Watching the process would make for an interesting series of videos.
*Tyler should do a co-branded episode with _This Old Tony_. He's a machinist into motorcycle racing and he could machine you those 12 suspension pucks in six hours. He' probably machine a single rod to the right diameter then cut it into the right lengths. The bumpers would take him an extra day.*
I wouldn’t even consider buying a Baja Porsche 911 unless it could tow 10,000 pounds across five states without stopping. Otherwise it’s useless because everyone knows we all have to tow 10,000 pounds across five states without stopping at least once a week.
As an off-road enthusiast, I'd love to see the Dakar conversion of this 911! I think it would be great content and seeing such a unique build would be awesome.
Reminder: Established Titles is a confirmed scam run by a company out of Hong Kong. The same company runs Deal Dash and Kamikoto knives. All are heavily advertised through TH-cam sponsorships and all are extremely shady. I hope Hoovie thinks twice about who he accepts ad money from from now on.
This is a great project, Tyler! I definitely think you should go ahead with the rally conversion. You could also deal with the paint job issue by covering it in rally livery and stickers! Maybe even get a little sponsorship by putting other TH-camrs' stickers on there?
Yeah, I guess if you want destroy the wheel bearings, axles and tires. Turn it into a useless Baja Bug clone from the 60's complete with outrageous positive camber at both ends. Should be hilarious to drive before it tips over.
Yeah. Make is real for us what it's like to do a Dakar cheap. More interesting than just buying costly parts. I figure you can get 1.5in lift on most cars with spacers, low risk, but you'll have to adjust alignment and I think the rear suspension on a 911 is a little unique...
Hoovie, that puppy is the perfect car to safari/rally-macate! It's just beat-up enough to not feel bad about having some fun with it. I foresee an episode featuring dirt and/or mud coming up...✌️❤️🙂🇨🇦
I agree with this off-road build. I miss the old days of when you modified your vehicles (Apollo 911, the Lexus Landcruiser, the Nitro Fast and Furious Prius and I think Porche Cayenne to name a few). The unboxings were fun and you have good taste in mods. It was always fun to see what you would bolt on next.
I say go for the Safari build. However, if you do, don't cheap out. Going off road will put much more stress on other components, so you should plan to replace those up-front. It's going to cost much more than just the suspension and tires!
You can actually buy kits to convert 911s for about $15K. It's a lot more common outside of North America and Europe to see an old 911 that's been converted in some manner for the local roads and conditions.
Love the channel Hoovie! Just a heads up, your sponsor, ESTABLISHED TITLES is a scam, you do not actually end up owning a piece of land. It’s really just a novelty certificate. Do your due diligence before promoting or buying from them. Cheers!

Think of all those harsh winter days when you could use a capable AWD in the snow, and you could be zipping around in style, with heated seats (once they are sorted), without having to resort to some sort of drug ridden Stellantis SUV (although I like that one too). Dakar conversion would be the coolest Porshe ever, especially with a hooptie rally paint job. You already need sway arm links and CV axles anyway.
I think it needs to be as tall as Matt's old one but 12/10 would love to see a safari porsche and it would be great for those Kansas winters. I'm excited thinking about it driving through the deep snow without issue
I'm so excited for this build! With the paint being so worn the possibilities are endless. I know what I would do with it but curious to see which direction you would go with it. I fell in love with Ed's Orange Off road Cayenne he had for Car Trek. So I think this could be an epic response to that! I can't wait to see what you do with it. A safari build with like a simple wrap on it (personally I think that a sand colour would look quite nice) with the retro safari lettering along the bottom of the door would look nice.

Great idea Hoovie. The 996 turbo is a less than wonderful car and yes I did have one, with at 540 HP engine, which made it plain scary. Converting it to a Safari is a wonderful way to kill it off more rapidly and have fun in the process.
