Hoovies Garage Sometimes it’s alright to do this. You’re going to save a lot of people the time and money by not going there in the end. It’s a small sacrifice to not go to a party you’re invited to by the same people you see these points of concern with.
I have been told from the time I started looking at cars I know I had my first at 12 but obviously not on the road and I was working on it, my family told me if i need work done when I go to put they car on the road ask around and find a highly recommended local Guy, you may need a specialist but your local Guy will know one if you need it. Most things I will try to do but I know I have a limit.
I really like when bigger TH-camrs are giving honest information. Hoovie could have been paid to say that dealer was amazing. But since hoovie is an honest man and won’t lie to his viewers he did the right thing. Wish more people did this........
From what he said in his video, every man and his dog are complaining about them. If he was to say they gave good service, everyone would know it was BS. It would hurt his own reputation.
A good and honest mechanic is worth his weight in gold. Every car guy should take the time to develop a solid relationship with one. And they're out there! Typically not found in a dealership though.
Tyler have you and the wiz are ever thought of putting together a “car wizard” network? So people like me that don’t have one can find one where I live? / Or is there a forum or blogs out there?
Couldn't agree more. And i have one! Works on one car at a time, on his front drive, and what he doesn't know about cars, isn't worth knowing, my very own Scotty Kilmer. A really nice guy who never charges me anywhere near enough money for his time and i always, every time pay him over the top.
@chris younts A smart person learns from their failures, a wise person learns from the failures of others. This period of Tyler's life seems to be going just fine. Perhaps he's learned from previous experiences.
My trusted mechanic is now 50 miles away from where I live, it's worth the fuel (and having to take the bus home etc) to know that I'm being treated fairly and treated right, though.
I don’t trust dealer repairs anymore. Took my work van to a Chevy dealer once to get some stuff done. After I drove out of the service parking lot the van wouldn’t shift into 3rd gear. Turned around (drove like 500 feet), went into the office and they told me I have to schedule an appointment and pay $150 up front JUST for diagnostics. Long story short went to private mechanic apparently they disconnected a transmission sensor and acted like they didn’t know anything.
I have a 06 Chevy equinox just to change one spark plug and a water pump it was like two weeks I was like fuck that a priviate mechanic got it done in a day I for hella less
The dealer lowballed the estimate to get hoovie to agree to the repair, then they would add the other repairs while in the shop and push the job to 10grand or more!
@@thecrow7 Me as well... a couple of times. The problem was that i live in a small country with only one Porsche dealer, and i didn't know any people in the know.. A bit of a tip to anyone buying a used Porsche. Get yourself in a "local" Porsche club or group, get to know people that drive them, and they'll point you to a good mechanic. Never go to the dealer out of warranty. Actually Benz service was my best experience at a dealer ever. Who would have thought...
@@janezpungartnik3149 the Audi/Porsche dealer that I go to for various things is actually really good. prefer it to any of the independent shops I've gone to. the guy I deal with has the same year Audi S4 as me, and is very reasonable. They got me extended warranty for something I didn't have all the requirements for, and have even given me discounts on labor. So there are some good ones, but it's definitely not common.
THIS is a sub-par car dealership, and today I’m going to take you on a tour of all its quirks and features, then get blacklisted from it, and give it a Hoov score
lol, these so called "mega" dealer families are all over. In my area, if I want to buy from a stealership that isn't in the same family of ownership, I have to travel nearly 4 hours. The same family owns every single dealership in a 350 mile range. Basically an entire state's dealerships are owned by a single family. There is no negotiating, no price competition.
well, we know he got lucky at least once, he has a new baby to prove it! lol But he also got lucky with his aston, weezard gave him a thumbs up on that.
@@Psych0technic bro he works on exotics. His prices are why hes stolen so many customers from the stealership. Hes cheaper than them and still provides the same service to their nice cars. Just so you know this is one dealer, and not all of them are like that. the dealer I go to I will stay with until I switch brands or there is a legitimate issue with service like what happened to Hoovie
BMW of Manhattan did the exact same thing to me when I initially got my V12 760li and took it in for their analysis - their estimate of repairs was $12,400! Local shop fixed everything for a couple grand.
