My biggest hot take is that I really don't want mario kart to turn into a kart racer version of smash. I like how it's just mario, and can keep the mario athestic. I don't mind having a few characters like link or villager but I really would prefer characters like hammer bro or spinoff characters.
I think you’re missing another reason why people hate cheese land. And also underrating how big those cuts are at the end. Seriously, there’s no point in running, bagging is way too good, two mushrooms take you from 9th to 1st Anyways, the biggest reason I dislike cheese land is the combination of low traction (the reason you don’t like Neo Bowser) and cheese holes. Makes the track really annoying to drive on
It's not that it's not fun it's that it's boring. They could have done a lot better with the theme of a Neo City and even if we ignore that and focus on the remake they could make it a least a tiny bit more interesting.
That Koopalings take is so based. I've heard a lot of people say they should just be alts for Bowser Jr. but I feel like that's the same as saying "make Baby Mario an alt for Mario". I feel like it's fine for Smash since their bodies are mostly obscured by the Clown Car but I don't want to race as short Iggy and aggressively less chonky Morton. These guys have dramatically different body types and I would like them all to be anatomically correct instead of changing it cause "Smash did it".
8:38 GOAT opinion. Especially in 8, player skill matters WAY more than character viability. Every combo in 8 is at the very least a weird niche option, and all combos are more than playable. WR pace time trials are the one exception, but the number of people at that level actively trying to take wrs is ridiculously small relative to the amount of people who have ever played mk8.

You can't seriously be telling me you'd rather have Tanooki Mario, Cat Peach, Baby Daisy, Baby Rosalina, Gold Mario, and Pink Gold Peach over characters like Captain Falcon, Kirby, Dixie Kong, E. Gadd, Toadsworth, and Sonic the godamn Hedgehog, can you? And I don't buy the argument that the koopalings are more important just because they're filler bosses in a couple 2D platformers. They could all just as easily be replaced with Boom-Boom in a wig and the games would have zero differences. Meanwhile, all the characters added in the fan roster have far, far more personality and love put into them (except for Dr. Mario, but whatever). They acknowledge the broader Mario universe and practically every character in there has some sort of fanbase. The fact that they aren't important to the Mario series as a whole is a problem which is entirely caused by Nintendo and can easily be fixed by them literally just by including them more. Hell, that's what happened with the koopalings; nobody cared about them at all until they came back for NSMB Wii because Nintendo actually made an effort to include them. Who's to say the same wouldn't happen if they started using characters like Toadsworth and E. Gadd more? And why not include WarioWare characters in the Mario family? Banjo is a pretty cool choice too and could be fun as an homage to Diddy Kong Racing. I guess you can take or leave the RPG characters since they're meant to be one-offs, but, like, replace them with Zelda and Samus or something? Or idk, put more fun characters in like Chain Chomp. Idk, that whole roster section just feels like defending mediocrity simply because that's what we've been given.

I think the next Hot Takes episode should be on Mario Odyssey. I've recently 100% the game, along with every other previous 3D Mario game and I have some hot takes of my own. Biggest one being that Bowser's fights in Odyssey are the weakest in the series. It's hard to explain why in just a single comment, but it's nowhere near as tense or difficult as his fights in Galaxy, which I consider to be his best outing.

The cities are unironically some of my favorite tracks in the game. Every one of them except for Tokyo Blur are at least really good. Vancouver and Berlin are amazing, and Berlin Byways is my second favorite track in the game, after Squeaky Clean Sprint.
My hot take: City tracks deserve significantly less hate than circuit tracks. While both of these types of tracks are generally not well-liked, cities get it much worse. The whole ‘it’s mostly just road’ criticism for city tracks applies WAY heavier to circuit tracks which 9 times out of 10 are LITERALLY just road, and said road is the exact same for all 3 laps. Cities switch things up every lap and have certain stand-out features with popular locations
my hot take is that i dislike the anti gravity gimick. it makes the tracks feel more similar and the visuals of the game are not strong enough to justify the mechanic. rarely do i ever drive down a waterfall and actually think im on a waterfall, it just looks like im in a river. and that goes for 99% of anti gravity sections. a big problem is that the camera always orients itself so you are rightside up. if this was an older MK, the camera would be oriented normally, and your kart would be upside down while driving on ceilings. the camera staying always upright with the player ruins the entire appeal of the anti gravity gimmick.

One hot take that I have is I would prefer not having all the characters at launch (apart from DLC) like imagine starting the game with like 12-16 characters and you have to do unlock characters by getting enough coins OR bring back the DS challenge mode and unlock characters that way!
10:45 I rememeber that the AI would often get stuck into literaly looping in circles in a smaller part of both said stages. I do not like the battle mode from Wii U, it also had the mixup of that you would stay dead after being defeated but could drive around as a ghost and still take others out. But not getting points for it.
My take is that the next Mario Kart should be only new tracks. I think we've had enough retros shoved down our throats with Tour and the BCP for a while.

