It's kinda crazy how in the tiny amount of time spent with Armored core i have (like a month before 6 came out) versus my near decade with souls games i almost immediately decided that AC was the fromsoft series i like the most
This just makes me wanna play the old gen again, it's been a fun journey and watching you go through almost the same things and feelings has been really enjoyable. Unfortunately I didn't catch the beginning of your journey but I remember watching your stream replays from AC2 onwards until i was able to actually join your streams
Reverse bunny-hopping around the exterior of the arena while 9-Ball Seraph chases is the only way I’ve ever found to consistently keep it in lock during that fight. It’s just too fast otherwise.
For anyone in need for controls that work: AC1-AC3 you can rebind the controls. 1. make the face directions the forward/back/strafe left/right 2. the face buttons look up, down, left, right 3. shoot R1, blade R2 4. Boost L1 and finally change weapon L2. Easy.
I played Master of Arena at a sleepover at a friend’s house for the first time, I was about 9 or so, hated the controls, then remapped them based on what I thought would make sense. After fiddling with the shoulder button placements for a couple of arena bouts, I settled on basically exactly what you said. It felt so much better. After my friend tried it he looked at me like I was a fucking wizard! And I’ve heard from other people that did the same over the years, specifically approximating the twin stick control style. Kinda funny that even back in the day, a bunch of kids, independently, figured out what would feel the most natural while the devs shipped it with the popular and ubiquitous tank controls. I guess they thought familiarity would trump ease-of-use, I mean they had to have tested a TON of different control methods
Next time you go back to the original go to the shop before doing any mission, sell the radar and rifle buy the cheap machine gun sell generator buy upgraded generator. Start eleminate strikers mission. It may be squaters, the one w/ the bridge. Jump backwards over the apcs behind you to find the large rocket launcher. It will be your big stick early on. Pro tip: the shoulder that you put the rockets launcher on, is the side of the targeting reticle "line ends" is where the rockets will go.
Awesome vid I enjoyed it a lot. Imagine if Nineball Seraph's moonlight energy wave could also it tanks an tetrapods and not go over their heads. How many tries would have it been to defeat him?
The controls aren't that bad, but I started playing these games when I was towards the end of primary school so I guess I had a childs brain being more receptive. But to me, they make perfect sense given the tools available at the time (pre analog stick controllers) Personally, I think you should view the controls as making more sense for piloting a machine. "But it feels awful!!" I hear cried from other people, well... do you expect to naturally just be good at piloting a high performance machine? I like the analog stick controls too, it just makes AC feel less of a mech sim and more of an arcade game.
Well now that ac6 is out you could finish all of them right especially cause as ac ff player I found it to be the most unique among the 3rd gen ac games
honestly i might jump into gen 1. only armored core games that i have not yet played and with the dual analogstick mod the controls might not even be that bad.
Most veterans just change the controlls tbh (and im speaking of my own past with my friend) there are some madlads who really play with the normal controlls and I would bet there not that many anymore who play with these normal controlls I played the game in my childhood with basic controlls and it was ehm quite a challange yeah im one of these madlads btw but if u played these great games since u where a child and kingsfield too it becomes a natural habit

Playing through Project Phantasma. So far it's been a blast, I swapped out my AC, Skyline Delta for a new one, Five-Ball.

This video has convinced me to try out all the 3rd gen game, based on how polished the gameplay was. Looking forward to your opinion on 4th gen!

I still playing w/ the default controls. Infact i still played w/ the d-pad even after analog controls were added

I'm of the opinion that the default controls aren't nearly as bad as people make them out to be. It's NOT that hard to get to grips with them, really.