I would LOVE to see you turn this into a budget 911 Dakar! I saw the video commercial for the new Dakar trim before the price and I got my hopes up it wouldn’t be outrageously priced lol
Also you could leave it stock height with some cheap metal skid plates and just do the vinyl wrap/ basket / tires to see how close to capable you can make a 90% off 911 to the new Dakar.
From the moment you unveiled this car and exposed it's condition I thought this would be a perfect candidate for a Baja tribute Porsche but I didn't think you had this kind of full custom build in you for this channel. Glad I was wrong!
Huuh, "Lord Hoovie." That was hysterical. I almost shot my drink out of my nose! There's no doubt why Hoovie's Garage is my favorite TH-cam channel. The sense of humor portrayed on Tyler's channel, with comic relief support from "The Car Wizard," is absolutely priceless! i say go for it! I would love to see the build and result. love your channel and its nice to see you put a positive spin on things that would make most grown men cry like a baby.
I think this would be very unique and fun project. Not to mention the fun you'll have when it's actually completed. We'd all love to see this conversion!
From one Hoovy to another Hoovie...I approve to build it up to a safari spec. It would be even more awesome to see you participate in an off-road event with it!
I'd just have a 911 Turbo beater project. I don't mind those transmissions at all for GT style trips or traffic. Well I would have bought something cheaper to build as a beater but I'm not Hoovie. Putting that much into a conversion for this car seems like it's just burning the money. I like the idea a lot, I built an AWD rally car using a super beetle shell over a custom chassis for the 1.8T quattro power train with front engine and rear rads/cooling. About as close as I would get to something like this Porsche.
Sounds like a great idea and that's the perfect donor platform to do it on. You could even save some bucks and instead of painting, do a wrap with different colors to emulate a sponsored off road runner. Go for it.
That rear spoiler could be as simple as a dusty micro switch. The switch is on the right hand (US passenger)side under the spoiler lid, had a black cover. Pop the cover off, contact clean abs see what happens.
I'd go for it. The Turbo is such an underrated car and would be a cool to see converted to a Dakar spec. You've done the paint and engine on a 996. Why not do up the suspension? Take it on an adventure to show its capability to top it off.
I’m a hard core manual guy but for off road slow speed stuff *when you’ve got no low range* it seems to me that a slush box is a great compromise. I’ve never done true off roading or crawling though! I’d love to see this experiment
I had a manual one.....and as much as it never made me fall in love with it.....one thing i could never say was it was lacking in low range.....these things will chew up a 305 pilot sport with any hint of angle like nothing else from any RPM on the dryest stickiest tarmac you put in front of it.
There is a reason why the homologation special Montero came with an automatic.... Or why rock crawlers are automatic, and why Bajas are auto...... Manual is super challenging in any form of off-road motorsport..... The quattro S1 was the first dual clutch.
Rattling noise is from the roof in the back. Liner is moving when it is rattling. You can see it in the part when you are talking about it. Look at 6:27
Definetly do it, and you need to add a martini livery wrap to it. Surely if you sort the mechanicals, add the kit, and get it wrapped it'll be worth more than the sum of its parts! You'd be maybe $60k in but surely with the rarety and the recent porsche announcement you'd be inline for some profit.
Yeah definitely do the safari, I mean you could just make it a good car and manual swap or whatever but then it’s yet another good car in the collection of good cars, safari swap is fun and unique and adds something cool to your collection so go for it!
Sounds like a cool build, you should definitely take some time to take it off road if you decide to go through with it :) would definitely recommend fixing the oil leaks if you are going to spend so much money anyway
I think you need to make the conversion, I have been to Elephant Racing many times. They are always working on such cool projects, like EV conversions, and suspension upgrades and upgrades to cooling lines and so much more. Chuck has done a fantastic job building up that shop for Porsche performance parts..
Porsche did a lifted 996 turbo and it was driven across the Australian outback in 2000. They installed 200mm thick ally spacers between the body and the subframes. It was very cool. Do it! Safari/Dakar would be awesome!