Characters having the same stats is something that some games do as a seperate option, but in Mario Kart you also have the hitboxes and weight, i think it would feel off if it is the same for everyone

I have never seen anyone with this hot take meaning people probably love these mechanics but… I dislike the gliding and underwater mechanic! I think these mechanics lead to lazy track design and in retro tracks removal of cool track features like the underwater tube with the rushing water and lazers in Koopa Cape, the swaying bridge in Maple Treeway, being able to glide over lots of the mushrooms on Mushroom Gorge, and replacing the pokeys and tornados in Dry Dry Desert with generic gliding straight forward or just driving forward in a boring underwater section. Also the gliding mechanic is used in almost every course and it’s too overused. Bowser’s Castle 7 is an example of lazy track design do to relying on underwater and gliding and making it one of the weakest Bowser’s castles due to barely taking place in the castle. I wouldn’t mind these mechanics if they were used in unique ways but for now almost every course they are used in make those sections of the courses feel boring.
I have a very controversial opinion on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe: I don’t think the Booster Course Pass graphics really matter, and in a way, I do actually prefer the graphics of the BCP over the base game. The graphics make the tracks look more cartoony, and I’m not a fan of the realistic artstyle of the base game. Mario is a cartoony franchise, so seeing these realistic environments in the base game is very odd for a cartoony franchise like Mario. To me, the lack of textures don’t really bother me as long as the tracks themselves are fun to play on
I have almost the exact same opinion on Cheese Land, except I do think the Moon aesthetic from the GBA is far superior, but outside of that, the remake is so good it's my favourite Mario Kart track of all time

My hot take that isn't even that hot is the online mode needs more than VR to make it interesting. It needs FIFA like league tables based on your VR, or weekend tournaments. Also if they're not going to release another game for 10 years, make ps like trophies achievable like a silver for "10,000 successful green shell snipes" or "1000 shock dodges achieved" or whatever

I'll give you some. #1 I'm Very Happy Peachette was in the game and i certainly prefer her over Funky lol. #2 Nintendo should add more Non mario characters and i personally think someone like Kirby is overdue (Rosalina Smash Bros 4 Trailer Anybody) #3 Probably not a related Hot Take but Mario Kart REALLY needs an Adventure/Story Mode. #4 I'm very happy that Underrated Mario Tracks such a Mario Circuit DS and Toad Circuit was included, They need love too and not just your typical popular ones like Airship Fortress.
Yoshi Valley was a good battle track, and I'm dissapointed it was cut from 8 Deluxe. Yeah, I said it. Also, can people on online not pick Mario Circuit, FOR FIVE MINUTES?! Its just Figure 8 Circuit on steroids.
I do think that the aesthetic of the booster course pass is better than base game, but only when they don't screw it up and make everything look like plastic When they actually put in effort to add texture, Tour's Cartoony aspects of the tracks make them feel way more like a Mario game than some of the base tracks do, specifically with the retros sometimes it felt like they sterilized the Mario aspects in favour of realism, like removing the Yoshicopter from Yoshi Circuit in exchange for a regular generic one When they actually put in the effort to port a track from Tour to 8, we get the best aesthetic of the game, most prominent with tracks like Riverside Park, but it's only like half of the pass
I personally felt happy with Peachette's inclusion in BCP Wave 6, I love how her trick animations are based of her double jump from NSMBUDX and her voice overall is adorable, I have always mained her since Wave 6 dropped, much better clone then Pink Gold Peach anyways

If you look at it from the perspective that this allows Peachette to be a playable character in a console Mario Kart before Tour's servers shut down, then yeah I think it would be pretty hard to disagree with you. Especially since all of the fan favorites from previous games like Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, and Petey Piranha weren't snubbed from making it into 8DX in favor of Peachette.

My hot take: Im extremely disappointed by the 7rr remake in essentially every way. I think it looks *significantly* worse than the one on the 3ds, and I'm not a fan of the drums on the theme remix. The dynamic lighting that's in base Mario Kart 8 is completely missing in 3DS Rainbow Road, and it shows *really* hard in the glider section before Saturn's rings. Everything is either very bright or super dark for essentially no reason, and I *hate* the contrast. On top of that, its also easier than the Mario Kart 7 version. I think it's not a good remake, but still a very good track, while being a massive downgrade from my favorite track in the entire series.

One hot take that I have is I would prefer not having all the characters at launch (apart from DLC) like imagine starting the game with like 12-16 characters and you have to do unlock characters by getting enough coins OR bring back the DS challenge mode and unlock characters that way!
10:45 I rememeber that the AI would often get stuck into literaly looping in circles in a smaller part of both said stages.
I do not like the battle mode from Wii U, it also had the mixup of that you would stay dead after being defeated but could drive around as a ghost and still take others out. But not getting points for it.

