Yes I did keto first and lost 75 pounds which was only like 5 pounds a month and now I’m second month doing carnivore my got issues are gone. I’m able to go to the bathroom every two days now before it was awful. All I can say is I’m never going back. They lied to me all those years and I’m 70. I started at 67 so it’s not too late do something for your brain and for your heart and your gut issues, thank you so much for your videos. I appreciate it. I follow a lot of the carnivore doctors all the good information. They have people think I’m crazy because they don’t eat any of the stuff that they put out. I had salami stuff like that. The people brought deviled eggs, but I’m not messing this up because I finally got it where it needs to be.❤
This is a conversation I always revisit. I use it as a reminder that there are so many variables involved in creating good metabolic health. Keep on going. You can do it.
Whilst he is undoubtedly an incredible expert I feel frustrated that he didn’t answer the question about WHAT to eat / yes fish and meat - but then bananas are a no because they brown - I don’t want to do carnivore / happy to do keto but do any of you have a link to more succinct resources ? Thank you so much in advance if you do - I am in Tasmania Australia for reference 🙏🏻
I did a google search and it had Robert Lustig's cookbook and it laid it out really well. Basically it was real food - half plate veggies, then meat and starch. I found the whole book for free online because he released it during covid for free. Hope that helps!
This is fabulous. I love that there are finally some validity to women’s claims about “hormone fat” insulin is a hormone. It is hard to lose weight when insulin resistant.
I think best compliance is learning how to cook! I have 2 sauce recipes for veggie stir fries and then make my own salad dressings. Very healthy and manageable long term. Way better then junk food and quick food at the restaurants.
Ngl, this is yet another reason why I'd only ever homeschool. I've seen the nasty junk served by the vast majority of schools. Senator Amy Klobuchar even fought for pizza sauce to be classified as one of the "vegetables" in school lunches; and only changed her position when she wanted to run for president and people were calling out her ridiculous, anti-nutritional nonsense. No school will ever care about our children the way we as parents will.
I found out about the movie "Fed Up" while reading Dr. Hyman's resume. I watched the movie and enjoyed the presentation. I thought both of you were the stars of the movie because your work fighting metabolic dysfunction lead to this movie and the movement to get us all healthy. Thanks.
I totally agree. Why do you have this dr Robert on if you keep interrupting him? We know you know. This is for us. Not you. We realize you know. Get over yourself!
This world is flooded with imperfections since the beginning of time and probably always will be. So, just do the best you can and enjoy your life while we are here. ❤️
I admit more than half of this went way over my head but I did appreciate Mark consistently trying to reword things so I could understand some of it and dumb it down for me…325 lbs full blown diabetes horrible neuropathy making my arms and legs constantly feel like I am plugged into electricity. I finally got continuous glucose monitor…really an eye opener but I am sad to admit I still don’t really understand insulin and how it works. 😂 thanks such great information!
I'm not sure if you have heard of him yet but if not, but if not please look up Dr. Jason Fung. Watch some of his videos, especially lectures. He breaks down how insulin works in the body better than many others. I couldn't understand it until I started watching his videos.
A family member developed PTSD and started smoking at 14. They were able to quit 8 yrs ago. They recently had angioplasty, and on the table, the cardiologist said not 1 blockage and they're I'D say 35 pounds overweight ,but they grew up eating healthy from their vegetable garden a lot of fish , sardines and chicken. They are now 86 and healthy.
"Angioplasty is a procedure used to open blocked coronary arteries caused by coronary artery disease. It restores blood flow to the heart muscle without open-heart surgery. Angioplasty can be done in an emergency setting, such as a heart attack." "Coronary artery disease is caused by plaque buildup in the wall of the arteries that supply blood to the heart (called coronary arteries). Plaque is made up of cholesterol deposits. Plaque buildup causes the inside of the arteries to narrow over time. This process is called atherosclerosis."
Hi Dr. Mark- this has nothing to do with the podcast . I' ve listened to multiple podcasts over the hears and have heard about your rather prolonged health challenges . Can ngrats on your persostence and n fighting for your health. Ive noticed you have done a fair amount of travelling- Bhutan, Sardinia, mongolia, the Masai tribe. I am glad you have been able to travel . I get the sense that the travel has been a very joyfull experience you. You certainly deserve it after what you have been through- mercury pousoning, C Diff, back surgeries.... I am glad you seem so happy
The irony is that I have always aimed to have a Low GI diet to ensure my insulin spikes are kept at a minimum and it has always been a blessing. Only the last few years after starting eating high GI foods I've realised the negative impact on my weight and health.
