The biggest issue I have with spirits is there is no descriptions. As a kid I loved reading the all of the trophy descriptions in Melee, Brawl and Smash 4 and learning about new franchises. With Spirits you can't really learn about an unknown franchise. If you don't get the refference in the spirit battle then there's no real way in the game to learn more about it.
Hot Take: The "Character has no moveset potential" argument is stupid and makes no sense. Legit we got Captain Falcon, the NES/retro reps, Sheik, and R.O.B. to name a few.
Don't forget Isabelle and Villager, two characters from a series that have next to no violence, yet they feel perfectly natural in Smash. Honestly the fact that they come from such a series makes it even better, Isabelle and Snake feel like they shouldn't be in the same game, yet they are and I love it.
Totally agree with everything you said in the Mario section. It sometimes feels like smashers value references a little too much. I think getting a character's feeling is the most important part of making a character. For example, Meta Knight has like 4 moves that actually come from his series but he still has a feel of an agile knight with swift attacks. Everything Mario does in Smash is super in line with how he would fight in my opinion and I think any massive shake ups hurts the synergy he has. Characters like Mega Man and the Belmonts are cool but I think they soured the waters of how people see character improvisation.
Yeah, if you rely on references too much you get the characters from Nick All-Star Brawl and MultiVersus who all have awkward movesets because the developers tried to cram in as many references and memes as possible.
@@DarkOverlord96 I think that happens because the references are only visual stuff and most of the moves do functionally the same thing, some canon representation on characters like DK, Sonic or Ganon would be great.
The worst cases of references is of course Steve, where they aimed to make him play Minecraft in Snash, and while they got the technical challenge mostly done, it was not a good idea to make him play Minecraft in Smash, for so many reasons.
As someone who follows competitive smash, let me explain why spectators hate Steve so much (without being rude like a lot of people are) 1. To start, Steve is plain and simple the best character in the game by far. It's easier to win with him compared to the rest of the cast. 2. Steve's combos do too much damage and he can kill way too early with diamond weapons. This makes comebacks less impressive and exciting, and more upsetting due to how easy it was to get back into the game. Comebacks are exciting and impressive because they're hard to pull off. For Steve, they aren't. 3. Steve is also a pretty campy character. He needs to farm up diamond as fast as possible, so he puts up a wall and hides behind it to mine. This is frustrating to watch because it's not engaging to watch Steve's opponent helplessly try and break through that defense without getting harshly punished. 4. Risk-reward for Steve is unfair. Any time an opponent engages with Steve, they are at risk of getting hit by a 60% combo or dying. You have to play perfectly in order to beat him. Meanwhile, punishing Steve is really really hard. Moves like back air, f smash, minecart, and anvil are all insanely strong and there is next to no risk to the Steve player to mash them. Normally, it'd be the threat of losing resources, but this isn't a problem for Steve in smash since he can easily put up a wall and get more resources before the opponent can break through. All of this leads to a frustrating viewing experience watching Steve. It all just comes down to not wanting to watch the easier, more broken character win over and over again. It's especially frustrating because Nintendo stopped patching the game, and THEN Steve players figured out how to play the character at a top level, so he can't be nerfed. A nerf would fix everything - make blocks more easily destroyed, make tools weaker across the board, make mining a little laggier. These things would help. But as he is, no one's gonna like watching Steve or seeing him win.
Considering that is the Smash community we’re in, you already know that there’s going to be those 3 or 4 offended players who main Steve going crazy in the comments.
@@KingObliv This take shows a lack of knowledge on the game. 99% of competitive players and TOP players agree on this. I'm not arguing for a ban, simply stating the obvious which is that Steve is the best character in the game by far. He is not lacking in a single area. Elite recovery, combos, kill power, disadvantage state, dominates the neutral game, risk-reward. Everything Steve has is top notch. This is basic stuff.
I think the other reason kirby and Mario don’t need a rework is because they’re supposed to be simple. They’re beginner characters that anyone can use, complicating them would kind of ruin that
4:44 Steve and Kazuya become boring to watch if you've watched a ton of top level gameplay for them. Once you watch enough top level Steve and Kazuya gameplay you start to see that they constantly fish for the same low risk high reward combos. And while the element of volatility can make things interesting, plenty of people don't like seeing someone constantly outplaying a Steve or Kazuya player only for them to lose their stock off of one or two interactions. That being said I respect your take because there was a time where I enjoyed watching Steve and Kazuya. I just kinda ruined it for myself by watching too much competitive Smash.
Hot Take: Most final smashes are TERRIBLE. I want to use powerful moves that feel like part of the moveset, not watch a cutscene or devastate the screen. Some examples of characters who do it right are Mario, Ness, and Ryu.
I agree. My personal least favourite change from 4 to ultimate was Pit losing the Three Sacred Treasures. Felt like bro was raining Destruction on the land now he just shouts "Lightning Chariot" and summons a macguffin
mario's baffles me. like, the super star or the mega mushroom were right there, but we just got a big fireball that kinda sorta like the move from smrpg.
I also don’t think many spectators hate kazuya. Like you can’t watch tea’s kazuya and not be entertained. It’s fighting him that’s frustrating especially with characters like wolf.
@@kanyegrande4312I think it's exciting in a frustrating way. Your favorite player is a stock up and just outfoxed Kazuya 10 times in a row only to get hit twice and now they're losing.
A few hot takes I have: - Bowser's new final smash is actually a way better choice than his old one. Instead of having it entirely taken over by the smash-original reference to Melee, the attack represents the most fitting choice, Giant Bowser, and also represents both Yoshi's Island and SMG2 in small ways. Then, using Giga Bowser for visual variety adds the Melee reference as just another layer on top of the base, instead of being the entire reference. - Characters should have no obligation to maintain movesets from the previous games. Especially in the cases of characters like Ganondorf or Sonic, I think that full overhauls should definitely be options that are considered. Sure, some players will feel alienated, but the same happens when characters are outright cut, and we've accepted that that's bound to happen. - I'm not a fan of Ultimate's stage roster. I think that it's way too reliant on old stages, and unlike the characters, doesn't even have the excuse of bringing back _all_ of the old ones. I would've much preferred if they primarily focused on new stages, with a relatively small amount of returning ones.
As a Ganondorf main that finds his moveset super fun, I would love more than anything else for him to get a new moveset that not only makes him competitively viable, but actually represents him well as a character. Tears of the Kingdom gave them so much to work with so now would be a better time than ever.
Ganondorf is one of the most played characters though. I would personally prefer if it stayed the same- maybe with some buffs, but definitely not a complete overhaul
@@ethantreadway9478 I'd personally also add: - Ancestral Steppe from Monster Hunter. I think the best way to go about it would be to have it be set in Area 4, and the background could feature Great Jaggi, Kecha Wacha, Gore Magala or Seregios, with a small chance of them being Frenzied (or enraged, in the case of Gore Magala) Area 3 could also be a suitable setting for the stage as well, but I like the look of Area 4 more.
I’m surprised no one else mentioned Classic Mode only having one stock (seriously, some rounds with certain characters are WAY too difficult). And I do agree that Master Kohga should be the next Zelda rep.
I preferred classic mode when we had the option of 1-5 stocks, scale the rewards down for having mor than one stock if you must , don't remove the option to have more than one life entirely
The current classic mode is a backstep IMHO. The idea of a little story for each character is cute, but with so many characters they could have done a multipath tale with different endings for each character. I hope they will do that in the next Smash Bros. Also more bosses. Duon was cool and Queen Sectonia would be a nice boss too. Master Hand and Crazy Hand must be tired of doing more than half of the job.
That doesn't really justify anything At least a couple of those characters could've simply not been added in their original games to begin with and that's it. The Everyone is Here gimmick brought them back, but there was never any need for, say, Roy or Corrin
That’s Ultimates Gimmick! Every fighter in Super Smash Brothers history is here! And that sadly means Lucina and Robin. Marth and Roy got English Voices, Ike can now be his 2 versions, Chrom is added, and Corrin fits with the theme of World of Light. This also means the game wasn’t Ultimate Corrin stays for fitting and they would add Chandelure in place of Pichu.
i remember an alpharad video back when byleth was revealed that I have to agree with, even as a non fire emblem fan: having a lot of different characters is a really important part of the series. So the most accurate way to represent fire emblem in smash is by having a lot of characters.
Actual Hot Take: There is more ways to represent franchises than just playable characters. Perfect examples of this being Zelda and Kirby. They both have the 3 actually important characters covered early on. So rather than bloat the roster with tertiary characters they instead focus on items, stages, and assist trophies.
Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf absolutely should have had there smash 4 designs as alts. Most of Ganondorf’s alts look exactly the same anyway so why not use different models
Cool take: indie games should get more representation than spirits, assist trophies, and mii costumes. I mean, I guess Steve WAS Indie but like come on
