  • @gritsandgravy2633
    @gritsandgravy2633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +391

    RE3 isn't bad, it was just entirely too short and predictable. The music, voice acting, and art design were this game's strongest points but the overly scripted battles and lack of exploration made the game somewhat disappointing. It was clear that the developers wanted a fast paced atmosphere - the problem was that it was too fast paced. They didn't spend time trying to craft a narrative by giving the player busy work because they wanted rush things along.

    • @ameridris
      @ameridris 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      I think another point to add was budget since RE 8 will be revealed soon and RE 9 is in development... Plus they already spent money on resident evil resistance it was okay and fun, but it didn't receive good feedback as alpha beta so they bundled it with this game :/

    • @gritsandgravy2633
      @gritsandgravy2633 4 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@ameridris - Yeah, good point - Capcom didn't give RE3 Remake the attention it needed because (as usual) they try to overcompensate a lack of content with multiple projects on the horizon. It sacrifices a good game now for the promise of a "better" game later.
      The first 4 numbered entries were excellent because Capcom refused to put out a halfbaked product. RE2 was scrapped after a year of development and RE4 was scrapped twice because Capcom would rather sacrifice time and money than publish a crappy game back then.

    • @Gruntvc

      @Gruntvc 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      @BlankLooks Everywhere, Plus convincing Capcom make Kamiya's build of RE4 into Devil May Cry. Also, delaying RE2 and starting over from scratch. Plus over seeing development of RE3 1999 and pushing that team to add content, content completely cut in this "remake."
      I miss Shinji Mikami.
      Numbers are in, RE3 Remake apparently sold 2 million copies worldwide in its first 5 days, half of those digital.
      But, RE3 Remake failed to meet or surpass the sales of RE2 Remake's release, 3 million. RE3 2020 even failed to match or surpass the launch sales of RE3 1999, 3.5 million.
      Yeah, should've delayed RE3 Remake, Capcom. It's already being outsold and played by Final Fantasy VII Remake and Animal Crossing New Horizon.
      Why didn't they delay and release it in May? The only big game for that month got indefinitely delayed, The Last of Us 2.
      Better yet, delay the RE3 Remake single player for at least a year and add content to the game. They could've still released Project Resistance in April.

    I guess my biggest problem with this game - aside from cutting corners and removing the locations I wanted to see the most (Raccoon City Park and Dead Factory) - is how they butchered Nemesis. He just doesn't come across like the big antagonist of this game. Instead he is just like any other Tyrant now, only with the ability to say "S.T.A.R.S." every now and then. That's because they removed all the iconic scenes he had in the original game. In og RE3, it was Nemesis who killed Brad. It was Nemesis who shot down the chopper that Jill was supposed to escape in. It was also Nemesis who killed Nicholai. No matter how much damage you did to Nemesis, he still kept coming after you. And unlike Birkin, Nemesis never really mutated much until the very end of the game, which was actually pretty clever, because that really showed how little damage you did to this guy.

    All I wanted out of REmake 2 & 3 were more games that were on par with the 1st remake. It's the pinnacle of this series: taking everything about the original game and refined it without compromises to gameplay. It thrusted you into that mansion to decide how to survive it. And that's what I find so offensive about REmake 2 & 3, their unwillingness to fully immerse players into the survivor role.
    Resident Evil, at it's best, is a game about player-driven decision making in a consequence-filled environment. It's a game that asks players to face the unknown with only a finite amount of healing items, ammo, inventory space, and ink ribbons: your means of saving. Not even the ability to save your game is exempt from that fact. A ballsy choice of the devs. Also keep in mind that you'll be doing this without autosaving, spelled out objectives, interaction icons, excessive tutorials, or that insulting/pandering map that keeps track of all things interactive for you.
    What makes REmake 2 & 3's outcomes all the more tragic for me is that I see a lot of potential within for greatness. Maybe the devs misunderstood the franchise's core appeal? Maybe the massive budget AAA games get is a blessing and a curse that forces compromises to maximize profit? I can't forgive them either way. I could go into deeper detail, but don't have the time to do so in a comment. Someday I will.
    I've had this pent up frustration since REmake 2 released. A lot of people give it huge praise and I wanted to be one them. Yet the flaws are far too apparent to ignore for, what feels like only, me. It's a very isolating feeling to bear. I can only hope there are other conflicted RE fans that find my comment to confirm that neither of us are alone in our feelings.
    RE6 almost killed this franchise I grew up with. I'm afraid that REmake 3 will succeed.

