True... 3d printing has resurrected my passion for RT era. I used to buy alot off ebay but the prices got crazy - I have a lot of 3/4 or 1/2 models so being able to print replacement parts is awesome
This was fantastic Ed and thanks for the mention. I’m really happy the banner video helped you mate and your appraisal makes me want to make more. Let’s catch up for an interview on the podcast soon. Cheers
Yeah that was awesome Josh! Really helpful. I think the best part was your emphasis on patience and just chipping away at it. I think that is an aspect of mini painting that isn't talked about enough. Let's catch up on discord soon 🙂
Those new contrast paints where probably the best thing GW has made. They’re not as transparent as the old ones, and their vibrant colors are so amazing! Not to mention the fact that Baal Red is slightly orange, really makes it a beautiful “Blood Angels Orange” change.
I think you need to give yourself real kudos for the paintjobs - never have I seen models that have given me a better nostalgia burst than these 😀😀😀😊😊😊
Priming metal minis is always a favourite part of dealing with metal minis, theres something really amazing being able to see all the nice details primed, since its a bit hard to see when its not primed.
I enjoyed the video and I subscribed! I was into warhammer for a few years in the mid 90s, I have a space wolves army in a box somewhere at my parents house that I now feel a sudden urge to take the 5 hour trip to retrive and start restoring, thanks!
First video I've seen from you. Found it while looking for more inspiration for my own blood angels. Fantastic video! I love the retro scheme. I tried something similar out myself and it's such a fun way to paint.
I think this could be my favourite video of yours so far. Such a slick video. Excellent photography and narration. Very tight script. No time wasting. And a top conversion and paint job. The model is gorgeous. Well done sir 👏 👍 🙌
Hi, I'm new to w40k. I've just began reading the Eisenhorn series they have just used a speeder in the story so I just searched that and this video popped up. Cool video! It looks really cool:)
The Land Speeder looks so good! I think the extra engines work so well, make it look fantastic. The banner is outstanding too! Bring on next weeks vid!
Great job. I got one of these from a haul of bits someone's parents gave away, 2mm of enamel paint on it. Stripped it and repainted now it's the best boy of my HH Iron Warriors army
That's so cool! I imagine the iron warriors would use it as a scout/spotter for their artillery or as a punishment detail vehicle. Would like to see this!
Great video! As an aside, the carpet/box cutter you used at the start of the video, is exactly what I used to cut my 2nd edition starter set out of the sprue 😂
Amazing, a blast from the past. I faced this Landspeeder in Space Wolf form many times against my best friend who joined the hobby with me in the 90s. My Eldar and his Space Wolve had massive battles often.
Great restoration! You could always take a cotton but or some cotton wool, soak it in some iso alcohol, and rub the primer off the stand. Just an idea 👍
Cheers Aglumm! Yeah the banner is the best bit - although I'm still content with the outcome. Contrast paints ain't for for vehicles, even smaller ones 😊
Another pleasant video. The beginning of unboxing that retro goodness was exciting and wholesome at the same time. I felt an overload of nostalgia despite the fact that I know 40k since 7th/8th edition but I just love the 90s vibe. Looking forward to seeing all those boxes covered in your videos of consistantly improving quality each upload. You will most definitely get somewhere with this channel and I wholehearthadly root for you. Good luck!
Cheers Rudolf! That's extremely kind of you. I'll keep producing videos and will strive to apply what I learn from the experience of each one I film. Awesome to have positive people like you urging me on! 👍🐈
That's a nice conversion! It brings back memories of what we used to do back in the 90's, personalising and converting our vehicles was a lot of fun. The banner came out really nice too!
You can rub the spray paint off the flight stand easily enough, just dab a little plastic glue (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) on it to soften the acrylic and wipe with a paper towel. A touch easier than just scraping with a knife. Also Silly Putty can work great as a masking agent .
Great tip Benjamin! Good to know for the future if I slip up again. Putty is awesome - I've used it when spraying camouflage on guard tanks in the past.
That's really cool! I would love to see one of those painted up. Glad you liked it - a simple but effective conversion - the thing just needed some more chonky horsepower!
You might be able to strip the paint off the flying stand with a drop of isopropyl alcohol, the back of a hobby knife, and a little bit of care. Any scratches in the stand can be gently filed smooth and varnished to hide the texture.
Good shout! Maybe one day I'll have a crack at this. As it is, it doesn't bother me too much, but I did feel like a right Muppet for priming the model without considering the flightstand!
I mean if you wanted an idea for a patreon goal you could have a supports vote for what mini people might want to see a video on, maybe not now but maybe in the future. I dont know ive never been good at figuring out patreon goals XD Enjoyable to see this even though it was a model an edition before i first became aware of 40k. The extra engines def helped the profile of it and gave it more oomf
ayo this is a sick kitbash, love the bulky engines on it. Ever consider getting the Proteus version ? Seems rather similar to the classic but updated scaling.
I feel like I missed the joke at around 02:20 "hmm, looks like this was sculpted in '96" when it says 94. Am I dumb? :D Lovely work, btw. That army looks beautiful.
Like how you bulked out the original what parts were used and where? I sort of know both kits but your use of both together? What gets glued to whst would be nice to know as it does look great as a super big air support.
Hey Zargon! So in the end it was only the 1994 Land Speeder Engine block pinned to the back of the model. Nothing else was altered at all. I played with using the newer crew, but they were far too big! Glad you like it - it looks quite imposing - fitting for as I believe it is regarded as one of the best units in the SM list - provided it doesn't get whacked out of the sky in turn one!
So basically, you kitbashed a Rogue Trader-era land speeder with a second-edition speeder... Besides the sacrilege committed here, the result looks really interesting.
It's weird. I started 40k in 9th edition (warhammer in general aos 2nd edition). I have no interest in trying the old editions like 2nd since they just seem too complicated for me but for some reason I just love watching vids about it. It's like a very specific history thing.
Just had it on a longplay vid on from TH-cam for a bit of background interest. Never actually played it though i think my Amiga 1200 back in the day probably could have handled it. Looks like an amazing game.
I remember that old Land Speeder model from the 1990's it was a major pain to put together unless you did a lot of pinning. it is one of the only miniatures that I had from back then that I did end up getting rid of it just not to standard and the newer model was better.
It's an absolute unit of a model and made me appreciate how user friendly the later metal kits were (like the dreadnought and newer speeder) in comparison. Thanks for the comment and for watching! 🙂
Kind of you! Yes, looking at it in the cold light of day I'm not as annoyed at myself as I was earlier. Still, I won't be using it for anything 'big' again.
@@edpaintsminis definitely agree with you in regards to using it on larger vehicles. One piece of advice I give myself in painting though is after I'm done painting is to put it away and look at it a day or two later I find that it helps because you don't see the flaws as big as a problem as you did when you're in painting mode.
Hoping this channel really explodes, top quality Oldhammer content. The balm my soul needs
Awww thanks Rickstar! I'm really excited with the reception so far and can't wait to show you more stuff!
@@edpaintsminis I see ya playing the original Dune game on the monitor as you're scrubbing! Good on ya!
1) Mate your production value is really good! You're going to go super far if you keep this up.
2) Your cat is goddamn gorgeous
SANDMAN! Cheers buddy. And yes, she is the most wonderful puss.
Great job love the character of the old GW sculpts 👏👏👏

