BMW Abnormal and Slow Gear Shift Fix - Throttle Body Adaptation F10

  • If your car has started to feel slower while accelerating or doesn’t shift as fast as it used. There is a fix as long as you have an automatic BMW car from the last decade or so. Any BMW series that has electronic throttle body learns as you drive and adjusts to your driving. So, when you get a used car it drive slower for a good while and what that pro back in the car, you have to reset your transmission or perform what is called a Throttle Body Adaptation. Removes hesitation.

    Worked on my 2018 X3 M40i that I recently bought used. At slower speeds the car seemed sluggish and breaking seemed to occur hard. I think the first owner drove the car hard (when I drove the car hard, gears would shift very smoothly and no sluggishness noticed at all). After doing this Throttle Body Adaption reset the slow speeds are much more normal/responsive and not sluggish (and lower gear shifting is normal too) but the biggest surprise was that the breaking is way more smoother and not hard at all anymore. As the car will now learn my driving habits it will only get better for me. So for me this Throttle Body Adaption reset ended up resetting the throttle and also the breaks too.

    I was having weakness response while accelerating after using my car for 2 months normal driving even while slow down the car is making engine brake and I wasn’t known the problem,
    But after this helpful video I start driving my car a little aggressive trying to do aggressive acceleration once on each trip even without making pedal reset,
    Now thanks god my car is responding quickly to the acceleration 👍🏻

      Thanks for sharing, it's crazy how much of a difference it makes. At some point I was shopping for a 435i and when I drove the very first one, I was not very impressed. It felt slower than my e92 335i I had at the time... then I drove another one and it was miles faster.

    What's the difference between this and a transmission reset with Inpa? I know that a whole re-learn procedure needs to be done with the Inpa procedure when the trans fluid is done, but what is the relationship between these two and should you do one over the other...... I hope you sort of get my question. (I'm having trouble trying to phrase it! lol!)

    I’ve just bought a F31 330i M Sport touring - manual - 2016 with 77k - one owner - full BMW main dealer service history.
    I’ve had it a couple of weeks now. I live in London so haven’t had many occasions to take it past 4000rpm. When I have deployed WOT I’ve noticed similar issues posted on here.
    There is a 1-2 second cut off in the throttle at around 5000rpm when changing from up from 2nd to 3rd and again from 3rd to 4th.
    I’ve had the spark plugs changed and the garage I bought it from are changing the coil packs next week.
    He’s plugged it in and there are no error codes whatsoever. Car seems immaculate.
    I’ve also felt like when I first get to 4th gear - there can also be that 1-2 second cut in throttle power.
    This only happens when I floor it. It drives superbly otherwise and I’m very happy with it.
    I’d love to know if anyone has found a definitive answer to what causes this issue and more importantly how to fix it!

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you've tried this reset (or have the shop do it via a scanner) and it still continues, you could have an injector. Most of the time it would trigger a rich or lean code, but not always if the duration is very short. Hope others have more to say or help! Good luck.

    • @olig2508
      @olig2508 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimpleCarGuy thanks pal! I’m taking back to garage I bought it from next week so will get them to check injectors. As no error codes going to get them to double check the mapping too as the car runs so smoothly other than this minor throttle delay / cut out I feel like it’s not a mechanical issue. Saying that I’m no mechanic so that assumption is based on f*@k all!

    It works but it won't last long. A few days later it will be sluggish again. This is not a permanent fix though. You pretty much have to do that all the time.

      The car learns how you drive, so if you drive in slow traffic the next few days the car will be sluggish. You’re right though, it’s not a permanent fix, it just resets the adaptation.

      You're basically calibrating the throttle body position sensor. The car can then re-learn bases on how you drive.

    This is not a fix in any way. This is a bandaid to a very serious safety issue. Worthwhile yes but people should never refer to it as a "fix". Bmw should actually reay "fix" this issue for good.

    • @SimpleCarGuy
      @SimpleCarGuy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t have an x1 to test on, but it should be something like this:
      They call it the TBA reset:
      - Put the power on but do not start the engine.
      - Floor the throttle for 30-60 seconds
      - Keep the throttle to the floor and put the power OFF
      - Release the throttle and wait 2 minutes.
      During the 2 minutes you should feel or hear some kind of mechanical sound.
      That should tell you the reset is complete.
