    @WladBlank No, it was surprisingly stable. At the most it would push it backwards a foot or two. The counter rotating props acted as a gyro. It was almost impossible to flip it over, even if you tried.

    It was consider for ther forest service to get into hard to search areas, search and rescue, monitoring, etc.

    That is what you heard ufo crash. This is ufo for military design hovercraft to stable hover so they can aim enemies well.

    @Nomoreidsleft There's a good reason many of the contracts for new transportation/aviation technology are from the military - faster tanks, more versatile aircraft, and more reliable equipment in general are often all that stands between you, a rock, and a hard place. I'm not usually one to defend the military, but I'm sick of seeing this weaksauce argument against militarization, when historically they're usually the only ones willing to give this sort of stuff the time of day.

    @ArtemisFour Yeah, but his design could never work in reality (to actually screw into the air). But he did have an interesting imagination.

    pilot should lay orone and e able to operate mini gun slave to pilots helmet two props with ducting could ensure safe landing after loss of one propeller in a cycle configuration 2 people plus equipment could carried basic carbon body work

    Wasn't that good for their use, noisy, made the pilot a good target and only had a 50 mile range If I remember correctly. However the forest service was interested for awhile, but they were not putting much money into that department back then.