Wow! Ya'll are awesome! That is so educational! How exciting to hear two people so passionate about resolving the root cause of our biggest health issues! Thanks! You are heros!
I was looking at all the cerals the other day. All of them had sugar, fat and salt in the top ingredients. Even Kellogs Rice Krispies are designed to be addictive. However they are heavily fortified like a multivitamin...
Food chemists design them to have a "Bliss Point" (THEIR name for it!) They WANT food to be addictive. I used to be obese when I was eating allegedly "healthy" food. . . now I've maintained a healthy BMI by eating REAL food.
Dr. Hyman, how did you detox the patient from mercury? I've had mercury fillings removed, ,and have felt awful ever since. Do you have a video on this? Can you link it here? Thanks so much for the work you do.
I thought this was an overall very good and informative video. I decided to check out Dr. Lustig's product "Munch Munch", and I was surprised to see carrageenan in the ingredients list. He made the point later in the video that carrageenan and other product additives are detrimental to health. Why should his product include it?
Problem with this, while very informative, is the lack of useful discussion of what type of dietary intake you need to head towards to achieve lower insulin. Yes, they talk about how processed food is bad for you, but what exactly are the types of things should make up our diet to help us reach our goals. There’s too much why and not enough how in this video. Even Lustig says he’s changed his mind in the last 2 or 3 years about what he thinks is important.
OK, I agree. I would suggest if you buy packaged food limit to to two maximum three ingredients. Don't buy processed oils. Don't eat sugar. If you have to use sweetners, maybe use stevia. Don't eat regularly potatoes, bread, pasta, cake, biscuits, and chips/crisps. Eat a salad with oil vingar dressing for lunch every day and skip breakfast five days a week. Have your evening meal before 7 pm, then only coffee/tea until lunch the next day. Eat meat and fish with green veg and low density veg with every evening meal. If you have to snack, use pistachios, walnuts, or brasil nuts. Eat lesser sweet fruits with Kefir as deserts. Lastly, treats are OK but should be occasional treats. Cook all your own food and eat out as a special occasion. If your drinking alcohol limit it to weekends and favour wine over beer and watch the volume. I've done this, and it's changed everything.
Thank you for all your hard work and for explaining everything so clearly. I find these pod casts so interesting and l informative. Keep up the good work. Sharon UK
We have terrible trouble with violent young teenagers here in Australia and I am sure it is sugar and highly refined food that is causing it. Devolution of society it certainly is.
Amazing stuff, eye opening medical conversation about the food and its importance to the humankind to mitigate the metabolic diseases like insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity etc. Thanks a lot both of you for making us to understand the importance of it 🙏🙏
I’m diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. Eat an anti inflammatory diet. Literally NO sugar and low carb, intermittent fast, Get sun exposure and exercise regularly. Even with meds and natural supplements My blood sugar is still borderline diabetes. And I can’t lose weight no matter what I do. I can’t figure out why??plus My T3 is not converting to T4. I’m stumped.
Question: are you male or female ? If you are female the drop in estrogen in perimenopause/ menopause can cause insulin resistance. Also T3 is the ACTIVE form of the thyroid hormone T4 is inactive form . Did you mean T4 is not being converted to T3?? If this is what you meant , I think this reaction requires selenium( not sure) . I have thyroid problems but Hashimotos is not my issue. Dr. Ridha Arem has written a book called the Thyroid Solution that I recommend. Are you on thyroid meds? What is your TSH?? For some people ( like me) who had my thyroid removed and can't efficiently convert T4 to T3 , I take a combination of meds, one med that is pure T4 and one med that is pure T3. T3 only can be too overstimulating . Good luck.
@@lindajones4849 I'm female. Yes sorry- I meant T4 TO T3 Conversion. My estrogen has been checked and looks ok. I am on Tirosint 50/75 mcg and a natural med that has T3 in it. And I east brazil nuts to the point that my selenium is high, so I backed off for a while. Not sure what to do but Thank you for the comment!
Hey there! I’m a 57 year old female and I take synthroid for my thyroid. My weight loss did not start happening until I incorporated fasting with low carb eating. The drop in estrogen will sometimes make women insulin resistant and that was the case for me. I did fasting gradually by first eliminating breakfast, went to OMAD, and this month I’m fasting all day on M, W, and F. This has been a game changer for me. I hope this helps.
Agreed. I like Mark Hyman, but I struggle to watch him with guests for any length of time due to this interuppting. It’s almost as if he is insecure about his knowledge on the subject matter and attempting to show that he knows as much about the topic as his guest.