I think you are correct in saying that your Steve spectating enjoyment may be biased. The reason a lot of players think Steve is boring is because most of Steve’s interactions have to be forced by the opponent and consist on a series of situations HEAVILY weighted towards Steve and his mostly brainless set play. Also, gotta call hard cap on the Steve ban opinion. It’s easy to say that those who want Steve banned need to try harder when you play Steve, but the issue with Steve is that he not only breaks the fundamentals of the game such as stage structure, disadvantage, and spacing, but also stops the game from being a player v player experience and turns it into a mini game where the opponent has to break down a lot of broken Steve set play and 50/50s before actually getting a hit in. On top of that, Steve gets an atrocious reward and advantage state off of his mostly absurdly safe hits, oftentimes an advantage state that denies the implementation of fundamentals, and just does not have disadvantage most of the time considering his buttons and Neutral/Side B. Easy to say that if your opponent wants your character banned they’re just complaining, but truly he never considered someone losing to Steve to be an actual loss. Actual real losses should be based on you making poor decisions or your opponent making worse decisions than you, not an opponent being allowed to guess in random situations and win because most interactions with Steve are based on block placement that Steve set up because he’s nigh unapproachable. If a guy jumps you with four other guys, it’s not an honest fight that you lost. It’s an assault. Why do Steve mains get to pretend that they deserve their baby food victories, and so many in the Smash community just goes along with it?
13:51 heres my counter take: thats fumbest fucking thing ive ever heard. It is a video game series. Why would you not limit it to video games. If you want a platform fighter with characters from anything make it yourself
And we are seeing a rise in platform fighters based off non-videogame IPs. Nick All-Star Brawl 2 is the best of the ones we got, with a balanced roster of Nicktoons and even the addition of a Guilty Gear styled super meter to spice things up. From Spongebob and Ninja Turtles to IPs we haven't seen in years like El Tigre and Angry Beavers, the NASB2 roster and even the roguelike campaign mode has something for everybody. Multiversus has well-thought-out movesets and cool character choices, but is chained by molasses game speed, a horridly-paced singleplayer mode, and predatory monetization that would make even Fortnite blush. Believe me, like Odyssey flashed up onscreen, I wish MvS was actually good, but Warner Bros. wants to give a console fighting game the quality of a mobile game.
2:07 Yeah, totally agree. I even wouldn't mind if they're still PNGs, I just want them to have descriptions again. The descriptions are kind of a little reward on themselves because even if you already know the characters and all, it's still cool to see what the devs have to say about them
You know, I might get torched for this, but i DONT want Geno to be added in Smash 6, I already wasnt a huge fan of SM RPG, but overall he is just an OKAY character, like sure he has the things to be a fighter but I think he just isnt as relevant as other Mario characters on the roster, I much rather take someone like Rayman who hasnt had a new game for a while
The thing about Geno is that the Mii Gunner's moveset is honestly already pretty much perfect for him. That's why I would want the next Smash game to go all in on the idea of Deluxe Mii Costumes; Basically add the character to the game with some unique animations/effects and voice lines, but take the moveset from Mii Fighters so you don't have to spend time developing a whole new character. And then give the option to display them on the character select screen, similar to how you get to choose whether or not echo fighters show up. Cuphead is another one whose moveset is already pretty much perfect as Mii Gunner.
@@luisinloza9683 Smash 64 is 1 Smash Melee is 2 Smash Brawl is 3 Smash 4 is oh I dunno, 4? Smash 3DS is the 3DS version of Smash 4 (See it as Mario Maker 3DS) Smash Ultimate is 5
As a new player to the Smash series, I think that unlocking characters was a great decision. It allowed for a sense of reward for playing, if I opened up the game and had all of the characters instantly, I wouldn’t have gotten into it as much as I am now. Also it only took me like 3 days and I barely played
About adventure mode/world of light, I personally don't care at all for a story or even cutscenes. What I miss the most from Brawl's adventure mode is the sidescroller levels. I loved playing through levels with different characters and fighting enemies that are unplayable and only found in adventure mode. I know smash isn't a sidescroller beat em up but it was fun to have a mode where the game becomes that
I think most people misunderstand the concept of characters getting move set remakes in the next game. Sure, it would be cool to see characters get new move sets, but not everyone needs one. I think the characters that 100% need to go through this are DK, Samus, Luigi, Ganondorf, and Sonic, as their move sets are either poor representations of the characters have been outdated in the case of Samus. (And if anyone complains about their main getting changed, the Echo Fighters could keep the older move sets.)
I wanna update Mario to a moveset that is more “3D plat-former” oriented. Use Odyssey Mario, adding dives, ground pounds, Cappy Movement, long jumps etc.
On one hand, I would like for Dark Samus to be the classic samus well normal samus evolves as a character. But at the same time, an updated Samus sounds even more campy and I'd like to see Dark Samus be more original. Regardless, I'd like one of them to keep the classic moveset, as I am quite fond of it.
Hot take: Daisy should have a unique moveset based on her strikers charged debut with a mix of flower attacks for some ariel moves and crystal attacks for some ground moves.
Crossover culture in the early 2010s via the MCU, has directly affected internet culture and tainted/ruined Smash as a whole. The HD Smash titles as a whole have transformed Smash Bros into a massive crossover event that's only rivaled by Fortnite in terms of sheer scale and quantity gaming/media icons. For better AND for worse, every hype cycle for the game devolves into fans clamoring for the every 3rd party rep under the Sun after 4 gave us Megaman in the E3 reveal trailer. Especially in Ultimate's case after we got most of the big 1st party requests. It's gonna make the roster culling of Smash 6 a painful one. I'm always thankful for Brawl simply because of the era it came out in. It's a perfect time capsule that shows us a world where massive sweeping crossovers weren't EXPECTED to happen. Only Snake and Sonic.
I'm sorry, but I have to agree with your brother, Zelda's TP design is much more better than her ALTTP design, because she feels like an actual princess rather than a girl cosplaying as one.
4:57 as someone who has never watched comp amash bros and know literally NOTHING about it, even i can tell your reasoning for steve is biased as hell sounding. Not saying there isnt a good reason, but the one you used central wasnt very good tbh😭
The funny thing is about the "no non-video game characters in Smash" is that Sakurai legitimately considered James Bond for Melee, but decided against it during development (probably because dealing with all the legal bramble regarding using actor likeness and the JB rights holders in general) Though out of all non video game characters at the time James Bond made an actual whole lot of sense just on the back of how successful and influential Goldeneye 007 was
The lack of cutscenes isn't the only reason people don't like World of Light, people also just don't think the gameplay is good. Subspace had a massive amount of flaws, bit it was a proper adventure with actual levels. World of Light is basically a 20 hour long compilation of samey event matches
I have a similar issue here. I also didn't like how much pointless movement was there, and I didn't like the post-Galeem fights as much, and think it could have just not have a battle against both Galeem and Dharkon.
@@sharmakefarah2064 To be fair, the Galeem/Darkhon double boss fight was pretty nicely donez with it feeling like a three-way fight, as Galeem and Darkhon can target each other. Also, Master Hand being *officially* playable for the first time is awesome.
9:08 I’m a big Xenoblade fan and even I think that it’s stupid to say it’s underrepresented. There’s only 4 games, one of which came out after they stopped doing Smash dlc and the other without a rep is the one on the WiiU that nobody played. Also Smash technically has 3 Xeno characters and we’ll definitely get Noah and/or Mio in the next Smash game
About that Geno take, as someone who does advocate for Geno being in Smash, I do sadly have to agree. Toad and Waluigi are literally right there and are still waiting, and I do think they’re more likely to get picked first over my gun-toting puppet. Oh, and by the way, The reason why Geno is a popular choice for many is due to his prominence in the plot of Super Mario RPG, and has a unique striking design with guns for arms. Also, other niche and obscure Nintendo characters appeared in Smash and became fan favorites, like Ness, Captain Falcon, and Mr. Game and Watch. Even Sakurai wanted him in both Brawl and Smash 4, so he’s had Geno on his mind. The problem is with Square Enix and them being notoriously difficult to deal with.
Hot take, i think king boo is more important to add than waluigi because it can represent a whole other corner of the mario universe being luigis mansion
The game should at least be semi-balanced. There's tons of fighters who are plain broken and others that simply can't compete with them, and I wish there was a meta where any character could make a big scene in competetive play
250k special should be a ranking of every item in Minecraft, it would be a very long video but so would ranking every 2D Mario level and that’s happening anyway
probably a better idea to save that for 300k or something though because the 2d mario level video is probably gonna be out by the time he has to start working on a minecraft one.
What if some alts of Smash Bros Ultimate could’ve been like those Villager - villager of MK8D male and female and new alt from New Horizons Rosalina - young alt from the storybook and Biker Outfit Greninja - fixed the shiny Toxicroak alt Delphox and Chesnaught alt Definitely fixed PAC MAN alt to be Ms PAC MAN and the ghosts Bowser JR and the koopalings are okay Duck Hunt- Nintendo Dog Snoopy and Woodstock alt Clifford alt and Herdier and Ducklett alt
@@vanessasandoval96you can't make chestnaught and delphox alts of greninja, they are extremely different The same goes for Pac-man and the ghosts, and ms pacman had legal issues
saying "that's happening anyway" doesn't really work in this context. To the viewer, it makes sense. As you said, we're getting a long video anyway. However, from the production side, it doesn't really work, as it essentially doubles the time taken
he's only 18k away and he's not even done with the 2D mario level video yet. realistically he won't get much of a break before getting to work on another big video