My take is that the next Mario Kart should be only new tracks. I think we've had enough retros shoved down our throats with Tour and the BCP for a while.

Characters having the same stats is something that some games do as a seperate option, but in Mario Kart you also have the hitboxes and weight, i think it would feel off if it is the same for everyone
It’s also scummy that they have all the DLC stuff on the dejection screens even when you don’t own it
Also DLC defeats its purpose of being a delux version

I dislike the gliding and underwater mechanic!
I think these mechanics lead to lazy track design and in retro tracks removal of cool track features like the underwater tube with the rushing water and lazers in Koopa Cape, the swaying bridge in Maple Treeway, being able to glide over lots of the mushrooms on Mushroom Gorge, and replacing the pokeys and tornados in Dry Dry Desert with generic gliding straight forward or just driving forward in a boring underwater section.
Also the gliding mechanic is used in almost every course and it’s too overused.
Bowser’s Castle 7 is an example of lazy track design do to relying on underwater and gliding and making it one of the weakest Bowser’s castles due to barely taking place in the castle.
I wouldn’t mind these mechanics if they were used in unique ways but for now almost every course they are used in make those sections of the courses feel boring.
I have a very controversial opinion on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe:
I don’t think the Booster Course Pass graphics really matter, and in a way, I do actually prefer the graphics of the BCP over the base game. The graphics make the tracks look more cartoony, and I’m not a fan of the realistic artstyle of the base game. Mario is a cartoony franchise, so seeing these realistic environments in the base game is very odd for a cartoony franchise like Mario. To me, the lack of textures don’t really bother me as long as the tracks themselves are fun to play on
yeah odyssey missed the whole point of the take, confusing graphics with artstyle.

I have almost the exact same opinion on Cheese Land, except I do think the Moon aesthetic from the GBA is far superior, but outside of that, the remake is so good it's my favourite Mario Kart track of all time

My hot take that isn't even that hot is the online mode needs more than VR to make it interesting. It needs FIFA like league tables based on your VR, or weekend tournaments.

I'll give you some. #1 I'm Very Happy Peachette was in the game and i certainly prefer her over Funky lol. #2 Nintendo should add more Non mario characters and i personally think someone like Kirby is overdue (Rosalina Smash Bros 4 Trailer Anybody) #3 Probably not a related Hot Take but Mario Kart REALLY needs an Adventure/Story Mode. #4 I'm very happy that Underrated Mario Tracks such a Mario Circuit DS and Toad Circuit was included, They need love too and not just your typical popular ones like Airship Fortress.

I do think that the aesthetic of the booster course pass is better than base game, but only when they don't screw it up and make everything look like plastic
When they actually put in effort to add texture, Tour's Cartoony aspects of the tracks make them feel way more like a Mario game than some of the base tracks do, specifically with the retros sometimes it felt like they sterilized the Mario aspects in favour of realism, like removing the Yoshicopter from Yoshi Circuit in exchange for a regular generic one
When they actually put in the effort to port a track from Tour to 8, we get the best aesthetic of the game, most prominent with tracks like Riverside Park, but it's only like half of the pass

I personally felt happy with Peachette's inclusion in BCP Wave 6, I love how her trick animations are based of her double jump from NSMBUDX and her voice overall is adorable, I have always mained her since Wave 6 dropped, much better clone then Pink Gold Peach anyways
To be honest I think Nintendo would make a Booster Course Pass 2 wave 7-12 6 characters and 48 tracks 12 cups 12 Mii racing suits

Don’t know if it’s a hot take but I didn’t mind the changes to Toad’s Turnpike (my fave N64 course). While it’s not as cramped and had the antigravity walls, I still think it’s a fun course

If you look at it from the perspective that this allows Peachette to be a playable character in a console Mario Kart before Tour's servers shut down, then yeah I think it would be pretty hard to disagree with you. Especially since all of the fan favorites from previous games like Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, and Petey Piranha weren't snubbed from making it into 8DX in favor of Peachette.

I Love Amsterdam DRIFT! And it's my favourite city track in mario kart 8 duluxe
My hot take: Im extremely disappointed by the 7rr remake in essentially every way. I think it looks *significantly* worse than the one on the 3ds, and I'm not a fan of the drums on the theme remix.
The dynamic lighting that's in base Mario Kart 8 is completely missing in 3DS Rainbow Road, and it shows *really* hard in the glider section before Saturn's rings. Everything is either very bright or super dark for essentially no reason, and I *hate* the contrast.
On top of that, its also easier than the Mario Kart 7 version. I think it's not a good remake, but still a very good track, while being a massive downgrade from my favorite track in the entire series.
We need to have the Batmobile for Mario Kart 9