If the car isnt brand spanking new with 1,000 miles on it then it’ll be cheaper at your local shop 10 times out of time. Buick dealership quoted me 9 grand to source and swap the engine for my 1990 reatta (i paid 2900 for my car mind you) , took it to the local shop and paid 2 and a half for a brand new (30,000 miles but pretty much) l67 with the supercharger added and put that in. Dealerships are a joke

Also consider replacing the infamous IMS (intermediate shaft) bearing if this has not been done. M96 motors are prone to this bearing failing. This car is high mileage, so this should be done if it hasn't been already. Use compressed air to blow out the radiators. If you are going to track the car, consider a deep sump or Accusump to protect the motor. Also, if you are a serious track guy, consider a Motorsports AOS (air-oil separator). I personally use Castrol 5W-40 Edge in my street Porsches with very good luck. Stay away from that "other" oil if possible. Then go have fun and tear it up!

Most of us know the game... A regular Joe walks into a Service Dealer and wants an inspection on an older "new purchase". They see that you never been to their dealership and they want to make a lifelong customer. They give you a "Good Report" and you gladly agree to get your car up-to-date according to dealer specs. They clean it and hand you a PAID invoice with the Luxury dealerships Logo on it.You take your car home and you start noticing the same sounds, creeks etc.You take it back and they tell you that so and so needs to be replaced. You ask them why they didn't catch it the first time and they just give you that sad look .They will help you out on the price because you already spend thousands and they also give you a very nice rental car. They start fixing it again and thats when you get a call that they found a critical issue that must be addressed urgently. They can't help you on the price because the parts are OEM and there is no wiggle room here. You don't mine too much because you will get to keep their expensive rental for "free" for awhile and the dealership, out of the goodness of their heart, will help out with the labor since the car is already on the rack. You take the car home and notice other things, noises etc. This is the game ladies and gents. They play it every single day.
That's the way I saw it from the start. They saw Hoovie as a golden chicken about to bring them many golden eggs and they didn't want to scare him away.
He makes more if we watch a single long video than multiple small ones though. Most youtubers dont have an audience who would watch one this long though.
A good mechanic/technician are getting harder to find. The Wizard seems to be very knowledgeable and very affordable compared to dealership prices. He's also thorough and honest. You better keep him around and slip him a decent Christmas bonus!
My old man used to say, "when you find a good mechanic, you find a good friend" , fortunately I have found my good friend. And it looks like you have found it too..
they probably undercut the inspection to get you in the door then once they started working on it they would drop the bomb and say now it needs all this stuff fixed
Surely grounds for a lawsuit? That's deception. They'd be liable for you buying a lemon. The whole point of getting a pre-purchase inspection to avoid buying a lemon. What a joke.
Props to standing up and keeping your dignity Hoovie! Sounds like this group either won't be in business much longer or will get gobbled up by Penske or AutoNation.
I saw that scam coming as soon as Hoovie mentioned it. The dealership just want you to take the car and wash their hands of any responsibility. As soon as you take the car, it’s your problem.
Msd42276 Decoop my dad took his 911 turbo at the local Porsche dealer. They did an awesome job. He never saw a single engine light or anything after that. He abused tf outta that car for 2 years and nothing. I had to take my Toyota Sienna for service more than that thing😂
The problem with Porsche dealer is, that Porsche demands highly skilled mechanics and the dealer are also in a training program, but afterwards the higly skilled mechanics hire elsewere for a better paid job. As Porsche dealer in the US i would charge the mechanics for the traing with a fee and with each year in work they could reduce the trainig bill by 20%. If they leave after the trainig for a other company who would beneift from the trainig, the remaining bill is due. - Like a sports club with top player...
When I was a insurance adjuster, I found most dealer service centers didnt want to even bother with vehicles unless it was warranty repair. That's probably why you got the dealer inspection shaft. Totaling your vehicle becomes paramount to make you go away.
Anyone still wanna complain that the Wizard is overcharging? :D Judging from the look of the place, these guys must be an authorized dealership, right? I wonder what Porsche or Porsche USA would have to say about their work philosophy. Not even being able or willing to hand a customer a professional, typo-free estimate with all sums done should be reason enough for the company to bring out their version of a dunce cap and to force these guys to get their act together.