Almost all 64 reps feel extremedly outdated, like, how does DK not have a barrel, or link still represent mostly OOT 25 years later, Samus being a one button character, yoshi an aerial spammer with no depht, puff lacking any sort of fairy type move etc. And compare them to the DLC fighters who have very distictive playstyles loaded with attention to detail and care.
Add Kirby to the list. In theory, Kirby could be different each game since his moveset potential is endless. There's no reason he should still rely on foot attacks and the same specials (that don't function like the games). He should have a projectile!
@@djdrizzy9139 True, basically all characters except fox and Falcon, which even if outdated, are extremedly iconic designs, deserve a redesign, even though some need it more than others.
@@sobblegaming350 I love my boy, but he would be even more fun with a new move set. I enjoy playing him more in his games than Smash. Besides, the same moves get stale after 20+ years.
Not every character needs to be overcomplicated with a million bars and meters and menus and bs But I agree in terms of at least swapping a few moves to represent recent stuff
Bandana dee would be good, if it will be similar to pmex remix Bandana Dee where his moveset referencess not only him, but also classic Kirby abilities
12:13 Personally I really love the way you unlock characters, I enjoy unlocking characters and it’s fun doing it with friends and the excitement you feel when you find the character you want and even if you fail you can try find it again without having to do another fight
3:48 I think adding references to a character's home series in their moves can easily be done without taking away from what they already are. The animation of Mario's up air could be changed from a kick to a tanooki tail swipe without changing the hitboxes at all, since that move already hits in the same kind of arc in games like 3D Land/World.
Wow. Didn't even read my hot take? Unbelievable. Unsubscribing. Resubscribing. Installing dislike extension. Banning on Twitter. Following on SoundCloud. This is my TH-camr? Wow. Cool Bowser clip.
My 3 biggest hot takes: 1.) The final fight in World of Light where you face Galeem and Dharkon at the same time is a super fun final boss fight. The pacing is great, the challenge of dodging two bosses' attacks at the same time is a fun challenge, and there's a cool aspect to the fact that they damage each other. You don't quite want to kill either one until they're both weak, because they technically help you out with the other. However, the mandatory boss rush before it sucks. 2.) Melee had the best system for unlocking stuff. Yeah, Ultimate is quick and easy, but it feels empty. "Oh, yay, I just unlocked a random character for playing a random match." VS "Yeah, I finally completed solo mode for all the original characters... and now I'm unlocking, ... who is this? Wow, it's a dude with a sword like Link! Marth? Who is he? He's going to be my new main!" It feels more rewarding for accomplishing difficult tasks, like 100-man melee to unlock Falco. Also, the stages are done well. To unlock Yoshi's Island, you must get 400m on Homerun Contest. Who is best to use for this? Yoshi. It makes sense. 3.) As much as I like Cloud, and as much as Sonic fits so well into the game, I liked it when Smash Bros was a Nintendo game with Nintendo characters. I was a big Cloud fanboy back when Melee was in its prime, and I wanted the next game to have Cloud, but was willing to accept the game is about Nintendo, not Saga, Playstation, or X-Box. Similarly, I think Master Chief would be fun for Smash, but prefer to keep it primarily to Nintendo games.
P.S. Regarding Zelda, yeah, Ultimate is the best version of Zelda. She was alright in Melee, but Brawl Zelda was rough. She is most playable in Ultimate, most fun personality, and yes, she is really pretty in Ultimate.
It’s funny when you realize that Smash Ultimate actually does have an anime rep. That being Lucario. So to the person wanting an anime character rep there ya go. Yes Lucario came out in an anime movie before he was in a Pokémon game.
No, he was in a movie before a mainline pokèmon game. But even before that he was in mystery dungeon. (Albeit only as backstory character, you can’t interact with any of him in the game itself
@@algotkristoffersson15 that’s not true at all. The mystery dungeon game came after the movie. Movie was released on July 6 2005. The mystery dungeon games did not come out until November 17 of the same year in Japan. So yes he is an anime character.
If they ever decided to do a Lego character, they literally have Chase McCain to use as a rep. He’s an OC (I’m pretty sure unless he got a set that I don’t know about) and there is definitely some potential for a moveset
I believe Chase's first appearance was LEGO City Undercover, so he counts. Now, he DID get a polybag set in late 2012, but it was just a preorder bonus for his game in early 2013. He would go on to appear in two LEGO City sets and eventually as a playable character in LEGO Dimensions Year 2 (aka that time LEGO went the Skylanders route).
10:38 You're wrong here. Maybe having damsel in distress Zelda design looks better to you, but not only does Twilight Princess Zelda actually fight, she's also cool as shit.
It’s not about the game though, it’s about the actual design. Also both link and ganondorf changed from twilight princess to a different game, leaving Zelda on twilight princess would’ve been weird. Also she has an alt for it
Hot Take:I LOVE THAT PIRAHNA PLANT IS IN THE GAME. Their moveset, being themed around a breed of plants, is great. Their final smash is awesome. And the fact that they got invited and not Waluigi is HILARIOUS
I'm just gonna say this, Porky/Pokey Minch from Earthbound/Mother should have been added whether as a fighter or even a boss fight. There seemed to be some signs of some kind of inclusion, Having no associated spirits (Besides The Absolutely Safe Capsule which doesn't even have them inside it) and would be an interesting fit for a villain Earthbound/Mother rep. Now don't tell me how their move-set would work, But it's so strange that there's not a single proper reference.
My hot take is that Pauline should 100% be added before Waluigi as the next Mario character. She's literally been in the games since 1981 (before Bowser, Peach, and Luigi) and could even be included as a Donkey Kong character instead if they want more DK representation. She's one of the most iconic video game characters of all time but still manages to be underrated. She should 100% be added
With her getting in the new Mario Party, it is possible. stages like New Donk City (and 75m…) could be her home stages, and could represent odyssey along with Rosalina (Galaxy) and Mario / Bowser. Jr (Sunshine)
My hot take is that I actually don't mind all of the Fire Emblem characters. I've never played a single Fire Emblem game, and I'm nowhere close to a fan of the series, but I don't mind the inclusion of a bunch of reps from the series. I enjoy playing swordfighter characters, and without the Fire Emblem characters, there wouldn't really be that many options.
My hot take, final smashes peaked in Brawl. A lot of the cutscene and streamlined final smashes came in Smash 4, while Brawl they thought out of the box for a lot, like Luigi's
@@ThatSquirtleGuylol yeah, like Luigi's final smash in brawl was very gimmicky, and they had to change Dedede's 3 times, and i think his current one fits him a lot more then what he had before
- Mewtwo's moveset is so bad. I've never really seen anyone call it out, but it does not feel like you're playing as the most powerful Psychic-type. Even something like swapping Disable for a strong Psychic-type move like Future Sight would do so much - If you don't think they're gonna put a new Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and Xenoblade rep in the next Smash, you're capping - Assist Trophies should get a Final Smash Meter treatment in the next Smash. Plenty other fighting games have a similar character support summon system, and it would be a way to give some of those underdogs some more representation - Alternate colors are just fine, they don't need to give everyone these custom skins
Assist trophies having that is just a bad idea. Games that have them would revolve around them since it'll be a free final smash + assist. I get that items are really good and unbalanced but there still is a line.
i personally hate fighting against mewtwo, he hits like a truck. As a Shulk main and Xenoblade dick rider, i wouldnt mind then dropping Shulk and Aegis in the next game, updating to Noah/Mio. In fact, the entire roster should just be an “updated nintendo cast,” reboot the series. Finally get Game and Watch and R.O.B out of here lol
@@benjimiguel17I don't have any opinions on they first takes, but I disagree on the third one. Going back to the series being just Nintendo characters would be a really lame downgrade. I also really hate when people talk about "rebooting" the Super Smash Bros. franchise. A reboot means resetting the continuity, but there zero reason to do that to Smash. The main gameplay doesn't follow any storyline, and for a an actual Story Mode they could totally come up with another one, World of Light ending doesn't prevent them from continuing the story. (For some reason some people think everyone dies in the true ending wich is just not true, only Galleem and Darkhon died.)
@@Josue_S_6411 Eh, I think it could heavily benefit from a reboot, for multiple reasons. 1: Sakurai is no longer part of the development. This would give whoever is newly in charge of development to create a new identity for the franchise, separating the Sakurai and post-Sakurai eras of the game. 2: It is a Nintendo property, and we know damn well that any game past Ultimate is NOT going to get past those licenses. One can only imagine how much trouble it was to get Sora, Snake, Cloud, etc this time around. If they allow non Nintendo characters next game, it will not be to the extent Ultimate was able to get, so it will just feel like a watered down roster when it comes to third party reps. 3: There are sooo many underrepresented Nintendo characters that could be taking up slots. Cloud is cool, but there are just as cool characters in current Nintendo IPs that can have a similar playstyle. Smash, in the end, was made to advertise and promote Nintendo IPs, and that isn’t a bad thing. I wouldn’t have discovered Xenoblade if it wasn’t for Smash, saw the weab lightsaber sword in 4 and was like “i gotta see more of that!” 4: And of course, a series reboot would finally allow for some reworked and updated characters. I know he said that “Mario doesn’t need an updated moveset,” but they are missing out on so many mechanics. Odyssey movement would be sick as a character, which there are Rivals of Aether workshop mods that prove that. Same for a BoTW and ToTK Link. Samus, Yoshi, all the Pokemon, so many characters in the game that could be reworked. We always talk about “DLC Treatment” but a reboot may finally allow the current cast to receive that “DLC Treatment” instead of reserving it for 3rd Parties only
As a certified Magolor simp (surprising I know) I would love for him to be in the game but I definitely think Bandana Dee should be added first. He really deserves it.