I was a 10 lb baby and was metabolically messed up. Allergies to most foods. Had to be fed soy. Had cradlecap, jaundice. I;ve had blepharitis forever and excezma to some extent. Even after changing my lifestyle. Mom was messed up for sure. She later got cancer, survived and is still fighting weigh retention. Very complex topic but it all comes back to natural, intact, caveman/basic foods. Not no carbs, not all meat, not all veg. But you sure can try any version and pretty good. Just supplement with most versions. Some would say you shouldn't have to. Well if you grow your own on a farm with great cow fertilizer and great soil you might be able to. Good luck if you neighbor is slinging the roundup everywhere.
What I found most interesting was when my husband was diagnosed with insulin resistance he was very thin and fit. BUT he was eating way to much sugar, carbs drinking orange juice etc. Going on the keto protocol worked well for him.
I don't understand how stress works. There was a time in my life when i was super thin and extremely stressed and lost more weight. Does it shift once you get over 40? Stressed and stop losing weight?
It sounds frustrating when the host interrupts the guest too often. I kindly suggest addressing this issue to enhance the listening experience even further. I love your content tho! Great content! Keep smashing it. Peace
I am so confused. . . If you “cannot” lose weight unless insulin is low”, how do the McDougallers say to eat high starch, mostly potatoes, etc., how are they so slim? I welcome your responses and clarification please. God bless!!
From what I gather of all these medical professionals is- it’s all specific to one’s makeup. What works for one doesn’t for another. It could be confusing because the way they relay their message makes it seem like you should follow their advice, nutritional information, etc…
Mainly it come down to the processed foods, that's what all they podcasts have in common. We've been eating potatoes for thousands of years. It's not the potato that does it, it's the processed foods that are doing it.
Because this video is sadly misinformation, and look at the guy giving advice--he is very overweight. Calories in = Calories out will always make up the MAJORITY of weight loss. Insulin has a small factor in this but is not the deciding factor; hence why yes you can literally eat twinkies and doritos (search up the professor who did the Twinkie Diet) and lose weight while increasing health markers! I'm surprised to see this video published,
This is a great detailed explanation on weight loss, guys. And it’s so true there are so many factors that can contribute to stalling the process - it’s a minefield. For me, I feel that my problem has always been facing higher cortisol levels, lower testosterone levels, and metabolic adaptation after weeks or months of trying any kind of diet with caloric restriction. One great thing I’ve tried over the past year that has worked wonders is standardized hot-water Tongkat Ali root extract. Just 2 capsules (400mg) a day over the course of a few months has helped keep my stress (cortisol) levels low and my hormone levels in balance even in light of attempting things like caloric restriction + intense workouts. Even better, my metabolism’s never felt more efficient. Gonna keep on it and see how far I can take it.
I've struggled with a food addiction, especially towards sugar. There were times when I'd wake up in the middle of the night intending to get a glass of water, only to find myself indulging in chocolate cake or dipping into a jar of Nutella. In the past, I used to consume large Redbulls and Toblerones throughout the day. However, I've made positive changes and shifted my focus to a healthier addiction: playing badminton and jogging. Anyways I was curious when I saw this, is this Tongkat Ali extract a supplement? And if does claim to do things as you say, I'd like to try it for myself!
It's great stuff, man. If you don't live in Malaysia (where the best stuff is), brands like AKARALI also deliver internationally. Very useful for when you travel a lot for work!
Luckily Couric's movie Fed Up was here in theaters years ago and had a huge impact on me. However, it took me ten years to sort it all out, thanks in large part to researchers/doctors like Lustig, Hyman, Attia, Phinney & Volek, Fung, Mutzel, Gundry, Bredesen, Bozworth, Berry, Bikman, Cummins, Ekberg, Fallon, Rheaume-Bleue, Perlmutter, Davis, Pelz, and more ...
You came back from where?? Tanzania??? Is there a continent you haven't visited? Just st kidding, really I'm glad you have had the opportunity to travel so much..
I have listened to the podcasts about GLP1 and read some touching comments from diabetes who have lost massive amounts of weight and have their glucose under control. So the drug sounded great and I don't blame people for trying it. Then I found some comments from people who said the GI side effects almost killed them . One woman said she couldn't eat for 5 days and fortunately the neighbors called an ambulance ( ? GI blockage). Took the lady months to recover, partially due to muscle loss. It would be great if they had some wayof telling who was at high risk for GI side effects. I agree with one comment that there will eventually law suits against these drugs. I agree be sure the docs want to keep people on forever and the longer you stay on a drug, the more side effects are more likely to materialize.