The Porsche dealer should have been smart enough to roll out the royal red carpet for Hoovie, especially because he is of course a TH-camr. Now, because they did a shitty job, they only created a shitload of bad advertising for themselves. Shame on them.....
Yeah, the same is true of our local BMW dealer: unprofessional, not able to give a decent estimate, acting superior to the customer. Never again. Always use an independent mechanic!
@@jeffzekas Yes. You don't get the service you pay for, you get the mechanic you pay for. The Porsche dealership may charge $190/hr, but they are paying their mechanic $25.
Dude, just drop the top and enjoy your ride as is. A convertible on a great day is a joy ride no matter what the car. The Wizard is on top of his game. This guy is a gem!
The reason I became a tech myself was partly because I found most techs were useless. The old saying `if you want something done right, do it yourself` rings true in so many situations.
MeesterDash First off...good for you! I tend to fall into that category of fix it yourself, too. Having grown up around car dealerships, and Porsche dealerships in particular, I am well familiar with the issues you and Hoovie describe. It was a big part of the reason why my Dad stopped being a Porsche mechanic in the 70s. So this problem is not new. Second, to give a bit of deference to the mechanics themselves, I think the problem is the dealership pricing scheme for repairs. The flat rate system screws the mechanic who can't let the vehicle go back to the customer with a problem not truly fixed, so he ends up giving away time for free on more complicated jobs. Meanwhile the dealership forces him to grossly overcharge for more routine work. On the whole I think dealerships and the new car dealership system is a dinosaur that will soon be extinct.

Michael Ruiz I would never categorize it as the “best”. But I’m subscribed to like 10-15 automotive channels, look at all the videos on first come/first serve basis, and Hoovie is the only one I watch immediately, jumping ahead of the queue... It really sucks for someone who is basing their purchase on a ppi. I paid for a ppi for my 996 and it also had very little "wrong" but after getting it realized It needed front suspension and a few other things that were never told to me. Good episode!
I was a high end dealer tech and left to start my own place. Digitial inspections with video, exceptional customer service, only the highest skilled techs who get paid salary, not flat rate, etc. etc. etc. car dealerships are only going to be for warranty in the near future. They dug themself a huge hole they can not get out of.
The inspection with video is pretty cool. My dad recently had his cx-5 brought in for its free second oil change(10k miles) since he bought it new and after it was done they sent him a video message of them checking the brake pads clearance and even how many 32nds of an inch were left on each of the tires. Its dealers like that who are good solid dealers, its the shitty dealers to stay away from.

It's the PPI that is the scary part. I'm with you on not taking it to the stealership but heck I need a PPI to get me in the ballpark something I can gauge off of.. and dealers in my opinion don't want their own product IF it's not a new model

Thanks for the great, educational video. I have noticed the same things with the local Porsche dealer. Those parts are quite often ”rare” and not in the warehouse right now and naturally have to be ordered outboard. Which was expensive. The situation suddenly changed when another company started offering Porsche parts and maintenance.
While I was growing up in northern Oklahoma back in the '70-'89' time frame...the whole family would rather go to Wichita then OKC...so much has changed...lol Great job on a nice Porsche. For anyone reading this (yes...that means you too): I hope you have a great day & be safe.
I've been in the industry for a decade and I can confidently say there are still far too many dealers like this. Thank you for putting this one on blast for this inexcusable mentality.
I've never expected different from any dealership. Top dollar for top level incompetence. I'm not a professional mechanic, but a professional musician and trusting a big dealership is like thinking you're going to go into a Guitar Center and buy something that's not broken. Just the way it is. Always a smaller, more financially sound, competent, knowledgeable and CARING solution out there than the big jerk offs. Thankful I have some great indy's around me, but shops that don't know what OEM stands for, or how to do a google search and read a forum have happily got me into what diy's I can handle. I'm very grateful for that, otherwise may not have grown the balls to do it. Indeed, they failed but Hoovie you WON!!