Definitely Want to see something new from you like this offer Porsche build I also think it would be interesting if you get creative with it and do something more than just a stock build what can you actually take this thing to movie let’s go let’s have something interesting.
Do it Hoovie!!! We love watching you vigorously attempt to financially ruin yourself whilst somehow doing better and better!! 😂😂😂 My honest opinion is do it if you want to though. I would love to watch the build and you play with it but you have so many cars right now I think you need to do whatever you think is best. Thanks for everything you do and show us ❤
Yes on the conversion. I'll bet your detailer can spiff up the strip-joint paint cheaper than a wrap. If the off-road Porsche look becomes a thing you might even make some $$ on it.
Hey I’d say go for it on the Safari build! With Porsche releasing the Dakar 911, the timing is perfect; you could ride the wave! You have what appears a solid foundation to start from, and with I bet if you do it right, you’d likely only loose $10-20 Grand!
Hey! I really love these 911 turbo's. I live in a very rural area in northwestern Ontario, Canada (only a few hours away from Winnipeg) with TONS of long gravel forestry roads that actually make for awesome driving with plenty of corners and hills with beautiful forest scenery. These roads are however usually pretty rough... It would be FANTASTIC to see a powerful high end car such as this porsche with a 3 inch off road lift/suspension package. We have mostly pickup trucks and the odd suv/jeeps around here. I drive an older F150 5.4 3v (had to say it for the wizard) that I have locked and tuned the variable valve timing system so it doesnt work, along with some other engine mods this has bullet proofed the engine. With my 3 inch lift and 35" tires these graveI roads are pretty fun. My point is however that where i live no one even owns a porsche! I want to see this 911 turbo ripping on some gravel backroads! It would be so much fun to have that type of car turned into a sort of high end rally speed machine! It would destroy a subaru WRX. Please go ahead with the mods! UUUUGH im excited like a little kid thinking of the high power short wheel base absolute ripper that car could be! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!
It wouldn’t look bad with the lift and the nose lights/bar shown in the picture at the end. No roof top rack. I think it would need a wrap to make it look inspired. Would be nice to see the final result on a Car Trek episode when you either have to off-road it in either dirt or snow.
YES on the LIFT & Safari Conversion!!! Wizard can make & install some 2" lift pucks for a couple grand$$$!!! You are already IN BUSINESS!!! Face It! You are never really going to Safari that thing anyway. Looks are EVERYTHING!!!
I think it would look awesome to build the safari 911! I have always loved those types of builds and this one has a lot of potential. Plus once it's done it could probably be sold for a profit
I’m assuming you didn’t research “established titles” before you did the sponsorship deal. They are a scam company and the land titles are souvenir titles and you cannot get a lord or Lady title from them. Additionally they don’t plant any trees the claim to donate to 1 tree planted but you actually will not own any land
Holy shit please do this. The Dakar is very cool, but this with some classic rally lights and a big fixed wing or however you want it to look done by that guy would be awesome. Love the porsche stuff you do
Matt Farrah might be one to talk to on this, idk who did his rally conversion on his safari 911 but it’s way more rad than I ever thought it would have turned out as. I’m sure he still has it. I remember he had the interior trimmed with public bus seating fabric but it looked really cool. Edit nvm ofc you saw it already hahaha sorry Hoovie I should have known better

⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️⬆️
That's a great idea!! Have it compete!!
Go for it.
God, I hate wrapped cars with a vengeance. Just spend the damn money and paint it.
That rear spoiler could be as simple as a dusty micro switch.
The switch is on the right hand (US passenger)side under the spoiler lid, had a black cover. Pop the cover off, contact clean abs see what happens.
Oh yes! We'd love to see you make your car into a Dakar version of itself!
The Porche 996 has been one of my favorites. I think it would be cool to do the Safari conversion but that is a hefty chunk to spend.
That is the best idea you had in a long time, can’t wait to see it come together
I LOVE this idea! Goes back to my love of the old Tamiya 959 Dakar RC car.