I truly appreciate this interview and the work both of these doctors are doing. There’s still conflicting information. Dr. Lustig stated in this interview that we should avoid emulsifiers and specifically named carrageenan as on of them. Yet, the Monch Monch product he promotes in this same video contains carrageenan. I do agree with eating whole, single ingredient foods as the best solution for health.
Look for for natural foods, like what your ancient ancestors ate, not modern processed stuff. And if you're trying to lose weight, choose low-carb foods (you can find the carb level of most foods by googling it). I used to be obese and I used to have hypertension, but now I'm a healthy BMI and I have perfect blood pressure. Some natural foods are only good as treats. For instance, honey and maple syrup are natural and ancestral, _BUT_ they used to be special treats, they weren't foods our ancestors could eat every day. Avoid processed sugar and grains. Also, beware -- don't let companies trick you with "net carbs". "Net carbs" usually exclude sugar alcohols despite the fact that those SHOULD count as carbs. Look for "total carbs".
Thank you Dr. Robert . It is such an eye opener for me.. and have Chaned what I eat and what I will give my children from now on.. only the good food:)

The people brought deviled eggs, but I’m not messing this up because I finally got it where it needs to be.❤
Hyman & Lustig
Tag Team Champions of the World.
I am such a long time fan of both you Dr. Hyman and Dr. Lustig. Thank you for all you both do, and especially for "Fed Up."
Am hanging at the edge of my seat listening to the expert guest about to explain a key finding and the interviewer INTERRUPTS. SOOOOO ANNNNOYING
He’s not “an interviewer” he’s an expert in his own right. You’re getting useful info from them both.
My two absolutely favorite doctors in one video, I am so here for it!
I am so glad that the changes in the school lunch system are starting to happen. ❤ This is core issue making the kids addicted from early age.
No school will ever care about our children the way we as parents will.
coffee is not addictive to me, but then again neither is alcohol, sugar definitely is to me :)
I found out about the movie "Fed Up" while reading Dr. Hyman's resume. I watched the movie and enjoyed the presentation. I thought both of you were the stars of the movie because your work fighting metabolic dysfunction lead to this movie and the movement to get us all healthy. Thanks.
Thank you
On my short list to watch
There is a Fed Up website… also it’s similar to Cereal
Killers, Overfed and Undernourished and That Sugar film, all worth a watch.
I totally agree. Why do you have this dr Robert on if you keep interrupting him? We know you know. This is for us. Not you. We realize you know. Get over yourself!
2 of my most favorite doctors in town! ❤😊
This world is flooded with imperfections since the beginning of time and probably always will be. So, just do the best you can and enjoy your life while we are here. ❤️
Omg Dr Hyman stop interrupting with all your glories. Please have another podcast fir that
Always thanks a lots to both of you, very respectfully!
Keep on Keepin' on. You will soon find what works for you in this fight for energy, lean body mass, and enjoyment in healthy food choices .❤
I wish you success and health! ❤
By the way, your dog is adorable! 🐕🐶🐾
I'm not sure if you have heard of him yet but if not, but if not please look up Dr. Jason Fung. Watch some of his videos, especially lectures. He breaks down how insulin works in the body better than many others. I couldn't understand it until I started watching his videos.
You don’t have to understand it. Just follow his advice cut out all the carb and it will turn around.
Angioplasty can be done in an emergency setting, such as a heart attack."
"Coronary artery disease is caused by plaque buildup in the wall of the arteries that supply blood to the heart (called coronary arteries). Plaque is made up of cholesterol deposits. Plaque buildup causes the inside of the arteries to narrow over time. This process is called atherosclerosis."
Huh???
awesome, thank you for bringing Lustig on!
Mark you are a Great interviewer. !!! THANKS
Thank you. Great conversation! So enlightening on multiple levels. Thie info is so dense. This could be broken down into many shorts.
Humbleness is a virtue, Mark, and Dr. Lustig is an epitome of the humbleness.
Wow! Ya'll are awesome! That is so educational! How exciting to hear two people so passionate about resolving the root cause of our biggest health issues! Thanks!
You are heros!
Straus organic ice cream has no carrageenan or guar gum.
Check your labels - especially in dairy.
Skillful interviewing. Great content, and Mark is an adroit translator of the medical terms and concepts.