Here's a hot take: Fire Emblem isn't over-represented, but POORLY represented. 3/8 of them are bland self-insert avatars added for marketing purposes, and another 3/8 of them are clone characters to make development easier, leaving Marth and Ike as the only truly warranted additions on their own. The need to represent exclusively sword-wielding protagonists restricts not only moveset potential, but also the personalities these fun side characters could bring to the table, one of the main reasons Fire Emblem fans even like the franchise. Everyone I know would much rather have Edelgard, Dimitri, Claude, or even all 3 swapping together like Pokémon Trainer over Byleth... someone like Anna or Tiki would've done an amazing job representing the franchise as a whole as well. Heck, they could even give Fire Emblem its own fighting game to save Smash fans the trouble, they've sure got the roster for it!
The thing with Fire Emblem is that they add the main protagonist from every main game, and honestly some of these characters have really fun and unique movesets. Robin, Byleth and Corrin all have really fun and unique movesets, even if some of these characters are kinda hated for being yet another FE character. Along with that, there's also some characters that are also self insert protagonists in the series (see Mr. Game & Watch and Pokemon Trainer) I think the character choices aren't very great and it'd be nice to get some side characters instead of just the main character from every significant game, but the movesets they go with are still really fun to play. I genuinely enjoy my time using every character from the series even if they share too much overlap for my liking.
I'd argue at least the Robin's themselves are fine cause they at least their moveset represents the magic from Fire Emblem well enough, and that makes them unique from the other fights. Although I feel that Fire Emblem should be more open to add characters from the older games, especially since some of them use things other their swords as their main weapons
i'd argue marth ike and robin are alright fighters. i'd love to see them add a very different character from all three though. maybe a knight/general would be an interesting addition, or an archer? or go wild with a wyvern rider. fire emblem is so much more than just lords.
Here is the thing, you're right with them being poorly represented but they are also over represented being tied for 2nd yet despite this have nearly double the rep of all Nintendo games under them. In the 2 smash games of DLC there is 3 FE DLC characters, which I believe is the highest a single series has from DLC. All in positions where unless you were psychic you wouldn't realize not buying the pass is cheaper now. When other Nintendo series struggle to get more then 1-3 reps this is absolutely over representation. Fire Emblem has a bunch of good things, but Nintendo has given people legitimate reason to despise it.
if when you mention bland self insert avatar you are including robin, i think you shouldn't count him, i personally don't view him as a bland avatar at all, he's the coprotagonist with chrom and i like him as a character and barely think about them as an avatar aside from the customization, i think of them as the best integrated avatar out of all of them in fire emblem
I think Sonic's costumes can work with Only Blue, cause he has quite a few iconic costumes he can wear, like the Soap shoes or the Riders Shoes and Glasses, i think it has potential if they reference more than those random hands in the Sonic 2 special stage or whatever the heck they meant to "reference"
pyra and mythra take a lot of fundamental skill and knowledge to win with, even if they do it very well. You can’t just throw something out and expect to win. The difference between her and the other two is that Steve and Kazuya give you little to no knowledge on how you would play other characters or learn the fundamental knowledge to win with them, you can’t do inputs with most of the cast (and kazuya’s inputs are very different than the other shodos) or block shenanigans. That’s why I personally think they shouldn’t be compared.
@@LleytonSPD While they aren't as overpowered as steve, I think that the Aegis are very poorly designed as a duo character. Every single other multi character had to very distict characters, but Aegis are just fast Swordie and slow swordie, Mythra frame data is absurd and her speed and combos are only balaced by her not being able to K.O. which instead of doing by interesting and skill testing set-ups like sheik or ZSS, she does by switching to a stroger version to herself. Worst designed duo in smash and it's not even close.
You cannot suggest any character you main is fun or boring to watch, there will always be too much bias and a very big difference in how you view the game. And not many people truly complain about kazuya to watch, people more often complain about sonic, game and watch, or rob for that matter. And hardly anyone suggests kazuya needs to be banned, solely steve which i do agree with but seeing it would be impossible to do globally steve shouldnt be banned
Hot take: fire emblem isn’t over represented and smash players don’t like it just because they don’t like the game and if any other series got that many characters they wouldn’t care
I think it’s a case of it being about as large as Mario and Pokemon while not having the same level of popularity. I personally don’t care, I like playing all of them besides robin (I don’t like the playstyle), Martha (Lucina is more fun) and Byleth (I don’t own them)
It is overrepresented but honestly since so many of Fire Emblem's are just clones, it's not that bad. A clone is a lot quicker to make than an original fighter so it's not like Fire Emblem's reps are stealing from any other series. Also I feel like people should be more upset with how underrepresented Zelda is, it hasn't gotten a non-clone character since melee.
11:56 Yo Me cameo that's pretty cool. Thanks for the inclusion, nice to be able to spread my obviously objectively correct takes. Like c'mon Nintendo, you couldn't have just promoted the Nookington Tom Nook and or Resetti spirits or something... And double thank you for prompting me to actually fix the display name change TH-cam forced upon me. It's ELEVEN, not ONE ONE SIX FIVE. That's just stupid... (But yeah, fr, thanks for including my comment, didn't think it would given how simplistic it was).
What if some alt costumes that could’ve been smash ultimate Meta Knight - Morpho Knight Wario - Waluigi alt Pokémon Trainer - Ash to be Red alt of the male and Dawn to be Leaf alt of the female Definitely fix Sonic alt to be Knuckles Shadow Rouge Silver Lucario - shiny alt
in regards to unlocking every character, i think it would be really cool if each character had a unique unlock condition as long as it was something small that didn't take more than a couple of matches. like, imagine if to unlock luigi you had to end a timed battle with a "2" as one of your KO digits (obviously a cheeky reference to his unlock condition in melee) it'd be hard to make unique and fun ones for every unlockable in the game but if it was made possible then it'd be so much fun to speedrun unlocking every character by completing their unique conditions. obviously i wouldn't want it to be the only way to unlock a character, but a quicker way to get the ones you want other than the weird classic mode chart or completing all of WoL just to get Roy.
Yes I can. Instead of replaci anyone they should have just had one more character somewhere between the actual ones with that character being dry bones. Like I don’t get why people think there’s some objective limit to the size of the DLC packs. Like no there isn’t, it’s only six characters long because they decided to make it that way. They could have made it whatever length they wanted to.
@@pinkiemeowstic89they choose to make it six characters long because they had six ideas for characters. Not the other way around. So there aren’t any slots to take.
I used to be all for Geno in Smash just because of how popular of a request he is, but then I played Super Mario RPG and now I wonder why people want him in Smash. Dry Bones would unironically be a better choice. Also, Freddy Fazbear would be the perfect Mii costume.
1:05 This is just fax TBH. Sure Spirits are recycled PNGs, but trophies after melee would often be reused models or sometimes sprites. They'd also serve 0 gameplay purpose and often collect dust outside of the die hard enjoyers. The blurb of info that the trophy would have is appreciated but rather obsolete in the modern day internet where you can look up these characters & franchises at the press of a keyboard. Trophies were cool, but Spirits just seem to offer more to more types of people. I'm convinced they only get a bad rep cause they the presentation is below average or people didn't like griding WOL or Spirit Board.
I completely agree about Geno. I always like it when I hear someone else say he doesn't deserve a spot. (Also SSBU is my favorite Zelda design, but that won't stop me from hating you and your brother)
Steve definitely shouldn't be BANNED, but (online at least, tournaments are too far away from me) he's one of my least favorite characters to play against because if you go with his camping he gets stronger but if you don't you get punished, which is pretty bad character design
As the biggest Xenoblade fan you’ll ever meet, yeah it’s represented fine. I think having Adult Shulk and Adult Rex in place of Shulk and Pyra would be better, if not just replace pyra with normal rex. Also add Noah or Mio
Hot take: Waluigi and Geno SHOULDN'T be playable. First of all, there are too many Mario characters, no matter how important the franchise is for Nintendo Also, if the characters are not reliable for competitive Smash they'll end up forgotten and unused. A waste of space
geno i get, but i feel like due to waluigi being nothing but “the sports guy who nintendo fucks over”, you could realistically take him in a bunch of different ways and i think that’s cool.
@@jaco8822 The problem doesn't rely on whether or not Waluigi would make up for a good fighter (Which I honestly don't care). People tend to ask and beg for whatever character they can come up with and Nintendo may greenlight one of them, but that doesn't mean people will play with them For example, people loved when Banjo-Kazooie were finally announced as playable characters, but nobody plays with them as people claim they have a "bad moveset", which I disagree with. Byleth's case is the exact opposite as people hated their inclusion, but they praised their moveset If they are considered below the B tier in competitive standards everyone stops playing as them because they are not good enough. People will eventually forget Waluigi was playable at some point due to how lackluster his moveset and stats are, if it ever happens
8:25 HOT TAKE: Personally transformation final smashes never made sense to me, a final smash is meant to feel like an ultimate attack using your characters full power. and giving you a "powerup" just doesn't feel like a final smash and isn't exciting to me.

