  • ◉ Intermittent fasting is a diet strategy that involves alternating periods of eating and extended fasting (meaning no food at all or very low calorie consumption).
◉There are 4 popular fasting approaches: periodic fasting, time-restricted feeding, alternate-day fasting and the 5:2 diet.
◉Time-restricted feeding, sometimes called daily intermittent fasting, is perhaps the easiest and most popular fasting method.
◉Daily intermittent fasters restrict eating to certain time periods each day, say 11 in the morning to 7 at night. The fasting period is usually around 12 or more hours that, helpfully, includes time spent sleeping overnight.
◉Periodic fasting will feel most familiar: no food or drinks with calories for 24-hour periods.
◉ Another type of fast, alternate-day fasting requires severe calorie reduction every other day.
◉ Lastly, the 5:2 method was popularized by author Kate Harrison’s book “The 5:2 Diet" and requires fasting on two nonconsecutive days a week.
👨🏻‍⚕️🩺 Dr. Jason Fung is a Canadian nephrologist and functional medicine advocate who promotes a low-carbohydrate high-fat diet and intermittent fasting.Fung disputes the current saturated fat guidelines.
Fung is an author of many low-carbohydrate diet books. His first book, The Complete Guide to Fasting, co-authored by Jimmy Moore was published in fall 2016 and offered insight to all aspects of fasting culture.
The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code were subsequently published in 2016 and 2018. His book The Obesity Code Cookbook was published in 2019. In 2021, Fung co-authored The Diabetes Code Cookbook with Alison Maclean. In 2020, Fung co-authored with naturopath Nadia Brito Pateguana The PCOS Plan: Prevent and Reverse Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Through Diet and Fasting. His book The Cancer Code, published in 2020 advocates intermittent fasting and a low-carbohydrate diet to reduce cancer risk.

Lbenyo79 is most likely correct. For some people (myself included) it is necessary for your to periodically change your diet because their bodies adapt to what they are doing to lose weigh and theor weight loss stalls or they even start gaining weight! Try just maintaining your weight as close as you cab but add things you aren't currently eating. Basically change up your diet and eating timings Do this for a few weeks. then, go back to the things you were eating before, and you will probably restart your weight loss. This works for me. Lost 35 lbs, then got stuck...have taken a month of just maintaining and now I have gone back to what I was doing ( low carb, high in good fats,16/8 intermittent fasting) and I it seems to be working again.

I have been doing intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet for about 4 months. I have lost about 25 pounds. I know I am getting healthier. I plan to try to do this for the rest of my life....I'm so sad that our doctors and our FDA, NIH, CDC, and medical schools are not really supporting true health and seem to be slaves to economic factors.

My case is similar to yours. I started this journey in the first week of May 2024. Today July 1, I'm down 26 pounds. I started with Keto and 48 hour fasting. I'm now on OMAD with some dietary restrictions. Buy what I eat is delicious, health😢 and filling.
My skin is softer, I'm down 2 sizes in tops and bottoms. I couldn't be happier and will forever be careful with WHAT I eat and WHEN I eat/ splurge... It's a moderate splurge. I find even a small treat is MORE than satisfying and sometimes I wish I had not even eaten it.
My feeding schedule has been flexible. I plateaued and figured pretty quickly what 8 had to do to break it; Then I immediately lost four pounds.

Nov 17 I sat in my car and thought should I call an ambulance or just go ahead and die. Everything, health wise was hitting me, it seemed all at once.
    I didn't die.
At home I ran across a TH-cam video that pointed to all my symptoms. That guy didn't focus on the symptoms, he focused on the cause: fatty liver-insulin resistance.
Solution for starters High fat/low carb and fasting 16/8.
I tried it. By last week I was out in the cold shoveling snow.
Just thinking back 2 1/2 months ago, I couldn't walk from my house to my car without resting halfway. The same day I asked, "am I going to die today?"
It goes against all the teachings, but there's too much evidence to deny it any longer.