When I see Hoovie takes stuff to the Wizard, I notice when the prices are being laid out he usually either takes breath of relief or looks like he’s gonna pass out. But every now and again in the when the Wizard gives a price, I’ll see this little ting of(either anger or frustration) in his expression. This video he had that expression through the whole thing. Just completely annoyed and frustrated with what’s happening. It’s weird when you see someone who is usually so reserved and nice get upset. Speaks volumes to this dealership.
My dad, and one of his Mechanics that work for him call dealerships..." Stealerships" for a reason. Wizard will find loads more wrong than the dealer!!
Wow! Your dad and one his Mechanics are geniuses...no one, in the history of automobiles, has EVER thought to call them "stealerships." That's just so original, I can't get over the fact I've only heard it about 10,000 times (or more) previously.
@Drakilicious his Jr mechanic said it we all like the phrase so it kind of stuck, but yes if he didn't coin it would be fun to know who said it first :)
I had a PPI done at a Porsche dealership here in Germany a few years ago. I think the hourly rate was actually cheaper, but still very much on the high end. I am in no way a mechanic so I wanted to have a professional take a look at it. Also the asking price was quite an incestment for me, so I asked to go in the garage to have a look mysself. I knew I would not spot anything that wasn't glaringly obvious, but I also knew I would be angry at myself if I spent that much money and there was something obvious I could have seen. When I came in, the mechanic was just about to lower the car from the stand again as he was just finished. I told him I would like to have a look myself, we went from front to back, he said something like the suspension parts look good and I just took his word for it, other then rattling at some things and probably look stupid I would not have known what to do anyway. He said the car was basicly fine for its age. When we came to the back I noticed quite a bit of oil on one side of the engine. I asked "Where is the oil coming from?" to which he replied "What oil?" One side of the exhaust system was comletely covered in it, I thought the guy was joking. He was not, "Oh I missed that"... I mean finding out where it was actually coming from was probably more work than I paid for, but not noticing it at all, the guy did not even look. There were some other small issues with the car, but mostly I did not trust the dealerships oppinion after that so I did not buy the car. Yes, I wanted to buy a used car from a private guy, and just went to the dealership for an inspection. Since I did not live there it was also clear I would not have any future work done there. But paying over 100€ for about 1 hour work that should not matter, for that price do a good job or do not offer the service in the first place.
Honestly, just finding a decent shop is tough. I wish there were more Wizards out there. Heck, even if he charged more, I'd just be happy knowing that my vehicle was being treated with respect and care, be it a Bently or Buick.
I have had good experience with my local BMW dealership. The inspections are very thorough and the estimates are always precise but at the end of the day you are paying a lot for the nice waiting room and the espresso machine. I am amazed that a Porsche dealership does not have the same kind of service analysis and cost/parts breakdown that seems standard with BMW. Because my BMW is old and not worth so much, I have switched to the independent mechanic who does my Corvette. His shop is old and grungy and there is no courtesy shuttle but I take public transit there and back and my bills for the work done are now about half of what they would be from the dealer, primarily due to the much lower hourly rate. Support your local Car Wizard!
People should know he’s been playing a great character for years. I don’t think he’s fake but sometimes playing up to the camera is what gets you infamy. Look at Cleetus McFarland as an example.
Pretending to see yourself as a bit dumb is actually the best way to get arrogant people off guard and being likeable for most. By always trying to toot your own horn you are not giving a good image of yourself, and if you feel like you need to do it it's because what you are advocating about yourself is really not obvious... and maybe who you aspire to be instead of who you are. Tyler is definitely a very smart and likeable guy.
You are the most forgiving individual person, I will not say to a fault, because we need more of people like you in the world! So you don't need to apologize for your supposed rant! Just thought I had to share that! If I had the money and the confidence I would love to do what your doing!!
It’s sad that I live in NC, and know exactly what dealer you’re talking about. I have my own story about that place, but will refrain from sharing so I don’t get angry all over again.
I had good experiences with Foreign Cars Italia in Greensboro (I don’t know if it is still called that, it’s the Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati, Aston Martin dealership on I-40). I live in NW NC now, in the mountains.
I've been driving Porsches for 40 years! I learned early to do my own work. For the big stuff, I found a private Porsche mechanic . Saved TONS of money! And had a great friendship!!