      PrideOnInsightGamer I miss soooo much the survival aspect of these games and agree with everything you said, resident evil became so recognized for its great survival and scarce resource management what they did to RE3 remake feels like an insult to the franchise and capcom really owes some respect to Jill and nemesis, after all these classic characters made resident evil relevant as a franchise. I'm so sad about this, at least re1 remake exists so I'll have to play that

    • @nastykactus7993
      @nastykactus7993 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll say I'm biased as a guy who thinks that really loves RE2make and prefers it to the original, but even still I can totally respect the opinion that these two games aren't good remakes in the way the first one was, but I don't think it's fair to say that at least 2, but also even 3 at times completely miss the point of this franchise's core appeal. In fact, the less scripted way a lot of things are handled I think improves it.
      Not only are all of the elements you mentioned still a focus in RE2make, with the only thing I'd call "gratuitous" being the ink ribbons but even then I used up most of them, but if anything I thought the way a lot of encounters like the lickers were handled made the situation much more engaging than the original.
      As opposed to being a scripted, cinematic walk towards obvious danger up ahead, you're often thrust without warning into staring down a lot of the game's new enemy types without any sort of meaningful pause with stuff like a cutscene to try and "scare" the player before the actual gameplay starts. I think in that regard it's hit the nail on the head of a survivor a lot more because instead of focusing too hard on characters constantly crossing paths or stupid decisions logistically it's more about the player choosing the best way to survive and proceed with the situation when wrenches are constantly being thrown into your plans surprisingly.
      Basically I get the comments like atmosphere and all of that, but I think from a game play standpoint these two games have done well to capture the spirit of the original's limited mobility and meaningful decision making in every encounter without going too resident evil 4 to the point where it feels like you have an endless amount of options in every situation, but RE3 definitely feels a bit too linear and generous with ammunition, and I don't feel like those parts get enough credit.

    What bothers me the most is that you cant get the original psx releases anywhere. Only the remakes, which in the case of RE1 it doesnt bother me since the remake is true to the original. But the remaining two are completely diferent games and i think both versions are worth playing. I mean capcom ports all kinds of ps2 and ps1 games for the switch like megaman x and devil may cry. Its almost like if they were embarrassed with the old style.
    I dont know some people might argue that the remakes would loose sales to the classics, which i disagree with. But if thats the argument then what happened with the oldschool tradition of including the old game as an unlockable for the remake. It certainly could've help here as a cheap way of justifying the retail prize, one of the biggest criticism of this game.

    As Nerrel has said if a remake isn't superior in every way to a game made 20 years ago then it can't really be deemed a total success - ReMake was a complete improvement on the original RE1. How can an RE3 game with missing areas, almost inaudible music, less atmosphere and a forgettable(!?) Nemesis be a complete improvement? And the use of OTS camera always seems to turn these games into a kind of RE4/RE6 hybrid.

    I wish Nemesis had spent more time in his original form with the flamethrower and rocket launcher. Of course the game is on the short side just like the original ironically enough. But I wish we could have gotten more with his first form before he turned into the giant licker. Too me that's what he looked like. I would say if you want more true survival horror stick with the Resident evil 2 remake. If you want something that's faster paced and has a little more action/adventure then the Resident evil 3 remake is the way to go. I feel like the the ending was lacking too by the way. Too this day I'm still debating on which is superior, the original Resident evil 2 or the remake. For nostalgia I want to say the original but then I remember that the remake does do some things better. With the original Resident evil and it's remake I thinks it's a pretty clear case that the remake is superior. But with the case of Resident evil 3, I feel that the original is absolutely better then the remake.

    This is the most reasonable look on the game i've seen. you have a better understanding than most but i'd still add some perspective.
    it not being scary makes A LOT of sense.
    1.you're playing a remake of the 3rd game of a series. in which was not originally planned to be horror. but for various reasons that's what they went with.
    2.the main character has already experienced the infection. it would not make sense for her to be terrified of something she has already overcome.
    3.resident evil 3 original wasn't scary most of the time. ignoring the jump scares with nemisis. it was a comfortable game.
    4.it hasn't been long since RE2 remake. were used to the zombies. and they are the same zombies because its the same city,time period and event. them acting differently would be weird.

