    Thats very cool Ben, the music is soo good with the intensity of that first flight. Congratulations on getting it to the UK. I see this video is from 13 years ago I would love to see what you are doing now!

    Doesn't need a gyro, the counter-rotation of the two blades keep it stable, the orginal Hiller Flying Platform (or the VZ-1 Pawnee) was tested to a height of 32 feet but was said to have had an operation ceiling of several hundred feet....on paper.

    Hillier suggested that they get at least 25% of their lift from the flared entry to the duct. There is a very small radius to you duct intake so perhaps you are missing out on a lot of the available lift.

    The funny thing is that it did work back then. The only reason they didn't go with it is the danger aspect of it. Think about it. One fan means low stability but high maneuverability, doesn't sound like a good mix.

    Actually if this is based on the Hiller flying platform the counter rotating props would give the gyro affect. Actually the one built and tested in 1955 was very stable and had a fairly good ability at higher altitudes. Its possible that the problem here is horsepower.

    I like the music, could you please tell me what it is ?

  • @Grommo
    @Grommo 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    yeah, 40% of the lift is from the large radius on the duct intake

    Our army looked into using this (back in the 60's?maybe date unknown) for snipers and recon, BUT the problem with there was no way to make it stop spinning when you let go of the controls to shoot and was too loud, you were spotted as soon as you popped over a hill or ridge. The idea was set aside and never looked at again (or was it).... No no it wasn't sorry.

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK that, if you have to put your feet anywhere NEAR the blades to get in then you're crazy.

    It's flying on ground effects , and it looks like the CG is too high with a standing pilot. I wonder how it likes water. I applaud the effort and ingenuity, but I can't think of anything I could do with it besides float around the lawn, if it mowed grass.......