Agreed. I worked at a dealership like this so I've seen this kind of job from the inside. The pressure to turn out jobs in a day means you don't have the slack time to take a technician off other work you ARE getting paid to fix to just diagnose a list for a guy who is going to drive away to his normal garage, give them the diagnostic sheet from us and say "here's what's wrong, fix it for me". That said, Tyler paid for diagnostic, and the technician report should have reflected the time spent on the car. Yes the profit per work hour is terrible, and I understand it'll drag the sold hours for the day down, but when it's someone this well known you would have thought they'd cover thier backs a bit better, despite knowing it's going to hurt thier day/week figures.
If you don’t want to do the inspection and the inspection doesn’t pay: don’t do it. Say no to the customer. Say it’s too busy. By doing a half ass job you’re helping no one.
I used to work for a small used car dealership. When someone really liked a car but was on the fence about its condition, I'd always recommend they get a mechanic's shop they trusted to perform a Buyer's Inspection. It's no different than hiring a Home Inspector to help you identify issues before buying a house. You hire them to find the problems on your behalf.
If they deliberately gave bad service to the guy that has possibly the most influence among their customers and potential customers... then they are IDIOTS.
Thank you for going back to your roots. Here lately my favorite TH-cam channels have moved from stuff I can relate to (buying and fixing junk) to bragging (look at my latest super car.) I stopped watching a few because I hated that part of a Birthday party when the bratty kids unwrapped their really cool toys, then let you look and not touch. Keep up the good work and check the seatbelt for that light, the little part you plug the belt. The short stubby one on the side where the French fries go. $100 fix, get a used one on Ebay.
Years ago a professional service manager taught me how to price a service inspection. 1 Decide how much the customer can afford and is likely to pay for the repairs. That's how much the bill will be. 2 Make sure to include all of the gravy jobs into the estimate first. 3 Include the most critical repairs so that the car can get out of your garage under it's own power when you're done. 4 Do the things your customer asks for, or as much as possible within his budget. Serve coffee while he waits. 5 Do the work and get paid before the customer leaves with the car. 6 Wait for him to come back with the rest of the car's problems and rinse and repeat. Important footnote 1: If the car has a killer defect, that's way above what your customer can afford... ignore it as long as possible. Get as much work done before you tell the customer his car is scrap metal. Important footnote 2: All of the parts on a used car are worn and can be replaced... Broken or worn out is a matter of degree depending on what the customer can afford. Sorry Hoovie, you obviously looked like a $6500.00 to $7000.00 customer. If you want a bigger estimate bring a newer car or dress up for your scalping... I mean estimate. As a former car dealer, I'm surprised you don't know these rules...
acwijj yeah pretty much. I’ve worked for two different dealerships in the last 4 years and there are a lot of dealerships that operate with integrity, but even still the key objective of any dealership is to make money. So one way or another, the vast majority will always overcharge or recommend unnecessary services where they can get away with it. I wouldn’t even call it super sleazy in most cases, it’s just business.
My best advise is to always say "show me" I'm a pretty good mechanic having worked on my cars and friends cars for over 45 years, but my health prevents me from doing some of the hard jobs now... so when i get an estimate... I just say "show me" If the shop can't or won't show me what's broke, I go elsewhere. If you aren't a mechanic look up the job on TH-cam, see how the issue is properly diagnosed and repaired then compare the information you gained to what the shop told you.
Guess IL fix my motorcycle myself. Handlebar n break cables. . Perhaps just buy another carburetor instead of trying to clean it. But would not be adjusted I guess. .. Having a cheap motorcycle with not all that much wrong but still not worth the price to get it fixed sucks. When a buddy with knowledge I don't want to annoy helped removing the front... To reseal the fork. It seemed simple enough. Still not easy but simple in a way. And aaaah fuck. That's due too cause the bearing of the thing ain't good and it's not dangerous that way but just. Sucks.
Yeah my experience with independent specialists is great. Even if their hourly wage is higher I feel like it's almost always worth it because they can diagnose and work on the car so much faster. I've had stuff the dealer couldn't figure out in hours take a specialist 5 minutes to diagnose.
I've worked at dealerships and its definitely all about time time time . It's not so much the techs fault as we wouldn't work on cars if we didnt enjoy it but it's more the way the pay structure is setup.
