actually, I was half expecting the kid to spill a soda into the computer and then OP having an argument with the mother about paying for getting the computer fixed or replaced if the soda fried the computer. But, then, at 72 maybe I have more life lessons under my belt to know not to lend anything that I don't want potentially damaged or out right stolen. "Just let me buy it off you". Seriously? Laptops cost hundreds, in some cases even thousands, of dollars. If she had that kind of money on hand, she wouldn't need to steal a laptop for her kid. She could just go buy one. Also, laptops aren't just game machines, like she seemed to think. Handing over a laptop would be handing over a lot of personal things, from photographs, to email log-ins, to banking information and more, for many people. This is also why you don't let others use your electronic devices. Everything, even an actual console like Switch or PlayStation, is connected to a variety of online accounts.

The laptop story has been around for years, but DOES remind me of what just happened this weekend. I work as a crew chief with a stagehand labor company, and we had a big load out Sunday into Monday. It was fraught with extreme stupidity as no one wanted to get out of our way and is a tale unto itself. Now I had a bunch of new hands working, and one of these kids had all of her stuff in a plastic bag she put on top of a vending machine near where I kept my paperwork with my steward...I am a working chief so rarely stay in one spot at any given time, helping as needed. Anyway, she comes and asks if I had seen her bag. I hadnt, but told her check with security. I make a round of the arena and stop in to see what happened. There are cameras EVERYWHERE in this building, and security is very friendly with us. Clear as day, there is one of my loaders, first looking through the bag..and a few minutes later, he grabs it and puts it in his pack. Of course I grab him, take him into the office with my steward for a witness, and he pulls her bag out saying if she had asked, mhe woukd have returned it. I had over fifty people there on my crew, plus all the clients and production people, how the hell is ANYONE going to know who to ask? Yeah, hes fired in my eyes..stagehands do not have much, and DEFINITELY do not need to be preyed on by fellow stagehands.

While the last story is sad, it's something that she chose herself. Dad that enabling her just make matters worse. And knowing the fact that he had to bury his own daughter because his action will haunt him for the rest of his life.

A monitor is DEFINITELY worth going to small claims court over, especially an expensive one, like OP said. OP mentioned they have a lot of photos, which suggests they could be a photographer, and to have a monitor that is high quality for photo editing, and calibrated to be true-to-life can cost hundreds, even thousands of dollars.

That last story was a preventable tragedy in every way. I’m sure the moment the judge was asked to identify his daughter’s remains, I’m sure he realized a sh-tstorm was heading his way. The fact he had a double standard would immediately give every defendant that went before him on vehicle related charges a legitimate opportunity for appeal. That in turn would bring attention from the state bar association and judicial standards committee.

My friend and I had totally been known to leave our kids at church and go for brunch. We didn't go for the whole morning but we seriously needed that brunch. :)

Unfortunately some people see them as merely a commodity. Old mate was running a puppy mill after all.

Story 2: OP should know better by now!!! I have a soft spot for kids myself, but I'm not going to give their parents the slightest opportunity to F*** me over. THIS one, I'm afraid, is on the OP because they REALLY should know Karen better by now...

Story 4 as a dog owner, I’m so glad that Darla lived a long and happy life. 18 years is such a long time for a dog. She makes me think of my dog Stitch (named after Stitch from Lelo and Stitch). We’ve had her since she was a puppy and she is 16 now. But she’s doing really well for her age. Heck she doesn’t even look old at all, and barely has any gray on her. She gets walks regularly, She probably doesn’t have much time left, so we are doing the best we can to keep her comfortable. When your dog lives for so long, that bond is irreplaceable.
RIP Darla you will be missed and thank you for keeping OP happy.

Depending on the size and resolution of the monitor from story three it could easily be over $1000 for it

Absolutely. Computer monitors have a higher pixel density than TVs and the one in question had the equivalent resolution of a 4K UHD at least 50" in diagonal length.

I think the father probably regretted it for the rest of his life or will regret that he did what he did. Had he known what was going to happen he would have done things differently. But at least no one else got hurt from the accident.

Even a curved-screen hi-res monitor only goes for $80 to $150 at Best Buy; even less if you catch it on sale. Definitely not worth court costs.

Worth every penny of Karen costs though. Let them think they can get away with abusing your property and they will continue to treat your property and everybody else's like it doesn't matter if they damage it.

This is how I got my kitten Buttercup, someone through him out of their car going well over 65 on the highway. He recently passed away at the age of 10 and I miss him so much

My now ex boyfriend lived in the country, and while driving home from his house, a puppy ran across the back road in front of me. I stopped and scooped him up. Unlike Darla, this was a big lanky pup. When I got home, Mom would not let me keep him, but a quick phone call to my boyfriend's family resulted in his being allowed to live there. His name was Scotty. Hearing about a puppy in the road, my boyfriend's brother and wife went searching and found two more, soon to be Duke and Duchess. Sadly Scotty caught Parvo and died shortly thereafter, and Duke as well, but Duchess survived and became our dog. She lived longer than our relationship did, but I continued to share the costs of shots, fixing, and food with his family for the rest of her life.

Story 4: I feel like a just end for the entitled d-bag would be where he is fed to a pack of starving dogs as opposed to just being thrown out of a moving vehicle.