Really appreciate you guys. This dhould be taught in schools. Thanks again
I was looking at all the cerals the other day. All of them had sugar, fat and salt in the top ingredients. Even Kellogs Rice Krispies are designed to be addictive. However they are heavily fortified like a multivitamin...
Food chemists design them to have a "Bliss Point" (THEIR name for it!)
They WANT food to be addictive. I used to be obese when I was eating allegedly "healthy" food. . . now I've maintained a healthy BMI by eating REAL food.
This was insane!wow wow wow. Thankyou so much for this brilliant nutrition/science marathon. Love to you❤
Thank you so much for such an informative talk.
Both of you have helped me save my life!!TYVM!! 🙏⚡️💪😎🤗
@@tonyprice1526 very nice ❤
Agree with Tony Price. I did the same and change my life.
We’re all driving off the cliff with insulin resistance only for you amazing guys!!! ❤❤❤❤
Whan an amazing human being Dr Lustig is. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge with us!
This was one of those interviews where I constantly said omg wow. Wow, such an informative interview. I have learnt so much.
Wonderful and necessary interview. Thank You!
Great video. Thank you gentlemen.
Great Convo!
Thank you , very informative !!!!
A good rule of thumb - don't buy/eat anything with a food ingredient label. He is missing that PUFAs also upset the ion ratio - effect the ROS switch.
This is truly so educational and I really appreciate
Thank you for all your hard work and for explaining everything so clearly. I find these pod casts so interesting and l informative. Keep up the good work. Sharon UK
Thank you for the translation Mark!
Fascinating! Thank you for putting this information out!
Thanks very much two great, wonderful scientists. Top notch conversation.
We have terrible trouble with violent young teenagers here in Australia and I am sure it is sugar and highly refined food that is causing it. Devolution of society it certainly is.
I feel so sorry for the kids yes it's the pollution and chemicals...the life now is not worth living
My 2 faves! I have all of Lustigs books and a few of Hymans.. and have introduced them to many in my pharmacy practice over the years
I am confused. He says carrageenan is a no but it’s one of the 3 ingredients in his monch monch….
Amazing stuff, eye opening medical conversation about the food and its importance to the humankind to mitigate the metabolic diseases like insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity etc. Thanks a lot both of you for making us to understand the importance of it 🙏🙏
Great Interview!
Good luck.
Sleep well, reduce stress, exercise more, do a programme to look at your blood glucose via cgm but supported - there are several I think
Have you fasted?
Thank you Dr Lusting
As a nurse, I’d love to find a doctor like these two, in my area, to work for.
what a treat!!! thanks so much xx
I hope Dr Mark Hyman is ok. He looks unwell. Prayers for him!🙏
He's breathing heavy isn't he
THANK YOU. It is a lot to think about.
What I found most interesting was when my husband was diagnosed with insulin resistance he was very thin and fit. BUT he was eating way to much sugar, carbs drinking orange juice etc. Going on the keto protocol worked well for him.
Oh wow. These two together??? AMAZING!!!!!!!
Fiber constipates me whether cooked or raw. Will Lustig’s product have the same effect on me?
What kind of fiber? Start with just a little and consume with lots of water.
I don't understand how stress works. There was a time in my life when i was super thin and extremely stressed and lost more weight. Does it shift once you get over 40? Stressed and stop losing weight?
Agreed, I think the hormones shift as we age and stress cause weight gain now that we are older
Yes. Entering menopause caused weight gain.
Eat live food! All local grocery stores sells dead food soil health is human health
I appreciate this discussion. But, please don't interrupt the guest while he is speaking. You can add your points to it after he finished talking.
It sounds frustrating when the host interrupts the guest too often. I kindly suggest addressing this issue to enhance the listening experience even further. I love your content tho! Great content! Keep smashing it. Peace
I love both of you! Please continue this kind of content.
@@yvonnel7777 that’s so true. So how can we find out what works for “us”? Ugh, so confused with all of these doctors!!😏
I hear you but, to add to the confusion, both ideas work. Keep researching and tweaking your diet and you'll figure what works for you.
And Dr. Eric Berg!
Yes all of the above!
What do we eat ? I wish we can get a list.
Real food. Food as close to the way that they appear in nature as possible.
Real, minimally processed food
Meat, eggs, low glycemic fruit and low oxalate veg.
Fasting.
Thank you Dr. Robert . It is such an eye opener for me.. and have Chaned what I eat and what I will give my children from now on.. only the good food:)
Imagine going to a dinner party and sitting between this pair 🤣
That is my dream dinner party!!!!
😂😂😂😅😅😅😅❤