He's a really obscure character, I doubt that he's coming back.
I don't know, I have my doubts.

😂i love the sarcasm
The biggest issue I have with spirits is there is no descriptions. As a kid I loved reading the all of the trophy descriptions in Melee, Brawl and Smash 4 and learning about new franchises.
With Spirits you can't really learn about an unknown franchise. If you don't get the refference in the spirit battle then there's no real way in the game to learn more about it.

Legit we got Captain Falcon, the NES/retro reps, Sheik, and R.O.B. to name a few.
We got a freakin *potted plant,* how was that even an argument?
unfortunately, we got rob 😔
People only ever said this when they just didn't want said character in the game so theyd just put this label on them
Literally. Movesets are only about references. They are about getting the feel of the character and the game.
@@sharmakefarah2064 He's just overtuned, a few number tweeks and he'll be alright.
Mega Man has done irreversible damage to moveset speculation
As someone who follows competitive smash, let me explain why spectators hate Steve so much (without being rude like a lot of people are)
I'm not a fan of Steve but I like how they managed to get his side view well, using a Family Guy approach.
Considering that is the Smash community we’re in, you already know that there’s going to be those 3 or 4 offended players who main Steve going crazy in the comments.
@@AGZhark I think most people who play Steve honestly do just like Steve, which is why they feel the need to defend him so hard.
he's not the best character and certainly not by a mile
I just kinda ruined it for myself by watching too much competitive Smash.
ive been competing for a while and Riddle’s is still my favorite player lol
I only watch tournament majors with Steve on it so I don't get sick of it, also twitter clips of Steve are very cool imo.