    • @residenteviltalk
      @residenteviltalk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      i cant really agree with this for me RE3 originally was scary for me but more so its mood, like the beginning intro and invasion of the zombies was absolutely terrifying, and the music was more robust and focused on a dark dismal feeling through the game. Also with the classic games you had better atmosphere alone with fixed camera positioning, the files in the game and descriptions you could find by examining the room, such as the Mercs guy and the girl huddled into a corner, dying holding each other and you read the file on them. there was a lot more focus, less rushed in the original that did give it mood. But was RE3 originally more action than say 1 and 2 were? I agree but that doesnt mean there was hardly any horror, horror the "remake" did leave out.

    The developers said that they'll never go back to the fixed camera angles ever again, because they think that we have moved long past that now. As for this remake, I prefer it's atmosphere over the previous one. I'm mostly a sucker for eye candy, and I love how the game made Racoon City pop out. It's pretty rare to see horror look this way. There were some parts that did give me a good scare here and there, but it seems that 7 scared me more. I was surprised that we didn't get to the part or the clock tower (which I forgot about until you brought it up), but I still liked the changes here. As for the zombies, I don't think that recycling them from part 2 was THAT BAD of a thing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this game suppose to take place at the same night as 2, but just in a different time? So I think it would make some sense to see the same zombies in this one. And before I forget, the zombies in the background that you pointed out reminded me of the news anchor from RE6!

    What really makes me scratch my head is that if their original intention was to make this remake more action focused, and by those mechanics and how generous this game is with ammo reservation it certainly seems so, how come they never thought of including Operation Mad Jackal or adding new extra modes like what developers did with free DLC's in RE2 remake. I mean Resistance isn't really the best platform to showcase these mechanics on. It really seems like a clunky short burst multiplayer mode that might not justify its longevity. Heck, there are still people getting a kick out of Raid mode in Revelations games. Not to mention Mercenaries mode in any RE game that's included with. RE3 remake being more action focused isn't really an issue, but not including any extra mode to properly showcase these mechanics, other than an uninteresting multiplayer component, really seems like they could have had a better resource management. But it can be easily fixed with updates and DLC's if Capcom can put resources on to. RE6 may not be a good game by RE standards, but at least it had a huge amount of content to justify its original price value.

    Also, after they annouced RE 8, wich game do you think they will remake after him : 4 or vironica chronicles ?

    •  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think Veronica X needs a remake even more.

      @@abdelkaderghalem3698 I heard someone saying it before that before remaking a good game, companies should try to remake bad ones so their game should be up standarts. But money talks.

    One thing I'd disagree with you on is the boss battles. Nemesis was such a pushover in this game since the dodge mechanic made it very easy to evade his big lumbering meat mitts. When he transformed he really didn't become much better, as I ran around the arena figuring out what to do whilst treating him like more of a nuisance than a threat since he couldn't even touch me. At least Mr X was significant enough to make you replan your approach to a situation on the fly depending on when he showed up, and you could down him only if you felt like that it was really necessary.
    Overall this game is fine by itself but unlike RE2 I would have to question why it's even a remake when it stepped on all of the best parts of the original like an over-eager dominatrix. It's fine for a remake to reimagine the original, but that would constitute something new and substantial coming out of the remake, like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories or Metroid: Zero Mission. RE3 remake may have been an interesting, if short, experience, but it pales in comparison to the original which I don't feel is true for the RE2 remake.
    I think the big thing is that as their own games with their own merits, I prefer RE2 remake to RE3 remake. When finishing RE2 remake I was immediately excited to go back through again on a higher difficulty with all the new information I had. When finishing RE3 remake, I went back to Animal Crossing and called it a day. As you said, it is what it is, and compared to the A+ output of Capcom in the past few years, it's still quite disappointing.

    You do have to ask on why capcom decided to remove the replayable elements of these reimaginings. 2 by taking away a proper A and B scenerio. 3 making taking away the braching choices

    Speaking of reused assets, the orange car Jill hits Nemesis with at the beginning of the game is actually Ethan's car in RE7 with a recolor.

      When considering a Remake as a Remake, it's only fair that the original must be taken into account in regards to one's opinion.
      Otherwise, by just looking at the Remake by its own merits, playing the original isn't as necessary.

    i just wanted another game with some of that metroidvania style level design and interconnectedness of REmake and the RE2 remake, in that regard this game completely fell flat, if they had connected some of the areas together in some meaningful way and given some incentive to backtrack and spend a little more time in the world along with one or two more locations i think the game could have been a solid 8/10 instead of a 6.5