Absolutely do it! Those era 911’s are a dime a dozen. A Dakar version would be truly rare.
Yes yes and more yes!!! Can’t wait to see the final product of the off-road 911
Porsche did a lifted 996 turbo and it was driven across the Australian outback in 2000. They installed 200mm thick ally spacers between the body and the subframes. It was very cool. Do it! Safari/Dakar would be awesome!
Can't wait to see it lifted and looking all rally style.
Can’t go wrong with another 911 build. Those are some of the best videos.
Thanks for everything you do and show us ❤
Counterpoitn: Gemballa yellow 997 Chinese body kit for the Turbo. Including the wing. Then get a Cayenne Turbo for the overlander stuff.
Sounds like Tyler wants to be prepared if Ed and Freddie are thinking about doing another offroad Car Trek adventure :)
Do the safari conversion and wrap it in a truly wild color, can't wait to see it rolling around the city.
Think Austin Powers......
Yes mate, absolutely do it! We would love to see that build. Huge content for you for sure
Go for it. Will be so cool to watch the build and see the final product. Would be curios to see how much value you can add to it.
DEFINITELY! And don't forget the off road safari racing full body wrap! Make it a SEMA build. Also... do the electric wing upgrade.
This is an amazing idea and you won't be affraid to take it offroad because of the "questionnable" paintjob 😆
Always a good day when hoovie uploads
Your a trend setter Hoovie, you have to do this ! ❤️
Owner of the Plum Crazy 911 here. That is not ruined for sure, it's awesome and everyone who sees it loves it.
Would be a really cool idea, I’ve never seen a safari 996 before and this is the perfect one to do it with
I find it hilarious when Wizard's scanning the internet for expensive luxury goods just as Hoovie is about to pay the huge bill !!
Yes, make it an off roader than do another SUV/off road Car Trek and bring this thing to the battle ground.
Definitely do the safari conversion. I'd love to see the transformation and maybe some off road adventures.
Love safari builds but would prefer to see a budget build than a high end kit
i suggested tyler contact Matt.........
www.youtube.com/@SuperfastMatt
Big this, maybe not cheapo but at least reasonably prices
agreed
maco paint job
and flip it for profit at auction?
absolutely - do a neglected, high mileage Porsche Turbo "budget", into an off-road look. then; drive it up & down neighborhood streets & dump it asap.
Do it Hoovie! I'm definitely interested in watching the full build!
You won a prize Telegram me ☝️☝️
To claim your prize 🎁🎁 thanks for watching.......
A Rally/Dakar conversion would be really cool!
Yesssss make it a super powered sand buggy or something. Maybe not a full safari build but like those old VW dune buggies but with WAY more power.
I didn't know I wanted Hoovie to build a Safari 996, but here I am.
Love the Dakar idea Hoovie! Go for it!
I love the Dakar Idea, would love to see how it would be done.
Definitely would be cool to see it but I think it would look even better with a rally wrap
The show must go on! Do the build :)
Go for it Hoovie! It will be awesome!!!!
RAISE THAT BABY UP!!!! I think it would look cool. Good luck on the project.
Edit nvm ofc you saw it already hahaha sorry Hoovie I should have known better
wait he sold the safari?
Did either of y’all watch the video. He answered both 😂
@@connorpage5883 you didn’t read my comment either lol, I hadn’t hit the end of the video before I typed it out. Hence the edit.
@@Jushwa yes I know he said that but did he really sell the Safari? like are we sure as I havent seen any videos say I got rid of the safari anywhere
like Why?
@@kavinskysmith4094 I never said he sold the safari? Where did you get that from? lol I just was responding to Conor. In my original comment I said “I’m sure he still has it… “ maybe you misread ?
IT would be a lot of fun to drive. Go for it Tyler. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Love it when the Wizard breaks out the pen light.
Go for it Hoovie! That thing will be a blast with a Safari package!
