  • We review the 2023 Lexus RC-F Track Edition, a throwback V8car designed for the fast driving that aims to drop weight and still be reliable. Sadly this car pushed the price to over $100,000 which makes it more expensive than cars like the Supra, LC500, BMW M4, Porsche 911, and Audi RS6.

I think that too tbh, if I had 70k saved up, I'd say fuck it and save a while longer or take out a small loan to step up to the LC. The carbon kit will date the car going down the line, and the LC is just sex to the eyes and ears.

Lexus left this option in the menu for the 1 out of 10000 buyers who will appreciate this act, reminds me of the small group of engineers that designed the isf, this car has the most soul in the whole class.

  • @Sebb747

I love the design of the track edition, but to be honest, at least for me it feels like a strange compromise. If you want a comfortable, reliable car with an awesome engine, go get the normal RC F and enjoy your heated- and cooled seats. I also really like the TVD, which is, strangely enough, not available on the track edition. On the other hand, if maximum track performance is what you want to go for, the RC F probably isn't the right platform to start with. If you're looking for a track-daily-combination that will last a long time and also don't care much about resulting times or creature comforts, this might be the answer, but that is probably a very niche market.

Same, as I said above. I'd rather own an LC500. I think this car is destined to be a waste of money; it's not desirable. At least there are a fairly large group of people who desire LC500s, it's also a limited run car, there are a group of people who find the looks intoxicating, and it has a modern transmission. I don't know a single person who wants this trim(at a 30-40k premium) of the RCF.

I doubt this will become that collectible. It's not much different than the RC-F, it doesn't do anything better than its competition. It's not even more engaging, other than engine sound, which you can get in a much cheaper Mustang GT.
Cars that become collectibles always have something special about them, even if they're objectively worse in performance. If this had a proper manual, it would stand a better chance, IMO. In fact, the transmission is going to be a hurdle for collectible status.
The price will probably have a floor, but you likely won't see them fetching a premium...ever.

the LCs transmission is slower and worse from a performance perspective FYI. It only sounds and gives the emotion and character in my view. If it had the LCs Transmission it would actually overheat since the LC has no trans cooler. They dont have that 10 speed in a setup thats comparable to robust nature of the 8 Speed Asin of of yet. One of the many reasons the LC is not a F car. LC is a great car it's just a different tool designed for a different purpose and there's a reason it doesn't have a F on it in its current config. That is all.

@@kwikfilmsTV Agreed its an odd thing. But it mostly comes from folks that dont know these cars or have not driven them and just going by ambiance or impressions. In reality you throw that 10SPD in a RCF and it would not only be slower than a on temp Aisin it would overheat doing heavy track duty in its highest setting. If i were to state an upgrade for the F cars which are actually designed for duel purpose use, unlike a LC...it would be a new DCT/ZF that would be an upgrade to the Aisin. Both are great cars but have different purposes and should be celebrated for what their lanes are because of their damn good at their intent. Folks dont know but this is still relatively early with Lexus with full F cars. Only less than an handful of cars have earned that designation and with time it will grow. I think we have at least 1 more generation of possibly new F cars with ICE engines or hybrid-assisted engines before we sadly venture into electric performance cars. I love Lexus for what they did with the TEs/Fujis ..truly a treat that even me as a M car lover had to experience and glad to say....totally get it now and just love the car. Its in my view how it should've came originally but thats just me ( I personally was not a fan of the heavier TVD iterations coming from M Diffs this combo was perfect with weight balance, aero and stopping power ). Like yourself its just a car you have to drive for a long session to be like...wow this is a damn good car. Found myself saying that more than test driving M4GTS and a Gen 1 R8 to my utter shock and thats when i had to cut the check. Its an underrated great machine that puts a huge smile on your face.

I give props to Lexus for building this car, they don't have to do it, but they know that the RC F fans like it. The price is down right stupid, like most of the Lexus line up, but this car will be a great used buy in a couple of years if you can find one, which you probably won't be able to. Not too many people talk about the exclusivity of the F cars. You're not going to see too many of them, that's for sure. Hell, I've NEVER seen another GS F on the road where I live, other than my own, so that's kind of neat pulling up into a Car's and Coffee with something that pretty much no one else is going to have... Obviously, this car is “slower” then competition because it’s an older type of performance car. Lexus has not updated their high-performance F line. Also, lexus has done enough to prove that they can make enthusiast cars. They are no longer “trying”. If I was not a car enthusiast and I was just a normal person, I will completely write this car off because of your review of it.

I didn't clarify in the vid enough, but other cars feel more tactile, have more sense of occasion (even Lexus has the LC which is more exciting on track), or are more practical and usable at the same price or lower.
The regular RC-F is 98% of this car for significantly cheaper, but it's just not suited for this role (track) between how disconnected it feels and how slow and disruptive the trans is. My personal pick for this price would be a ZL1 1LE and a hefty insurance policy, or an M3/M4 comp and a stack of paper bags, but I find even the GR86 more fun to be honest, if not as special.

I drove my friends “regular” RCF for a bit. The transmission sucks in manual mode. One of the downshifts didn’t even rev match and felt like I was going to go through the windshield. His is a 2015-2016 IIRC…trans really shows it’s age and feels terrible for an enthusiast car that was over 70k new….
It shifts pretty quick on up shifts though and sounds good when you’re flat out. Snaps shifts off pretty good
It’s a shame you can’t get a manual, it would have made it much more fun and interesting to drive.
Sound: it’s a v8, it sounds good but nothing amazing in stock form. Pretty subdued/quiet
Rides nice, well insulated. Too insulated for my taste, doing 120mph feels like nothing. It’s not even fun honestly.
It’s pretty fast, nothing insane though. It pulls hard but it doesn’t put the fear of God in you 😂
Handles well, especially given it’s weight.
Seats/interior are nice. Great driving position.
Overall though, I’d much rather have a 6th gen Camaro SS 1LE. One of the best manual transmissions I’ve used, exhaust sounds awesome from the factory with zero drone (albeit too many pops and bangs on overrun), way more fun to drive, and it still rides nice and is comfortable. Lot more drama. And they’re cheaper….I miss mine
He loves it, but he wanted something unique that isn’t a Mustang basically.
After driving it, reaffirmed my decision to get an ND Miata. (Which I did). Have more fun doing 50mph in that than I would the Lexus at 150mph lol. Slow car fast….
Overall it’s kind of a weird car. You buy one because you want something fast, comfy, and reliable, but it’s not particularly engaging to drive compared to its competitors. I think die hard enthusiasts will be let down by the transmission too much, I couldn’t look past that.
I’d never get one, but he loves it. If it had a manual, even if it wasn’t particularly good it would be a lot more compelling. I think for the money, especially at new prices, I’d try to get into a lightly used Porsche of some kind…
I’ve had my fast car fun with the Camaro, now I’m at the stage where I just want what’s most fun to drive. Miata does it for me, Lexus didn’t tick that box for me whatsoever. Found it to be extremely forgettable 🤷‍♂️

It’s not like the cheaper competitors are like daily driving Caterhams or something lol. The 6th gen Camaro is a nice place to be, the Supra, etc. I think I’d take a gt350 over the RCF and just deal with the reliability issues….at least it’ll be an exciting car.
Hell I’m comfy in my ND2 Miata and it’s way more fun. Totally different class of car, but still…at the end of the day you’re buying something like this for fun.
