  • A common problem with the GR-Generation WRX STI's is a malfunctioning clutch pedal bracket, breaking away from the firewall resulting in a loose feeling pedal, and the whole clutch/brake pedal assembly shifting to the left or right! Today we go over a DIY fix the team at Fluid MotorUnion provides that you can do without any welding.

I had the master cylinder / clutch braces and the clutch feels a lot better now. However, the pedal assembly broke and have to replace it. My whole ordeal started because I decided to install a heavy duty clutch. My car is now making 400 whp and I was thinking a heavy duty clutch would help with power load. I had an Exedy Heavy Duty organic clutch installed. Shifting became better during WOT, but the stress from having to move the heavy duty clutch put stress in the weak pedal assembly and firewall. Stick with the OEM clutch.

Yes. This is a huge cause for accelerated failure of this area, however we have seen it on high mileage cars with a bit of rust. The area is just plain weak.

@@FluidMotorUnion Unfortunately, no one warned me about the weak firewall / pedal assembly issue.

Humble rumble kit, does all 6 spot welds, no dash removal either. Then clutch/master cylinder braces to hold the entire firewall
Edit: not meant as a jab, but some information for people who DIY and don't want to touch the dash

You are correct. Humble rumble makes a solid solution to this. I’m going to attempt the repair once my kit comes in. Mine is a 2014. The pedal feels good and I don’t think anything is broken aside from maybe one spot weld. It pops sometimes. The pedal feel is great. So. Probably best I make this repair before something breaks.

@@joshuathomas4934 it's pretty easy, a bit of a "hold your tongue the right way" kinda jobs if you've ever heard that saying before 🤣

Don’t remove your dash. Use humble rumble repair kit. You won’t have to remove the dash and will do the same exact repair this guy did. The trick to the kit is the bolts are hollow and can be guided with a wire to make it much easier to find the holes for the spot weld repair. It’s 100 dollars but I feel like for a purpose made kit that saves you all this time and money, it’s more than worth it. Pays for itself.

That seems like a pretty chintzy way for the manufacturer to mount the clutch bracket.