YES, I enjoy both of them immensely, though Harry does provide more commentary about the driving. It's really interesting, the two of 'em for different reasons.
Bond and Beyond it makes sense when you think back to each others’ backgrounds...Hoovie worked in an auto dealership and has a bone to pick with crappy ones that don’t at least TRY to look like they’re doing their job re: service. Harry was an automotive journalist for a high-end publication (evo) and knows the marketing and drive-testing world inside and out; ergo the differences in styles (I figured you probably knew all that but put it in for those that might not know). Ahh, the Walser Auto Group. You had warned me about them in an email when I expressed interest in a BMW 340i they had for $8k more than what I could get in Georgia. They wouldn't budge a dollar on price even after pointing several comparable ads, just in a different color. Negotiations failed. I'm betting they had to send it to auction for a bigger loss than a sale to me.

I went there to buy my daughter an IS250. After the test drive the salesman mentioned no haggle pricing. I told him I would buy the car, with cash, for one dollar less than what they were asking. He snidely told me he wouldn't take a penny less than asking. I walked out and will never go back.
A note for the Wizard: When giving quotes on maintenance to Hoovie, you should quote at your standard rates and note that Hoovie gets a break. Don't have to reveal that break, but would be more apples to apples. Also, any new business that has found you from this channel or your own won't think that Hoovie rate is your standard. Hoovie, I understand why you get a different rate and that is just good business, so not making a big deal over it, just a suggestion to keep comparison "real" for the average Joe. I'm sure that the Car Wizard kills their rates with his normal rates too! Great video, and I hope you and your family are well.
My dealer is awesome so I can't complain. Do I let them over sell me on things here and there, yes. It has paid me back 5x in warranty work instead of the usual Cant't Replicate. A little goodwill goes a long way.
@@hackonefouryou You have that right. Sadly a lot of people treat them poorly. I have always treated them with respect and kindness and had all my service done there. After your last one, I was really looking forward to this article. Here in the UK I have owned Porsche cars (Boxster 2001-03 & 997 2003-16) which have always been main dealer (OPC) services. The amount of "Other items that need addressing sir" that an OPC find when taking it for a scheduled service is truly amazing. As an ex OPC mechanic says on the 911 UK Forum, the OPC will seek to ensure work is done on the basis the car needs to be in "showroom" or "Approved Used Porsche" condition when really the work is not essential & a "defect" is not detrimental to ownership/driving of the car.
I have the exact same car, only a coupe. Have not waded through all the comments but ... first thing you do is drop the oil pan, check oil level and condition ... all this done in contemplation of the condition of the IMS bearing and RMS. Cheers.
No, I go to the Dealership for recalls. That way if it fucks up (like in the case of my newly replaced Takata Airbags), I can SUE THE SHIT OUT OF THE STEALERSHIP & HONDA! If I had the work done somewhere else, (most likely) I wouldn't have a leg to stand on legally. Those airbags have reportedly been exploding & sending pieces of shrapnel into the vehicle occupants when they go off. I don't trust the new ones any more than I do the ones they are replacing just due to the widespread failures. Other examples are the unintended acceleration in Toyota Camrys, & "failure to go into park" with Jeep Cherokees. It's not that I don't trust the competence of local shops, but when it comes to safety issues. These Corporations will look for ANY WAY to get out of a Litigious Situation. Don't give them that opportunity.

Well if making dumb decisions gets you a house like that. By all means sign me up
Hoovies Garage Sometimes it’s alright to do this.
He's probably pissed they didn't comp the PPI for the exposure he was going to give them. Some companies just don't get it.

They can be found in dealerships, too! The problem is usually how many other channels are involved.
Yep I need one
Couldn't agree more. And i have one! Works on one car at a time, on his front drive, and what he doesn't know about cars, isn't worth knowing, my very own Scotty Kilmer. A really nice guy who never charges me anywhere near enough money for his time and i always, every time pay him over the top.

There is so much value in finding a mechanic you trust, that can talk to you about the issues.
My trusted mechanic is now 50 miles away from where I live, it's worth the fuel (and having to take the bus home etc) to know that I'm being treated fairly and treated right, though.