People who love Geno also loove to tell you
Mainly cuz (especially prior to the remake) most of them haven’t even played Mario rpg
Not that hot
Bandana dee fans*
Still better than the people wanting Goku or Shrek.
A few hot takes I have:
- Bowser's new final smash is actually a way better choice than his old one.
As for stages they should’ve added;
Sky Tower (Kirby RTDL)
Alolan Pokemon League
Sunset Heights (Sonic Forces)
Battle Stadium (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe)
@@ethantreadway9478 I'd personally also add:
- Ancestral Steppe from Monster Hunter.
Why not bring back absolutely everything in smash history and only ever add without ever removing anything?
I’m surprised no one else mentioned Classic Mode only having one stock (seriously, some rounds with certain characters are WAY too difficult). And I do agree that Master Kohga should be the next Zelda rep.
I somehow managed to beat 9.9 with Ryu before I even got really good at the game. It was very difficult.
I agree with you as well.
I preferred classic mode when we had the option of 1-5 stocks, scale the rewards down for having mor than one stock if you must , don't remove the option to have more than one life entirely
I ended up getting to 9.8 once and RAGED when I realized that you have to play absolutely PERFECTLY to get 9.9.
@@hyperfairy7779 Yes. I once did this in melee and it was still pretty difficult even with 3 stocks.
9:49 Well, remember, as Delzethin said, the only reason Fire Emblem has so many characters is because “everyone is here”
Waluigi: “Why are we still here? Just to suffer?”
That doesn't really justify anything
At least a couple of those characters could've simply not been added in their original games to begin with and that's it. The Everyone is Here gimmick brought them back, but there was never any need for, say, Roy or Corrin
@@robotnick9867 leave my boy Roy alone.

