Cheap is a relative term. The Philippines is "cheap" for foreigners because of the buying power of their currency. The minimum wage in the Philippines is P650/day. That's barely $13 for a whole day's work. A teenager in the US working at McDonald's make $15/hour. A nurse in the Philippines makes an average of P30,000/month (around $600). You pay P35,000 for your condo. Do the math. BGC does not represent Philippines, not even close. Go to the provinces, you'll see the real Philippines. I'm from the province of Laguna, just south of Manila. It's the 21st century, but in my small town there are still many homes that don't have indoor plumbing, and a few that don't have electricity. I know, hard to believe, right? I could go on, but I'll leave it here for now. Have a good day. 😎🙏
Great if you are paying in USA dollars.Try Australian or Canadian and prices with conversion are on par.A few dollars less on some items like rent, but everything else is the same price as in Canada😅
Thank you Mr Brian all your positive description re the PH country & the Filipinos. Every country around the world has positive & negatives anyway. The best in the PH is fully relaxation, cheap facials & body massage, cheap clothings & cheap foods. The Filipinos culture ie: Bayanihan, warm friendly smile, love sense of humor, very hospitable & generous, easy going type of living.
I believe, within 10 / 15 years, BGC will be a separate city from Taguig, and double the size. Those new towns and cities being built up and down the archipelago will be sought after like diamonds. I had plans of living in BGC, but my EURos will not be enough to sustain the kind of good lifestyle I have here. A shame because I'd love to live right on the premises, being a TOwnie all my life. Sure I can dine and wine, enjoy the ambience, once in a while. Thanks Brian for your thoughtful narrative. See you next year.
Having lived in the 🇵🇭 Philippines 🇵🇭 back in 1991 at Clark Air Base, Philippines 🇵🇭. I was age 28 then. Now age 62, a widower and my children are grown now with children. I plan on returning and retire in the Philippines. I believe most will need about 1,600 dollars 💸 or more to live the prince 🤴 life and above in the 🇵🇭 Philippines 🇵🇭. Thank you for this video.
I've been living in the USA for 25 yrs. You hit it right on the spot about the "Street food". I miss those good old days when I was able broke ass high-school student on a budget 😂❤😂
If you're getting your own AC unit get an inverter or a double inverter. It will cut your electric bill by half or more. By the way I pay around $360 monthly for my high-end condo in Ortigas, compare to my rundown apartment outside Los Angeles for $1,500
I agree that certain areas in Manila Capital Area is a good choice for a foreigner at least from a amenities, utilities including Internet point of view, but to hear someone selecting the concrete jungle of BGC as the best place and bragging about it is incredible. BGC, which, except for people who love shopping malls and neon signs, makes me wonder if they, even after years living in BGC, will know anything real about the Philippines? For me, a place like Parañaque close to Pasay and the entertainment area give you everything. Affordable local attractions, real estate, and venues, top-class restaurants and resorts, stable Internet, and the international airport. Why on earth would someone choose BGC and it's overpriced hype, unless it is because they don't know anything else about the Philippines, is beyond me.
Brian visit Greenfield District very nice there.street food, food trucks at night, walkable to Shangri-la mall , hotel, megamall podium , robinsons and many more .try it my friend
You have to be open-minded and appreciate the culture and the people living in the Philippines. If you can't adjust and appreciate the people, the Philippines is not for you.
All those watching this video, listen to Brian's advice about not everything is dirt cheap in the Philippines. Living in these bubble cities are just like living in the west but at a much more affordable prices with mostly all of the amenities we are used to in the west. Do not, however, think that if you move to the provinces so that you can save more money and have the same amenities like the bubble cities offer, you will be extremely disappointed. If you can live minimally and not splurge and not be an impulsive buyer, you will do well in these bubble cities, even in cities not as high end but offer plenty as well. For example, myself am from a city on the outskirts of Batangas. It has most of the amenities the west has to offer and cheaper than the bubble cities such as BGC. Just remember, in the Philippines everything is much slower in pace. That includes practically everything we have become used to and at times been spoiled with in the west. For instance, I was just there in October of 2024. I went to a bank to close an account I had with them. I got there at 9am and got out of there at 11:40am. Medical appointments, forget it. Get in line as it is first come first served at the doctor's office. Will the doctor be punctual? You guessed it, nope the doctor makes his/her own schedule. If you get there toward the end of the day, you will be asked to come back tomorrow. The somewhat good thing about it, you will keep your place in line the next day, lol. Your A/C unit broke down? Don't expect the technician to be there at the drop of a call. Instead expect him to be there two or three days after he tells you he will be there...for example that afternoon? Expect another 2-3 days on top of that! Oh and don't expect him to have all the tools to fix it either. He will either ask you to purchase it or he will return later in the day...that later in the day can be another two or three days. Bottom line, you need to really practice your inner patience and I mean PRACTICE IT WELL! Do not think you can bring your western attitude and expectations to the Philippines and flex it there, especially if you decide to live in the province. It will backfire on you in the biggest of ways and the locals can make life a living hell, if you decide to be confrontational with them. It can even turn violent. If you have a girlfriend/fiancé/wife or whatever there, stay away from her family if you can. Do not build a house on her property AT ALL COST! Being around her family (first, second, third, fourth, etc.), invites them to ask you for financial support. If you decide to give them financial support, you pretty much messed up. Now they will expect it from you each time they ask. If you cut them off, they will talk about you and spread rumors about you. Over there, rumors spread fast and are almost always believed. There are many great things about the Philippines, but do not think it is all paradise and tropical fun. As there are many great things about the Philippines, there are equal negative things about it as well. Do your research and do not set your expectations too high.
I have free train since 2022 to go around where i live, around Valencia in Spain. Subway is 4 euros for 10 trips in Valencia and suburbs, and there is much more subways stations than in Manila. How much the train to go inside Manila and suburbs? Oh there is not, and the metro / subway has very few stations in Manila and nothing in the suburbs, true ?

Doesn’t matter what you pay there. It’s all too expensive. The value you get for your money is extremely bad. Also, if you do stay at an expensive hotel or condo. You should write a book about all of these, Brian. Love hearing your narratives in prose but they’re probably better off being read in one book
Maybe in10 to 15 years the Manila subway might be operational. BGC will be repucated in so many communities that by Makati it will be obsolete.
