Some of us can’t even eat veg carbs. I went carnivore, lost 64 lbs and reversed my pre-diabetes. Hormone doc told me to stop eating so much meat and add back in some veg. Gained 20lbs, A1C back up to 5.9 from 5.4, and fasting glucose is high now. My body also hurts, and I’m having night sweats again. I am going back to carnivore.

I've listened to this twice. You are both such kind and caring professionals. I laughed at Dr. Fung's rendition of the Kempner rice and sugar diet. My thoughts exactly! I'm maintaining a 65 lb loss since 2010. Now, at 68, I'm moving to IF and am feeling such freedom in not having to think about food all day long! Completely new mindset. Thank you to both of you.

I was amazed to find eating carbs and lowering fat actually cause me to loose weight. I used to fast and lost some weight. And hair. Now using macros and finally getting the success I've been craving since I read The Obesity Code. Oh, and I thought I was addicted to sugar too but turns out I just needed to actually be accountable for what I am eating and eat enough protein and carbs to provide adequate nutrition. Calorie deficits come in many forms.

Intermittent fasting is extremely beneficial and cutting out sugar and refined carbohydrates add more benefits. I am 86 years old and was in the prediabetic range. Now after 9months I have lost 25 pounds of weight and my bloodwork shows I am no longer prediabetic, triglycerides are way down HDL is up LDLs are 62 and 63 . I feel absolutely great. I will continue to try to get my A1c down more it is 5.9 and I want to get it down to 5.5 or below. Unfortunately Drs do not order fasting Insulin levels which would be beneficial, but I can do without. Thanks Dr. Fung, a year ago I listened to one of your podcasts and then right away bought your book about fast
    ing, what an eye opener!!!

I started intermittent fasting 16:8 - I started eating at 10:00, finished at 4:00. At the beginning it was difficult. Now, 10 months later, I am so not hungry anymore that I often finish eating at 2 or earlier. Sometimes I could eat just once a day out of hunger, but I eat twice because I like to eat! Lol!

I'm 65, I'm recently diabetic... I'm using Berberine. And I've been losing weight and my morning blood glucose is going down. Recently I added intermittent fasting... it's not as hard as I thought it would be. But sometimes I don't. I think it is something you need to do intermittently. I think IF is much better than trying to follow a diet (my favorite 4 letter word). But I'm not in a hurry to lose weight. I just want to be able to keep it off.

One reason there is so much idiocy surrounding this, is that the generl public simply refuses to acknowledge the well established fact, that fructose is addictive. If we talk about fructose consumption in that context (as an addictive substance) then everything Dr. Fung is talking about is just patently obvious.
Fasting is a proven mechanism for helping fructose addicts break that addiction. It is as simple as that.

I know Dr. Fung knows this, but higher insulin levels do not make you hungrier, the problem is that fructose is a leptin antagonist. Leptin is the prinary neurological satiety hormon. So when your insulin levels rise in concert with fructose consumption, your brain is essentially unaware that you've eaten.
The issue is that any one on the SAD has high insulin in concert with high fructose (fructose does not increase blood sugar of course but fructose is consumed in excessive quantities at the same time as glucose when on the SAD).

So, what happens when someone is just not hungry? I’m not hungry or snacking at all. I’m carnivore. I don’t eat carbs. But the weight just won’t budge. I’m lifting weights 5 days a week and walking to reach 10k steps + every day. I need help. A dr offered Ozempic, but like I said, I don’t need to control hunger. I’m hyperinsulinemic (diagnosed by dr with blood tests). I’m overweight and need to drop 30 pounds (fat).

@susans.magallanes3861 It's four years that I use variations of fasting. I don't measure lean mass directly, however I have improved both runinng and lifting performance. Fasting gives me clarity and focus, which in turn helps me with motivation for working out more and more consistently. As for hair loss, no sign of it.

He's talked about salt and electrolytes. Gotta watch more and pay attention. Loud and wrong is not cute. Those who have studied this subject with Drm Fung and Dr. Berg know all about getting your electrolytes including salt and potassium. Healthy keto is making sure you get your 7-10cups of green leafy veggies daily. And some ppl have to build up their veg intake because they don't have enough gut bacteria to break it down properly. We know what to do though. You tried it.

Let me tell you J..Fung, I am not that fellow, yet I am doing very similar thing - 5 to 7 day fast and I'm not overweight. You're completely clueless about long-term benefists of prolonged fasting? "I do this for long term longevity benefits of which Dr. Fung has zero idea"
It is you who doesn't have any idea what you're talking about. Dr. Fung actually talks about the same long term benefits of fasting on his TH-cam channel that you're talking about. If you weren't so ignorant and easily triggered, you'd know that Fung knows about and actually supports the things you're talking about, but instead, you've shown everyone how ignorant you are.
Fung in this video is talking about people who has unrealistic expectations of fasting without understanding what it's supposed to do and how it applies to their own body. Yes there's autophagy, but for people who only care about losing weight, they'll say that "fasting doesn't work" because it doesn't achieve the results they're looking for. The mechanism of fasting depletes fats because that's how it works, so if you're lean and muscular, of course you're going to get different results than someone who is obese because the person who is lean barely has any body fat at all.
It's actually very embarrassing for you to talk the way you did about someone who knows about and supports the things you're talking about. Very shameful and humiliating.