The thing about Geno is that the Mii Gunner's moveset is honestly already pretty much perfect for him.
That's why I would want the next Smash game to go all in on the idea of Deluxe Mii Costumes;
Basically add the character to the game with some unique animations/effects and voice lines, but take the moveset from Mii Fighters so you don't have to spend time developing a whole new character.
And then give the option to display them on the character select screen, similar to how you get to choose whether or not echo fighters show up.

I know smash isn't a sidescroller beat em up but it was fun to have a mode where the game becomes that
I don't think Odyssey Central has played Brawl because he burly talks about it.
(And if anyone complains about their main getting changed, the Echo Fighters could keep the older move sets.)
not luigi my bae
I wanna update Mario to a moveset that is more “3D plat-former” oriented. Use Odyssey Mario, adding dives, ground pounds, Cappy Movement, long jumps etc.
If the echos are supposed to represent a character who's moveset has changed entirely, then they're not echoes anymore.
Daisy should’ve been a “Mario Sport’s Rep” and Waluigi a “Mario Party” rep
I personally think that Gooigi has a lot of potential to be an echo or even just an alt for luigi
i'd say Gooigi fit's better as an alt for Luigi rather then a clone
it'd work as an alt for sure, but a full on echo wouldn't cuz it'd then have to have costumes of its own, and what would you even do beyond recolors?
I was thinking the alts from the luigi's mansion dlc where he has tons of outfits
Alt would be great
NEVER let this man cook (about Smash) again 💀🔥🔥
The Geno one is the only take of his that I agree with
Crossover culture in the early 2010s via the MCU, has directly affected internet culture and tainted/ruined Smash as a whole.
100% agree. And honestly it probably doesn’t matter what characters are added, since people will be disappointed no matter what.
Ok video game analyst
6:16 I completely agree! Fassad SHOULD get added to the game! Glad you’re with me on this one! 😀
I'm sorry, but I have to agree with your brother, Zelda's TP design is much more better than her ALTTP design, because she feels like an actual princess rather than a girl cosplaying as one.
I still can’t wait for the day Dry Bones gets added to smash and seeing Odyssey’s reaction
4:57 as someone who has never watched comp amash bros and know literally NOTHING about it, even i can tell your reasoning for steve is biased as hell sounding. Not saying there isnt a good reason, but the one you used central wasnt very good tbh😭
The funny thing is about the "no non-video game characters in Smash" is that Sakurai legitimately considered James Bond for Melee, but decided against it during development (probably because dealing with all the legal bramble regarding using actor likeness and the JB rights holders in general)
Though out of all non video game characters at the time James Bond made an actual whole lot of sense just on the back of how successful and influential Goldeneye 007 was
Get James Bond in Smash 6, Nintendo

I don't think Wlauigi should be added tbh, also true
The game should at least be semi-balanced. There's tons of fighters who are plain broken and others that simply can't compete with them, and I wish there was a meta where any character could make a big scene in competetive play
250k special should be a ranking of every item in Minecraft, it would be a very long video but so would ranking every 2D Mario level and that’s happening anyway
probably a better idea to save that for 300k or something though because the 2d mario level video is probably gonna be out by the time he has to start working on a minecraft one.

saying "that's happening anyway" doesn't really work in this context.
To the viewer, it makes sense. As you said, we're getting a long video anyway.
However, from the production side, it doesn't really work, as it essentially doubles the time taken
he's only 18k away and he's not even done with the 2D mario level video yet. realistically he won't get much of a break before getting to work on another big video
young link not getting a mask mechanic is an absolute crime, there's my take. A meter building up to fierce deity would have been incredible.
@@djdrizzy9139yeah but kirby is fun so
@@sobblegaming350 I love my boy, but he would be even more fun with a new move set. I enjoy playing him more in his games than Smash. Besides, the same moves get stale after 20+ years.

