This was quite a pain in the ass to do. Of course it looks SO EASY to do on this video. It did however, work really well! Thanks for making this video. Im pissed that I didnt find this video until AFTER I took my dash apart.
Love how Humble Rumble thought of the wire and Allen key details. Mine is a slight squeak, but I definitely want to fix it before it gets worse. And because it’s an annoying sound. Thanks for the install vid.

This is a great video! Saved me some money from paying someone else do it!
Finally manage to get to it. Had the 2 uppers blown and the far left of the bottom. The upper right was easy. The upper left has a bit of clearance issues with the metal behind it. Its not solid across but cuts off like 2/3rds up the hole to it quickly walked the bit once it hit. No problem, used a rough round file to bring the hole back down enough for the washer to clear. But then keep in mind, theres the insulation behind it. Had to really work at getting one hand up there to pull back the insulation enough to at the same time push the bolt past the insulation. It still only took about 2 hours and busted up 2 fingers... I should have used a lower torque drill LOL. Feels SO much better just backing her out of the garage.
You didn't add a pedal depress to show us that the squeaking stopped! Good DIY video though! Might have to pick up this kit if (I mean, when) I start having problems!
Yeah I realised that after I'd edited and exported the video. I can tell you though that it feels a lot more solid and any clicking or noise is gone. Also a lot less visible flex from the MC.

Mine started squeeking 2-3 days ago after i accidentally stalling the car while parked..still kicking myself about it as i havent stalled it for years since ive owned it.
Today the sound got louder while on the way to work.
In some other video they're saying just need to re-lubricate a dry rod entering a dry rubber housing above the gas pedal

Great video! How did you end up getting the bolt passed the carpet on the first one you did? I'm am currently working on the bolt beside it (the one closest to the passenger side) and I am having a hard time getting the bolt head passed the carpet. The carpet is very rigid and I have big hands, so I can't get enough leverage up there to get the bolt head through.

Redo the sealer around the fire wall bolt look around seam sealer is like a caulking bead not a gasket smear, think of it like your bathroom caulking smooth seams collect less dirt and last longer, "tool" it with you're finger tip and a little bit of spit

The carpet is really giving me a hard time. Didn't even think about pulling it back some
i have a creaking sound as well in my 2011 sti. but when i open the hood and tried to source where the sound is coming from, it sounded like its not from the firewall side but more towards the transmission area. will the sound travel there if its a firewall issue? i checked the welding spots it doesnt seem like there are cracks or failure marks.
May be the clutch slave cylinder
I want this kit. But concerned about the metal rusting in the drilled out spots in the long term... I feel like paint would flake off when I torque it down. Any suggestions 🤔
I didn't run into a problem with the paint flaking once torqued down. You could prep the surface before installing the bolts with a rust preventative like por 15.
Was gonna buy the kit but while doing a bit of recon found EVERY weld snapped. Now I have no idea where to go
I would go a step further, cleaned it and paint it before putting the bolt through, put a heat gun on it and it'll dry in 20 seconds, then smear a thin layer of silicone around the hole or washer so it acts like a "gasket" between the car and washer, and it will squeeze out and seal the hole too. makes for a cleaner looking silicone job, and shouldn't impede with torquing the nut since the threads are still clean, and if you're doing it by feel, it doesn't matter anyway.
So sad to see it at this point, I have the 6 already broken 😞, do you think it could work if I buy that kit and try to install it? Pls lmk
I have done the humble rumble kit, replaced assembly, did the torque solution brace, and still I have the sound, can anyone help
Will this help with the fire wall bending? My fire wall bends because I put in a stage 3 clutch and my car won’t go into gear
I'd say you'd need a brace as well. These are helpful to fix cracked welds

What size bolts are these and what size drill bit ? My kit is on back order but I can’t wait longer on my pedal so some subie dudes told me to just grab the hardware from a local store!
I'm not entirely sure as it looks like he's updated the kit since I made this video. I think anything similar in size to the diameter of the spot welds should work as long as the hardware is the same. Sorry I don't have any more info for you.

Yes it eliminates the creaking in the firewall. I have added the torque solutions brace as well. It's not really needed but definitely adds strength to the area.

Maybe the added force needed to depress it could cause more stress in the spot welds?

@@mor3frame I’ve got thunder thighs, but the clutch should not have been as heavy as it was. It turned into a truck clutch. There was something mechanically wrong and it was only going to get worse. Doesn’t matter. Got a GTI Autobahn. Waaaaaaaay better

Has Subaru issued any kind of TSB or factory recall to resolve this issue yet?
I believe there was a class action lawsuit against Subaru of America. It doesn't apply to any other country, so for me in Canada, they won't do anything
@@AdrianMorse42069 That's a pretty big engineering design oversight that should be remedied by Subaru directly.
I don’t have any squeaking but I had clicking think that this could be the same firewall issue?
It may be related, but the best way to check is to remove the cowl and inspect the spot welds to see if any have let go. Mine didn't click so I'm not entirely sure if it's the same problem.
Just bought my '09 WRX a few weeks ago, and mine was squeaking pretty bad, but now it just started clicking today. Pretty sure the spot welds are getting worse if you start to hear a crack
@@jakeiswayblack3377 I also have an 09. Deff get it fixed or at least diagnosed sooner rather than later. Once my pedal assembly ripped away from the fire wall it costed me a new clutch due to me trying to chase the issue. For me it was the spot welds and my pedal assembly was cracked.

I don't think they are a good idea, but no personal experience with them. Just what I've read online
Mine failed, I used some crazy industrial ones same size as these washers... don’t do it save your time.

@@kanwar2712 I'd maybe shoot Peter an email. He might know better what would be the best option. Mine wasn't yet cracked so I'm not entirely sure.
@@AdrianMorse42069 got through to him and got the green light. Started installing it today but for the life of me can’t figure out that second bolts you installed. Carpet is blocking it so much, have tried to pick as much of it away from outside as I can, but can’t find any place to pull that dang carpet down to get the clearance up top!
Was your car having issues getting into gear prior to the fix?
No issues getting in to gear. Just an annoying sound when the clutch pedal was pressed.
mine does with new clutch. subaru wanted me to pay 2500 to weld this plate back lol
I was having the issue that probably means all your spot welder are broken and the plate behind the fire wall is shifted so it will make this install way harder to do took me about 5 hours

Same lmao but I am gonna do this no matter what as preventative maintenance I know 2 buddies (08 wrx and 11 wrx hatch) that have had this problem and had to remove their whole dash to repair. This seems way easier lol

Yes! This would be a permanent fix when installed using the red loctite

Same. Also increases engine noise inside the cabin. Fuck. Ordered a rallitek clutch cylinder brace will get it installed soon

god that expensive for 6 nuts and bolts, Subaru is RAPE