A while back I tried plant based whole food diet. Hoping to lose weight and get healthier. Did that for quite some time with zero positive results, and no weight loss whatsoever. Then I started hearing about keto/carnivore from some drs on TH-cam. Ken Berry and Neisha, Shawn Baker, Anthony Chaffee and Kiltz were a few. After following their advice I’ve lost over 74 pounds and am continuing forward to drop another 30-40 more pounds! At this point I feel fabulous, better than I have in decades! Also listening to Jason Fung got me started in thinking differently about carbs, which went along with Keto/Carnivore. After reading Dr Fungs book on fasting, I was all in! 🎉 I’ve done this, and continue to do so😊and I am a testament to the fact that it works! I feel and look so healthy now compared to all those years carrying around all that awful load! Listen, Learn, and carry it through! This works!!! ❤🎉

I started intermittent fasting 16:8, about 6 weeks ago. I am flabbergasted with how well it works, how much better I feel, how much weight I’ve lost, the disappearance (complete disappearance) of cravings, and that I am never…never hungry or hangry. All these years of gaining and losing weight only to discover the easiest thing ever…AND, I haven’t implemented exercise yet. Exercise is definitely next but fasting does work - for me. I do believe I’ll always fast from this point on.

I totally stop carbs in take coming from rice and stop sugar consumption. Reduce fructose by having avocados and boiled eggs instead. Had a moderate fish and chicken and consumed vegetables cooked with just 0:36 garlic and added shrimps or pork. Did walking for half an hour every
morning. Consumed cabbage with applecider vinegar. My glucose reading falls from approx 9.something to an ave of 5 for just 1 month and my hbaic reading is 6.2 wc is excellent now only with 1/3 of 3 months average. Hopefully will still go down
Next 3 months bloodwork. I feel great and my tummy lost fats i know since my pants is falling if i will not adjust my belt for abt 2
Inches tighter. Hope this i did will be of help to everyone who wants to reverse type 2 diabetis and i wish to add that i did eliminated my prescribed medicine to present. God bless us all diabetics.

Dr Jason Fung, I disagree with you on one thing.... the white bread throws my blood sugar over 300 even with 1 peice, however a candy bar only brings it to 225 so I don't think the sugar is as dangerous as the white bread and rice. I have noticed if I add lots of vegtables the blood sugar doesn't get thrown way high with the bread and rice however it still reaches about the same as a candy bar around 225

I would look into carnivore - Dr Anthony Chaffee is one but there are many doctors involved. Dr Shawn Baker . Professor Bart Kay . Combining it with fasting and lifting heavy should move you along. My problem is sugar addiction so I know why I fail . Zero sugar - perhaps even zero sweetener . Zero carbs .Only meat from ruminant animals. The doctors claim that even 95 % compliancy will not suffice for some - Must be 100% zero carb. Good luck.

I tried the keto diet and was only able to do it for 2 weeks. I limited my daily carb intake to 20g and got constipated so bad that I had to stop!
I have lost 57kg 20 years back following a calorie restricted high carb, low fat and moderate protein diet. I was only able to maintain my weight for 5 years. Now I have done IF (daily 18:6 and a weekly 36 hour), again low fat, moderate protein and high carbs and lost 52kg over 8 months.
My point is .. I want to go onto a keto lifestyle combined with IF .. but .. how do I prevent the constipation?
    1. Is there something I miss?
    2. Something I don't know?
I don't want to take supplements or laxatives for the constipation!??

Have you tried to go for walks, even just 20 minutes, after each meal? It may help burn off the sugar in your body after meals... A lot of these videos say that we have to add regular exercise too, to get the best benefit. Just walking 30 minutes a day makes a tremendous improvement in our health, they say.

I recently tried to go without carb for 2 days, fasting blood sugar dropped from 140 to 98. Then ate 100gm of beef, 2 eggs, small portions of steam broccoli & bell peppers, and 1/4 of a plain bagel. One hr later, tested 160mg/dl glucose. That 1/4 bagel is so dangerous. Don't underestimate the hidden danger of carb, no matter how little consumed.

Gradually (over 1-2 weeks) reduce sugar.
Your friend is addicted to sugar. This includes not just sweet desserts but also bread, pasta, pizza, potatoes in all forms and rice - and my favourite: baguette.
Eating some healthy high fat helps. Some suggestions: walnuts, roast avocado in olive oil or bacon fat (so delicious!), whip double cream 35% - which is 0 sugar- yet sweet tasting with berries.
Would highly recommend a lecture by Dr. Pradip Jamnadas, especially on why people cannot fast or keep diets. He calls us "sugar junkies" and explains what to do and why.
To be honest: difficult for the first month but SO worthwhile and does get easier.

It would be helpful if you just give key points of things to go rather than listening to loads of stuff that might not be relevant to me.
You telling us to fast from 11am - 7pm? That’s the time when we do eat.
I don’t want to rain on your parade but it would be helpful you tell us what to do first. Then you can elaborate for those people who want to hear that.
Just the clear points of what works.
I eat quite healthily and low carb most of the time but I have times of binge eating because I then crave carbs.
How do you avoid those cravings for carbs when you avoiding them?