the surface finish of those old models really brings tears to your eyes. They POUNDED those moulds back then
Wow... your painting does great justice for the sculpt. The craft and crew come to life.
Those new contrast paints where probably the best thing GW has made.
They’re not as transparent as the old ones, and their vibrant colors are so amazing!
Not to mention the fact that Baal Red is slightly orange, really makes it a beautiful “Blood Angels Orange” change.
Yeah its a quality paint right there. I'm going to see how I get on with it on my scouts.
@@edpaintsminis heck yeah!
Just remember that it is a contrast paint, and will be transparent as heck.

Great job on the banner!
You're right that the Crown of Command video is an excellent tutorial.

Love the oldhammer videos mate. I’d love to see more of your retro orks in the future!
Thanks Sep! You certainly shall!
Great work ed! The blood angels are looking awesome 👏
Thanks Jonny!
Was rewatching this while eating breakfast and just noticed. At 1:50, were you playing the 1992 DOS Dune game while stripping paint? :D
Guilty as charged.
Great video!! maybe some warhammer fantasy content in the future? i love those dwarfs
Priming metal minis is always a favourite part of dealing with metal minis, theres something really amazing being able to see all the nice details primed, since its a bit hard to see when its not primed.
Yes! I was going to say something to this effect in the video but couldn't articulate it like you just have. 🙂
That looks great. Excellent idea on the Baal red! 🍻
The extra engine block really adds alot to this mini 🔥🔥

I love the old style paint jobs, this to me is the 40k I fell in love with. This today while visually stunning, it’s just seems unreal.

the other speeder was def a ravenwing one, ive built two recently! great video!
Ah hah! Yes I think the bareheaded crewman is the giveaway. Shame I don't have the rest of it, but it worked out well for the Speeder!
Channeling your inner Judge Dredd before opening the box? Seriously though, the landspeeder looks fantastic!
Hahaha! Yeah, rewatched Dredd a few weeks back and it has definitely had an impact on the whole block - err - household.
The Baal red with highlights looks good on camera.
