    I appreciate the info and update. Yes, with redundant fly-by-wire computer controls it would be doable. I stand corrected.

    I can't even begin to imagine how much power that thing needs to lift itself AND a human standing on top of it.

    Hi, all things are possible that we can dream up because we can only imagine what we have been exposed to . The rub comes when we must pay the price . Famous last words, "Watch This" , have been on the lips of many a fine showman.

    I want to know how loud these things really are. 30 years age we field tested similar machines, and they were noisier than the rest of the airfield put together. We said they were the perfect observation platform for a country where everyone is deaf.

    Saw on the web where this idea was to be scaled up to a larger machine that could carry "large sling loads".
    So the army could use "Goober Pyles" like me to move supplies from ship to shore, over swamps etc. with out having to be a trained chopper pilot.
    The cost savings just were not there.

    @ConnecticutSavvy In this case either not enough power or there is an insurance problem about experimental craft of this type. In 1955 you built for the Army not for private usage. I have noticed a lot of the hover tech craft either had a cable to make sure it didn't crash or low hover to make sure damage or injury was as low as possible. However this particular design which looks exactly like the Hiller which had a service ceiling of 35 to 40 feet.

    Have 2 parachutes .. one for you and one for your flying machine. Have a balloon take you to altitude .. release balloon and see how this behaves at altitude. Practice recovering from an inversion. Alternatively, have a cantilevered hook overhanging the Grand Canyon. Some such post-flight hook-up scenario. Save on a having to have to carry a big chute (added weight) for the machine. Don't forget yours tho!

    No, it's real video, no dirt being kicked up because the ground is clean. Look at the shadow, moving with the vehicle. It's real. No big flipping deal, but it's real.

  • @reticulan5

    Oh I should have mentioned if the pilot was underneath to have long stilt like legs with landing pads or feet.Which would hold the Platform when it lands. I was mainly refering to the low center of gravity problem of having a pilot standing on top.With a height of 6 feet and 200 pounds making it wobble.If you look at the twin ducted fans that engineers are working on now.The fans are at neck level with the pilot dangling.This is the plume idea.

  • @minetruly
    @minetruly 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    Look up "diy hovercraft" and you'll find that you can make a 1-inch-high hover with plywood and a leaf blower based on the same physics as this one. This is fully believable and actually quite unoriginal-- he basically has a nice, high-powered "fan" or other air-mover under there. The most challenging part would've been to balance it well enough to keep the whole thing from tipping over.

  • @reticulan5
    @reticulan5 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    This would be more stable if the pilot was underneath.Lower center of gravity etc.You could still have the pilot on top but you would need a larger diametre platform with co-axial blades spinning opposite directions.These go way back to the 50s.

    Interesting, will this possibly be offered to the public? Little really new about it though,it's just the Hiller flying platform from the mid 50's. The military has looked into many versions of these but from what I've seen and read, the limitations on them were too many in comparison to their capabilities.
    Still, to offer it to the public would be another thing.

    This is nothing but a copy of the Hiller Flying platform built back in the mid 50's, but not a very good copy. The orginal had a ceiling of 5,000 feet and was very stable with a flight range of 50 miles. The two counter rotation props at the bottom made it stable that it could not flip much like a gyoscope. The army gave it a thumbs down because of noise, but at one time the forest service considered it for search and rescue as well as fire service.

  • @DeanBradfordPresents
    @DeanBradfordPresents 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had invented a motor:the Dyna flux (Dynamic Fluxtuation)once started would not stop?until stopped,and with this motor ?it can generate 24 volts upwards towards 110 to 220 voltages ,via an inverter,it does not need fuel or Batteries,and it would be a perfect match ?for a Hiller type Flying plat form.and can stay up in the air limitless time.or unlimited time ,cuz it is self generating,through high powered Nyudimium-Magnets,in a disk configuration,it is under patent pending in the United States.The Hiller type of flying plat form is best suited for wild beast hunting,imagine floating above the hunted animals,with a high powered rifle.or sfetly floating above a group od Crocodiles,the best thing of my flying plat form is?it is silent,unlike the Hiller plat form ,that makes a lot of noise,cuz my flying plat form is powered by Electric -motors.one above and one below,for the rotating proppeler and the counter rotating proppeller underneath the said Flying plat form.animals or enemies of the military would be surprise if one of those machine pop up suddentlywith Gatling guns blazing away.it can be weathe -proof with a egg-shaped cupola above the pilots head,but it would not impede the movement of the Craft.

    @Oldbmwr100rs True, however the forest service was considering them back in the 60's and 70's. With a 50 mile range it was still reasonable for search and rescue. However the biggest problem the military had with them was, you couldhear them coming and they made wonderful targets LOL. But to tell the truth, I woudn't mind scareing the neighborhood kids with this, imagine threatening to land on that dog that uses your yard for a bathroom.

    And that guy in the background could well have seen about 15 minutes worth of them futzing around with this thing before shooting this bit of video. You can tell from the design and performance that this is probably a very problematic and ungainly machine, and required a lot of setup and bad runs. Maybe they've been practicing in this lot for weeks-- just your common DIY hovercraft enthusiast you see on the way to work every morning.
