You should really pony up for the belly pan at $2500 you've got the fuel tank exposed and if something bounces up off the road and punctures it you're now paying $13,750 for an engine out.

Rear tray is a must. Even at factory ride height, it's still a very low car, and there's many sensitives parts that could easily be damaged and worth way over the price of that tray. But even with the cost of this part, you made the deal of the century ! It makes no sense to me not to replace it. Also, full annual service. Again, you made the deal of the century, treat it well, and you will enjoy it for years.

Congrats man! I would definitely spend the money on the belly pan. It makes the car much more stable, channels the air to the rear splitter, allows the car to not be a parachute in the back. Not to mention it definitely makes it more sellable later. With all the money saved already and its benefits its worth it and you can actually put it on yourself man! I wouldnt wanna hit something and it come up in the engine bay either such as an animal, something from another car or just a stick etc.

C'mon Hoovie, do the full service and the tray, - at least the tray. All it's gonna take is one big stone flicking up into the flywheel to grenade your engine. You really gonna save $2500 now only to spend the $15,000+ for an engine out and a flywheel replacement, as well as whatever other damage it's caused? You've already got a huge dent in the fuel tank from not having the tray on. You really wanna chance it again? Maybe the fuel tank won't be so lucky next time.
The service is also gonna be important since you don't know the history of the car. As reliable as the 458 is, it's reliable *for a Ferrari*. It's not reliable enough to be cheaping on the services. It's still a Ferrari, not a Hilux.
You haggled the original owner down $20,000 what he was asking for. You can afford to spend an extra $3000 to make sure the car's going to be good for years to come.

This way rocks and dirt would not go in and damage the transmission ..... personally I think you should do the full service since the repair bill was so low... the fuel tank replacement was definitely not necessary though.
As for the moaning Diablo.... could it do something with back pressure in the exhaust somewhere..... as you said it gets louder the more you press the accelerator.... or it could just be an exterior weather stripping seal somewhere... those are my two best guesses...

For the Diablo, might be a longshot but the drone could be from a bad exhaust hanger, or damper. My Lexus had the same thing where it would whine on the highway (it did it always, but just more obvious when cruising at 65). I ended up adding some additional clamps and dampers on them and attached to my exhaust. I did 2 of them and it cleared the problem right up, I couldn't believe it.
Not sure if this would help you, but I hope you see this and hopefully it can help.

I gotta say, I’d sure go ahead and do the annual service. I know I’ve heard of weird stuff specifically with the brake system if it’s not serviced. Especially since it had different brakes then stock I’d personally like the peace of mind that the fluid was inspected. And don’t forget there is a TSB on the 458 brake system that has no repair yet on the 458. It’s something to do with the Bosch components. I think I’d also do the under tray, though I think given this cars pedigree I’d try to source a used piece not new. And finally I think I’d repair the tub, specifically because that crack can and likely will get worse.
I think I’d pass on the fuel tank issue unless it becomes a problem and while the diffuser is kinda important there’s no guarantee it won’t break again especially in Kansas and some of the roads here. I again might find a used one later if I broke the existing one more or worse.
At the end of the day it’s a high mileage, salvage title Ferrari, with interesting modifications and ugly repairs on the front welded areas. It’s never going to be worth what a clean title car is worth. BUT it also is a running and driving 458 Spider that has minimal issues (except those noted) that you got for less then 100k. After these few repairs and the interior leather repairs and maybe a switch for the glove box your into this car for about half a non molested one. That’s a good purchase in my book. Likely anything that pops up would do so on any 458 and not attributed to the accident at this point so gold star for Tyler.

The original owner probably didn't want anything to do with it after the crash so it went to auction and was bought by someone who really wanted a 458 but could never afford one in working condition. The new owner then did almost all of the repairs himself in his garage and since he had no money left after buying the car, he cut corners wherever possible just to get it working. That's the most likely story that comes to mind.