Exactly. I have a great mechanic and I completely trust him and he has yet to disappoint me. He lives about 2 miles from my house so...
It is for sure. And now four years later we are friends with my mechanic.
FixDriveRideFly . 100% this....
It really is like finding a good therapist who you feel really comfortable with.
I have a 06 Chevy equinox just to change one spark plug and a water pump it was like two weeks I was like fuck that a priviate mechanic got it done in a day I for hella less
normal dealer behhavior
The dealer lowballed the estimate to get hoovie to agree to the repair, then they would add the other repairs while in the shop and push the job to 10grand or more!
yup had that done to me :(
@@thecrow7 Me as well... a couple of times.
I'm really surprised this was not mentioned in the video. It should be very obvious to both Hoovie and Dave
@@janezpungartnik3149 the Audi/Porsche dealer that I go to for various things is actually really good. prefer it to any of the independent shops I've gone to. the guy I deal with has the same year Audi S4 as me, and is very reasonable. Exactly what they did. Get it in for 6K estimate, get it torn down then take you to the cleaners.

SouthBeach Bulliez dawg chill, you’re giving away my secrets. I gotta pay the bills

Judging from the look of the place, these guys must be an authorized dealership, right? I wonder what Porsche or Porsche USA would have to say about their work philosophy. Not even being able or willing to hand a customer a professional, typo-free estimate with all sums done should be reason enough for the company to bring out their version of a dunce cap and to force these guys to get their act together.
The Porsche dealer should have been smart enough to roll out the royal red carpet for Hoovie, especially because he is of course a TH-camr. Now, because they did a shitty job, they only created a shitload of bad advertising for themselves. Shame on them.....

This is the angriest I've ever seen Hoovie
Wasn't he angrier when his ML55 got stolen?
When I see Hoovie takes stuff to the Wizard, I notice when the prices are being laid out he usually either takes breath of relief or looks like he’s gonna pass out. But every now and again in the when the Wizard gives a price, I’ll see this little ting of(either anger or frustration) in his expression.
This video he had that expression through the whole thing. Just completely annoyed and frustrated with what’s happening. It’s weird when you see someone who is usually so reserved and nice get upset. Speaks volumes to this dealership.
Stealerships have a "reputation" to protect after all.
Love the rant. Love the Wizard. Now bring it to your Porsche-collector friends' mechanic for his Post Purchase Inspection!
This is a really great advertisement for going to a great local trusted mechanic over the dealer :)
Honestly, just finding a decent shop is tough. I wish there were more Wizards out there. Heck, even if he charged more, I'd just be happy knowing that my vehicle was being treated with respect and care, be it a Bently or Buick.
I would even pay the same that this "exclusive" dealer is asking for, if i knew he was doing a good job.
Totally digging the 80's private investigator/detective soundtrack during the driving scenes.
This brings back the joy I felt when you used to have the Apollo 911
My deepest condolences to you Tyler
I hope you an your family will get through this
When the smartest guy in the room pretends to be dumb because he's playing a character.
?
Whistlin' Diesel is the dumbest automotive channel on TH-cam. This one doesn't come close.
I thought he was playing Mario Kart
"WALSER!" There, I said it. Thanks, Tyler, for another honest, no punches pulled review! Stay safe and keep 'em coming!
Craig W. Scribner I bought a VW from Walser in MN and the sales guy took money off. He was then fired.
You are the most forgiving individual person, I will not say to a fault, because we need more of people like you in the world! So you don't need to apologize for your supposed rant! Just thought I had to share that! If I had the money and the confidence I would love to do what your doing!!
Good independent mechanic's are hard to find anymore.
I’m from High Point NC and there’s another place off I-40 called carr industry’s if you have a bmw, Mercedes, or Porsche that’s the place too go!
They didn’t get that fancy ‘campus’ (ya you mean a big lot) doing 20 yr old 911 inspections haha
I've been driving Porsches for 40 years! I learned early to do my own work. For the big stuff, I found a private Porsche mechanic . Saved TONS of money! And had a great friendship!!
Service Manager: “that’s that Hoovie guy, he ain’t gonna fix anything so glance at the car and kick it out of the door!”