But I agree in terms of at least swapping a few moves to represent recent stuff
About Kirby using his abilities in moveset : it doesn't need to change attacs mechanicly, just make animations represent certain moves
Bandana dee would be good, if it will be similar to pmex remix Bandana Dee where his moveset referencess not only him, but also classic Kirby abilities

Yeah
He was fine in Smash Flash but I don't care for him
3:48
I think adding references to a character's home series in their moves can easily be done without taking away from what they already are. The animation of Mario's up air could be changed from a kick to a tanooki tail swipe without changing the hitboxes at all, since that move already hits in the same kind of arc in games like 3D Land/World.
Wow. Didn't even read my hot take? Unbelievable. Unsubscribing. Resubscribing. Installing dislike extension. Banning on Twitter. Following on SoundCloud. This is my TH-camr? Wow. Cool Bowser clip.
My 3 biggest hot takes:
1.) The final fight in World of Light where you face Galeem and Dharkon at the same time is a super fun final boss fight.
He is still associated with games more than movies.
@@Josue_S_6411 yes but still an anime movie character as that’s what he appeared in first. Doesn’t change that fact.
@@Lugiamasterbrony but actually he’s a game character because the anime movie he is from is a spinoff of a video game game series.
Also she has an alt for it
@@ThatSquirtleGuylol Idk. I still just really prefer the design from TP. Plus the alt just isn't the same.

Hot Take:I LOVE THAT PIRAHNA PLANT IS IN THE GAME. Their moveset, being themed around a breed of plants, is great. Their final smash is awesome. And the fact that they got invited and not Waluigi is HILARIOUS
since Microsoft now owns Activision I feel like they’re gonna push for Crash Bandicoot in the next Smash
What would Pauline even do? Sing her way to victory?

A lot of them were way too gimmicky though
@@ThatSquirtleGuylol yeah, like Luigi's final smash in brawl was very gimmicky, and they had to change Dedede's 3 times, and i think his current one fits him a lot more then what he had before

If you want a Lego character, Chase McCain from Lego City Undercover would be the perfect candidate since that game was his first ever appearance.
- Mewtwo's moveset is so bad. I've never really seen anyone call it out, but it does not feel like you're playing as the most powerful Psychic-type. Even something like swapping Disable for a strong Psychic-type move like Future Sight would do so much
- If you don't think they're gonna put a new Fire Emblem, Pokemon, and Xenoblade rep in the next Smash, you're capping
- Assist Trophies should get a Final Smash Meter treatment in the next Smash. Plenty other fighting games have a similar character support summon system, and it would be a way to give some of those underdogs some more representation
- Alternate colors are just fine, they don't need to give everyone these custom skins
I wouldn’t have discovered Xenoblade if it wasn’t for Smash, saw the weab lightsaber sword in 4 and was like “i gotta see more of that!”
4: And of course, a series reboot would finally allow for some reworked and updated characters. We always talk about “DLC Treatment” but a reboot may finally allow the current cast to receive that “DLC Treatment” instead of reserving it for 3rd Parties only
Honestly, I like Disable as a Smash move for Mewtwo. Feels super psychic with how he basically just stuns you by looking at you.

Game & Watch and Pokemon Trainer)
I think the character choices aren't very great and it'd be nice to get some side characters instead of just the main character from every significant game, but the movesets they go with are still really fun to play.
I honestly love watching Pythra, Kazuya, and especially Steve just straight up break the game in tournaments.
pyra and mythra take a lot of fundamental skill and knowledge to win with, even if they do it very well.

I personally don’t care, I like playing all of them besides robin (I don’t like the playstyle), Martha (Lucina is more fun) and Byleth (I don’t own them)
half of them are bland anime sword fighters
@@ThatSquirtleGuylolI suggest buying Byleth; they're pretty damn fun.
“Not over represented” but they have 8 characters 6 if you don’t count echoes and the series isn’t that popular

Lucario - shiny alt
in regards to unlocking every character, i think it would be really cool if each character had a unique unlock condition as long as it was something small that didn't take more than a couple of matches. like, imagine if to unlock luigi you had to end a timed battle with a "2" as one of your KO digits (obviously a cheeky reference to his unlock condition in melee)
it'd be hard to make unique and fun ones for every unlockable in the game but if it was made possible then it'd be so much fun to speedrun unlocking every character by completing their unique conditions.
obviously i wouldn't want it to be the only way to unlock a character, but a quicker way to get the ones you want other than the weird classic mode chart or completing all of WoL just to get Roy.

I think having Adult Shulk and Adult Rex in place of Shulk and Pyra would be better, if not just replace pyra with normal rex. Also add Noah or Mio
wasn't it the fact they had a lot of trouble trying to make Rex work is why he was replaced by his blade in Smash?
I think shulk and pyra are fine, though I'd love to see an off the cuff pick like Melia (her summons could make for a fun gimmick I think)
If you remember "at 200k I'll be ranking every 2D Mario level" you had a great childhood
How do I never see the cool Bowser bit coming?
I love your content and all your videos are super high quality. Keep up the good work
Dry bones for smash btw
...but what about lego batman
hold up guys, he's cooking.
Echo fighter
I haven’t seen your content in a while! W video right here
Hot take: Waluigi and Geno SHOULDN'T be playable. First of all, there are too many Mario characters, no matter how important the franchise is for Nintendo
Also, if the characters are not reliable for competitive Smash they'll end up forgotten and unused.
People tend to ask and beg for whatever character they can come up with and Nintendo may greenlight one of them, but that doesn't mean people will play with them
For example, people loved when Banjo-Kazooie were finally announced as playable characters, but nobody plays with them as people claim they have a "bad moveset", which I disagree with. Byleth's case is the exact opposite as people hated their inclusion, but they praised their moveset
If they are considered below the B tier in competitive standards everyone stops playing as them because they are not good enough.
