    If it’s any helpful in feeling a bit better about the transmission, it definitely was waking up and downshifting in the second half a lot better! A lot of Toyota auto transmissions have a sort of warm-up time after startup for a few shifts before they really start shifting aggressively. At least I noticed that in the IS, GS, and even Camrys

      @@TedwardDrives I don't agree they are protecting the car from damage making sure it's fully up to temp, I would expect a new car would be more likely to do that than an old car. Also why on earth would you track a car in auto?

    • @2ZZGE100
      @2ZZGE100 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@85CEKR Yep. It is annoying as it takes forever for my RCF to come out of the limp mode even after the redline has gone all the way up. However, I know it will be a good protection for the long term. I agree, Lexus designed the manual mode for the track. The auto mode is just for puttering around even though, it has the G-AI shift control that does rev-matched downshifts under hard braking, but still the manual mode is way more aggressive and shifts faster for time attacks.

Bought one as a track car :) Swap out those PS4Ss for CUP2s go wider and squared all around and rear seat delete with the TE/Fuji upgrades and enjoy! LFA brakes are so special along with the lighter weight components which really set them apart, so much more nimble around a track than all previous RCFs before them stock. Underrated for sure. Should have used manual mode and downshifted aggressively under braking. Downshift is important to keep the center of gravity static under hard braking as engine braking adds drag on the rear wheels using engine compression slowing the car naturally rather than shifting the CoG forward as it would under braking without engine braking. Being an RCF owner, the transmission is way more aggressive than how it appears in the video. Looks like it is in limp mode. Auto mode is not the right mode to use for the track. Auto mode is not meant for the track, but I think the engine was not properly warmed up, which is why it was not downshifting and rev matching. BTW, the dampers are the same as the other RCFs. No difference in the dampers or the springs.

      @@TedwardDrives Other than the powertrain still in limp mode due to not being properly warm (it takes a long time for it to remove all nannies for longevity purposes) I have no other thing that would prevent rev-match downshifting as there is G-AI shift control, which essentially measures braking G-forces to aggressively downshift under hard braking. I have an RCF myself and though, I only use manual mode, it does aggressively downshift under braking even in auto mode if I ever use it.

      @@2ZZGE100 Sadly, @Tedward, I have to confirm this. IS 500 owner, and I feel the same way. If I am in Sport S+ and giving it the beans, it will auto-downshift when I brake hard.

    That's an excellent car to push hard all day on track, this version comes standard with 4 wheel carbon ceramics. Those seats keep you in position. One can disable stability/traction aids by holding tcs button down.
    I would make 2 changes to it if I owned one:
    Medium Compound Racing tires in the stock tire size
    Stock sized carbon fiber wheels From Australian wheel manufacturer carbon revolution
    (This would save about 20-25lbs of unsprung weight)
    Maybe upgrade brake pads with Carbon Ceramic pads as well or maybe semi metallic to help cement the durability of those carbon ceramic discs.

    Tires on it are PS4S and not not PSS. However, 100% agreed the RCF is grossly under-tired. RCF TE should have had Cup 2 on them. I have an RCF CF/TVD and had MPSS as OEM on it. An RCF TE with an owner who was not a pro, in traffic did a 7:48 around Nürburgring 100% stock with better tires. Was extremely disappointed in the load rating and sidewalls of the OEM tires. Switched them up with much more aggressive tires with higher load rating and it completely makes the car behave differently. Also, important to note, even a BMW M2 these days weighs between 3850 - 3900 lbs, which is roughly the same as an RCF/TE.

      @@Sebb747 Yeah, the key difference is load rating. The OEM PS4S on the RCF are 92Y front and 96Y rear. Considering RCF weighs 3840 - 3950 lbs, they are not sufficient for the weight/inertia of the car. That is why I went with 96Y and 100Y that are rated for high performance sports cars weighing 4200+ lbs so they have way more capacity than the car can throw at them. Cheers!

It's still 10x better than having 10s of displays around. The blue accents on a black interior are phenomenal, they look so beautiful and classy yet sporty. Now, labelling it as a track edition is a bit of an overstatement imo, therefore I would love for it to have a leather or alcantara dashboard (I think it does not, right?), it would suit the car perfectly. And we definitely shouldn't talk about stock tire choice. Fun, short watch, wish we could see it in a regular review/presentation with some detailed body & under the hood showcase because that's where this car shines the most I think.

    One thing to note is that the RC F's trans takes a while to fully warm up to temp(5-10 mins), it will limit rpms and go up as it warms up but for me even once it gest up to 7500, the manual/auto shifting won't be proper until perhaps 2-3 mins later.

    With Toyota, and Lexus by extension, winning LeMans 5 years in a row, I really hope they make more serious and dedicated sports cars from the knowledge they've gained and from their recent racing success. They need an entry level sports car in the $28k-$40k range, a middle entry in the $40k-$60k range, and a 911 fighter in the $60k-$85k range. For $75k ish I have the carbon fiber roof, rear spoiler, TVD, and all of the other RC-F track oriented accessories. I then spent ~7k getting new BBS wheels, carbon fiber hood, tune, CAI, Air/Oil sep, new exhaust, etc. With all of that, I still saved $15-20k to spend elsewhere and at the end of the day, it's more or less the same car. The Lexus carbon fiber is superb and the interior is SLIGHTLY different, but all of that is not worth $30k from the "sport package" version. They've got to make it make sense.

    Personally, I feel like they missed the mark with this one. Calling it a “Track Edition” should’ve gave them an opportunity to just strip the car to make it much lighter. Calling it that and it still weighs as much as a modern sedan while being a track focused coupe isn’t good. All Lexus did was marginal improvements and charged $30k more over the regular RCF. Brand new, it cost $5k more than the LC500 and let’s be honest, that car is more desirable than this. Originally making this platform as a nice daily cruiser coupe isn’t helping when it comes to turning it into a performance car, two completely different styles of driving. In my opinion, they would have to restart from scratch to actually do what they want to do with this car.