That's exactly what happened. They know he had no intention of using them. Not defending their laziness though.
Good video! As a tech in the industry, I like to hear the truth about some service shops, good or bad. Keep it up!
Sorry for your loss Hoovie, you seem like a genuinely good guy and the product of a good family. May your lovely grandmother rest in peace buddy
@@ConsoleCombat pretty much
acwijj yeah pretty much.
Sucks.
Standard market targeting for dealerships like these: people who unknowingly pay their ridiculous prices for vehicles.
My post purchase repair bill was $5k on my 996, but included clutch and IMS. Used a local independent porsche specialist.
local independent specialist are the best
A lot of the stuff on this car is potential DIY. Front suspension, brakes, motor mounts. Maybe even the steering rack.
@@GarthGoldberg Have you seen Hoovie work on a car? Baa ha ha ha...
@@Mellowbiker Does he even own any tools?
Yeah my experience with independent specialists is great. Even if their hourly wage is higher I feel like it's almost always worth it because they can diagnose and work on the car so much faster. I've had stuff the dealer couldn't figure out in hours take a specialist 5 minutes to diagnose.
A mechanic at a dealer rushing and not doing a complete job? Who could imagine
I've worked at dealerships and its definitely all about time time time . It's not so much the techs fault as we wouldn't work on cars if we didnt enjoy it but it's more the way the pay structure is setup.
I've realized Tyler is becoming a bizzaro world version of Harry's Garage
Cheers!
Brian Neu that’s the same experience I had with them
I tried ordering a new Mercedes AMG G63 and they said, there’s a waiting list sir. And I said waiting list mean like before the car arrives. No sir before we send in your order so it can be build it will take about 2 years since the list has 10 people on it. “Call the Mercedes Benz dealer in Las Vegas and there no such thing as a line in order to buy a car. Like idk what’s with walser lot.
Nerf their reviews and ratings on Google
I went there to buy my daughter an IS250. After the test drive the salesman mentioned no haggle pricing. I told him I would buy the car, with cash, for one dollar less than what they were asking. He snidely told me he wouldn't take a penny less than asking. I walked out and will never go back.
@@Koru-Health You lost a buy for one dollar. They lost a sale for one dollar. Doesn't that make both of you the same?
Support small businesses, Hoovie bring it to wizard!
Wow, $193 for a bad inspection. The dealership should watch this video.
google reviews will destroy them
Hoovie has just a few viewers. They will ALL know. Boy will they know.
No PORSCHE should watch this video then maybe revoke the dealerships affiliation with them.
Walser. Not Minnesota’s finest contribution to automotive scene
Erik G huge facts
Nor in Wichita. Where they believe you should feel privileged to use such a prestigious dealership 🙄 Severely lacking in Customer service.
Plus we've got Morrie's too.Two giant and shitty conglomerates.
ya I like here in the Twin Cities and they suck
I love how chill the wizard is
Now, during the crisis it’s the time when such dealerships and services should bankrupt.
It’s healthy for all of us.
that's why some people argued that the airlines shouldn't have received a bailout.
They'll just charge more to make up for losses
My dealer is awesome so I can't complain. Do I let them over sell me on things here and there, yes. It has paid me back 5x in warranty work instead of the usual Cant't Replicate. A little goodwill goes a long way.
@@hackonefouryou You have that right. Sadly a lot of people treat them poorly. I have always treated them with respect and kindness and had all my service done there. When my transmission went a thousand miles past warranty the service manager called Germany and convinced them to cover it. Saved me $19k. Great people. Recommend them to anyone in the market for a Porsche.
Makla commie
The dealership knows they are clowned on and despised, they don’t care lol.
Didn’t do what was contracted or reasonable, = “REFUND”
Good luck pursuing that sir..
Tyler Hoover recieves 7 grand repair bill.
HOW DARE YOU!!! UNDERCHARGE ME
I have the exact same car, only a coupe. Have not waded through all the comments but ... first thing you do is drop the oil pan, check oil level and condition ... all this done in contemplation of the condition of the IMS bearing and RMS. Cheers.
I only ever go to the dealership for recalls
Michael Surfer - even for recalls it is questionable.
